This Bakery is included in the category of Donut shop.
I had a tasty vegan Oreo donut ($3) that tasted delicious and felt surprisingly light compared to places lime Timmies or Krispy Kreme. And their $1 coffee that came with the donut was quite good itself. I believe it's also from a small roaster but the name escapes me at the moment. Only complaint may be that they are on the smaller size compared to a place like SuzyQ.
I wanted it to be better. I LOVE cake doughnuts. These weren't crispy on the outside, they were soft. Similar to grocery store for the original glazed. Lemon ricotta was decent. Special Key Lime and Coconut also decent. Didn't love them but they were OK.
If you are craving donuts, you should really this place. They're fresh and yummy and I like the fact that they're not very big.
Fresh real donuts!!! The minis are amazing...
Some of the best donuts in Ottawa
I've been at this location about half a dozen times and with the exception of opening week, all my visits have always been disappointing. There is very limited flavours of donuts. Their frozen donuts are of abysmal quality as they are freezer burnt and stale after sitting in their freezer for weeks. They run out of multiple flavours and sometimes their ENTIRE stock by noon and sometimes earlier. They should be delivering more products from their main store if this is the case. I have gone there many times to find that their entire stock was sold out and it was only 11:30am. A new delivery was supposedly on it's way. For a busy shop in the market they should know that their clients would be happier if they actually had donuts in stock. It is impossible to see their available flavours online, forcing you to come in the store just to be turned away or try and call the store with only one person working at most times. After all this, they still have the tip option on their debit machine. Who in their right mind would tip someone for putting one (1) donut in a bag. Maverick's should pay their employees better if tips are necessary. Tim Horton's doesn't even take tips and they always have product to sell. I hope they improve!
Pretty donuts but not amazing. They were a little dry and kind of overpriced but they’re cute looking.
They might not have all the kinds but they have both vegan and regular donuts! Amazing donuts and great polite staff :)
Loved all the donuts I got. Cinnamon swirl, blueberry crumble, peanut butter, classic cinnamon & sugar, and salted caramel coconut (which is vegan). I don’t think I can pick a favourite because I enjoyed them all.
Chocolate peanut butter donut are really good but a bit pricey.
Super nice staff in this quaint little shop and the donuts are fantastic. Definitely worth a try.
The donuts were ok, it was quite dense more like a cake rather than a light fluffy pastry
Are looking for the perfect donut? Come to Maverick's. Unbelievably fresh, delicious and innovative. They even have vegan ones. I have been to Portland (famous for its donuts). I am tempted to say Maverick's are as good or better. Enjoy :)
I had a chocolate donut with mint chocolate on top was best donut I ever ate awesome little donut shop!!!
Wonderful little shop in the byward, great service
The donuts were good... I like how they are gourmet style. I felt like the actual donut (not the toppings) were too alike. I was expecting a bit more variety in how they were made. For it treat, it's a good place to go.
Delicious donuts with nest flavors, but fairly expensive. About $28 for a dozen.
Love the flavours and the fact that some flavours are vegan. I grabbed a box for a vegan friend and she was impressed. I tried the coconut and my sweet tooth was pleasantly satisfied for months to come. The dough is very filling (like a moist cake?) and the icing was decadent and sweet. Service was also quick and friendly, love the ease of ordering and paying for my order.
Good but not fresh
Awesome staff. I came in when they were giving out samples of their donut holes :) each piece is huge and surprisingly filling lol I ordered six donuts. All were amazing! My favourite is the lemon ricotta $2 for regular donuts, $3.50 for special ones @nomsoftoronto
I never went hear, but I hear it was really good but I never found it must if walk by
Great selection of flavours. Such a convenient location at the Byward Market. The only thing is it’s a very small store front, literally just the doughnut display case so it’s definitely more of a grab and go kind of situation. The service was great and I like the unique flavours. My favourite is the lemon ricotta. The lemon flavour is so refreshing and it’s not too tart.
Donuts are good, young lady nice. Don’t want to be pressured into giving tip after paying $3.67 for 1 donut
Fantastic donuts with creative flavours! A little pricier than Suzy Q's but more than worth the difference! Have yet to find a better donut; you'll have a hard time beating their amazing lemon ricotta flavour
I had their vegan donut of the moment and after leaving the store had to turn around and go right back for another. Wayyyy too good! Keep up the great work!
Selldone
Cream whipped, cream topped, cream filled.
I popped in on a whim while walking through the market and, let me tell you, not disappointed at all! It is a small little shop but their air conditioning game is on point. Hot day outside? You’re not melting inside. The selection was still robust even though I went in at the end of the day. I’ll admit to panic ordering a couple of minis (service was so quick that I got to the line far quicker than I expected) but they were tasty. Honey-dipped all the way! Cheers for quick but really friendly service. I’ll definitely be back for more!
Super disappointed in the quality of these donuts. For all of the hype and advertising going around, I was super excited and truly thought they may be incredible but was highly disappointed when I tried one. I had the chocolate peanut butter donut and it mainly just tasted like another store bought donut. The dough itself was quite dry, the icing was pretty mediocre, and the peanut butter whip barely tasted like peanut butter.
Tried this place through Uber eats for my first experience and it definitely won’t be the last. I tried the lemon ricotta and cinnamon swirl! Both were amazing but that lemon ricotta definitely has my heart! They even gave me an extra donut for free (not sure if it was by mistake or because they were closing soon) but either way was so kind and definitely made my night and first experience even better. Donuts really can make your day ????????
Don’t really like the location because of the fish smell. I really like the mini donuts but the regular ones are fried instead of baked (personal preference) and they taste ok...
I love the hot baker who works overnights!
I was expecting a lot more choice We had half a dozen Hopefully next time we will have more choice
Great location right in the byward market- lots of foot traffic. They don’t have as many flavours as the bank location but they have their best sellers/most common one. I’m not vegan by any means but I do prefer the vegan donuts because they are not dry like the non-vegans ones. They are more expensive though ... it’s a bit. pricey for what you’re getting. The donuts are fairly smaller. Smaller than Suzy Q ones for sure. If you do get a chance, I do recommend their fritters. Their blueberry one is my favourite.
Meh. Not sure what the hype is all about.
A very satisfying maple bacon and double chocolate doughnut. A unique texture of crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. Will be heading back for more soon.
The dough is very good. They are excellent donuts, however I don't think it's worth the taste to pay $3 per donut. Also they didn't have a price for a box. Even withdraw the taxes when you purchase a lot, it is so expensive. I would recommend for one or two people who want to eat one or two donuts but for a group definitely go somewhere else.
Great donuts
Dense yet spongy cake donuts. Very moist and not overly sweetened. Very good overall :) I highly recommend taking the honey glazed and ricotta lemon.
Super delish vegan donut! Best donut I can recall having. This one was lemon matcha.
A bit pricey. Ok to try once.
Good place for donuts. We tried their only two vegan donuts - one of chocolate and another one (I guess) was coconut. The donuts were quite good - although quite sugary. We even tried their coffee - definitely avoid it. It doesn't have any seating space inside so you can just take the donuts out and have it somewhere else - plenty of seating space otherwise in the other areas of the market. During the rush hours, it can be crowded but their turnaround time is quite fast (which means you also decide on your donuts fast, not to hold up the line), so not an issue there.
Decent donuts, sadly they do not have gluten free options
Yummy donuts, blueberry crumble was my fav (:
Tiny shop Variety of gourmet donuts my favorite is oreo cookie Gotta try little pricey for 4 donuts 17 00 and change
Love the vegan options
Just had a basic chocolate donut but it was really fresh and delicious. Staff were friendly too. Great location in byward market!
Place smelled a tad bit like sewer upon entering and overall a very tiny donut store. I had a few of the donuts to try and wasn't necessarily blown away by the flavours or looks of them.. Didn't seem as appealing to me from the get to be honest. Not sure I'd recommend this place again but I mean, if you're not necessarily picky about the flavours or donuts in general you should give them a try. Otherwise, service was friendly and attentive.
The donuts are good and the variety of flavours is good. I've had better specialty donuts. In my opinion not a big enough "wow"' to justify the difference in price vs. local hockey player brand, but the kids liked them.
Great donuts! Perfect texture and flavour. Will be back for a dozen next time I’m in town.
(Translated) Very good donuts and service! (Original) Très bons beignes et service!
The donuts are pretty great, however the customer service lacks quite a bit for there being a "tip" option on the machine.
You are missing out on some amazing donuts if you haven't tried Maverick's! These donuts are excellent! Very flavorful, good selection
(Translated) Very good ! (Original) Très bon !
Says you’re closed at 6pm at byward market, but they wouldn’t let me in at 5:30
Amazing donuts. My family's favourite donut shop.
We got the Cinnamon Swirl and it was good. Cute place. Nothing exceptional though, especially given what else is on the market at that price.
Not for me. I love trying out bakery donuts and specialty donuts whenever I travel. This is the first time my reaction was "I wouldn't eat another one of these." They're a cake-based donut - VERY sweet - and the toppings (frosting) fall flat. I could barely finish an entire donut in one sitting. Maybe the vegan donuts are worthwhile? That's a different category/standard.
The donuts are AMAZING! But not worth breaking my neck. The floors were covered in grease. So much grease I was sliding on the pavement even outside of the store. It was so unsafe. And the kicker... no cream for my coffee!
Best donuts in Ottawa. Moist bread and not too thick. Really good variety of flavours from classics to unique.
(Translated) Mmmmm delicious (Original) Mmmmm délicieux
I placed an order for delivery last month and the end result was incredibly disappointing. 1. I ordered a dozen of their signature collection donuts and I only received 10/12. I attached pictures for reference. I contacted support and they refunded me for the price of the missing donuts. 2. The donuts must’ve been a day or two old. They didn’t look or taste fresh and some were obviously stale (e.g. Very Berry). WHY AM I RECEIVING OLD AND STALE FOOD? 3. Lastly, the delivery driver smokes in the delivery vehicle. I could smell the cigarette smoke on the box and on some of the donuts. Just awful. Overall, I am dissatisfied with my experience, especially since it was supposed to be a birthday surprise. The only good thing about my interaction with Maverick’s is their customer service team.
????????????????
Service was beyond my expectations. The woman behind the counter was exceptionally friendly and if I could, I'd rate higher than 5 stars. Also you'd have no idea that you were eating a vegan donut if it wasn't on the sign.
Not much choice, taste is ok though, surprisingly enough the vegan donut was of better taste and softer than the regular ones.
Excellent doughnuts! Fewer options than at their Bank St. location, but just as tasty.
Pick up your donut here. They are delicious!
Delicious donuts! The lemon ricotta is so delicious.
Nice service each time I've been in here. The double chocolate donut is surprisingly delicious, and marbled tasting inside. I know they use some kind of air freshener for a reason (fish shop next door), but I've had a donut here that tasted of winter mint - the air freshner. It is very strong in the air.
Simply unreal.
Interesting choice of donuts but if you can't make up your mind they have a freezer with frozen mixed donuts
I had a disappointing experience. Premium prices for ok donuts. The best ones were the cinnamon sugar. Pretty sure my lemon ricotta were missing the filing. -ok, where is the lemon and ricotta?? My friend told me it was piped into the donut hole. I had ZERO lemon flavour
Known for their cake doughnuts, but if they have fritters available, do not hesitate to get one. Easily the best I've ever had in this city.
2 years in a row our son wanted these donuts as a birthday cake. That's how good they are.
My favourite place for donuts! Delicious cakey texture and rich flavours. They always satisfy my cravings.
Deadly delicious
Popped in yesterday for a couple of vegan donuts, which were amazing. I had the cinnamon sugar & the Oreo -- there was also berry flavour available and there seemed to be plenty in stock (@ 1pm on a Saturday). Not sure if these are yeast or cake donuts; was surprised by how decadent these were. I will be back! My only request would be to add even more more vegan flavours (at my fav donut shop back home, >half of the donut flavours are vegan, but they don't label them as such -- so nobody is any the wiser except for the vegans who are specifically looking for them ;)) Just an fyi: the unpleasant smell in the store mentioned in one of the previous reviews appears to be back. Not a huge deal given that it's just a take out place (nowhere to sit in and eat here) but a little off-putting.
Mavericks was kind enough to give my workplace a free box of delicios doughnuts on the day they opened their Byward Market location and I've been hooked ever since. They are now our go to for staff birthdays, and I often bring a box of doughnuts to gatherings when I don't have the time to make something myself, and they are always well received. My favourite flavour is the lemon ricotta, but I'm yet to try one that I haven't liked (and lets be honest, I've tried them all). They are a small, locally owned business that gives back to the community , and often have promotions and giveaways. Whats not to like?
