The bread is decent, but points off because of the employees (or perhaps it was one of the owners, I couldn't tell). The attitude here leaves MUCH to be desired, Not only are they unfriendly with the typical Victoria "Take it or Leave it" approach, but they don't appear overly knowledgeable when it comes to dealing with better breads. Today I bought a loaf there that I thought might make good French toast for tomorrow morning, and the woman who served me asked if I wanted it sliced. I replied "Sure, if you can cut thick slices." She looked at me as though I'd grown three heads, so I just told her I'd do it myself. Once I had paid she gave me the bread in a plastic bag, and said they didn't use paper bags for bread.
What kind of a self-respecting better bakery provides bread in plastic bags to their customers? Plastic bags destroy the crust of the bread.
It's a good thing they aren't the only quality bakery in town, and that I can bake my own bread, because I'm not sure I'll be going back.
EDIT
A late addendum to my "quality bakery" comment. Now, the *only* place I buy bread is Fol Epi on Yates. I did try going back to Bond Bond's a few times after the aforementioned incident, with similar results. Then Fol Epi opened their new location and I've never looked back: Friendly and knowledgeable staff, great atmosphere and amazing breads that are priced *very* competitively. If you haven't already check them out.
