I remember the Empress Bakery from years ago, and I was shopping there a lot. It was one of my favourite bakeries. Not anymore. Although bread and pastries remain to be good quality, the counter staff is very unpleasant. They make me feel like they are doing me a favour, irritated by my presence. With new bakeries and pastry shops opening in the area, I am glad I have a choice of not coming back.

Lovely European bakery. The breads and pastries are not over-sweetened or heavy - just classic German perfection. My favorites are: rye breads, hala, cheesecake, apple pie and Bismarks. Prices are affordable comparing to fancy competitors. Bring cash/debit, as no credit cards are accepted. Come early if you want to see bigger selection. Fast and appropriate service.

The cake was sub par, so was the customer service. I should’ve just gone to safeway. That means safeway’s mass produced cakes are better. But I only tried their chocolate butter cream cake. It wasnt too expensive. But i feel this place deserves a 1 star rating. My opinion. Its a free country.

Best bakery in the city! Have been going here for 40 yrs at least! Buns, Double baked rye is THE best....and the Bismarks and all the sweets! Yum!! And they remember you which is special in this day and age!

Avoid this bakery! Product is good, the service is awful and getting worse. Tried to ask what was in a danish and she balked, which one are you pointing at. Then tried to buy a danish. Then wanted to add to my order, she threw down the bag she opened, and got a box. I just wanted to buy more! There are lots of places that sell Rye bread and buns! Shame on you Empress! I have been shopping there for 30 years. This was my last trip to support them!

I used to go here regularly because they have good bread and pastries but the lady that owns the place is quite cold and rude actually. I stopped coming back since there are so much more bakeries nearby that offer better customer service.
