The cafe is entirely vegan. There's limited seating so we got lucky on our first visit squeezing ourselves in. The pancakes n' fried chickun with spicy maple syrup followed by the daily donut sent me into a sugar bliss palace that brought me the closest I've ever been to God. That big mac crafty mac I saw is gonna get it next weekend.

I was excited to try this cafe because of a good write up in EAT magazine. I tried the plant burger with a side of hash browns. The food is served on plain white plates with no garnish or decoration. The portions are small for the price, and while the food is pretty good it isn't anything I'd rave about. The cafe itself is pretty chilly and a bit lacking in the decor department. Maybe ok for coffee and a treat, but I would not recommend as a place to grab lunch.

I love grabbing my morning coffees here while I’m out walking my dog. I love the outdoor pickup window, because I can grab my coffee without needing to tie my dog up outside. The food and coffee are great, only took a star off as I’ve always found the baked goods to be on the dry side.

Also cinnamon buns. And jersey rolls. Oh! And the donuts. Just give them all your money you will be happy about that decision I promise.

They do not have wifi here, which was super surprising as it is a cafe. When I asked about it I was told that they were "pretty strict on keeping it a restaurant," but if I have to wait 10 minutes for my food, some internet would be nice. The chicken burger is pretty good. It comes with a very mild sauce which provides good flavor. The chickun itself is textually good, but I think they need to work on seasoning. It's very mild and I know there's something there, but I can't say I enjoyed the flavor or lack thereof. I read comments saying their burgers didn't come with enough chickun but mine was overflowing to the point it fell out of the bun. So no problems there! The price for the burger seems pretty fair as well. The lemonade was disappointing, $3 for a very small cup. I wouldn't recommend it. Definitely not worth it. It made my gut hurt right after drinking it which typically only over-sugared, low quality lemonade's do. I give two stars as the staff were very friendly, but the food was just ok. Nothing made me want to come back unfortunately. I was really excited because a friend recommended the fern but I am a bit disappointed. And no internet? Really? I have to say that's a first for me at a cafe. Gave me the impression that they really just want you to get your food and leave asap.

This place can be described in one word: home. Being vegan, and being far away from my hometown had me feeling deprived of 'home cooked meals' until I met Fern. If you're vegan, or just looking for comfort food, know that you will find it here. Because not only is the delicious food made with love and offered in the categories of typical home cooked comfort foods (mac and cheeze, cinnamon buns, ...) but the owners have further created a space that emanates a sense of arriving at home. They offer exceptional customer service, they have been establishing meaningful relationships with customers, and also continuously support other local businesses. 5 stars that they really, truly deserve, keep up the good work guys <3

Fern Cafe has got to be one of the hippest, yummiest and most friendly places to grab a bite in Victoria. Their mac ‘n cheese is even better than Meet on Main in Vancouver. They just got a parking space patio as well! Extremely friendly staff, delicious pastries (try their seasonal goodies & donuts), full coffee menu, and servings that are actual meals. At first you may think hmm it’s a small place not as fancy as other places but don’t be fooled the food is just too good to pass up! I say compromise on the size of restaurant and seating so you can try their food! Or you can always get it to go! Their “tofu deep fried chicken” is unreal!

Delicious vegan cafe with breakfast foods, burgers, donuts, and a bunch of other things! There is some parking around the corner for customers and a loading zone as well you can pop into quickly. You don’t go inside it is more just a store front right now. At the end of the day for the last half hour they agave a buy one get one deal for the donuts as they would likely otherwise have to throw them out. The western scramble was pretty good, I wish the veggies were a bit more finely chopped but the flavor was nice.

My husband & I went to Fern Cafe & Bakery the first day they opened I believe. We were SO excited. I remember I got the Krafty Mac & my husband got the plant burger.. We also dropped $50 on treats because I couldn’t resist. We were so please with our first visit we have been continuous customers & bring our friends when they come & visit from Alberta or up island! It’s our go-to now if we choose to go out for breakfast or lunch on the weekends. Adore that it is 100% Vegan because we don’t have to worry about a barista serving animal product. They have a great range of plant based milks to choose from & same with the food! Our favourite dessert to take home is the cinnamon buns. We’re addicted to say the least. ???????????????? I don’t think we can ever truly leave Fern without a delicious treat in hand for later on. Also, the breakfast sandwich is UNREAL! I’ve tried a competitor & they hit the nail on the head with portions for the breastfast sandwich. ????????

What a great place to eat! My partner and I have had nothing but good experiences eating here. We are both lactose intolerant and what a delight it is to not even have to ask about dairy in any of the menu items! My fav is either the cheese bun with bacon bits or the panini with mozzarella and sasuage*. Don't hesitate, give this place a try for quick snack and a hot beverage or a sit down meal.

Fern Cafe is some of my favourite food in all of Victoria. The buffalo chickUn sandwich is amazing, the poutine is tasty, all the breakfast items I've tried are delicious. The cinnamon rolls are decent, but I do feel that they lack the punch of extreme cinnamon I was looking for. All in all, Fern has amazing vegan food, and I've never been let down by the breakfast or lunches! Definitely give them a try.

And the side of chikun ($5.25) which was 2 bits of deep fried dough with chicken bits in them. We were both very hungry but not impressed. The carnival doughnut was very much liked by my son, but you can’t go wrong plastering something in sugar and cinnamon...

I moved to Victoria in April when the lockdown started, but fortunately for me, I moved somewhere a a 15min walk away from Fern. Fern Cafe had gotten a serving window to stay open for the community. If it wasn't for Fern Cafe staying open, I don't think I could have survived due to the terrible withdrawals I get when I don't have vegan cinnamon buns and donuts. Bless Fern Cafe for staying open amidst a pandemic, and that the owners remain adaptive and innovative in a very unpredictable economical climate. We are very fortunate in Victoria to have this establishment.

Very expensive for what it is. Yes they have a decent variety but not so tasty. There’s only a hype because it’s vegan and they don’t have competition in Victoria. Their fire burger is good but don’t try their breakfast sandwiches, so bland. Coffee always comes cold and in a tiny cup and again, so expensive.

I honestly woke up the day after trying out Fern Cafe on their opening day and thought I had dreamed it. It's literally just what I've been craving for a very very long time. Had their house-made sausage panini and lemon tart and was just blown away; both were utterly perfect, and that's speaking as a former baker of both vegan and non-vegan bread and pastries. Can't wait to try every single item on their menu. :D Also so stoked that they're palm-oil free, that was an unexpected and very welcome surprise! 100% would recommend!

I love this place. The food is so good! Their cinnamon buns and doughnuts are amazing, but the real MVP is their Caesar salad. Holy cow. I love how seriously they take social distancing and how easy it is to order ahead. You don't need to be vegan to enjoy eating here.

I also had the dandelion latte and I don't know what kind of magic is there but it is incredible! We visited the Fern Cafe for the first time this past weekend and it was AMAZING. We got a PB & J cookie, a lavender fog and a big bad breakfast sandwich. All three were a hit for everyone, including our 4 year old food critic. We were especially impressed with the creaminess of our lavender fog. We got it with oat milk and it was insanely creamy. We’ll be back real soon and we really appreciate the order window set up for covid times. No need to go inside! Yum!

One if the most delicious vegan restaurants I've even been to! They make some amazing baked goods (cinnamon buns are well known & sell out everyday!). They have a great menu of healthful soups, salads, sandwiches & more, as well as more decadent meal items such as Mac n' Cheeze, Cheeseburger, and their breakfast sandwich! The coffee bar is also stocked with dairy free goodies including matcha lattes and seasonal drinks such as Pumpkin Spice lattes! A gem in the Victoria plant based scene, and a must try for visitors!

Not so great take away. Ordered lunch here for the first time after hearing about Fern doing take-out & wantin got support local businesses. However, upon receiving my food I was disapointed to say the least. First of all, the cook shouldn't be passing the food to customers by hand when there is a take away window, you most definitely are not following health reccommendations and staying 6ft away from people. Secondly, (most importantly) the food was mediocre at best, the fries were cold, the bun of choice was cheap, the sing piece of lettuce was wilted there was a half pickle on my sandwich and the mock-chickUn was under cooked. I really wasn't expecting much but for 16$ plus an automatic 15% tip and taxes I was hoping for a bit more effort. Wont be coming back or reccomending to others. The buffalo chickun was edible and a great idea so they are the reason for 3 stars.

We hired Fern Cafe and Bakery for our wedding to make all of our deserts and they were amazing! I’m very allergic to dairy so I ordered all-vegan treats for desert from Fern Café. We had three different types of cookies, two types of brownies, a crumble bar, and mini cinnamon buns! We also got them to make us an extra-large cinnamon bun for our cake. Again, we had so many compliments on the desert, no one could even tell things were vegan. My father in law, a real traditional sweats addict, said that the cinnamon buns were the best he’s ever had.

Fern Cafe is out of this world amazing. I’d take their burgers over a Vancouver vegan burger any day (and I’ve tried my fair share). Try their pumpkin spice latte with matcha! It is to die for. Their poutine is luxurious, flavourful, and high in umami. The Buffalo Chickun burger is out of this world! The mix of ingredients in the patty makes it flavourful & the texture is bang on. The staff is welcoming, friendly, and kind. I would give more stars if I could. I’ll try the baked goods next time!

I have not been to Fern for a while due to their inconsistent food quality and portion sizes. The only thing that used to be quite consistent was their cinnamon buns. Well, today I received the worst cinnamon bun I ever had from fern! It was so dry almost burnt and had a huge uneatable sugar crust. Amazing vegan fare! It's so great to have a fully vegan place to eat in Victoria. My boyfriend who is not even slightly vegan loved his Mac and cheese, and my sausage and mozza panini was fantastic! Very cute fully vegan cafe in Victoria! We tried the Caesar salad, cheeeese burger, potato leek soup and Black Forest cake. It was all fantastic! Very rich flavors and it’s all fresh. They make everything themselves including the burger patties and the cheese. So happy this place is open 7 days a week and opens at 7am, great to grab breakfast. We were so hungry so we forgot to take pics of the food but you can see all the desserts. Will be back here every time we’re in Victoria.

All vegan. Makes me want to cry tears of joy when I don't have to check every item. At the door it says "100% Vegan". This prideful display of the owners' commitment to a better world is what brought me in the first time. Inside the door is a small hole in the wall that has a vibe of hard work and perseverance. Delicious items fill a rack - cinnamon buns, Parisian macaroons, lemon cake... All vegan. This, coupled with a fabulous menu are why keep returning. Vegan mochas. I haven't tried the whole coffee menu though from what I've had they know how to treat a bean. The vegan mocha I had today was rich and delicious and used oat milk. I thought about writing the owners to thank them for bringing this to Victoria - I figure that a wholehearted review is probably more useful. If you are vegan, this place is a must visit. If you are not vegan, this place will show you that you should be vegan and that you're not missing out on anything in doing so.

Best vegan comfort food! We had takeout for dinner night one, breakfast day two and lunch on our way out of town! The poutine is awesome, also loved the burger, chicken and pancakes, Italian sandwich and cinnamon buns. the Big Mac Crafty Mac was good because of the add-ons but the cheese sauce was seriously lacking - I make a better cheese sauce at home it's one of the easiest things to make vegan so that was disappointing. It needed some ACV or miso for zip, the colour is perfect but very bland. Best part is being able to order for pickup and the vegan magic is ready 10-15 mins later. Even my omni friends were in love!o

Best Victoria breakfast! 100% plant-based and vegan. The owners are so friendly and welcoming. We ate here nearly every day during our spring break trip and got a chance to try a good amount on the menu. The food is flavorful, filling and creative and the atmosphere is comfortable and sunny. They feature work from a local vegan artist which adds next level character to the ambiance.

Fern is hands down my favourite place to eat in Victoria! They have a great atmosphere and fantastic food. I didn't know that it was possible, but when they reopened in February, they got even better (the Chickun n Pancakes are everything). If you haven't been yet I would highly recommend stopping here for all your sweet and/or savoury needs.

Really cute breakfast spot! I got the breakfast sandwich which was alright - very filling but maybe a bit bland for me. The scramble is a much more interesting choice. I've eaten a lot of vegan burgers in my day. Fern makes some of the best. For me, I feel very comfortable in restaurants that are exclusively vegan. When I put soy milk in my coffee and plant based milks are the only ones available, im very happy. This is actually the only place I've ever been to that does that. Fern Cafe is a gem on Vancouver Island. We have taken multiple non-vegan friends there and they loved it. The poutine is probably the best poutine we've ever had (vegan or not), and their Fried Vegan Chicken....holy is that addictive. I have just turned vegan and this place has been a huge blessing to me. The coffee is always delicious. Oat milk latte does not feel like a compromise from a regular latte at all. I’ve been vegan for almost 10 years. The fact that this is the only vegan cafe and bakery in Victoria definitely works to Fern’s advantage, because there’s nothing to compare it to. We ordered the buffalo chickun burger, breakfast sandwich, cream of mushroom soup and a cinnamon bun. When you sell a product that’s imitating a non-vegan item like chicken burgers and cinnamon buns, you’re going up against the real thing. I’ve had non-vegan versions of these and vegan versions of these. First off, the cinnamon bun didn’t actually have any cinnamon flavour, just the subtlest hint of cinnamon. The dough had a good texture, but that was the only good thing about it. Unless Fern is doing their own unique, less sweet, much less flavourful version of a cinnamon bun, they definitely missed the mark. The cream of mushroom soup was basically water with floating spices and some mushrooms - no cream seemed present. Lacked seasoning and basically was unfiltered mushroom broth. The chicken burger was very disappointing. The breading was great, with lots of flavour, but none of that matters when the texture of the actual vegan meat inside is like a sponge. No other way to describe the texture. Squishy and airy are not the kind of texture you want in a faux chicken product. One of the burgers had one strip that barely took up 1/3 of the bun, the other had 3 small pieces that did a better job, so consistency is also an issue. Will not be coming here again and will be suggesting to others to tread lightly around Fern Cafe. Giving it 2 stars only cause the food came relatively quickly.

This place used to be so great but their quality has significantly gone down. The drinks taste watered down, the potatoes are stale and the burgers are mushy. I do still enjoy the chicken burger and pastries but other than that I don’t recommend. I used to be a regular and love to support a vegan business but recently I’m super disappointed with the food and service every time.

I highly recommend this vegan cafe! They have absolutely nailed it, from burgers to baking! I have literally tried almost all of the menu items. When I am in Victoria, I visit this cafe as often as I can. I have not only enjoyed the food, but the service has been great as well!

My husband and I LOOOVE this cafe! We have tried, the lemon tarts, the macaroons, the cinnamon buns, the Jersey Joe rolls, two of the burgers and a variety of muffins ..... and lattes. EVERYTHING has been outstanding in every way! It’s fresh, really well balanced and carefully made. The burgers have an amazing ratio of burger, sauce, fresh crunch and bun - making them the best we’ve ever tried! Knowing how much work and unique ingredients go in to plant-based-food, we find the pricing to be accurate. The ambiance is lovely with a very beautiful wall mural and a clean, cozy, but contemporary, vibe. A welcoming staff member always present to answer questions. Original artwork by local artists is a nice added touch. We drive an hour to eat here. Worth it and the highlight of our day! Highly recommend!

I would give Fern more than 5 stars if I could! Literally my favourite restaurant on the planet. If I had to choose only one food item to eat for the rest of my life, it would be their Buffalo Chick'un Burger (they make the vegan "chicken" in-house and it is mind-blowing). Try it (and everything else on the menu) immediately, even if you're not vegan! Fern is owned by the sweetest young family and you can tell that they put their entire heart & soul into this place.

This place is absolutely amazing!!! Every meal I've had at Fern Cafe and Bakery has knocked my socks off. The macaroons and cinnamon buns are to die for, they have the best mac and cheese in town and I wish I could eat their breakfast sandwich every single day! These two put their heart and soul into their cooking and it truly shows. The prices are more than reasonable in this charming cafe and I HIGHLY recommend you check them out.

I have lived in Fernwood for years and noticed when this place opened. The first time I went in I asked the person working if I could get an americano misto..."we only have what's on the board" she said abruptly and pointed to the coffee menu. She didn't seem interested in helping me out. The next time I went in and asked if I could use the bathroom. I planned on buying something after. The person working said very sternly that washrooms are for customer use only. I didn't get good vibes either time I went to this place. Reply to the Response from owner: Wow, that was a long-winded and defensive reply to my review. I see you did that to your other bad review as well. You can actually google how to respond to poor reviews in a much better way. The point I was trying to make is that both times I went in I was talked to rudely and didn’t feel welcome. It’s a customer service issue I’m bringing to your attention. The time I asked to use the washroom I was denied, and not even asked if I planned to buy something...so don’t worry, I didn’t use your bathroom. Good luck with your learning curve.

Consistently putting out fantastic baked goods, and stellar grub. I make at least a weekly appearance (commonly more), and typically get a muffin, cookie or scone when they have them. You can tell the owners work extremely hard and care a lot about animals and the products they create. Definitely worth a visit.

Best bakery/cafe in Victoria!!! I always love to eat at Fern. They menu is constantly expanding with delicious new creations. They are so much more than a bakery and also serve delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner options! (My personal fave is the Buffalo Chickun Burger!). The staff are always so friendly and the overall atmosphere is welcoming. It is so amazing to have such delicious vegan options that can appeal to everyone!

10/10. Black Forest cake and hazelnut macaron were divine. Gluten free focaccia was a bit crumbly, but the fillings and novelty of being able to order a gf vegan sandwich far made up for it. So many other gluten free options, it was honestly hard to choose what to order...I will be back!

Discovered Fern Cafe while visiting a friend in Victoria and we absolutely loved it! The tofu scramble was so tasty and the dessert/pastry items are so fab - the peach rhubarb crumble was my favourite. So great to be able to support local all-vegan places. Thank you!!

Stopped in on a trip into the city. This was top of my to do list, but the timing had me arrive just before 11am so only had a muffin, but it was a terrific muffin! Chocolate / Banana, still warm from the oven, incredible. I love the simple vibe of the place, has a serene feel to it (at least to me) that I loved. The menu looks great, prices seem very reasonable. It's not a huge menu but I can honestly say that I'd like to try every item on there it all sounds great. Will be back in the next few weeks for a fire burger!

Best Breakfast Ever!! I had the Breakfast Sandwich and a side of fries and it was so great! I have had a lot of vegan breakfasts and this is by far the best one ever. And such a great price. Delicious coffee and if you have room for a treat you won't be disappointed. Yummoh!

Such a hidden gem. The food was absolutely fantastic...if you're not vegan it doesn't matter, you couldn't tell the difference anyways. The service is great, it's a small, personal little spot. Staff are all lovely.

Always a great experience. From the lovely staff to the delicious food. My fave item is the Buffalo "Chickun" Burger with a side of their caesar salad. They have the best vegan cinnamon buns in town! Last but not least, but fave thing to drink is any seasonal latté they've got going on or a dirty chai with oat milk!
