I love it when bakeries stick their goodies in the window. I mean, what more do you need in terms of marketing that laying out an array of baked goods in the storefront? And it seems to be working with Crust Bakery, to overwhelming effect! Their window overlooking Fort St is a beauty: filled with rows upon rows of various French-style pastries and tarts, the wonderful thing is that it doesn't even stop there. It curves around the corner by the front entrance: cake slices, squares, and muffins... yummy! -- "Mimi's Cake Tour"

Try as many pastries as you can because everything is amazing! No trip to Victoria would be complete without a visit to Crust. We didn't want to spend a lot of money on high tea so we came here instead. We had the creme brulee, pistachio and the Swiss meringue tarts, as well as the beautifully floral Raspberry, Lychee, Rosewater and Pistachio on the most incredibly sweet, crunchy & flaky pastry! Everything was perfectly balanced without being overly sweet. I'm looking forward to returning!

This location is just good as the one downtown. I was going to get some other desserts from other shop in Uptown but can’t keep my eyes off the Ganaches from Crust Bakery. Always felt happy just to look at these amazing pastries. I just wanted to buy one of everything. The chicken sandwiches looked delicious, I would come back for it next time.

Gorgeous pastries matter little if your product is tepid at best and bland at worst. Tucked away on a side street, this cozy coffee cafe first tempts you with a window full of gorgeous looking pastries. I mean it when I say gorgeous. The presentation on these pastries is spectacular. Your only hint that something isn't right is their "smore." It's comically large. You can't fit it in your mouth. The flavours on their pastries fluctuate enormously. I had a strawberry curd tart, and it was entirely unremarkable. It tasted identical to any other curd tart. Which is fine, at best, but the giant swirl of toasted marshmallow fluff atop ruins it entirely. You get one bite in and it becomes a problem. The mountain of fluff instantly tries to bond to anything it can, and that means you have to fight a losing battle against sticking. If you're dumb enough to get a smore, you have to eat it in one bite or die. That fluff hates existing. It wants to glue to anything and everything around, and due to it being 9/10 of the pastry, this means that you have no choice but to glue it to your hand (or your cutlery if you're lucky) when trying to consume it. And ultimately? It's boring. There's no "wow" factor. I've had campfire smores with more character and better balance. Lastly, the most insulting thing on the menu: the chocolate cronut. A croissant donut. Croissants usually aren't sweet, and when making a cronut you fight a battle of flaky texture versus sweet glaze. They lost. It's adorned with a flavourless mess of chocolate glaze that's lost in the deep fried croissant, and it GUSHES chocolate filling between the halves. The filling shares the fate of the glaze: it tastes like nothing. It would have more character with nutella instead of chocolate filling, and maybe then it would have a flavour. When it comes to food, style should never beat substance. This restaurant is rubbish.

Great variety of baked goods and pastries. Stumbled in for a quick bite and coffee before our trek to Craigdarroch Castle about a 20 minute walk further. Mom had the ham and cheese croissant, aunt had the sausage roll and I, of course, had to get the chocolate croissant. Can’t say it was comparable to France but they were pretty tasty. Ask them to warm them up for you too!

I will never go back. It is very good, I arrive early 7:40 and the staff ignores me while they are setting up their counter goods, starting at 730. I stand and wait. On two days, the red hair girl won't even look at me, and yet a cafe owner which comes early each day 7:45 is let in and is served ( picks 6 muffins from the counter that I would like), she was served by a dark hair girl and the red hair girl stands and chatted happily with this customer, totally ignoring me. At 8 when they officially open, she is overly polite and sickeningly happy as if to rub my nose in this experience. Gloating that she has won the day....she has...I will never go back. I will never go back.

Cannot speak highly enough about the food absolutely beautiful pastries, worth every penny. Unfortunaly though, dont expect the best service reliably. I wanted to get my team of 9 breakfast for part of an employee appreciation day, 9 pastries early in the day when their stock was fresh and plenty. The person helping me, thought I'd asked her to birth 9 pastries apparently because she seemed outraged about having to lift small baked goods from a shelf to a box. The only other person working settled into a 7 minute long conversation with an aqcuaintence in the growing line. She left while compiling my order twice to go to the kitchen despite there being multiples of the items I'd ordered in the display (I came to find out when I got back to the office that it was, at least in part, to just straight up get me the wrong things... cool...) And then asked me if I wanted a bag for 50$s worth of pastries, after I've paid, to then inform me that I had to pay for the bags... having no cash on me I had to tap for $00.10. Co-workers have said similar experiences. Again though, the food is brilliant. Truly.

Mouthwatering Gigantic Pastries. I was visiting Russell books next door and the action of browsing cook books got my stomach grumbling for a tea time treat. How could anyone with a sweet tooth bypass Crust bakery without making a pit stop? Their selection of goodies in their windows were so inviting! The window displayed oversized handheld peach pies, muffins bursting with fruit and toppings, filled Berliner donuts and 2 types of cream filled pastries called a "cronut" decorated with crispy chocolate pearls on top of a chocolate ganache topping and a chocolate custard filling. A cronut is a cross between a croissant and a donut. The only time I had ever heard of a cronut was from a pastry shop in NY city where the lineups for a limited number of this pastry is a testament to its exclusively and popularity. One bite of this cronut lived up to its outer hype-- custard that not too sweet, intense chocolate flavor ganache, pastry crust that's light and slightly chewy and the crunch of the pearls. For $4 it was a lovely bit of messy heaven that didn't bog you down with too much carbs. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about their goods. The shop is small but well lit due to the white painted walls. Savory pastries, bars and cookies are also available as well as coffee. No seating available. Everything is sold to go. There is a sign on one of the windows that advertises their baked goods as award winners. After the cronut that I had I am in agreement with that sentiment too. Thank god I don't live in the neighborhood otherwise I'd find a reason to visit daily ????

I love this place so much! In the few days I was visiting Victoria, I would come to this bakery to pick up some baked goods for a snack or the breakfast the next day. Their baked goods are sold at an affordable price and their staff are very nice. I would recommend people to check out this bakery if they're ever in town. Super yummy.

My cousin had ordered a cake for his wife’s birthday and the day before he was supposed to pick it up, she went into labour. I had called to see if I could pick it up for them a couple days after the set pick up date and mentioned what happened. I would line up every morning with the locals to get my flat white and pastries (yes, at least 2/day is what the doctor recommends!). One word: yum!!! There is usually a queue outside but totally worth the wait, as there is an amazing selection of pastries and baked goods to choose from. EDIT: I have visited this place several times and generally I end up quite disappointed with the service and their lack of interest. As an example, once I ordered to pieces of cake and the lady that was helping me decided that it would be a good idea to place both pieces in a paper bag, instead of using a box and avoid the pieces to be smashed. We came here on a Sunday morning, and the place was busy with people constantly coming in and out. We order some pastries (ham and cheese croissant, almond croissant and apple crumble) which were very tasty. This place also offers a wide variety of coffees. Overall it is great, but a bit pricey.

We tried this place simply because it was open on Sunday. It's the only Bakery in Victoria that is open on a Sunday. I am very glad that I did because it was absolutely delicious. Our group tried several things including the regular croissant the chocolate croissant and I think it was a Blackberry currant pastry. All of them were light Airy buttery and extremely tasty. I would definitely come here again the prices are reasonable and what they offer is so tasty.

Amazing cookies! Every one we have tried (ginger, snickerdoodle, chocolate with pistachio) has been great- from the consistency to the flavour. Such a cute shop with so much to try! Very friendly staff every time I go. Delicious Americano and brewed coffee. My favourite are the almond croissants, which are super rich and moist inside. I usually eat it in portions throughout the day. We've also enjoyed their blueberry pastry, a cherry pistachio (I think that's what it was), and the almond twist. Everything is fresh, super crisp, and flavourful. Great first choice amongst the coffee options in Uptown.

Was visiting a friend and was told I had to come here. Got an Americano (no price difference between M/L bc it is the same amount of espresso) and a blueberry vanilla custard pastry. Simply one of the best pastries I've had. Coffee was great too- worth coming back for either or. Got a foccacia to go- was very soft and more fluffy than I expected (1 1/2 inch thick). Great product and a good price

I had the zucchini quiche which was delicious. Amazing selection of tasty treats, and surprisingly not jam-packed on a Sunday afternoon. Only downsides were no washrooms, limited seating and staff seemed a bit impatient. Would certainly recommend though, and would love to try some of their bread next time!

The new Uptown location is one of those blessings that only comes around once in a while. It does make it harder to not grab a pastry every morning before work, but it's also a welcome addition to the landscape. The pastries are amazing, the coffee is fantastic, and the customer service is top quality. Loved the downtown location, but having this one closer to home is wonderful, and i very much enjoy it.

Been coming here for over 3 years, I'm a middle aged white guy so naturally I love all things bread. They have some great pastries, instead of eating Timmies for breakfast- ignore that sheep part of your brain and treat yourself to an egg, bacon, and tomato danish. It sounds weird but thats what they probably thought about the first person who made a sandwich- now look at us, progress. Also, as a side note it takes some pretty large huevos to open up a bakery right next to one that is considered a Victoria institution (I won't say its name) and do as well as they have. So stop reading this and go stuff your face with something delicious from Crust.

Not to happy with my experience because it didn't happen. My sister asked me to bring home chocolate chip cookies. She said go to Crust. I had just enough time to make it before they closed at 4:30. Arrived and parked and was at the the door at 4:25. Just in time to find a locked door and the girl inside looking at me grabbing her purse to leave. Not cool. Next time I won't bother to rush across town to try this place. Not worth it if you ask me. Seems like they could care less.

I was very taken aback by the poor service here. It felt like I was an inconvenience to the girl “helping” me. She showed no interest, had no patience, or any form of customer service and on top of that – very rude! I was hoping the pastries would be a redeeming factor, unfortunately they fell flat as well. Well this is just plain dangerous. Crust, one of my favorite stops is now in my work Neighborhood here in Uptown. All the goodies you'd expect from downtown is now even closer to many of us. The croissants are a headline grabbers with the sausage rolls and ham, cheese, and tomato croissant all on the top of my list. If you need something on the sweeter side the Vanilla cronut is my choice. The outdoor location is easy to access and 'Covid friendly'. Coffee and regular breads are also available. service is great too. A must stop.

RUDE SERVICE, AND FORGOT SOME OF MY ORDER! The food is good but there are a lot of other bakeries to chose from that are not as rude. The bigger girl with the long brown hair helped us and scolded us for taking a drink of our latte after standing in the freezing snow for 20 mins, we were ready to warm up, then she handed me back my savory pastry that she warmed up for us and it was ice cold and hard as a rock, completely unedible. She then scolded me for tasting it, l am glad l did , because it needed to be reheated properly. I agree with the covid measures, but you should not alienate your patrons, maybe put up a sign and not put your patrons on the spot and embarrass them, will never give you my business again and would suggest others not to as well. Not to mention some the pastries we ordered did not even make it in the bag! Come on people, there needs to be some retraining involved.

Stunning variety. They kept adding different treats throughout the morning. I had a Pear Almond Tart. It was exquisitely soft, and wonderfully sweet--but a gentle kind of sweet. My mother had a savory treat; a sausage (with fennel, tiny bits of carrot, and who knows what else) wrapped in a delightfully crisp and layered pastry. Both were wonderful. The place is small but welcoming, and I appreciated the staff's patience with me as I asked some questions about the different pastries. It was a great start to our morning!

This place has an amazing window display first off. I got hungry just looking at the all the delicous looking pastries and desserts before I even went inside. I have yet to go into Crust bakery (I live in Van), but was lucky enough to try some of their treats at a wedding I attended this summer. Delicious!!! I feel like I miss out on a lot of good bakery stuff since I don't eat wheat, but Crust has some gluten-free treats that are fantastic :) My husband said the wheat pastries were delicious, too -- and he doesn't normally even like sweet things that much, but he loved the ones from Crust. I know one of the women who works there, and she is super charming and friendly, so I expect that when I finally get a chance to sit down there, the customer service will also be excellent :) Even if she's not working that day, if her personality is an indication of the quality of people working there, then I am sure they're all lovely. Can't wait for my next visit to Victoria!!!!!!

I really wanted to love this place, but I just don't think it's for me. In my three separate, recent visits for their Kouign-Amann, the first was underdone, the second was perfect, and the third was burnt on the bottom. Service-wise, they are quick and efficient, but this comes off to me as terse. I much prefer to visit Fol Epi or Bond Bond's for sweet snacks when in the neighbourhood.

Had a red wine pear and orange custard pastry today. It was absolutely perfect in every way; I can't think of a single thing to make better. The pears are poached so perfectly, given the exact right amount of red wine flavour and softness. The custard offered enough orange flavour to offset the intensity of the pears. And of course the pastry dough is to Crust's standard of perfection: flaky, tender and moist, and a wonderfully crispy bite. One of Victoria's treasures for sure.

We ordered the raspberry, lychee & rosewater pastry and the feta, tomato and basil pastry. Both were very good. It would have easily been 5 stars except the service was the worst I've seen in a long time. If you're going to treat your customers like a huge inconvenience, you might not have any in the future.

Some of their baked goods are tasty, and others are dried out & disappointing. The staff are very flustered, moody, and could use some training in professionalism & customer service honestly. The few times I have been in, the staff were impatient and abrasive (they seemed frustrated when anyone had questions about products). I have also called there before to ask questions and have had to hang up because I've been placed on hold for so long. For a Bakery that is situated in the heart of downtown ..in a tourist city .. word of mouth business means A LOT. The poor customer service could definitely hinder business going forward.

Best bakery in Victoria! Those guys know what backing is all about! You can tell the difference when having their tarts, Quiche or croissants compared to any other bakery in Victoria. The almonds croissant rules! It's big, heavy and adequately baked to perfection. It's a small joint, not so many places to be seated. Perfect for take out. Price is on the average side $$.

Or my favourite, either a raspberry or strawberry chocolate mousse tart with an Iced Americano. The chocolate is rich and the beans are dark. After ordering a cake and paying for it a week before I was told I could pick it up after 12:00 noon which is probably the busiest time of the day , when u get there u have to wait in line after finally getting to the front of the line was told there was no cake order finally found the order I was told to come back in a half hour finally got the cake , which I ahoush have cancelled because turned out the cake was dry ,don't no when the actual cake was made but everyone at dinner said it was not worth the time it took to get it or the money, needless to say I won't be ordering from there again.

Just THE BEST bakery Downtown! Their pastries (croissants and kugan Aman especially) are so buttery and crunchy, it's such an sensory experience. And please do yourself a favour and try their passionfruit curd tart when they have it! Their passionfruit flavour is the perfect mix of tart and sweet and it has a creamy, marshmellow-y top to balance everything out. I've never been disappointed eating here. Their lunch options are quite good, too! You can never go wrong with their quiches and the tomato bacon egg breakfast pastry.

This place is so good! I heard they have really good cronuts but they were sold out when I got their. Didn’t even matter though , because everything else I got was delicious. These pecan chocolate chip cookies were so tasty and I got some sort of fruit muffin(sorry can’t remember the name) but it was also delicious. Place is no joke you see the five stars from everybody else. Do not hesitate just go to crust and enjoy the delicious baked goods!!

We also got a gluten free cookie and were initially hesitant as we are not gluten free and didn’t expect it to be as good as “normal” cookies but it was so soft and delicious ????

I'm glad I'm not the only one in the reviews who noticed that most of the pastry was sort of one note or bland. Like others, I also noticed that there were baking errors that a proper bakery would never sell to the customer. The creme brule tart had broken cream, it wasn't edible. Even a home Baker wouldn't serve that to guests. Otherwise, I found everything fairly one-note. They rely heavily on icing sugar as a main flavour component. The tart shells are sickeningly sweet, which works with a sour tart filling but most their fillings also taste like icing sugar. The pistachio tart also got tossed, it tasted like a mouth full of sugar and nothing else. Their pastry is, ok. Nothing special. On par with Costco but better than chain coffee shops for sure. It wasn't bad and I would eat it again, but I wouldn't get it for guests if I was trying to offer something special. I think like many places customers here are either eating with their eyes, or have just never had exceptional baking to compare it too. Everything looks like it will taste amazing, the reviews are amazing, so you get a placebo effect. The stuff is mediocre tasting with very little love or attention put into creating the complex flavour profiles that high end baking is known for. They're all show and no soul

Loveeee your pastries. The raspberry creme Brule tart is my all time favorite. The danishes are also to die for. I recommend the rosewater and lychee or the vanilla cherry Danish.
