REVIEWS OF Le Moulin de Provence IN Gatineau

Gerry Hionis

This place is just great! Fast and friendly service and the baked goodies always taste freshly made and the breakfasts are the best bang for the buck in town.

Grace Na

Had bought the big sugar cookies from here. They were very good and staff was sweet

Chintan Raichura

Authentic Italian Gelateria RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF BYWARD MARKET. Staff was sensitive to our allergic needs and approached with caution and a smiling face. Ice cream were authentic. Scoops were generous for the price We tried Pistachio and Dark Chocolate and loved them both. They close at 8 PM and I can only wish if they were open until 10. Pretty spacious

Eva De Castro

Love their pastries! Their breakfast platters are also good. Very good location (Byward Market)

Carlos Carrero

Great place to enjoy with friends and family, a lot of options to each from the pastry deserts and hot drinks.

Amy Howe

Customer service was absolutely terrible when trying to order over the phone. Was yelled at by rude employee! Count me out! We used to order from you steady!

Paul McAllister

Nice desserts and coffee in the heart of the Byward Market. Friendly staff too.

Tara Vicckies

Get the cookies!

Reza Sattari

The best croissant (dare au say) in town.

Rombaut Verdonck

The best bread in town.

Keegan Nadon

Got a cake for a family birthday, they didnt even spell "Birthday" correctly. Cake flavour was ... meh

Rahul Dighe

Went in the morning to pick up some savory breakfast. They have amazing pastries and baked goods. Would definitely rate 5/5. But when it comes to customer service, it is miserable. There is a guy at the front counter who was just being rude for no reason. I wanted to add a few things but he was being impatient and just wanted to get rid of us. I didn't say anything because there were too many people around and didn't feel like creating a scene. If that is the type of customer service at that store, I wouldn't recommend anyone going to that place just to be treated rudely!

It is always a pleasure to visit, if only to buy bread. The "Obama cookies" are always very popular, although they are super expensive (like 8$ each). The place does have a weird schedule though, as it closes early on week days, even during the summer when the Byward Market is packed. Check the schedule before you leave home, just in case!

Adel Tabibz

Just colorful shop. Not a very good customer service. Not a fresh products and coffee. Just attractive. It used to be good.

Gracia Rivas

Very expensive and low quality food. Had a sandwich, they use the microwave. U are better off buying the ingredients yourself. Had coffee, horrendous burned quality coffee. The only thing that is good is the pies with custand and fresh fruit. Otherwise stay very far away!

Yibot Z

We bought two bread from the shop with a great excitement, which ended with a disappointment. Bread was very dry as if it was on the rack over night and tasted dull- almost no flavor, just carbs. However they had a huge variety of bread, pastry, and cake selection, making it worth a visit.

Rocky Man

Has a variety of freshly baked breads, sandwiches , salads and desserts. Has a huge patio and gets very busy in the summer time. Located right in the heart of byward market. One of the better bakeries in Ottawa.

Eating a Obama cookies ???? at the French ???????? patisserie Le Moulin de Provence in Ottawa ⠀⠀ 10 years ago today, Thomas was in @visitwashingtondc for @barackobama inauguration with @mr1loveto @bryanbrock_ & @1loveto (Make sure to swipe the picture to see him back in time)

Eric Taillefer

Always a nice place to visit when you go to Ottawa. The shops are nice and there is a good variety of restaurants

Duramene Desir

Nice and quiet and clean place. Cheap things to buy and sell too

Juan G. S.

Nice place to sit, eat a sandwich and relax, little dirty though.

Hassan Masood

Got almond chocolate croissants, soggy from the bottom. Double Chocolate cookie did not have any chocolate taste

Sharine Pricilla

They have unbearable dessert. If you are sweeth tooth then you should visit this place.

James Purchase

This place is the best spot to go if you are looking for cheesecakes, pastries, sandwiches, cookies, meals and a wide assortment of breads. The staff are very friendly and there are lots of seating.

Had high hopes for this place given the popularity and reviews but had a bad experience with most of the pastries I tried. Pina colada pastry and the 3 chocolate mousse was good. Didn't like the hot chocolate, felt a little watery with not enough chocolate. Mango mousse was the most horrible thing I have tasted in a while, very bad consistency, bought it at the end of the day so maybe it was stale. The espresso chocolate pastry was okay but not something I would want to eat a second time.

Bhavya Jha

Unorganized, long long wait for just two cold Lattes. Very overpriced coffee, the quantity was very little and the coffee was diluted.

Dat Kraz Bastid

The most amazing selection of desserts available; from the famous Obama cookies to so many delicious pastures you're bound to spend a while trying them all. Of course they do serve more than just desserts but I have a sweet tooth.

Peaceful Puncher

Summary: Very big selection to choose from with something for everyone, food is decent but service is not great - People behind the counter were very slow, had trouble communicating in English and just seemed generally lost - The Latino gentleman with the jewellery charged us for an item we didn't order. He called the manager and said "this client claims that they didn't order..." as opposed to taking responsibility. - When we were finally refunded, we had to remind them that they also owe us a refund on the taxes that we paid. You would think a manager would know this. - The food itself was not terrible. We ordered a few different items and they were all mediocre. Some of it needed to be reheated twice and was still cold.

Toni Edmondes

A Byward Market Must for Sunday morning - service is pretty quick and courteous and prices aren't insane. A central location in The Market: start your day with a Latte ( old school - served in a bowl) and cheese croissant. Tons of seating if you get there before 0900/0930. If you are biking, use racks outside. Or take your coffee and pastry to go; walk up the status next to the big Ottawa sign and eat in the park for a little romance. ❤️

Joshua Turner

Busy, well-appointed boulangerie in the heart of the Market. Broad selection, all well-made.

Sarah O'Neill

I told the girl it was my friends bday and she made it special for me!! SO lovely ????

Doreen C

Popular café with a huge variety of cookies, desserts, and sandwiches. I came here twice for sandwiches (smoked salmon croissant, turkey and cheese baguette) which were quite tasty.

Karla Cisneros

My go to place for delicious French pastries ????. All the desserts, bread and cookies are amazing. Not a huge fan of the coffee/cappuccino/lattes (not strong enough for me) but everything else is fantastic ????!

Ahmed Shehab

Great selection of bread, pastries, sweet , sandwiches, and coffee. They also have a salad display fridge that I ordered Shrimp Salad which was unbelievable. The staff are amazing especially Iman who did every possible effort to answer my questions. The seating area was big and they have a very nice patio. The only thing that I didn’t like is there were bees all over some sections of the displayed pastries which I’ve seen customers leaving the store without ordering as they were considering it a hygiene issue. Other that that I highly recommend this shop for everyone.

Tony Hagan

Only ever bought bread from here ( and it's all very good). Today I wanted a coffee and their Americano was superb. Strong and hit the spot. Pleasantly surprised. Will be going back for more.

Mara North

We tried several plain croissants and an almond croissant early one morning. Plain croissant were doughy, not flaky and fresh as one would expect. The almond croissant was literally soaking in oil/butter. Not what we expected given the hype and great reviews.

Kim Calsbeck

*Update: (My previous review was and had always been 5 stars.) Today I made the rare 45 min trip downtown to pick up a couple of our bakery favourites. The cookies were so hard and dry, they must have been sitting out for at least a few days… they went right into the garbage, weren’t even edible. I definitely won’t be buying them again… pretty disappointing at almost $4 each. Maybe freeze your cookies and only take out a few at a time to reduce your waste so you don’t have to sell old baked goods? Looking at so many recent reviews, lack of freshness seems to be the new way the establishment is run. No longer the kind of place I’ll be recommending my friends and family to check out. (Previous review from 3 years ago) This is my favourite bakery in Ottawa. A great place for tourists to check out, and I always recommend that visiting friends check it out. I love their chocolate almond croissants.

Giwon Yun

A bit too sweet for me, but I really enjoyed this place. It’s one of my bucket lists to visit here. Very clean and staffs are lovely too!

Qiao Siman

Such a small ice coffee ????‍????????‍????????‍????????‍????????‍????

Anna Doxey

So many things to see down here, but this place has a little bit of everything. The washrooms are pretty clean too.

Am Villeneuve

The customer service and pastry quality are pleasant! The location and view are perfect for people watching. The coffee quality could be improved.

Rory McEwen

Don’t come here for coffee! They use nespresso pods, and their pastries have really gone down hill. I have been coming here since I was a kid, and I would barely call their almond croissants a croissant anymore. It’s more of a loaf of bread.

John Schneider

Had a really bad service here today. Their system for lining up to order do not make sense. The woman serving us was quite rude when we asked how we are going to order. She told us to follow the lines in the store and we did, yet she served people who just go directly to the register and she ignored all of us in that line. We waited 30 minutes for nothing and when we complained, the man wearing a pink shirt and a hat, whom I believe is the manager, kicked us out for calling out their bad system for ordering a piece of cookie. I will not recommend going here if you want good service. It was a waste of time and a horrible experience.

Bobo

Awesome place.

Mpobersnel

Quality varies wildly. I've had a strudel covered in mold before but the bread is usually amazing. The pastry is probably only good first thing in the morning. By the evening, it's a little soggy.

Natalia Korobenko

Always great choice of delicious deserts as well as a good options for lunch.

Braulio Antonio

Meh

Laetitia Schramm

I went two times to buy French pastries, and as I am actually French, I can tell you their pastries are definitely as good as in France. Very fancy and tasty pastries. My Canadian boyfriend loved them ;) next time I want to try bread and croissants ;)

Lester Schermerhorn

Stopped here as it was recommended from a friend. Walked out with some chocolate croissants for next mornings breakfast and a bread with olives baked in. All was good. It’s a little hectic inside with no one really knowing what to do or where lines are. Workers do a great job of somehow wrangling people in and getting them what they want despite the chaos.

Meaghan Piccolo

I really like the food and atmosphere of this restaurant. The sandwiches are nice, if a bit unimaginative and I've yet to try a dessert here that I dislike. They are a bit overpriced and the staff can be a bit rude.

Tim Mason

Good selection of baked goods and drinks. Great downtown location. Lots of choice. Friendly staff.

Dr Jazz

Great carrot salad ????

Kareena

[3.5/5] Super busy, which is always a good sign. Their almond chocolate croissants are really good. They served my latte in a “bowl” (or as another reviewer said, wide handle-less cup), so it was a little difficult to drink at first. Overall nice place, and would come again.

Goz Pain

Very bad customer service. Prices not worth it.

Lin Christine

Drink and food was really.....????

Bachir Jamali

This location deserves a better brand image... I can't unersrand why some restaurants are so cheap from furniture to quality service or food.. can't you have a fancier place in Ottawa ?? I mean at least you can change those plastic chairs...it's a shame for the capital of Canada

Mengdi Xia

The service was friendly and attentive. They have a huge selection of pastry, desserts, salads, and sandwiches. They also offer a buffet breakfast. But the food we ordered was really bad. I got the quiche, not sure what they did to it, or it's simply not fresh. The girls next table ordered croissants and they only had a few bites, before they left, they were like "this is really not good". And I agree. The location is the prime at byward market, but I bet the locals don't eat here since the food is just a hype because they are famous for their "Obama cookies".

Qiot Riot

Amazing selection of fresh pastries in the heart of the Byward market. Great selection of sandwiches and cakes too. An essential visit for visitors. Parking of course is challenging in this area especially during prime tourist season in the summer time. 15-minutes free parking on York St just outside and across the street is convenient if you just want to run in and out, if you are lucky enough to catch a spot. Pastry prices start from around $3-$5, cakes from $20 up. Treat yourself and forget how many calories you'll need to work off later.

Speckle S

Slightly better than terrible. Over priced goods for well below average quality. Didn't expect much to begin with but still ended up disappointed. We came shortly after noon on Sunday and got a roasted vegetable ciabatta which was already stale. Also got a chocolate danish which was greasy and soft and not flakey at all. As a foodie, I'd rather have Tim Hortons over this place based on taste and freshness alone. 1.5 stars if I could, for the wow factor just from seeing the wide range of selections displayed. Just that looks are deceiving in this case.

Benz Tran

I came here just for the desserts and pastries, and I was impressed. They had a wide selection of pastries and alot of them were great. I decided to eat where their patio sits, but it doesn't look like covid social distancing was enforced or maintained. Everyone would just sit close to eachother, people left their food on the tables, and all the surrounding garbage bins were over filled.

Alison D

Service was polite and helpful, although if you’re not familiar it can be confusing as there are no numbers and people were going in and out of the line up area. The cappuccinos were very good but the baked goods purchased were not good. I ordered a chocolate almond croissant and turkey and cheese and ham and cheese croissants. The filling in the chocolate almond croissant was tasty but the pastry was not crispy and didn’t taste fresh. Same was noted on the sandwiches. I didn’t try the tarts or the bread but they looked nice. I probably won’t go back for food though.

Anudeep Jain

Big name high prices but super low quality. Would definitely not recommend this.

Chirine Haddad

One of my favorite places in Ottawa as it is located in the heart of downtown. The staff is friendly and the desserts tastes good there.

YYZFRANK

This place is famous cause USA president Stoped by. Nice bakery but nothing to rave about the cookie was hard then I bought the one president Obama bought it was a surger cookie shaped as a maple leaf. They even have comerative tins that say this is where Barrack stoped.

Starlie Bree

I am trying to be nice here, but this place is really disorganized. I know there is a pandemic going on an we are trying our best but its super awkward to manage the order traffic with in the sectioned off area. I was asked fro my order the moment I walked in which was a little intense...since I had just walked in. I also got charged for the wrong order. The worker seemed stressed so I don't blame her. when I got my 9 dollar sandwich it was supppper dry, no mayo no butter nothing but a dry turkey slice and iceberg lettuce. For 9 dollars ... that was so disappointing. Its a shame that this place used to be so good but now it seems messy and rushed. Hopefully when the pandemic is over they can fix the orginzation up.

gary stacey

Great location! And huge selection! Mostly hand made on site!

sana'a hassib

Caffee shops and restauants. A very popular place for Canadians living either in Ottawa or Gatineau and more for tourists. Vegetable market and plants, flowers. Gatineau residents walk to Ottawa through the bridge on the Ottawa River, just a twenty minutes walk if not less with a very nice view of the boats on the river. Walking on that bridge you can see the Parliament, the meuzium of civilaisation and th Gallery of Ottawa by the end of the bridge. It is the best area in downtoun Ottawa. Le Moulin Deprovence is in the Market area serving coffe and sandwiches, and the best pastries in the world. When President Obama visited Canada for the first time they made cookies with his name on it. It is one very popular event.

Adam Richardson

Good food, good atmosphere, but a little disorganized with the ordering process.

Sylvain Leblanc

Not cheap, but used to be worth it. I especially love the almond croissants and apricot pie. I now give the place 3 instead of 5 stars as of January 2017. Pies I bought last week were nowhere as good as what I've had in the past.

Francois G

Moulin the Provence... where to start where to start... hmmm so many choices of baked goods OM-G!!!! Ranging from average tasting to simply succulent, I do recommend a visit there. Although their "Fougasse" are not up to par with some other bakeries in the area, their cookies and cakes will surely please most sweet tooth out there. Have a good one!

Peter Vogelsanger

Very nice food in a great market place

Julia K.

The best place in Ottawa! Their croissants are soo delicioussss ????, breakfast was amazing! Everything i bought there was super fresh and tasty! Worth the trip . Thank you for your hospitality ❤️

Marc Marc

I live very close to this place. I basically go here to order the chocolate almond croissant. They used to be consistently great but on my last eight visits (that's the actual number of visits) I've gotten dry or burnt product. I literally stare at fresh looking awesomeness in the display case but I receive junk. I keep saying I can never go back or I should just verbally request new ones after inspecting them at pick up but I'm disappointed this even needs to be considered.

Bahram Zahir

Great pastries.

Jeremy Kennedy

Amazing baked goods and treats. Great service, too.

María Eugenia Basualdo

Not a fancy place but great pastry and great surroundings. Full of life.

Sukh Pabla

Great Pastries and Danishes. Absolutely love their Apple Danish. Customer service was great.

Katia S

Terrible experience. We ordered egg Benedict, it tasted like frozen dinner. We got the refund and left.

Lewelyn Lee

We stopped for a quick treat. Got the raspberry and lychee macaron and the meringue and they were both delicious. Planning on coming back tomorrow for breakfast.

Visda Vokhshoori

It is quite crowded especially on the Saturday when we visited. We didn't see staff clean the tables. It is self serve. You choose what you want, pay for it at the counter, and throw away your plates and cutlery. The sandwiches are alright.

Uladzislau Kulakevich

Ordered 2 cappuccino, a flan and a tart with fruits. Niether of us liked the food or cappuccino. Everything is very untasteful. They don't accept AmEx, although the cashier told us that they do.

Anis Izem

Very bad service, I don’t recommend

I was strolling at Byward Market and was curious about this bakery, which has good reviews online..its called Le Moulin De Provence. I went in and the staff were friendly :) I tried their pecan tart...the best I have tasted !!! Lots of nuts and it was so good! Highly recommend! The guy also gave me a couple of their huge croissant ( free!!! ) and I loved it! So fresh, and taste so yummy! I like the one without the chocolate filling, only because I am not a big fan of chocolate in my bread. Highly recommend that too! So I went back for more of their other stuff! They have variety of selections of pastries, desserts for your appetite. Great location easy to find. This is a place you don't want to miss if you're visiting Byward Market! Cheers!

Antonio Audet

Their Christmas Log Cakes are beautiful and delicious! We've decided to make them a Christmas Tradition for our family. Thank you Moulin de Provence!

Adnan Ansah

Been coming here for 7 years every time I come to Ottawa from Toronto but this time in August 2018 I experienced racism every time I came here for 4 days straight. Specially at the ladies in the front bakery. More so she shouted and yelled at my 2 year old when my daughter was removing flies off their food on display. This left a very taste in experience and we left and would never come back to this place and make others aware that’s there is discrimination here and they treated us really badly and poorly. Food also has hygiene issue, and I would be complaining this to human rights department for their unethical behaviour against their customers , a lot of south Asians experienced it at this bakery but I refused to believe it. Guess what My whole family experienced it 4 days in a row !!! Absolutely disappointed at this day and age. I would expect an apology from the owner because they certainly don’t have any attributes of Obama!

Monica

Amazing selection of pastries and savoury foods! Always a joy coming by as the staff is friendly and efficient despite how busy it can get during the weekends @nomsoftoronto

Dumitru Muraru

Food looks like frozen diner and smells bad, taste bad.

One of my favorite bakeries in Ottawa! It’s a French business and has a very home style feel with all of their treats! Everything is super tasty, and they also have really delicious deli options. I’ve been coming her for over 10 years

Mélanie Barré

Baked goods are all mass-produced. Lack of freshness is apparent. Taste is lacking in flavour and overall quality is bad. Highly disappointed in this downtown Ottawa favourite. Other bakeries in the area such as The French Baker are much better options and serve more pleasing, tasteful, and elegant baked goods than Moulin de Provence.

Eric Burant

The sourdough bread is excellent, as are their rolls and Olive loaf. The cookies seem a little overpriced for the quality. Staff is quick and efficient. The place stakes itself on the fabled visit by President Obama to the bakery during his first visit to Ottawa, but the "Obama cookie" itself is so-so. People seem to really enjoy the coffee, as the cafe is usually full and vibrant. A fine place to stop in at while you wander the market.

Shubham Gandhi

Had almond croissant (best I have ever had), chocolate danish, and mocha - enjoyed all of them!

Amie

Located on the core of Byward Market, this is a stop for me every time I’m in Ottawa. There is a lot to choose from so be ready to make a decision on what to pick. I haven’t had their sandwiches or drinks but from what I saw they seem pretty tasty. I’ve never had an issue with service, they are welcoming and patient for those having to take a bit more time to choose from their many products. On my last trip out I got the lemon danish, meringue and double chocolate cookie. Both the Danish and Meringue were superb and I would highly recommend trying if you go. My reason for the 4 stars is for the double chocolate cookie. The taste was there but the freshness was lacking as the cookie was not soft but hard. I’m not sure if that’s the way they are going with their cookie but it is more of a crunch than a melt in your mouth. would recommend stoping here on your trip to the market!

breanna sherk

I love this bakery. The country loaf of bread is the best! I tried the barley soup and it did not have a lot of flavour or taste. The almond croissant was as good as I used to eat in France daily. So amazing! We also ordered the crab panini and it was so good I had to get it two days in a row. I also tried the smoked salmon on a croissant and it was good but the crab was better. We also tried the pecan tarts and they were fairly good but a bit more nutty than a filling in the middle.

Michelle Sorenson

Loved the pastry, but didn't love the styrophoam plate it was served on. Sorry to say that we wont't be back until this changes. There are just so many better re-usable or biodegradable options.

Ghen Quiban

Pastries, sandwiches, macaroons, superb heavenly confections. Watch out for cranky Carolyn (poor customer service) at the cash. Otherwise, a gem of a place.

Paul Harness

Possibly the only decent tasting cup of tea I had in the whole of North America

arnaud lanois

It's as bad as it looks like. Probably the worst food in Canada and it is so expensive!

Ann Vernille Velasco

Must try EVERYTHING!!! This place is a gem in Ottawa! Their pastries, sweets, desserts.. breakfast items are must try especially their SOUR DOUGH BREAD! OLIVER is an MVP! It was very busy and he is like speedy gonzalez, ARIBAAA ARIBAA! He helped his co-workers and you can tell by his face that HE LOVES HIS JOB! Thanks for our breakfast. Ham and Cheese Croissant, Pecan Tart and Capuccino. Purchased pastries to bring back to Toronto :)

Stéphane Lafortune

Good services

Solecitosays

I continue to come here because the cookies are super delicious. You need to try them. Excellent service too! All covid measures in place an a lot of options to decide on. Bravo!

Yu-Chu Su

Paid for a cheese cake, a flan, a croissant. Opened the box when I got home and found that they forgot the croissant. The other two dessert tasted ok. This could've not happened if the store was just a bit more organized. The line-up is confusing and how you're supposed to get serviced is confusing.

Ellen Wong

Location and opening hours, it's pretty good – I'd give 4/5. Service-wise, they're pretty decent and attentive: 3/5. The food though...I came here at lunch and bought a quarter beef stew pie, and also a large cookie. It might just be the items I happened to choose that were both bad. The pie had chunks of beef that were so dry it was borderlining on the Chinese shredded pork floss stuff. Only it wasn't quite crispy either. It was drier and chewier than beef jerky. Flavour was good. They also kinda just threw it into a box, but that's ok, doesn't affect the flavour anyway. The oatmeal raisin cookie...was also dry and hard. Hurt my teeth to chew. Flavour-wise, it didn't taste like what I'd expect oatmeal raisin cookies to taste. There's this strong bitter orange peel after taste. 2/5, at least based on the items I got.

Jason Woo

Service was very polite. The prices are pretty high tho. However the croissant and tart was to my liking. Delicious

Ted Liu

My little sister loves the cookies here, she asks me to bring her a maple shaped cookie every time I go back to China

Annie King

They made my wedding cake and exceeded all my expectations. I know this place is great, the food is tasty and beautiful. But I had to cancel my large wedding and original cake at the beginning of the pandemic, and asked these guys to step up last-minute with an order far smaller than I'm sure they are used to, with barely any direction or communication with me, and they still blew my mind! Our mini wedding in the fall was made that much more special because our tower of cream puffs was a total showstopper! This was also shockingly affordable. Maybe not for a large group, but for 15 ppl it was beautiful and far, far, far below any wedding cake budget I've ever seen.

Marc 13

Excellent sourdough. Good covid spacing and a large selection of cakes, pastries and treats. Never a bad idea to grab an Obama cookie!

Pierre Marty

Small comprehension issues due to the loudliness but very kind and comprehensive waiters

jeff zhao

Nice cake and cookie, Mr. Obama tried before, taste is good !

TD Nguyen

The coffee is good but the service is chaotic...

Hai Vu

Lots of European treats. Cafeteria style seating. Upscale pricing.

Samantha Margaret

their brie and tomato panini is probably one of the most disgusting things I've ever eaten....thick overpowering brie cheese and extremely watery lettuce and tomato on a bun....for $6.

Mike Stanciu

Loved this place. Went every morning, every day we were here. Amazing cappuccino and pastries. Will go again tomorrow before we leave to go home, to grab some sandwiches for the long drive. Would def recommend. Try the almond ????, wow!!

Orson S

Spent a weekend in Ottawa for our first anniversary and my wife fell in love with the Obama cookies, so for her birthday, on a whim, I tried contacting the bakery to see if they would send me a few dozen. Well sure enough they were able to pull it together and got me her present well on-time. She loved it and because she does, I guess I do. Well worth the visit.

Brent Mikaelsen

Nice variety of cookies, pastries and cakes. Friendly service and a nice open atmosphere. Great place for a quick coffee and snack.

Christian Navarro

Great variety of pastries and desserts. Kind and fast service. Very clean.

Joy Vestal

Loved the pastries I had and counter staff was great! I was turned off by the Barack Obama cookie display, ain't Canadian really.

Stacey Wu

This place is one of my classic favourites in the Market but today I was extra impressed. I had to pick out a huge amount of pastries for the company breakfast and the girl behind the counter was very friendly and efficient. After labeling each box with the different kinds of pastries it contained she boxed them up beautifully and even helped carry some boxes back to my office! Excellent service and products - we are very pleased :)

Visited Aug 29 2021. This place has the best Mille-Feuille I've ever had in Ontario. Great Vanilla and blueberry tart. The Mille-Feuille in Toronto is so bad.

S Tahboub

The bees are adorable.

Deny Trudel

As a local, this spot definitely feels like a tourist trap. And it is. But during the week, early in the morning before any tourists have collected in the market, it's still a nice spot for a good pastry and coffee. The selection is second to none and the people are friendly. Tough to beat that.

LP S

We had a great meal there before going on a tour of parliament.

Martina T

Not a great selection of coffee drinks, cappuccino was mildly disappointing, very nice selection of pastries and cakes, sandwiches were ok, nothing exceptional.

JJ Gagne

Stopped for coffee and tart a few days ago and was reasonably impressed, however today NOV 13 ordered a hot chocolate. What I got tasted like chocolate powder with hot water. For which they charge close to 6 dollars. It tasted terrible... this is not what a coffee bar should be serving.

Angelito LeMontréalais

Great pastries and café! Friendly and helpful staff.

Mathieu Leclerc

Amazing bread and awesome sandwiches mixed with great service! Love this place

Jeff Romney

Good bakery and a lot of variety. The pastries and bread are both really good.

Sakeena Salahuddin

Tried croissants, everything was fresh but the hot chocolate was subpar. The bakery tables were a bit messy. I’d rather buy and eat out.

Jackie Wei

nice cookies

Kyle Nissen

Beyond ridiculous quality of cutlery. Also massively lacking on presentation. This was to stay option. Pretty sad.

Csaba Lányi

Perfect place for eating!

Banana Milk

Honestly, this is my go-to bakery in Ottawa. Not only is the quality above par, the staff are genuinely AMAZING. Quite honestly, I go there for both the food and the warm and welcoming experience. Everyone is relaxed and yet they manage to provide the quickest and kindest service. Finally, the manager or owner is hands down the most generous person. I routinely buy Olive fougasse from there for my mom and never have I left that place without some extra (free) goodies in my bags that were added by the owner. Trust me when I say: it's a must stop in Ottawa.

Being new to Ottawa, I have been there several tines and tried their pastries. More like almond croissant. Very good quality even though by the look of it, you will not think the product is good. But the product is really good and made with better ingredients. So I like their pastries. On the other hand, prices are on the hight side, and the almond croissant is about $4 for one piece. Coffee is mediocre. Also, too crowded weekend time. Staff seem to be more French speaking and if you are an English speaking person, you gotta speak slow and use simple words. Overall, I like this place due to quality of pastries and the authenticity of it. So, that's my take for this place. Try it for yourself.

Dave Deco

Fantastic place to grab a quick bite. Delicious selection of salads (pasta, seafood, greek etc.) and sandwiches. Also the pastries are excellent. Located at a street corner of the market it is ideal for people watching and a stroll through the market afterwards.

Ralf Winter

Great selection of sweets and sandwiches, very good coffee and wonderful service.

Paul Croes

Not as nice as I remembered. Been a long time since I was in Ottawa and this place was no improvement. Lots of staples not there and the ser ice was surly. Not interested in us. Too bad, used to be good.

Hamdan Alhamdan

Great place for Pastries.

Tara Herne

Lemon tarts are to die for. The pastry literally melts in your mouth!

Ovidiu Zaharia

Pastry was stale, the croissant tasted like cardboard. Panini was cold, stuck to the paper, and the bread was wet - and I didn’t take it to go, I asked for it to be grilled, it would have tasted better if it was microwaved. Coffee wasn’t any better. Service was lousy. Even a big chain grocery store has better quality food don’t waste your time and money here.

Sheryl Zulueta

Nice place to visit. Got my Obama cookies and was completely satisfied.

Bruce Pilcher

A review of this establishment was created in my name. The review was very negative and gave a one star rating. I do not believe I have ever been here. I apologize to the owners of this business. I have deleted the review. I haven't been to Le Moulin De Provence so I am not able to review or rate; however a rating is required to post this message. I will try to visit next time I am in Ottawa. Again my sincere apologies.

Rheanne Perry

Love their pastries, desserts and coffee. Their bread is a little on the lackluster side (it's good, but not the same quality as everything else).

Ash Lamba

This place serves fresh baked sandwiches, croissants, quiche, pizza, etc. The place also has a huge variety of pastries, tarts, macaroons, cookies. The food is artisanal. I ordered a fruit tart, a spinach quiche and a latte. The tart and latte were really good but the quiche didn’t taste fresh. If you’re in Byward Market then you should definitely visit this place.

Camille Theophile

Kind of loud and busy but I still appreciate the large variety of desserts and breads they offer. I love their focaccia and their "milles feuilles". The staff is bilingual which is always great. Am not the biggest fan of their cookies or their pastries (croissants, pain au chocolat etc...)

John Paul Handrigan

We stop in here everytime we're in the market. Our kids love the cookies. They have ones based on the season.

Rasta Mon

Pricey but amazing food and desserts, public seating

C G

Croissant sandwich was good, coffee and friendly service!

Ian MacLennan

Double chocolate cookie was on the dry side. Pecan tart was mediocre. Meringues were nothing special. Things here seem to appear better than they actually taste. Builds up with high hopes but ultimately a let down.

Chris Zimny

Great baked goods. Worth repeated visits.

Sauste34

Pay attention when paying! this is the second time that "accidentally" things have been charged that I did not order. the "salmon sandwich" hardly contained any salmon, and the bread did not taste fresh. you've lost another customer, and it looks like I'm not the only one. 0 stars

David H. Nguyen

I came here to try the Obama cookies. They were...meh. Just sugar cookies with a lot of icing. I got the raspberry filled one and it was decent. It's almost $4 CAD so quite a bit for just 1 cookie. They sure to promote the heck out of these things though.

John Lapa

amazing place, tasty food and incredible staff

Leili Abkar

One of the best latte I have ever had So delicious pastries

M. B. Vaisman

The place is very good. We had the macrons and lots of pastries (5 of us over to visits). The butter croissant was a little soft and I would have preferred it to be more buttery and crispy. Otherwise, very good.

Dave C

We always come here for baked goods when in Ottawa. It reminds us of the cafes you'd find in France. There is no shortage of choice when it comes to pastries. I'll vouch for the croissants and the lattes. They are great. Prices are a bit high, but hey, President Obama came here so they are famous now!!!

Carla Sieve

Super family friendly staff. We arrived at closing time just as the door was being locked and my 7 year old was so dissappointed she cried. The man locking the door saw her and invited us in even though they were closing. He was so kind he even gave her an extra cookie on the house. I was very impressed by this service and how far he went to make a child happy. Certainly made us repeat customers!

sloane rosen

Very large and spacious bakery. They have the famous Obama cookies (we got an owl and a unicorn) as well as other well priced treats (the fruit tart and scone). Would recommend to anyone to take a stop by and get something if they haven't.

Todd Johnson

Great baked goods and ready made food - can't go wrong here

Kyle Colvin

Great fresh bread and assorted snacks. Will be sure to drop by again next time we vacation this way.

Jo Povall

When I am in Ottawa I always end up at this cafe at some point. Serve very nice coffee, hot chocolate, and tea. Amazing breads and pastries. Sandwiches and sides are also amazing. Lovely place to go to and just watch the girls go by at Byward market.

Jamie Hopkins

Large dessert and snack selection. I will say thought for a cafe their warm drinks selection was rather small. Plus all their cold drinks apart from iced latte are just popular bottled pops and juices. That being said that's where the negatives end. Lovely place to stop in and grab a treat.

Daisy Liu

The desserts look amazing. The only thing I do not like is that they heat croissant in the microwave instead of an oven, which destroys the taste.

Rosanna Crawford

$11 for a gross salmon croissant with one piece of wilted lettuce.

L Tam

Wide selection of pastries, bread, sandwiches, dessert and prepared entrees. Breakfast is available. Loved their soups.

Marie-Pierre Nantel

Very pricey for the quality. Cakes are fine, but definitely not worth the price, save you money.

Oren Shelef

French shick! Pleasure

Swati Dixit

Awesome good. Great staff. Don't miss the macarons

El Houlding

Get the chocolate religieuse. Friendly staff. Gluten free option across the street.

Rache P

Ordered a chocolatine and chocolate was hard to find, even though the bun was already empty inside. All puff but no pastry. Ordered a cookie and it's a factory made taste. One star because location is convenient.

Rozy Penaloza

The obama cookies are a running joke between my friend and i! Great pastries! Definately a must visit place in Ottawa

R o3738

I've never seen a pastry selection this huge!

Leo Lee

If you find yourself in the Byward Market area, you have to go here to sample their pastries.

David Bobnar

Very rude and ignorant staff. The food looks great but very average tasting. Don't waste your time and go to a real bakery.

Abe Darwiche

Great coffee with various selections of French pastries. The pastries could be better but the ambiance is wonderful! Would totally recommend

John Berichon

What a fine place to treat yourself to excellent pastries (great patio for breakfast in the summer)and let us not forget winter of course.

Alicia Villaruel

Perfect place for a cup of coffee and some yummy pastries ????

Simon Auffrey Arsenault

Every-time we come to Ottawa, we stop at this bakery. Very good selection! I mean, there are so many choices, and the cakes and cookies themselves are very good, and what's best, they offer options for lunch! But one thing I must say, is that it's not very clean ( tables).

Mukta Dharne

Tasty treats. Slightly on expensive side but well worth it

Tara M

All I can say is I hope Obamas cookies were fresh!!! Went in today on a Saturday and purchased some cookies for my kids and 2 of there bar treats. A date bar and a almond type bar. Pretty disappointed at how stale it all was. We ate about 2 bites. It tasted like stale air, that taste you get when things are left in a cooler fridge for days.... I wouldn't go back. If you can not get fresh items on a busy Saturday then there is a problem.

Raquel David

Not the freshest food, coffee is only Nespresso machine, no regular croissants, the place is not very clean :(

Raquel David

Mehdi Ben Ayed

Great place to get authentic french baked food. Service was amazing with a large selection of items. The restaurant also does not accept tips (this is extraordinary for a restaurant/bakery in Canada) I got a quiche, a croissant and a coffee. The quiche was a delicious but a bit too salty for me. I highly recommend this location.

Jamie Chesson

We had a drink and breakfast here, staff was nice and everything looked delicious! It’s a nice spot to start your day, lots and lots to choose from in Byward Market.

Brittany McDougall

I left super disappointed with this place. When I walked in I couldn't figure out what was happening.. There was three tills and three or four distinctly different sections. People were lined up at the far end of the bakery but people also seemed to be just walking up to the showcases to order food. I couldn't figure out where I was suppose to go or stand. There were arrows on the floor but people seemed to be ignoring them. There were no signs or anything to help me navigate the bakery. I didn't want to just get in a line and it be for something I didn't want. I thought I'd wait at one end for a staff member to be free and ask them what I'm suppose to be doing. When I finally got a staff member he asked if I had already ordered and I said that I hadn't and was just trying to figure out where to go/what to do. He said he could take my order but we hadn't even really looked at what was available just the high "tourist" prices. We left with only two loaves of bread because that was the section we were at and were just very "done" with the whole experience. I really wish I could have ordered actual food or pastries. There was so much confusion, anxiousness, and people that I just walked out. I'm giving two stars because the bread was alright.

Guilherme Ribeiro-Tardin-Costa

This bakery is really great. They don't even need to advertise Obama's visit from years ago, but tourists seem to like it anyway. Try their macarons, pastries and especially the rustic bread.

Shubhi Arora

It's a huge bakery right at the heart of Byward Market. They have a varied collection of pastries, cakes, bread, small meals etc. Looks fancy and has a big sitting space. But when it comes food, it tastes just average, nothing that would make me wanna go there again. I have tried a lot of things, over the time now. I visited this place many times now and my opinion has been consistent.

Laith A.

Nice place in the market. Went for a coffee. The latte I had tasted good, I liked the coffee, and they have a signature style serving coffee in wide, handle-less 'cups' that are probably soup bowls. A wide variety of food that looks good but I haven't tried it. The reason for the 3* : tables were dirty and not cleaned well, and the soup bowl concept, the huge wide open top makes the coffee cool down too quickly, you won't enjoy a hot drink for too long. Go check out the place, try the food, but order coffee in to go cups to enjoy it hot for a longer time.

Lennart Franke

Friendly staff. Delicious bread. Don’t forget your Obama cookie here while you are in Ottawa.

George Valenzuela

Every Saturday morning, fresh croissant, scone and a hot coffee. It's a little piece of heaven in the heart of the city.

George Semple

Terrible! Tried baked goods, they were tasteless, dry and not fresh. Quiche and Salmon pie. Looks were deceiving. Did not try the deserts - they look ok, so might taste good I suppose. Busy tourist type place where it doesn't matter if you come back I guess. You can do much better nearby. Overpriced for what it was.

Ana Soloviov

Really good pecan dessert, coffee eclair, almond/pear tart. Surprisingly good lattes too!

S M Navid Iqbal

Really cool place to have bakery food and humongous cups of coffee. We ordered Latte and Mocha and they came in huge cups. It was perfect for a winter evening. We also ordered couple of danishes and the fruit Danish taste to perfection. The service was top notch as well. Servers let me charge my phone.

Adam Z

Some of the worst coffee I've ever had in my life. Coffee flavoured hot water would be a better description.

Kerri Grant

They don't not how to be courteous or professional to customer's. I am medically exempt from wearing face masks. This was approved by my doctor. When I arrived, the employee had zero respect. When I told her this and she accused me of being a liar, I pointed to my pin that says I am medically exempt. She still did not believe me and demanded proof. I had to show her the Ottawa patient bylaw which clearly states that having proof of a medical exemption is not required due to the Canadian law of doctor patient confidentiality. This employee clearly can not understand simple laws and rules, and she also doesn't understand what it means to treat people with respect. Management at this place really needs to do a better job at training their employees, though there's a possibility that management is just as incoherent as their employees. This employee should not be working in a place that requires any level of customer service. I've attached the bylaw as proof.

Steven Siffledeen

Service and food was average. Wasn't super sure how the line worked either (there were arrows all over the floor). Felt like the whole draw was for the Obama (Maple leaf) cookie and even that seemed a little played out.

Esteban Naranjo

Alright food, good desserts!

Peter Michalski

One dessert was stale and the other had a hair in it. This place lives off of its location and marketing gimmicks. Would not recommend. Also just noticed the owner is rude to anyone who complains on here. >but muh 20 years Nice location and marketing. Baking was subpar.

SAP Consulting

Broad selection of fresh pastries, breads & coffees for take out. Patio open too.

Scott Gorry

Cool place with a lot of options for entertainment and food

Mahmoud Abdelmotalib

This place is a landmark in Byward Market. They have variety of sweets, cakes, sandwiches and salads. They provide coffee with different types and have an indoor and outdoor settings. The prices are a bit high but quality is good. The staff are welcoming and friendly.

Hareem Ahmed

Awesome bakery! A little something for everyone. Home of the Obama cookies!

Philippe Haggart

Excellent products, good service but both the manager and the bakers have decided to ignore wearing masks indoors. I have personally witnessed it on at least 4 different occasions and finally realized that this was a systemic issue. I would recommend avoiding until the pandemic is over. I went back one morning on the week of June 21st 2021 and hoped to see everyone wearing a mask and was disappointed yet again. The poor front counter staff are diligent and are aware that the bakers in the kitchen disregard public health measures by not wearing masks indoors around the food and each other but are plainly frightened to speak up to the manager. This tells me that the owner didn't make enough of an impact when she visited and found her staff mask less. I had hoped to erase this bad review but it appears that it will have to stay for the time being.

José Ricardo de Mello Brandão

Good cafe and bakery. Not their fault but too many bees today.

Oscar

Picture of Obama needs to finally come down, like alright he went to your store that was years ago. Nobody really cares, pastries weren't fresh, too sticky and the chocolate on the pastries itself kept getting stuck on my fingers like a melting chocolate bar. Saw a fly on some of the bread and told one of the employees. "Nothing i can do about it" like are you f****ing kidding me?? Do not recommend this place. Had a better experience at Rideau McDonalds

Destiny Sparkles

How many almond croissants can one eat in a visit to Ottawa??? I'm not sure but, I'm up to 4. Those things are addictive! The broccoli salad was good, too. ;-)

P K

Unique and friendly atmosphere!

Rebekah Spratt

As a paramedic, we were happy to discover this place open over the holidays. A little hard to navigate what I wanted due to sheer size, but my food was delicious and staff were friendly and helpful.

Franck Desormiere

Great location and place to eat sweet ans salty french type of food. A bit pricey but very tasty products

Alisha Agarwal

Great variety of patisserie & everything in between. Stayed in the city for two nights and visited the cafe twice. Would totally recommend you check it out. Mecca for dessert lovers!:)

GWoo

Very popular eatery, can be busy depending on the time.

Jason Mullis

Amazing Selection Staff

Kathy Jaeger

One of my favorite places for pastries. Savoury food leaves alot to be desired but the pastries and coffees are superb

Jonathan Jones

Great bakery. Excellent range of breads, pastries and other desserts.

Вася Петечкин

Paid more than $8 for a mediocre croissant (definitely nowhere near fresh) with salmon. Doesn't even have cream cheese. Just soggy, disgusting lettuce. Also the managers constantly have masks hanging off their chins, while other employees are wearing them. Great leadership. Credit where it's due however - their danishes are always solid - 5/5.

Mehrzad Namdari

Lots of pastry , bread and dessert , tasty and delicious tarts, eclairs and others. You can find whatever you want. Friendly and courteous staff. Made our trip to Ottawa , sweet.

W S

Good strong coffee. Love the seating area which is great for people-watching.

Cauan Donizette

Awesome place, everything amazing!

Where: Moulin de Provence, Ottawa What: A coffee shop with lots of pastries ! How was it: Funny that being an Ottawa native, I never set foot inside. Once I moved to another city, I ended up here. It has a very touristy feel to it, but a nice place to have a quick bite, snack or afternoon hot beverage. Grade: Eli = 4, Serge = 4 Recommend: check it out.

Craig Wood

This is a hard place for me to rate and review. Initially I wanted to give it 5 stars and I'll tell you why. I do not live in Ottawa but have been a regular through the Ottawa area (not business but for a variety of reasons) over the past 8 years and Moulin De Provence has always been a place I regularity stop and purchase a couple of my favourite pastries (Black Forrest danish and florentines). And even though I know not everything they make is 100% traditional I will say that "I LIKE THEM". I must admit (and so will my waistline) that I am a bit of a connoisseur of pastries and other deliciously rich foods and have sampled these foods from some of the "best" pastry shops around the globe. I hate to bash anyone else's review as I cannot speak to their experience or their particular tastes and culinary references they have to compare the pastries they've eaten at Moulin, but, this is a place that I find has something for everyone. Moulin De Provence has a fantastic selection of pastries and breads, from traditional to the more elaborate. I agree that posting pictures of the Obama and Trudeau is rather tasteless and weakens their brand as a whole, but that doesn't mean their baking is any less delicious and worthy of splurging on. That being said (and maybe I'm being harsh in my rating) but I did deduct one star for their whoring of the U.S. President visiting years ago, as well as another star reduction for some of the customer service I've received there. I'm not going to delve into this in great detail because it's one of those things that can happen at any establishment at anytime and it's never been a constant here, but, customer service is an important factor of any business and a staff member or two may have charmed their way through the interview process much to the businesses chagrin. So what's the deal with Moulin De Provence? If you've never been just go, take a look, try something out and see what you think yourself. Honestly it's a hard place to review because some things they do well (Black Forrest danish even though rich and sweet it's something you must try) and somethings they don't do well (stop with the Obama whoring).

Jenny Livingston

Stopped in here for a treat while we strolled around enjoying Winterlude. I had the chocolate almond croissant and my boyfriend had the almond croissant. Both were amazing! I preferred the chocolate almond over the regular almond, and so did my boyfriend. He found the pastry to be a bit too moist for his liking as he likes crunchy pastry, I however love softer pastries. The following day we stopped in again to pick up some almond/almond and chocolate croissants for family we were seeing later that day in Montreal before attending a wedding. Some of the croissants were put out for the guests, and I heard several comments stating they were actually better than some of the catered desserts! The service was fast, very friendly and bilingual. Prices were a bit high, but everything is made in house, looks amazing, and from what we sampled, tastes amazing! Can't wait to come back in the summer!

Lorraine Restoule

Wasn't impressed with the food I got ... soup was really bland and the little quiche was cold and mushy he.put it in the microwave .. not impressed.. but being from out of town we went up the street and got a beaver tail and it was so yummy...

Orville Elliston

Excellent little pastry shop. It's a place I have to stop whenever I am in or near Ottawa. I thank God that I don't live closer, because my efforts at the gym would be futile.

J Bachmeier

You will find a little of everything here. Great place to stroll through right in the heart Byward Market.

Karen Stockwell

Good ambiance. Quick service. Great desserts / baked goods / coffee. Lots of seating right in the centre of the market. Great atmosphere and delicious food!

Nidhi Gupta

Place is located inside the Byward Market. They had so many delectable options for desserts. The tarts, buches, macaroons looked so good. I ordered a chocolate bushe and it was one of the best deserts I have had in a long time. Service was quick and servers were helpful.

Michael Bierstock

I love this bakery! Coffee and desserts that will make you think you are strolling the streets of Paris!

Paul Gent

Just gorgeous bakery. Great selection, lovely staff, beautiful bread.

Edzel Tabing

Large selection of french pastries. Attentive staff.

Jon Aikens

Great French bakery, cookies/sweets in the French styke, amazing sandwiches, coffee/tea, and the famous Obama cookie is still on offer. A lunch destination.

Saurav Gupta

overpriced sandwiches decent quality. go to Bottega instead (for sandwiches) Good bread and pies selections though

Jeriko Konichi

can this place stop advertising with their obama visit and maybe change the food quality?

NM

Amazing bakery! Many choices! You can get a French style "gallete de rois" in January for a good price!

Luke Koops

I love this place. I have been coming here for years. The "opera" cake is a classic, I come for the quiche, apricot brioche and espresso macchiato. The staff is always attentive and energetic. They really get a kick out of making their customers happy. The prices are reasonable, the location is excellent and they refuse to take tips.

Michael McKeough

Love this place. A real Ottawa gem. Worth every penny. Try an Obama cookie... lots of options. It's a full buffet style place. Something for everyone.

Kenneth Kimmes

What an amazing selection of patisserie, sandwiches and salads! A large selection of food and a large amount of seating available both inside and out.

Suzy Waskawich

We came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. No communication on which line to stand in, which also took a very long time. Service was non existent, drinks took a very long time and the actual food you had to go to another line for to get. We waited 25 minutes in line, waited 15 minutes for drink and then another 10 for the food. Drinks were okay... The hot chocolate was un drinkable, a waste of 6 dollars. The food was awful. My husband had to stop eating his eggs benedict because they were sour, we was worried about food poisoning. I would not recommend this place to anyone unfortunately. It looked beautiful and we thought maybe it would be worth the wait. Unfortunately, that is not the case. My suggestion for them would be to establish some sort of system because they don't have one. They also only had three people working on a Sunday. The line was very long. Not worth 60 bucks I know you can find a much better place. Doesn't feel worth that kind of time and money. Management is non existent. Line upe in every direction. A total waste of money and time.

manal maroua BOUCENNA

The place in general is quite pleasant for an afternoon coffee time. The pastries (Lemon and strawberry tartelettes) were in general good HOWEVER the « signature » pastry a.k.a the Obama cookies were just AWFUL. It seemed like it was three days old and tasteless. JUST AVOID THEM. The coffee tasted like a Nespresso coffee (which it is): good but nothing exciting. A homemade coffee would have made a huge difference. Overall it was good but meh doesn’t worth the hype.

Andrew Leung

The pastries are really good. But in the summer there are a lot of wasps in the pastry cabinet. Not sure if they could do anything about that though because it is outdoors.

Kate Dinsmore

Lovely bread and all manner of baked delights

Tomahawk16

I live a little over a one hour drive from Ottawa and enjoy dropping by every time I make the trip. Not the most elegant setup in the seating area, but still a pleasant spot right in the heart of the bustling coziness of the Byward Market. On my last visit I stopped by with my mom for coffee and a sweet treat for her birthday (delicious almond croissant). Being the homemade espresso-loving Italian she is, she’s not easily impressed with coffees other than her own, but the look on her face after her first sip was priceless. I was happy she enjoyed hers as much as I enjoyed my cappuccino. Thank you LeMDP, and thank you to the super friendly staff. It made my mom’s afternoon!

JJ Rush

We are regulars there but we are finding that it is getting quite expensive. With the situation with COVID-19, we were disappointed that behind the counters, not everyone was wearing a mask and tables were not being sanitized after each use. The option could have been to provide a sanitation station to allow people to sanitize their table themselves.

Tony Karam

Excellent eclair and great selection of cakes and baked goods

Magda Salamanca

I just love this place. It is my to go every time I visit Ottawa

Kylw Smith

Had a turnover and cookie. Both were incredibly dry and tasted a day old. Would not go again. Much better bakery options in Ottawa than this tourist trap.

Jennifer Chan

Very yummy, I’ve been going back to this bakery every day since my stay. I tried their chocolate almond croissant and their salmon focaccia all very good. Lots of selection as well

S Patel (patelsr)

Already a landmark in Byward Market in Ottawa and made more famous by now ex President Obama when he was in Ottawa and walked in the area and picked up some cookies for his daughters. Now the cookies themselves are called Obama cookies and several pictures of the event adorn the walls and counters of this cafe. Picked up some cookies (yes, the Obama ones) because they look really pretty. A coffee for me and a Pougasse for our daughter as a breakfast item. Basically a large pretzel shaped bread made from pizza type dough, olives and cheese and yes, a lot oil (olive I hope). The coffee was good, more of a European or French brew, but good strong taste and not acidic we found. The bread we requested to be warmed up. The size was impossible to finish and daughter and Mrs had as a snack a few hours after. The bread was good; made with quality ingredients and nice flavour to it. A lot of oil to the liking and wish there was something to dip into like a marinara sauce or like. Lots of Olives and a fairly decent amount of cheese although not as visible.

Jacky Hou

Did not go in the store, but very nice for the picture of Obama :)

Antoune Blais

Very bad service , very expensive for the low quality they provide.

paul harrison

A must stop place when you visit downtown Ottawa.

Benjamin Renaud

Fun, busy atmosphere with great pastries. Almond croissants...croissants in general were fresh and well made. The place to go for morning brunch or coffee break.

Ali Envy

Best cookies ever ????????

Noura Alwani

We had their famous sugar cookies. They were so bad. Too sweet and can't taste anything but sugar.

Martin L

worst service ever. rushed, no service. probably the worst spot in the market.

Mad d'Arg

Awesome staff and food

Angela Mintz

I really enjoyed my ham and cheese sandwich and my Canada Cookies.

Richard York

That is some good Danish. Danish is flakey and good. So many selections that you cannot decide what you want to order. The peanut butter cookie is also delicious. That is a good cookie. Not too sugary and just enough peanut. I want to buy more next time.

Laura Delaney

Wasn't overwhelmed by the service or the food. Very busy and all items were served in styrofoam and plastic wrap which isn't the best choice for the planet. A good place for grab and go food if you're looking to explore the market but overall not worth the price.

Jessica Lau

Used to be good but the service has declined since reopening , not to mention overpriced and tiny sandwiches and watery coffee :( such a shame because it genuinely used to be good

Joseph G

Wanted coffee, got fantastic coffee & a pastry. Service was friendly & fast.

Stephan Pigeon

Changed from 4 star to two. I ordered breakfast (eggs and sausage) and specifically asked for toast. Get to work mo toast. Second time this happens. Also asked for eggs over easy. Cooked hard. Exactly 9 small potatoes included as home fries.

Edmund Park

Mold in the apple crumble...

Olivia M

This place never disappoints, their treats are amazing!

Sophie Shi

Cookies are so cute! Got two several years apart.

Danish Hussain

Great croissants, Nescafé coffee

Smita R

Oh I have never seen such a huge collection at one place its great with pastries just get one for me to when you visit...

Mr. & Mrs A

yummy pastries great pastries and love the ambiance

Kevin Christ

I asked a clerk to help me select a cake for someone I told them was severely allergic to nuts. They seemed helpful, looked at ingredient lists, and suggested a choice of 3 cakes. I bought one that was suggested. My partner got sick when he ate it, so I looked it up on your site. A main ingredient listed for that cake was almonds! This is a dangerous level of incompetence. If this is what goes on at your storefront in terms of health and safety, I shudder to think of what happens in your kitchen. Big price, totally incompetent staff! Your establishment could be sued for this.

the rantings of a madman lionofone

Saw a rat - but food was good lol

Herman Vanderlinden

Deception. Haven't been there for a couple of years and nothing taste the same. Soup was greasy and tasteless. Sandwich were dry and no Cajun taste in it. No butter, mustard or Mayo at all. Salads were also tasteless. We were so desappointed that we even didn't want to try the pastries.

Xi Lin

Famous, food so so, coffee mediocre.

Jeff Galindo

As always pastries were on point mmmm so good

Huge tourist money grab. Sugar cookies are good but not the best, especially for the price. There are better bakeries nearby . Also had the strawberry tart . Lack of glaze, and the pie shell itself was terrible. They used graham crumble (easy way out) and it was just not good ... Honestly Tim Hortons had better tarts (for those who remember those days ;)

Angela Kuester

What is not to like about well made dessert? They definitely do not skimp on quality ingredients!

Guilherme Oliveira

High prices for bad quality. The croissants with chocolate have almost no chocolate, and the hot chocolate has no chocolate taste at all. We payed 37 dollars for 4 hot chocolates and 3 croissants... Unreal

Zavoianuandi Qwerty

The food is decent but the service is awful. The guy at the front counter kept speaking to my husband in french when he made it clear he only speaks english. Not only that, but, everytime we go there we feel as though the workers are less than friendly.

Carmen Larsen

Location makes it for quality but still too expensive. Having the "Obama cookies" makes it a mandatory stop for any tourist and then when you see all the food...you just end up staying even just for coffee. The service is very good BUT they have soooo many options that I guess they cannot really focus on quality. The food ends up being pretty plain and too expensive.

Rangarajan B V

Great salad and soup options for vegetarians the gentleman serving behind the counter was super friendly. Desserts were good too.

P A

This is my go to place for pastries in the market. Their croissants are really good and flakey. I particularly enjoy the almond croissant. I also like their Danishes a lot. Everything I've had here has been good, though. Their coffee is good too. Friendly staff. It's a nice place to sit and have a pastry and a coffee and people watch, especially in the summer.

Dennis Williams

Excellent customer service at here! Thank you for the amazing support!

Blaine Mainville

Great place , foods amazing. Different soup and hot food daily plus breakfest on weekends. Amazing display and great costumer service.

Shawn Hsiung

Nice bakery, had an Obama cookie, just for the hype. Nothing special about the cookie itself tho

Penelope Bloom

We had a horrible experience this past weekend here. Our cream puffs were filled with green mould, when we went to the counter to complain about it the server would only do an exchange. I don’t want to eat from a place that allows items to spoil and serve them to customers. We asked for the manager, when we explained the issue to him he also refused to refund us. He then went on to complain about us in French to the servers. I’m not fluent but I understood enough. No refund and no exchange. This is a tourist trap, your not getting real pastries.

Stephane Comeau

Delicious cakes and friendly staff!

Moon Boy

Disorganized.

Youssef charif

I Went there for a morning breakfast, ordered a hot chocolate once I opened the cup found a Cockroach . ( As you can see on the pictures) Went to inform the person ( I would describe him as arrogant ) at the cashier, he tried to hide and he was trying to convince me that its only the chocolate. Would definitely not go back to this dirty place. The reason behind one star is just I can’t give 0 star, but they deserve a 0 start for the food & beverage and service quality as well.

Marcela MA

Best almond croissant and pumpkin pie I've ever had.

C N

I was disappointed in this place. It was very crowded, and the food was average.

K Hassan

When you walk by and the place is packed, you have to walk in. Not disappointed !! The pastries we fresh and rich in taste. People were very nice and courteous even though they were going crazy with all the rush. A nice patio to enjoy the weather and breakfast.

r b

The meat pie was really dry and flavourless, not worth it. Cashier was rude, mocking a customer who placed an order when they turned around. To reply: Hi, this was last Fall when we came down for a trip to Ottawa. I didn't start writing reviews until recently and remembered that bad experience.

Xiaorui Su

awesome❤️

SB

The food here was OK but the staff requires some customer service training. Very rude and incompetent of giving correct change. When checking out a coffee, quiche and sandwich (which were already overpriced) the gentlemen behind the counter assumed I did not want my $1.50 in change and closed the till. After some prompting, he proceeds to give me 60 cents back. After prompting a 2nd time he says, "It's OK, It's OK, you eat" I reluctantly gave up and walked away with food in hand. Will not be going back.

Stefan Wayand

The place is typically overcrowded and definitely over hyped. The cookies are often days, sometimes weeks old (Yes, that includes the ones Obama tried). A lot of the pastries are mediocre and the sandwiches are unimaginative. The coffee and market atmosphere are nice, but it's just not enough to make the place a "must see" place in Ottawa.

Paul Benish

First of all, it’s quite confusing where to go when you walk in. I believe there is a sign that says exit. On my visit, I was not the only one who found this confusing. I had come in without a face covering as I have an exemption. I asked if they had cakes and was told they were on the other side. This male employee was ready and willing to serve me, when all of a sudden I get yelled at by a female and male staff. I informed them of my exemption and they said they were not going to serve me. This surprised me as I have been to your Metcalfe location many times recently and was always treated with much respect. Is this how your staff has been trained to handle this situation? What is your store policy. Does it follow the bylaw? I would rather not file a human rights complaint over this

Hazel Moon

I come here to treat myself every few weeks. I love the custard millefeuilles and carrot cake, but I have never been disappointed with anything else. I love the taste of the cookies but wish they were a little less crumbly - need more moisture.

Siobhan Morgulis

Really good pastries

Semir Omar

I went to buy pastries today but was disgusted to see flies such as wasps and bees all over the pastries and left without purchasing. Has this place changed ownership...cleanliness should be priority during this pandemic. Have a training on how to kill flies. Let new manager be installed

Claude Bedard

Great food, pastries and bread. Good cappuccino.

Juliana Farmer

Best scones I had ever had, light, citrusy and the perfect amount of sweetness. The croissants were pretty good too

Maria Pecorella

Really enjoy the ambiance and the great service. The pastries and coffee are especially delicious!

Margit Simon

Awesome selection of sweets, sandwiches, fresh breads, cold and hot food

Alice Di Nardo

Cookies are beautiful and delicious

Marc Bedard

Thank you very much Alice for your amazing service yesterday Needless to say I was blown away by the focus and commitment to us. The cookies packages were lovely, our pastries delicious thank you again for taking your time to do this for us!

Maeve Hazel

Adorable cookies!

3li

Meh bakery but great location and beautiful seating area

Daniel DC

The fresh pastries were great!

Tina Edwards

Just eat the pastries. Croissants are awful, rubbery, stale tasting. Breakfast is over cooked and wrapped in plastic. Not a typical French cafe!

Ella Singh

Ive ordered chocholate pistchio cake and there was no pistachio there at all, the cake was breaking apart and was too sweet , they also put cheap choch icing as a decoration .I was impressed by the good reviews the place got but from now on will continue buying cakes only on QC side

Michelle Lee

A large variety of pastries and buns. They also offer Nespresso coffees. The latte and cappuccino was nice and light, but some could say it’s also light in terms of the taste. Maybe that’s how Nespresso is supposed to taste like? ????‍♀️ The pastries were dry and not much of flavour. The center of the inside of the Cannoli looking dessert was empty, where the front and back is filled with whipped cream.

Rachel Flandé

Great bread, cakes and service

Linda Zhang

The lady who served me was friendly. Had the vanilla blueberry flan, would have been better if it was served warm. I decided to try more from their deli. Ordered the beef panini and asked to have it heated, and lined up to pay. When I got to the cashier, the person seemed like he was the owner and pointed to the tray next to him and asked if it was mine, I said no and he turned to the lady behind me and started talking to her. Then he started serving the next customer behind me who also had something being heated up. I was very confused at this point and showed that I was annoyed. He finished charging that customer before turning back to me. I was very annoyed at this point, I don't understand why he made me wait. He did not seem apologetic at all. The food was very mediocre. Will not visit again.

Gerald Warren

Good customer service. Very good food. Delicious desserts. A little pricey.

Mirror It Staffing Agency

Walked by here all the time and never got anything. Biggest regret. They are sooo good. The macaroons are $2 each and so worth it the flavours are perfect. They are so friendly! There are so many options for dessert so excited to go back!

Jessica Lynn

Best Danish I have ever eaten! It was topped with fresh fruit.

Mike Vanier

Great pastries and very good coffee!

Jean-Pierre Marchand

Very very bad service and they are the most expensive in the Byward Market .

Colette Sewell

A little too expensive for the average person.

Lynn Forget

Not much considering we are in a lockdown

Vicki L

A big selection of cookies and pastries. Should try out the Obama cookies

Peter Labonte

A small, cold, tiny pizza ????, and a small coffee ☕ cost almost twelve dollars which is okay if you're very hungry and have way too much money ????.

a human

If you go here, PLEASE please try their crab salad panini. So delicious!! Affordable, and fresh crab meat. Their black forrest Danish was also really good and the flavors blend together beautifully.

mj s

Amazing desserts, I will definitely come back! But I don't know why there were so many wasps

sandra b

Always come here when I'm in Byward. Everything that I've ever tried here is delicious. Good service and many options. The hot chocolate is amazing, highly recommend. I don't know anyone who doesn't like this place. A must see in Ottawa

Robert Chretien

Good sandwiches for a quick bite.

JF

Quality has Slipped, even as the price has gone up. Le Moulin has been the best find for pastries, like those in France. Judging from my most recent hazelnut and dense chocolate Symphony, there is more sugar, but less dairy and nuts. The result is something that looks better than it tastes. I can get that kind of sweet at Loblaws. Put the ingredients back and make the splurge worth the trip.

Harry Fischer

Superb Christmas cookies.. all I have left is a few crumbs! I got some in my Byward Market Christmas box and they were delicious. I will be back for more

Simon Fransson

Pastries and coffee was delicious however, staff was very rude and cold... first visit to ottowa and definitely felt very unwelcome. First and last visit. Thank you, Next!

John Ren

Food quality below average, had latte and chocolate/almond croissant, latte had no bubbles to speak of, and the croissant was dense and not flaky at all. The wife had a salad and sea food soup. Salad has not flavour beyond vinegar, soup has no flavour other than salt. A bad experience.

Kelly MacKenzie

A Byward Market favourite of mine whenever I'm in Ottawa. Great breads, Obama Cookies, pastries, good coffee and croissants, sandwiches, and prepared foods to eat in or take out. Delicious. The line ups can be long and slow but worth the wait. I go early. Staff are a bit harried but friendly enough.

Alexey Podlesnyy

Great selection of breads and cakes. We go there every time we are in Ottawa and we are always satisfied. Cakes are delicious, bread is always fresh and flavorful. Would recommend to everyone.

sara flynn

All looks nice but was very disappointing. Tarts soggy no taste. Bread pudding stale. On the plus side the coffee was fresh and staff friendly.

Raheal Qureshi

Love their selection of treats. The almond croissant is really good.

Bailey Bolton

I haven't eaten there just walk by it

Markus

Delicious pastries, mediocre service

Yves

There is simply nothing to complain about this place all products are delicious with quality ingredients staff is very helpful with service with a smile I recommend this place to anyone visiting the byward market it's a must !

Tony K

Terrible breakfast experience. Went early in the morning and croissants were from day before!!! Expected freshly baked. Potatoes in breakfast meal were reheated. Scrambled eggs were cold and crumbly. Eggs benedict was delicious though. A small cup of chocolate milk (poured from jug) was $4.05!!! Would NOT return.

2313745 Ontario Inc.

Food poisoned! I ordered their continental breakfast with croissant, eggs, sausage, bacon and home fries. The bacon tasted like it was made and stored a couple of days ago, the home fries were ok but was kind of stale. The sausage was good taste wise. The biggest issue was with the eggs that tasted like they were made from powdered cardboard water and egg flavouring. I took one bite and it was so bad o removed the egg from my sandwich and ate the meal sans “egg”. One hour later while at the spa (the reason we came to Ottawa ) I started to feel sick. I had diarrhea, vomited twice, headache and muscle ache, a fever of over 40. Totally ruined my trip to Ottawa. Spent the rest of my day in my hotel room sweating and sleeping to try to get this food poisoning under control. I am writing this the next morning. Thankfully I am feeling better. But I was very scared. I understand they run a large bakery. But they should not be serving people what we ate yesterday. Avoid their breakfast by all means. Don’t eat the eggs.

Ian Livermore

Fantastic pastries and cookies. President Obama shops there.

Lorelai M

This place, is incredible. Best tarts and macarons I've had.

Gina Hayes

$10 egg and tomato croissant was barely edible....and my husband's quiche was soggy and flavorless. Service was terrible ???? ????

Brian McLeod

This whole Byward experience was great, lots of shops and good places to eat

Jeremy Cacho-Lim

This place actually has one of the best vegetable biriyani I've had.

Gabriel Haddad

Terrible, high prices and low quality. Croissant of chocolat doesnt have chocolate, the hot chocolate doesnt have chocolate, just sweet milk.

Fito H

I have not eaten here but passed through to get to the market beyond. the Place has plenty of seating though given the number of people that visit, it might be a challenge to find a place. It is easier to find a seat if you come in the morning, as loads of people will be visiting in the afternoon. It is not the quietest of places to have lunch but the crowds of people do add an endearing sense of hospitality. The sweets are probably the highlight of this place for me, though their price tag is not, but this is a touristic area and this sort of price tag is to be expected. The do offer pies, deli, cold cuts, sandwiches and sweets.

May Shaban

Really expensive, but high quality & delicious pastries. I just wish they would do a better job of keeping flies out of their display cases for non-refrigerated baked goods like breads and croissants.

Raiza Hurtado

Please do not come here very hungry, because you will end up having everything! They offer a great variety of pastries, sandwiches, and even lunch and dinner dishes. Due to COVID-19, time and weather issues, my family and I were not able to sit and enjoy some food there, but I took home some pastries and cookies, and they were excellent (including the Obama cookies. What, you think we were not going to buy those ones and take a pic too? Of course we did!) And for those who are here complaining for a 30 ¢ increase in your coffee, stop whimpering and be considerate with those who are struggling to feed their families and keep afloat these days.

Jeremy Gaulin

Price gouge. I would not get any of the baked goods here, they all taste worse than the ones at loblaws and cost twice as much. The sheppard's pie is pretty good but aside from that, everything here is terrible. Far better places for baked goods in the market.

Lalla Naima Karim Drissi

Now you can have coffee inside the store..very safe . ????????

Nathaniel Bruni

Been here a few times and always have positive experiences. Bilingual friendly place. Very reasonably priced and good quality food. Lots of sitting room.

Jaquie Airhart

I paid way too much for such small portions of soggy and very undercooked breakfast. I am never coming back here. Beware. I would give none if possible.

Lianne E. Chang

So many stores. We were there out of season so not too many people. Lots of food stores. Flowers were bright. Clothes shops too. Enough variety to keep you interested.
