Live Life

Wearhouse type order at counter. Good tasty fresh breakfast and bakery. A bit hot inside without AC. Great place to grab a healthy bite.

Tucked away in an industrial jungle, this restaurant/cafe was lively and welcoming - and left us speechless. We visited this place with a close friend who is local to the area and raved about it. He was not wrong. The service was smooth and snappy with friendly faces all the way. The food was scrumptious, the featured photos include a latte, a cronut with a chocolate filling and their famous croque madame and croque monsieur, one with cauliflower soup and one with garlic frites. We highly recommend eating here and we will be sure to visit when we are back in the area.

[EDIT 2] Removing 2 stars (3 in total). Went back again to give it another go. The croissant was not fresh and the buns tasted stale. It's getting worse each time I revisit. [EDIT 1] I removed 1 star because the quality seems to have gone down. The pastry didn't taste fresh both the croissant and pecan bun. Arrived at 10:30am on a Saturday and the line was to the door. But the flow was pretty constant. They also had an express line if you were only ordering pastry or bread so that was convenient. Somewhat of an expensive place - Sandwiches average around $13 no side but they are good. Parking is free for the first 90 minutes. Service isn't as quick and we waited for the food for a while but they're very nice.

I have always loved this place for their bread but just discovered their pizza and it is fire!!! Also a MUST are the chicken wings (side sauce was totally unnecessary as they are INSANELY DELISH just as they are).

James Purchase

Great spot for a artisan sandwich, burger or salad. The almond croissant ???? are amazing! The double burger absolutely blew me away! It was perfectly dressed and wrapped, really a treat I could have everyday. Also the staff are very attentive, courteous and friendly.

Worse experience ever. I paid 20 bucks for an egg and avocado sandwich combo that arrived super cold. I told the lady to put the onions with mascarpone on the side - she instead just omitted them completely. We waited 30+ minutes for our food. And during this whole time we were being attacked by wasps. Never going there again.

Alexandra

Only 4 because I have only tried 2 products: pain au chocolat and crownout and I love it! Super recommended. The texture and consistency is great and the butter amount of the pain au chocolat is on point

After our first visit I can see why Guy Fieri was raving about the pizza at Art-Is-In Bakery. First of all the sourdough crust is super thin but still has a good chew and holds up well with all the toppings. They also sprinkled sesame seeds along the outer edge which gives it a nice contrast in texture as well as a lovely, nutty flavour. They also have some unique toppings combinations and allow you to go half and half on large pizzas. This pizza in the photo is half Hipster Pepperoni (slow roasted garlic tomato sauce, whole milk mozzarella, hipster pepperoni, basil, sesame crust) and half Lost in Wakefield (Slow roasted garlic tomato sauce, house made maple fennel sausage, caramelized onions, cremini mushrooms, whole milk mozzarella, basil, sesame crust. I'm typing this and I'm drooling! If you're in Ottawa this place is a must visit.

God’s gift to Ottawa is Art is in Bakery. It’s transcendent. The flavors, the food. All outstanding. Top that with amazing friendly service and you have a place that everyone wants to go. Yes, this place is busy on the weekends and rightfully so. People go and wait because that is how good the food here is at Art Is In. Mind you, the wait time is not that long. The recently opened in the evening Pizza night running Monday to Friday and have just changed the pizza scene. The pizza is so different from other pizza places. Who’s would think to put pasta on a pizza. Who? It’s crazy right. Or brilliant. I go with brilliant. I love Art Is In Bakery and always bring family and friends here. And all they say is they can’t wait to come back for more Food 5 Service 5 Atmosphere 5 Overall experience 5 This restaurant is what all bakeries mont to be. You need to go here. It will change your brunch and pizza way of thinking

Great cafe and bakery with wide selection of sweet and savoury baked treats. Very friendly service staff that was quick but not pushy taking orders on a busy morning. We really enjoyed their bacon and egg sandwich on a croissant, spicy tomato dipping sauce added a nice kick. Their O town croissant donut are big enough to share, crispy on the outside with soft flakey layers, they have a variety of filling depending on the day. Their London fog drink was on of best I've ever had, very creamy.

Heart Of the Village Inn

We are very flexible when it comes to breakfast choices while traveling but had to pass on several extremely basic spots in Mechanicsville, Hintonburg and Little Italy. Art-Is-In was exactly what we were looking for. This is a vibrant relaxed modern bakery and café with delicious creative dish options. Loved our espresso coffee drinks, a breakfast burger and gravlax. Super friendly and helpful staff, extremely quick service. If you are an easy going respectful adult, this place is for you. Highly recommended!

The burgers have exquisite mouth feel. The bread is always fresh and the staff are very friendly.

If you haven't been here for pizza nights, you should. Their breads are amazing and translating it to a sourdough crust is so well done. We went for Valentine's Day and had a ceaser salad for 2, a half and half pizza. One have wild mushy love (wild mushrooms, truffle, garlic goodness) and Green Summer. Dessert pizza and drinks.

Tim Bayne

Pricey, smaller portions but delicious and worth what you pay. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with fries. It was the best fried chicken sandwich I've ever tasted. Would have liked a few more fries.

Rahman Ahmad

This is one of the best places in Ottawa hands down. I've been coming here for well over a decade and it remains consistently excellent. Try the pastries, or sandwiches, or anything - you really can't go wrong!

Qiot Riot

Nice baked goods. Pricey and always packed every time we visit. Brunch on Sundays is not bad if you get here early. Tables are uneven and threatening to topple, makes for a less than comfortable dining experience.

Elliott Godin

As you know, Artisin reveives a lot of hype. Some of it is warranted, some of it most definitely is not. The staff have always been pleasant, and it is a nice place to hang out, especially on a summer day. The pizza is good. The sesame crust is a nice addition, and the toppings are usually generous. The pricing can be quite high for what you get. Lunch/Dinner items like the Korean burger and chicken burger are great. Really fun combinations of ingredients, and reasonably priced. This is what they do best, making unique dishes like the pickle melt sandwich. Unfortunately, the breads and pastries have gone downhill. The jalapeno dynamite bread is far from what it used to be, and perhaps I'm in the minority of folks who believe this - but the o towner is only ok. This is also true of the breakfast, which is absurdly priced for such small, mediocre items.

Aom Hildebrand

My favorite bakery shop in Ottawa! Love their chocolate croissant, the best! Krazy kronut Thursday that you shouldn’t miss to check it out. Their ice cream when summer time that you could die for. Support local, always fresh and high quality ingredients. Great service! So far I loved everything I tried, never disappointed me! Even sometimes crowded but worth the wait!

Yanika

Great service, ambiance and food!! I'll be back for sure!

Jen Balon

I enjoyed my meal. I chose eggs Benedict because I felt like I got a little of everything in the brunch world. Eggs, potato, fresh fruit and greens. I do feel it is a place to go when you don't mind waiting, and you don't mind the constant din of others around you. It's a smaller place, so you are very aware of how close you are eating next to others. It's also quite pricey, so a treat, not a regular every weekend brunch place. Food is delicious! Make sure you know what you want before you go and order your baked good to take home at the same time. Lines are long! It is more strikingly bakery with a side of breakfast/ brunch food, so you won't have a ton of options but the options are done well. Always leave with a cronut ;)

Adi Smadi

Great for breakfast, but packed and a bit expensive. ******** Modified Dec. 2021: second time there after 2 years of the first time. My experience was not pleasant. Very Small portion and overpriced. The food came in in a box and a plastic fork was provid , I was frustrated and tired trying to eat my food. It was difficult to manage eating it by plastic fork and knife. I also ordered fresh orange Juice, it came in a toddler size!!! It cost around $5. I am giving them 2 starts in stead of 5 just because the food itself was delicious.

Matt Crooker

If u are a hipster u will love it. Not my type of food, but it is FRESH AND DONE WELL

Adam Chubbs-Payne

One of my all time favourite restaurants in Ottawa. Recently tried the hot honey burger and it is AMAZING - highly, highly recommend. As always the service was great, an absolute must.

Jacob Campbell

Makes some of the best bread in the country. Started off in old Ottawa south as just a bread place, making the best baguette out there ( they call it dynamite). There cheddar jalepeno bread is stellar - as is pretty much all their bread... They also have a cafe that could use a better coffee bean, and brunch options that are all fairly good. Would highly highly recommend going here.

Ramona Michaels

I came in with a $50 gift card I purchased in 2019 and was told they could no longer accept it. I saw someone else bring this issue up and was told it has been three years by the owner but this isn't true in my case, it's only been 2. This is a direct violation of The Consumer Protection Act and simply outrageous. I don't see how a system can become so out of date in the course of 2 years that your only option is to essentially rob your patrons and it seems inappropriate to be demanding solutions from disgruntled customers who are out the money on how to not scam them in the future. After this I try to pay for my order in cash, they won't accept my cash either. I considered for a moment if I was being pranked and if I took out my credit card they wouldn't accept that either! I left empty-handed and I won't be returning.

Kyle Deslauriers

I'll keep this review short. They have great pizza. I know that they're a "Bakery", but damn is their pizza good. I recommend sticking with the classic tomato/garlic sauce on the pizza. This is as close as you can get to a New York style pizza in Ottawa.

Erin Du

Favourite bakery ever!! Love this place for all kinds of bread and baked goods. Missing the dine in experience due to Covid but the take outs are good too!

Sam Wong

this is always my first spot to hit when i come to ottawa. theres no other place that makes the beggining of our trip better than this place. it never disapoints. just had their thai chicken sandwich with a croque monsieur and clam chowder. wow. what a delight. dont take my word for it. you have to try it yourself. wished they opened one in montreal! ill open their franchise please!

Bonnie Alberry

Great atmosphere, amazing food. The bakery is so tempting, and everything looks delicious. They were very busy and efficient. We immediately recommended this place to everyone we knew in the area.

SUPERBEIGE

One of the few places I'd call a must-visit in Ottawa. Pastries are amazing- O-towners and chocolate almond croissant both exceeded my expectations. We also tried several of the sandwiches (favourite, surprisingly, was the super crispy pickle sandwich) and the chowder. Everything was top notch! My only complaints would be that there was a significant wait when we went (25+ min) and they still don't have in-door dining back, despite that it's getting seriously cold again. I really want to come back through the winter, but may have to wait until spring if they keep this up...

Melanie Bougie

This is the best bread in ottawa! No joke! All their food is absolutely delicious ????

Monica Daigneault

Saw the restaurant on both You've got to eat here and Diners Drive in and Dives and have been dying to go, well as I was in the local area we went. Sadly by the time we got there most of the bread was gone I didn't leave empty handed and purchased the sour dough Kalmata Olive bread. The bread was crusty with a soft flavorful inside an absolute delight! To go in person go early otherwise ordering online is another option, either way you will not be disappointed!!

lucile cogez

Best pizza in town!! Great combinations of flavours, good crust and awesome service. We tried the Hawaiian pizza, a little too spicy for our taste and the weekend pizza, this one was the best, tasty sausage, green sauce and runny eggs. The Small is closer to a medium and the large would be more of an extra large in other traditional pizza place. They also have a nice selection of craft beer and wine. Can’t wait to go back!

Maher Jebara

Staff were super friendly and kept returning to our table to ask if we needed anything. The vegan pizza was top notch on its own. The other pizzas were great and crunchy. The spaghetti was not the best but I enjoyed the rest. Atmosphere is super chill and very welcoming. Perfect spot to spend the night with a small group of friends.

Christa Seeley

The pickle melt is one of my all time favourite sandwiches. And you can't go wrong with the O-Towner for dessert (but make sure you go early because they do run out)

T C

Best Latte! Best French Toast! Please keep running! ????????❤

Jennifer Kazimer

Absolutely loved this place. From a friendly greeting to the best pizza I've had. We ate one of the pizza so fast couldn't even snap a full pic. The wings were nice size and were authentic Thai flavours.

Christine Chaplin

Went in today and bought a bunch of things including a coffee, baked goods, frozen meal and a slice of pizza for take out. They gave me each item in a big except the slide of pizza which was on a plate. No offer for a bag or anything. Well of course the minute I left with my obviously tumbling tower the pizza slid off its precarious perch. Went back in and asked to throw it out and purchase a new slice. I was surprised that they charged me for it and the girl laughed at me. Most places would simply eat that small loss, especially after spending $50, and them not giving me an easy way of transporting. Poor customer service, but good food.

Drew Goodwin

Very tasty and hand made food. All from scratch and put together very well.

Claude Thivierge

did pick up.....food was over the top.....wow... definitely thumbs up and a must....had the chicken burger and the deep fried pickle sandy....lace up ur boots for the amount of flavor ur pallet will taste....kapowww

Mark Da Costa

I LOVE this place! Always great fresh breads, and delicious and creative meals. I especially loved the take-away meals (pizzas, pastas, and desserts) that they provided during the pandemic. I've loved this place for years, it's a must try!

Tonya Guindon

I dive into the food to quickly to take any pics of how delicious the food always looks! You will Not regret anything you eat from here! (I'm drooling as I'm writing this!)

Rutger Gelling

Crispy Pickle Melt. Best sandwich ever! Friendly staff, great selection of food and drinks. Highly recommended.

Avril Britten

ham and cheese sandwich good, could use less arugula (was overpowering) ‘clam’ chowder was filled with bacon and carrots - odd choices - why fix what isn’t broken? both items were takeout and both were so overly salty, I was parched an hour later

Samir Farah

Had the Hot Honey Chiken burger everything from presentation to flavour to texture & tenderness was on point hands down best burger I’ve eaten in Canada! I took a day to think about it & it’s easily 10/10 Even ketchup is made in-house & it goes so perfectly with the fried & all the flavours of the burger sheeesh coming back here for sure Aint nothing better than a clean haircut & some fresh burgers

Marie-France Brunet

Very tasty food! Chose to sit indoors and got a bit chilly with the door opening frequently but thoroughly enjoyed the food. Staff were friendly.

Daniel Derkatch

A friend of mine, who previously worked at Art-is-in said it best: they make high quality food because it is their passion, not to make money. I think this is easily the best bread you will find in Ottawa! The quality of food is at the same level as the boulangeries I have been to in France. Their pizza is also incredible. Everything tastes fresh and all of their toppings are incredible. Far less heavy than other pizza. Adding to this, they also have fantastic customer service.

Lisa

A must visit everytime I'm in Ottawa. Friendly service. Well maintained lines and ample outdoor sitting area during these times.

Paul Pineo

Great spot. Food is amazing. Would highly recommend. Becoming my new go to spor st that end of town. Pizza is great and nothing else I have ordered has let me down.

Steffani Cameron

Had a breakfast sandwich, which is expensive but really good. I behaved badly and had a cinnamon roll right after. The prices are high but the quality is great, and everything is long-raised with quality ingredients. The service is friendly and kind and solid. The Americano is strong and one of the best I’ve had in a while. Also really looking forward to the ham sandwich I’ll make with their bread tonight. :)

Tara Davis

Probably one of the better bakeries I’ve been to in Ottawa. The cakes are very stylish and best of all - very yummy!

Taranjit Singh

I had ordered sandwiches 3 times from Art Is In Bakery. My experience the first time was great. The sandwiches were fresh and warm and the fries were fresh. The second time I ordered the sandwiches the fries were a little dry and the sandwich was not as good due to insufficient sauces. I had thought due to it being the weekend maybe there was another chef that made the sandwiches so I decided to go on a weekday. This time I was greatly disappointed. The sandwich was cold and stale. The fries were stale cold and the ketchup, other sauces were missing. It was a horrible experience. My friends and I will not be eating there again.

Christy Cheung

Great local bakery serving a variety of take-home loaves, desserts and pastries, coffee, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, and even sourdough pizza on Thursday’s through the weekend. Of course, I tried their famous cronuts (croissant doughnuts), called O-Towners, which I hear typically sell out early in the day! Their flavours for the day were a vanilla caramel and a pear cranberry, the second of which was my favourite. The subtle, yet aromatic fruity flavours turned out really well against the pastry. I would suggest enjoying the O-Towners fresh, as they tend to get a bit soggier towards the end of the day, especially if they are cream-based/filled. All in all, I would definitely recommend getting them to try, and maybe some of their other pastry options or savoury dishes as well.

Gunjan Pandey

Tried the sourdough bread ???? along with the dynamite. THEY ARE BOTH AWESOME. Just what I was looking for! The good thing is that they have while wheat sourdough as well!

Taiheng Jin

Will never come back again. People are over hyped about this place. Food and bakery are average level and it’s just too much sugar. Overpriced for everything

Joyce Chamas

The place has a certain atmosphere about it that's nice. The pizza is absolutely delicious and so was the salad that we ordered. It's too bad that most of the meat items are pork. It's would be nice to have more options. It was busy and super slow. I don't imagine that it would have been any faster if it wasn't busy. Absolutely worth going to and enjoying the pizza but don't go when you're super hungry. There's free parking outside which makes it nice and easy to pick up food as well.

Zack Babins

Solid meal here - avocado toast was nice and the croque madame was incredibly rich. Definitely pop a lactaid or 6 before coming. The fries were not lacking in the salt department, that’s for sure but no worries about that on my end. The staff were friendly and happy to change out a coffee for an iced. Nice patio too. Will come back for some of the pastries tho, didn’t get a chance to have one.

Chris Adams

Really nice vibe at night.

Madison Kelly

Best chocolate croissant in ottawa! Super buttery and supple but perfectly flakey. They also freeze really well so do yourself a favour and get the whole box. You won’t regret it!

Mélanie B.

Everytime we come here and no matter how much I eat I am always so hungry because everything looks so amazing it tricks my brain! This is most certainly in my top 3 MUST DO in ottawa! Absolutely delicious creative beautiful food! The pickle melt is to die for and you must try the pizza tarte flambe!!!

Morgan Piczak

The patio is super nice, well spaced out! Some music would be nice though.

Chantal Baker

I love all that is croissant!! The array of choice is amazing !! The food is very good!! Fresh baked in the early morning as we sleep. Worth the drive!!

Suzy Carby

Five stars! Great food and cheerful service. I ordered a squash sandwich, I couldn't imagine what it would look like but I was soooo pleasantly surprised. And...it was very delicious and sizeable. I was stuffed at halfway but couldn't carry it on my bicycle and wasn't about to throw it away so I ate it all. Yum, yum, yum. The pastries are also quite tasty, do indulge cause it's worth it.

Steve Rogers

Their products are quality, which would normally make up for their slow pace. However, there are many horror stories floating around about how their staff are treated. I would prefer to support bakeries who are better to their people.

Melissa H

Pricey, but ohhh so tasty! Worth noting for first timers: During patio season you go into the building to order and pay. They will give you a number to take to a table of your choice outside and a server will bring you your food.

Ram EF

Best bakery in Ottawa hands down, the chocolate almond croissant is something else! Their sourdough is unreal and their brunches too - a must try spot

Alex Howie

One of the best pizzas in town! Havent been disappointed in anything I've ever had there!

Taz Asadi

My friend and I tried their hot honey fried chicken sandwich. While the team was very friendly and nice, the sandwich came kinda cold and fries were unedible.

Jeremy Kwan

The croissants are still delicious. And the O - towner looks overly sweet, but it was amazingly light and well balance. It also was made with an explosion of summer fruity filling flavour.

Zach “z_oskar”

I think I just found the best fried chicken sandwich in the city. Hands down. Crispy, flavourful, balanced. The Hot n Honey fried chicken needs to stay on the menu. Just look at it and you'll start drooling.

Eliza De Melo

I really enjoy this place, they have good food, especially the croque-madame! it is the best that I ever tasted!!

Norman C

I have been to Art-Is-In Bakery numerous times over the years. They make fantastic breads and delicious pastries. Breakfast/brunch/lunch items and sourdough pizza always satisfies and never disappoints. Owner and chef Kevin Mathieson is always perfecting his craft. A true gem in Ottawa.

Kenny Fung

Had the Croque Monsieur and Croque Madam, with a chowder/salad. Absolutely delicious. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

Andrew Barcellos

Fantastic baked goods, pastries and bread, as well as delicious meals and a coffee bar. One of my favourite breakfast sandwiches (with their house-made ketchup), and their quiches and macaroni-and-cheese are also yummy. Will definitely have to try the pizzas they recently added to their offerings!

Zee Man

Order the vegan pizza , it was good the price is a bit on the hight side . The burger was good the fries not that much . They have a nice patio . The 3 stars is for the 30 min we had to wait to get our food .
