REVIEWS OF Duchess Bake Shop IN Edmonton

Adrienne Hyde-Sawatsky

Impeccable service! I'm in Manitoba and ordered delivery for someone in Edmonton. Tricia was quick to respond to my delivery order for some clarifications, and went above and beyond my expectations to ensure a successful order and delivery. I truly can't thank her (and the shop!) enough, and I look forward to visiting in person someday myself! The receiver was SUPER happy with the tasty treats!

Vanfoodiepharmily

Happened to pass by one day and decided to drop in. This place was so elegant and there were so many options for drinks and treats. This place was pleasant to the palate and the eyes! This blueberry eclair defined perfection ????Definitely will go back for more treats!

They have very nice products and the baristas are very good however, the people behind the counter are very rude. If I knew the name of the pastry I was looking for I wouldn’t be asking you for help. Sorry you’re in a customer service position. If you hate people maybe don’t work behind a counter. I wasn’t rude when I asked my question of “do you have a princess cake?” But your snarky response and eye roll where very noticed. I hope your day gets better and you can treats people kindly.

The E-Rs

Some things just defy description, and fine, flaky pastry is one of them. Duchess ranks up there with the best patisseries that I’ve visited in France — we’re very fortunate to have them in Edmonton.

Kelly

I bought my partner a very rich and delicious chocolate birthday cake. It was amazing! Highly recommended!

Nikoo N

Love the pastry here. Delicious and high quality, BUT unfortunately the customer service is very poor. I've been to their 124 St. twice and both times I was treated rudely. Taste and quality aside, it's all about the experience. They are not the only one in the city with great pastries.

Shaylene Cameron

The best French macarons in the city! Pistachio and salted Caramel are my favs!

Taly Matiteyahu

Cute bakeshop with a lot of pasties and pies. They had a menu for breakfast, too, that looked pretty good. The line was a bit long and it took a while - the staff seemed to move a bit slowly, given how busy it was. Everything looked delicious, so it was hard to choose what to get. I settled on the brioche pepin. It was good, but not as good as it looked. Would definitely return to try other things!

Carl Wong

Busy bakery but everything we tried was very good. Lives up to the reputation. Just wish there was more room for patrons to sit.

Jeff Manuntag

An excellent selection of pastries and baked goods. If you have a sweet tooth, you are going to be in some trouble trying to make your mind up in what you want to try. It can get real busy at peak times but if you have some time to take a stroll on 124th, make your way to duchess as you won’t be disappointed.

I have never been there before, but I heard good things from friends about it. So I wanted to give it a try. We bought 3 small pastries. My favorite was the macaroon. It was pretty crowded and never having been there before a little confusing to know where to line up. It was good but not that special, looking at all these 5 star reviews I expected something extraordinary, that would blow me away. I might be spoiled a little as well since I am originally from Europe and I had the fortune to enjoy a lot of really good pastries down there. Nevertheless give it a try, just don't expect something perfect.

Jauvard Gentles

Amazing goodies for all. I was very impressed with the cheesecake.

Tara Y

My boyfriend and I found this place on a whim during our Edmonton visit. What an awesome bakery! We were there around 3pm and almost everything was cleared out!! The macaroons were AMAZING… All the ones we had were incredible (Shirley temple, pistachio, salted caramel, and the vanilla bean (can’t remember the original name)). Hoping to go back next time we’re in Edmonton!

Yaa Boateng

The absolute best desserts I have ever tasted. Everything taste like it's made with quality ingredients. The croissant sandwich... the best croissants I've ever eaten! And the macarons easily take the number 1 spot when it comes to the best macarons I've ever had.... and they're affordable? ???? I love the vibes, decor, desserts, and coffee! I would recommend it to any and everyone!

Pascal Tessier

Went to 2 locations in the last month and both were very disappointing compared to the Italian center shop I normally go to. Selection was very limited and the lime pie was so sweet I didn’t even finish. All hype…but nothing to get exited about…skip and go to the Italian places (bakery or center) as 5x the selection at a lesser cost…3 stars as their chocolate croissants we at least good…rest was forgettable…

Arnold D'souza

Was a treat to go to this bake shop. A nice place to go on a date and enjoy some tasty creations.

Owen Tyndall

Great local bakery. Their pan au chocolat was buttery and flakey with bitter chocolate. It was ok. The macarons are buttery and delicious, and their cherry Madeleine was scrumptious. Recommend.

Munchica

Eating their pretty cakes and pastries makes me feel like a Disney princess :) fairytale castle vibes...

Rafs GF

The desserts and food are amazing here, nice and friendly staff and pretty quick service considering how busy they are. Only thing is there coffee is always cold :( even if made fresh it's not hot enough. Come here whenever I am in Edmonton and it's the same always. Wish the seating was different (more chairs) as it is super busy and hard to get a bigger group on the tables. Still love coming here and really enjoy so Everytime.

Gengar Kirie

Always amazing, best bakery in town. Authentic french pastries, and everyone is so nice and kind. They have good sanitizing, and everyone is wearing masks, so very safe too.

Gabriele Milione

Wonderful French bakery. The croissants are beautifully flakey and one of the best you can find in Edmonton. It's a great place to pick up some freshly made eclairs or pies. However, you better get there early if you want the pastries as it doesn't not tend to stay on the shelf for long.

Elly G

One of my favourite bake shop in town! Yum! Their cheese croissant is one of the best in town! So crispy outside and soft inside Lunch is decent price and tasty. The place is always very busy at weekends. But it’s definitely worth to wait~ Their cheese croissant is one of the best in town! So crispy outside and soft inside Recently ordered the Christmas cookie box. Every flavor is great! Also it's not very sweet

Nana Gao

It’s highly recommended! Not too sweet and delicious!

Marco F

One of the best French pastry shops in Canada, easily. The quality and consistency of the food is impressive along with a fantastic atmosphere for dining in. The assorted baked goods rival any Parisian patisserie or boulangerie but the Gruyere croissant is better than anything I’ve had in France. Crispy, flaky and wonderfully savoury croissant made accessible. Absolute gem of a restaurant in Edmonton, a real treat!

Gary Weller

If you've never been, go, and buy one of everything. You'll thank me later!

Elizabeth Cruickshank

You can't go wrong at this bakery. Beautiful space and delicious treats.

Jordan Rose

Great French bakery. Christmas Gingerbread whoville.

Amanda Saunders

I was so impressed, even with mask mandates lifted, everyone was masked including customers and employees. Of course, the food is incredible as well. Always worth a trip when I come into the city!

Morgan Manuel

Beautiful experience. The the decor is so elegant and warm and the food is unique and delicious. They have so many creative treats and drinks and is made in house. They also have a good selection of some hard to fund baking items so whether it's to pick up some ingredients and their cook book to make something at home or to relax with a coffee and a sweet treat. In a great location with lots of other interesting places to visit as well. Check this place out!!!

Jonathan Stiansen

Wonderful baking. I was very impressed.

Jolie Vuong

Super yummy pastries/cakes as always, but way too rich in my opinion. I also asked them to write a message on the cake, as I had preordered and called the day before pickup to request. However, was disappointed when I opened it and there was no writing whatsoever. Not a super big deal but obviously was something that could’ve been prevented.

Ken Cummings P. Eng.

A gem we are lucky to have in Edmonton. The Hogwarts Castle gingerbread display is incredible, as were the boxes of sweets and pastries we brought home!

K H

Great happy service. Don't forget to grab a coffee to go with that delicious patisserie. The key lime pie is a must for a first timer or visitor from out of town.

Jareth MacKay

Such a beautiful place, with great quality food, great customer service, just top notch. the people behind the counter have such amazing manners and I can't recommend this place enough.

Hasna Lessard

My absolute favorite pastry shop in edmonton! The French macarons are too perfect I am a Macaron lover and they nailed it with every flavor . The croissants are amazing.. EVERYTHING so delicious !!

Tiffany Tobin

Awesome place with beautiful cakes! They also have food and some awesome drinks. They also sell baking stuff to take home.

Nikita Cole

Literally the best macarons I've ever had! Superb!!

Mike Grant

Very nice desserts and croissants! We had a delicious lunch, croissant and coffee. Thank you for the nice experience!

Sarah Y

Sunday afternoon with a brownie hit the spot. I am not much for eating a lot of chocolate or coffee but the brownie here was the correct proportion of bitter-sweet, moist with defined edges and pecan pieces, and a slick aftertaste that never leaves the mouth feeling parched like most sugar laden brownies; it leans more into dark chocolate rather than milk and chocolate territory. I recommend pairing a freshly brewed medium-roast coffee on a weekday morning with this brownie. I tried their black currant short bread cookies, too, the filling is slightly more viscous than your typical jam so I would recommend an herbal rosehip or hibiscus tea on Sundays. For people who prefer the taste of traditional shortbread, a package plus a cup of ceylon tea is a casual pairing for evenings indoors.

Went to this bake shop and found it to be excellent in all aspects - the décor, the choice of bespoke baking ingredients and of course, the excellent customer service provided by the employees. The Duke cake I had purchased for my wife was greedily consumed and was the most chocolatey dessert we've had in quite some time. Sublime! Definitely recommended. I had heard they were considered the best pâtisserie in the city. I have absolutely no trouble believing it!

Olga Hnat

Visited this place first time today. Came in 30 mins after opening and saw a huge line up and the place was full, all tables taken - which I guess is a sign of a good product. But line up moved very slowly. Unbelievably slowly. It took me probably good half an hour to get my small order and pay for it. Staff, however, was friendly and helped with some good suggestions. Great selection of cakes, pastries, cookies, scones, croissants - whatever you want. Will take quite a while to try everything to know what's good and what's the best :) Will certainly come back for more! Just make sure to come early - cashier told me that the line up formed even before opening. UPDATE - full 5 stars - they deserve it! Even with huge lineups. Their Almond croissant is second best in town (I still like Brio bakery the most), but their scones... And chocolate bread pudding - Omgggg... They are simply the best! And they are huge too! You just have to try them - they are that good!

Garby Hinz

I love the quality of the pastries, and the cakes are incredible, but customer service is disappointing. I have been to the 124th location many times and staff have been extremely rude the last three times I visited.

Ellen Fung

We placed an order on line and had free delivery. Thank you for giving us this option Duchess Bake Shop! You go above and beyond to make this special! Happy Easter to you all!

Donovan Jang

Duchess needs no introduction or further explaining--they simply deliver a quality product and experience that live up to the hype. You can't go wrong with anything at Duchess, but make sure the macarons are on your have-to-try list. These macarons are on par with ones I ate in Paris... And if that's not good enough, then I don't know what is. Just know that it WILL be busy!

Wes Inaba

Incredible pastries and very personable service. The baking is renowned and world class. Be warned that some days the lineup is lengthy but well worth it. Clearly this is a ritual for many Edmontonians on the weekend. ❤️

K M

I never had anything here but look at this whoville display. Will review when i try something.

Kristin R

No question - the pastries and drinks are outstanding. The ambiance is wonderful. Go early or it can get quite busy for a longer line-up. And check out the Hogwarts Gingerbread Castle if you're going during the 2018 holiday season!

Karen Gonzalez

What a treat, everything looks delicious and most of them are. They should have more tables and chairs because they have more space and a lot of people, especially in the weekends. The macaroons flavor is good but they were old or something but they weren't smooth as they are supposed to be. The beverages are good but tiny and pricey. Very French style, nice place but I recommend going during the week.

De66ee Gerrard

You walk in here and the atmosphere is so cozy and the smell of freshly baked goods puts a smile on your face. Showcases were full of delicious looking goodies and making up your mind a chore. Being freshly made is what you pay for so two coffees and two pastries cost us almost $20.00. But.....treat yourself, they were so good and you could go back many times to try the variety they have. Parking is a challenge so be prepared to drive around the block a few times. ????????????☕️????

Vijay Kumar

Very good bake shop. Always busy and things fly off the shelf for two reasons, they are good at it, and no other competition. :-)

Andrea Razcon

Really nice! Loved the little library they have inside.

Jo Luo

Chocolate croissant and banana cream pie were my fav!! Always so busy there, hard to find parking also. Well, it’s all for the taste of dessert!! Lol...

Denise

Wow! Two of my best friends surprised me with three Dukes for us to celebrate my birthday. Beautiful and delicious. P.S. When I come into the bakery my friends should get a referral discount. They made a customer out of me❣️

Dan Barbu

One of the best bakeries in town, if not THE best. I've come here quite a few times and never disappointed. Best macaroons I've ever had. They're not too crunchy but not overly soft either. The lemon tart as well as the Paris Brest (hazelnut and pastry in one) are my absolute favourites, along with their butter tarts. Definitely give these a try, you won't be disappointed.

Kelsey Keddy

Had been following this bakery on Instagram for over a year before I made a trip from NS out west. This was a MUST stop on my bucket list and it did not disappoint! The macrons and tart were so delicious and delicate! I'll be back!

Nader Hallak

Awesome and exquisite. They should consider reopening their dine in spot again.

Joanna Rose

I was lucky enough to have a flight from Edmonton delayed and I stopped in at this bakery - which I’ve been following online for months and have wanted to try so bad. Let me tell you, they did NOT disappoint. Everything I tried was amazing - I got a pain au chocolat (dark) and it was so fresh and crunchy and buttery and amazing. They also had the option for milk chocolate which I did not try but options are good! I also had pistachio, salted caramel, and rose macarons which were equally and crunchy and gooey and oh so good. I probably wouldn’t get the rose one again, it tastes exactly how it sounds. Lastly the brownies!!! Mmm my mom requested this one and I’m glad she did it was perfect, probably the best brownie I’ve had and would have again for sure. I hope I one day have another chance to visit this bakery or that they do some sort of pop up in Vancouver. I would love to try the tarts and also their cronuts which they only sell at their restaurant - sad. I was most looking forward to that! Anyway 10/10 would recommend.

Sergio

AMAZING! Ordered the Duke Cake online, was in touch via email the entire time and kept in the loop with the entire process from start to finish. I was sent a picture of the cake before delivery. Delivery was on time and the cake wasn't damaged. Wife loved the cake, tastes amazing and looks WOW. Will order from here again and again. Money well spent and such a smooth transaction. DUCHESS YOU GUYS MADE MY WIFE'S BDAY A SUCCESS. THANK YOU.

Terra La Rose

This bakery is really great they make the best macaroons and gingerbread cookies I have found in the city.. it is also very trendy so the atmosphere is always busy and positive. I love Duchess bakery. I would recommend it to anybody wanting a quality treat!

Cody Ivey

Tried this bake shop for the first time. The shop was bright and inviting. We had a tough time deciding what to get as they all looked amazing! Decided on a sort of whipped Pistachio Macaroon thing, a lemon tart, and a triple chocolate chip cookie. All were excellent!

T Tkachyk

Went on the recommendation of a friend. Was worth finding parking on a busy Sunday morning! Tarts and Pies were to die for. A nice spot to sit down, eat, drink, and watch life pass you by. A must stop if you're in the area! Friendly and courteous staff.

Shabira Ramji

We bought a small carrot cake and chocolate cake. They were extremely delicious. We could not stop eating these cakes. Compliments to the baker. The staff were extremely helpful. Whoever has trained, the staff, I would like to say a big thank you. Looking forward to visiting your other location in Richie area. Please take care and stay safe. God bless each and everyone of you. ????????????????????????????????

Maureen Brown

Heard a lot of good things about this place, so really wanted to like them, but I'm just not impressed. Everything looks good, but somehow it doesn't hit the spot for me. Example: oatmeal and milk chocolate cookies - just ho-hum oatmeal cookies with a little piece of milk chocolate on top. I got some beautiful looking madelines, that were more like little pieces of cake than the madelines I've had before. Also got a scone that wasn't as good as it looked.

Svetlana Nemchenko

Very disappointing experience this morning at this bakery. This building does not honor clients who have medical exemption to masking and will ask you to leave. You are officially a second class citizen to them and do not deserve to have your medical records honored if you want to eat at this bakery. I invite you to place a sign in your window that notifies you do not serve individuals with medical exemptions.

Spencer Chaulk

Absolutely incredible! The curb appeal alone in enough to welcome you in, the beautiful design of the interior compliments the amazing looking treats under the glass. Some how the treats taste better than they look!

Gerald J

Delicious pastries and friendly staff

Taylor Tan

Great bakery shop. Always awesome products. One star off due to inconsistent product received. As picture attached, one of the butter tarts was only 1/3 filled as compared to the bottom left which is totally filled. Average service. Maybe hire someone that is genuinely into providing great services and have product knowledge on the baked goods, instead of late teens/early 20s that could not be bothered in answering questions, smile back or even acknowledge customer’s thank you.

Suwon Lee

It was first time visiting this place. We got chocolate cake, chocolate orange scones, macaroons, cherry pie, and some cookies. Everything was great and probably the best bakery in Edmonton area.

gracie v

Came here for the basic macaron class and it was an awesome experience! Jake (one of the owner) was very good at giving instructions. In between he would tell the stories on how the bakery came about and it was very inspiring. These guys put in so much effort, hard work and commitment into the bakery and it totally shows. They love what they do and they strive to provide the best product to their customers. The use premium ingredients , they do not cut corners and you can taste that in their products! Keep it up duchess!!

Emily Smith

This is a great bake shop. Elegant feel while staff are lovely and humble. Butter tarts and sour cream cherry pies are easily my favourites. I own 2 of their cookbooks and the recipes always turn out amazing. I always get compliments on whatever I make from them.

DJ

Great croissant, macarons however were bad. They were hard and stale tasting. My date got the quiche and said it was okay. Atmosphere was lovely, very cute and unique for Edmonton. Would go again, grab a drink and enjoy the atmosphere but the food didn’t wow me. Very busy on a Sunday afternoon so be prepared to wait in line and for a table.

Ian Roth

This is the best bakery in Edmonton. Everything they make is excellent. Don't be discouraged by the long line ups. The line moves fast and it's worth the wait

Becca M

I usually stop in once a month for some treats and have no real complaints, except that they got rid of their Florentine cookies and I cannot get/ find a recipes that replicates them! Please bring them back once in awhile, or share your recipe with me ;) Anything that I haven't enjoyed has been due to personal preference. Clean shop, beautiful décor and store front, super friendly employees with good customer service skills. The line can move a bit slow I imagine it's because they are usually busy and will politely take the time to answer any of your questions!

Alva Woo

Atmosphere was very nice and inviting. Very cute little cafe. The pastries all looked so good! I drove in from Calgary and have heard a lot about Duchess, so my expectations were pretty high. I tried all the macaron flavours. All of them had fantastic flavours... Not too dilute.. Not too strong. The downside was that the texture consistency wasn't the same across all the flavours... Not sure how fresh some of them were (mushy). The pastries we got were nothing too special.

Sarah Supernault

I’ve been coming to this bakery every couple of months for years. The quality has been amazing and consistent. I have never been disappointed with anything I’ve eaten here, you really can’t go wrong no matter what you pick. I would argue that this is the best bakery in the city.

veeo987

What an experience! Their pain au chocolat is amazing. Unfortunately, when I went there, their regular croissants were sold out. I'll definitely try to arrive early another day to taste their croissants. Their scones are also amazing.

Christopher Semenuk

Great place in Edmonton for pasteries, small sandwhiches and tea. Very nice atmosphere but always packed so make sure to come early. They sell out of items fairly quickly some days. Best to call in for a pickup order or online. Everything is tasty and some of the best french pasteries in the city. Macaroons are the best!

Katie Marner

Anytime I am in the area, I make sure to stop by Duchess. Everything tastes amazing. This is my favourite bakery in the city and they never disappoint. Service is always very friendly and it is such a nice atmosphere. The macaroons are my favourite but you can't go wrong with anything they offer here. I'll even go out of my way to stop by here just so I can get a bunch of macaroons to serve if I will be having company over.

Zaynab

Duchess bake shop will forever be my favourite cafe! They honestly have the best macaroons. I would highly recommend checking this cafe out.

Ronnie N.

I was so excited to visit this place after hearing such great things from people I knew. My friend brought me here for my birthday a few years ago. From my experience the place looked a lot nicer online. I got a box of macarons and wasn’t very amazed as I thought I would be. The tables were sticky and we had to find our own chairs as some tables were missing chairs because other customers were moving then around to other tables so they could sit with their friends. The glass of water they gave me was not clean. We left soon after. I wanted so badly to like this place but it wasn’t worth the hype.

Hana Yu

What can I say? It is Duchess! I got a nice selection of Duchess goods today, and they were delivered in a perfect condition. Each piece was a work of art! Beautiful both to the eyes and the tastebud. 1) Apricot early grey croissant 2) Raspberry dark chocolate shortbread 3) Rhubarb galette 4) Josephine tart 5) Grapefruit lavender tart 6) Duke cake 7) Brownie

Justin Ho

Wonderful experience second time here during the pandemic Macarons great souvenirs and also the award winning chocolates are delicious treats Also grabbed the cookbooks as gifts for friends and family Will come back!!

Jane Lieber

Picked up the most delicious treats this weekend for my work holiday party!!! Always 5/5

John Lomas

The Duchess is well set up for customer safety during this pandemic while still be able to provide good customer service. I felt very well looked after while discussing selection options with the staff. The offering look very good and I cannot wait until I get home to sample their wares.

Jacinthe Ly Dang

Delicious treats made with quality ingredients. Easily the best brownies and pastries in Edmonton. Sour cherry pie is excellent. You cannot go wrong with their frozen tourtière. They serve the Colombian for coffee, and it does not disappoint.

Marco R

nice place to get very nice desserts! good place to buy celebration cakes

Kenny Dai

You have to try their desserts and you won't be disappointed. Great shopping atmosphere! Very clean and looks very nice! Awesome gift for anyone! They package it super well.

Natalie Wilson

Pure excellence. Cannot recommend this highly enough. Best croissants and pastries outside of France!

Nigel Banks

Great baking - outstanding almond croissant

Joy C

Favorite French Bakery in Edmonton!!! So many options to choose from. Always something different daily. If you love desserts I recommend their cakes, croissants and bread pudding!! The bread pudding isn't traditional, which is what I love. Definitely a must try!! Even their macarons are delicious!! There are many flavors.
