You HAVE to stop there at least once. You will definitely fall in love with that bakery. Service is A+++. They wake up early and bake everything the day of. Small tip, you have to go there in the morning, because everything leaves really fast, it's popular. The bakery is in a older house, country looking. Once you step inside, it feels like if you were at home.

Amazing local bakery in the east end of Ottawa. It's often busy here, especially on weekends. Staff seem really happy to serve you. Everything is made fresh, and all the baked goods are delicious. Seating is very limited here, so this is a perfect local "grab and go" cafe.

Still my absolute favorite, as much as I love other places, like Red Door Provisions, Art-Is-In, Quitter's Coffee, Bread By Us, Cafe Nero, and more. Definitely get there early to get the best selection. On a holiday be prepared to wait in line. In addition to reasonably priced breads and pastries, they have a cute little cafe-eating area and serve hot and iced coffee and tea beverages. They feature local artworks on their walls and locally-produced products like honey, preserves, soaps and woodworks and more. In warmer months live music is at times featured.

I along with some of my co-workers from the Red Apron in Ottawa along with some of our customers went on a bus trip. We stopped at the Black Walnut bakery for some treats! I had a brownie along with a coffee! Then I bought a homemade strawberry rhubarb pie! The pie was absolutely phenomenally delicious! The small country store atmosphere was so nice! I highly recommend a visit as you'll not be disappointed! It's well worth the trip, even if it's out of uour way! ☉ On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it 10 stars!????

We recently moved to the area and drive by this place a lot. It is an adorable building which made us want to have a look. We have seen very long lines and were curious. So today was the day and we were not disappointed. We got a cherry berry pie which was a little lobsided but who cares when it is that good. Plus we got apple danishes. Sounds kind of like something basic but the flavour was just so darn good. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with perfectly cooked apples. I almost cried. Lol. We will be going back for sure.

I love this bakery but saturday sept 20 i drove almost an hour drive to get there best buttertarts but when we sat down to enjoy them we notice they didnt seem to be as good ..the dough was much thinner and much less filling ..usually one would be filling but my husband and i had to eat 1 and 1/2 because they were much smaller size .it was not worth driving an hour for them ...at all Very disapointed ...

Pastries and bread have been consistent in quality and freshness ( made the morning of) . Courteous service at any time of the day. A must spot to stop along the way. 2019 EDIT added a nice picture to boot. Consistently happy to eat and meet the staff here. Oh, and you can get bilingual service too. 2020 EDIT - the new coffee that they use for the espresso is completely mind blowing. I wanted to love this bakery, but didn’t. The location is really quaint and the bakery is cozy. My main issue is that I found the service to be unfriendly and borderline rude. I was very surprised at the service because I had assumed it would be better since it is owner operated. In addition, I had a toddler with me and had assumed there would be a highchair for her to sit in while we enjoyed our food, but there wasn’t a highchair in sight. It really isn’t child friendly since the tables are close together and most patrons have hot coffee/tea. I did enjoy my tea and croissant - nothing bad to say about the food. Given the location and quaintness I may try again and hope for a more pleasant experience.

A friend and I came by this morning for a mid-morning breakfast. This was my second visit to the Black Walnut. The staff were friendly and the service was excellent. More notably, the coffee and ham & cheese croissants were outstanding. We finished off with apple turnovers, which I will gladly order next time I visit. My next visit will be sooner than later.

Wonderful little bakery right off the 17. Limited parking for the amount of business they always seem to have. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I have had the Cottage White and Multigrain bread so far and they are both delicious! All their breads are vegan-friendly except for the Egg Bread. Only 1 vegan dessert so far (their melt-in-your-mouth Power Bar) but I'm hopeful new options will be added as they grow. A nice arrangement of local goods can also be found here, from honey to ketchup to coffee beans to soap. Worth a stop in if you're passing by, but be warned: if you want some fresh-baked goods, go earlier in the day, because once they're out, they're out.

Today has marked the first day of a new tradition for us, as our experience at the Black Walnut Bakery absolutely blew us away. The food was phenomenal, the cafe service was delightful and the staff were friendly and happy to be there. If you haven't yet treated yourself to this beautiful, local bakery then do yourself a favour and make the time.

Visited the bakery for the first time last week and WOW! Everything was excellent. In addition to several pastries (which were excellent warmed up even two days later!), we also picked up a few balls of sourdough pizza dough to freeze for later. We finally thawed and baked the pizza on Sunday and they were beyond delicious!!! The thawing/baking process also couldn't have been easier, no need to rise, etc - just pull out and bring to room temp approx one hour before baking. It made the most delicious, thin crust style pizza that you would find in any high end pizza restaurant. Highly recommend this bakery! We can't wait to go back.

Great selection of viennoiseries, pastries and breads. I had a pain au chocolate and a blueberry lavender scone. Both AMAZING! Bought the white sourdough and it was fresh from the oven, still warm to the touch. Well worth the drive from Ottawa, but really not that far anyway.

Love The Black Walnut Bakery. We've been fans since the days when they showcased their wares at the Cumberland Farmers Market. Recent additions to the menu include real homemade ice cream in a variety of yummy flavours like bumbleberry or honey lavender. Flavours change on a frequent basis. Enjoy a savoury croissant or Eggs Benny and a coffee (Poppa Bean locally roasted), while sitting under the canopy tent across the street in a parkland setting. Maybe grab fresh glorious pies or cookies, and the bread to take home. Can't miss at BWB!

Little Gem in Cumberland! Nice, quaint location with really delicious sweets and sandwiches. I don't believe they restock a lot through the day, so if you want something in particular, you have to go early. Almond croissants are to die for! But anything you choose is delicious. My mom and I came here for a beautiful little lunch and sat out front in the Adirondack chairs, definitely a hidden gem worth the small trek from Orleans! Would definitely recommend!

Delicious bakery with a large variety of items. Weekly preorder is fantastic and the takeout window is just as great when you need a little treat or coffee on the go.
