Discovered this gem in courtenay. It’s my go to place for a coffee and lunch now. Order the Grateful Bowl, you can’t go wrong with that! The moka coffee was pretty good too. Great outdoor seating and very friendly staff. Vegan options ????????

I had the Buddha Bowl, and while it was delicious, I have a suggestion that I think would make it a 5 star, and I hope you agree. Have you thought of putting a sauce or dressing on it? It would elevate the flavor, in my opinion. I hope you at least think about my suggestion. Other than that, love the atmosphere & coffee and will return. And hopefully, you have given my suggestions some thought.

If you like really strong thick coffee, then this is the place for you. However I am not a fan and sadly that was the best part of our breakfast! I do not for the life of me know how this place gets 4.5 stars!!! We ordered the breakfast bowls and they were disgusting! Not much food, but the eggs were literally like rubber!! I have no idea how one even gets eggs to go like that! Completely inedible. And what we did eat, made both my wife and I have horrible stomach cramping for about half an hour! Don't do it!

Although I've never had the coffee's here, I often get varieties of the delicious bowls they offer. Glory and the Moroccan bowls are my favorite so far. So delicious. Without the need to get into great detail, I can assure a visit will not disappoint. The staff is warm, welcoming and friendly. The unique and comfortable atmosphere inside will certainly have you enjoying your visit.

Passable at best. Being an espresso junkie and connoisseur, I've tried every Americano that I can find in Courtenay and I would rate what Mudsharks has to offer as passable. If only rating the coffee, I'd give a three-star. But the food.... In more than a dozen visits while working in Courtenay, I failed to enjoy a single food option on the menu. Every baked good was a dry, underwhelming, inept attempt at gluten free. The breakfast tacos were simply bad--bland, dry, and disappointing. Mudsharks is worth the visit when nothing else is open.

Quite Good. I don't drink coffee, but I like their teas and tea lattes. Drinks vary a little bit depending on who's on bar. The oatmeal cookies are the best! I like that they are a more ethically-minded business; i.e., fair trade/ organic. The fact that they are family-run and local is a bonus

A shout out to Darryl, proprietor extraordinaire. My 80 yr old neighbor and bud is currently in the hospital with stage 4 Lymphoma. I travel for work but love my times with Tony when I'm around. The story of you heading up and bringing two styles of soup for him to try ( yeah he's got a finicky pallet, but it's endearing not annoying ????) free of charge and then spending the time to sit and chat brought a tear to my eyes. My husband and I came in for lunch and left very full, happy people:) the glory bowl is simple yet spectacular - I get it every time I go and am never disappointed. My husband likes to try out the 'special' (dietary restrictions permitting-usually not a problem) and is always stoked! We love the food at mudsharks and the very reasonable pricing... being vegan I tire of eating out in the Valley as I can make a better salad than most places and not pay near $20... but this is not the case here! Also the staff are very pleasant and their outside seating is lovely :)

Nice place but don’t take decaf or americano white. Ordered two large drip coffee, one decaf and one regular. When paying , I realized i was charged 9.01cad and was told decaf is an americano. When tasting the decaf , it was so bitter and weak we asked to change to regular, unfortunately they brought another americano and it was really weak. Likely they only put one shot of coffee. For 9cad, it felt really frustrating to have bad coffee. At least the drip was good but it left us with a bitter taste …literally and physically….

Great lunch at Mudsharks... high quality fresh food served up fast and fresh. We had the Mexican bowl and the black bean burger and they were both delicious. Great coffee here. I ordered some food though, the breakfast bowl, and it was really dissapointing. The portion was on the small side, the yams were hard, the cheese was puddled overtop of the eggs. The bowl used for serving was comically large relative to the yam bits, egg and melted cheese lurking in the bottom. The price of the food set too high of expectations. Really great coffee, I wouldn't order food here.

This place doesnt appear to enforce the mask mandate. Good food though! I had the banana buzz smoothie and a bagel breakfast sandwich and both were great. I realize that its challenging to make the employees at small coffee shops and restaurants enforce new rules so I sympathize with them but also it's kind of annoying seeing people walk in an order or go to the bathroom without a mask on.

Excited to be visiting Courtenay and this cafe seemed a cool place to eat - especially given the vegan options - and to have coffee. Boy, was I WRONG! First off, the staff were not friendly and we got big attitude from the tall guy with the man-bun. Secondly, the vegan Reuban sandwich was served on dry toast, with a very dry bean burger. So, dry. Yuck. My daughter's Breakfast Pizza (pizza = cheese, right?) was a piece of Naan bread, good sauce, and a weirdly squished and perfectly round egg in the middle with the tiniest amount of cheese - little shreds sprinkled around on the Naan. NOT pizza. C'mon. Finally, my daughter's iced chai was by far the worst either of us have ever tasted. Hoping to discover some decent cafes next time in Courtenay - I am sure they must exist.

Heard good things from family, Popped in after voting on the 11th, had one person in front of me and took 10 minutes for them to finish. waited over 15 minutes for my one coffee that was the wrong size and not what I ordered as far as I know drinks, as well as the sticky bun I asked for was forgotten to be charged and grabbed for me. (ordered a caramel maciaoto told that was fine then got a caramel latte). and then the only cash attendant got dragged away from the till and I couldn't get a fix as the line had already gotten 4 people long and I was running low on extra time.

I'm a regular customer at Mudsharks. The meals are great - personal favorite is the glory bowl. There are ample gluten free options, and they're conscious of vegan/alternative diets. The cafe has a comfortable atmosphere, kind staff, weekly live music, and local artwork on display. The patio is an excellent choice for summer seating!

Disappointing follow-up visit to Mudsharks - a pity because I can tell that they're trying to make it work. Coffee was lukewarm, not enough cream supplied for two coffees, so when I asked for two jugs of cream, I literally got two jugs each with a tiny shot of cream! My wife's dish required salt but even when I went back in and requested some salt, I was told that they didn't have any! My bagel with jam had one tiny plastic pack of jam, not enough for a full bagel. We probably wouldn't rush back there but may return to see if there are any improvements. Definitely disappointing!

Had an early breakfast there yesterday morning with my friend. I had a latte, and I have to say it was a very good latte indeed! My friend and I had the avocado breakfast wrap. It was good, although on the Bland Side, could have used a sauce of some sort although it did come with a side of a tomato type of salsa, which I don't really feel added to it. It actually tasted like it came out of a can or jar. I'm actually hoping it came out of a can or jar as I would feel as though I might be offending mudsharks if I found out that the tomato salsa is homemade. If that's the case they need to do a bit of work on it... all in all great coffee and a decent breakfast for a good price, especially if you get there before 9 a.m. as it was 50% off the meals.

Great little shop with gluten free and vegan treats to enjoy, delicious coffee, coffee products to buy, and a cute eclectic and beachy environment. Would recommend, and would go back again! It’s in a nice area of town to walk down to some shops with your coffee too, and there is some good, covered outdoor seating.

Delicious coffees and good variety of iced and hot drinks with like 5 dairy alternatives! Sometimes there's miscommunication between the cashier and barista, I've had to have my drink redone a few times I've been there (sweetener/milk incorrect - usually I'm not picky but it is for allergies)... however mudsharks is usually busy which is a good sign :) outdoor seating, nearby parking, covid protocol etc. Recommended: shot in the dark, blended anything, and their tumeric elixir!

My partner and I are new to the area and after some google searches and reading reviews we decided to treat ourselves to Mudsharks, a local favorite. When we arrived there were many customers outside enjoying the weather as it was a beautiful sunny day and we were looking forward to a nice lunch. We are both vegan and were intrigued as Mudsharks advertises that they have several plant based options to choose from. We ordered the grateful bowl, which consisted of rice noodles, spinach, carrots, red cabbage and peanut sauce, and the vegan reuben burger. My thai bowl was very basic. It was a bit watery (maybe due to the rice noodles?) with literally no sauce, flavor or seasoning. The burger was not much better. Again it was very basic with little flavor and the patty was very crumbly. Unfortunately we were quite disappointed with our meals. I can't understand why Mudsharks have such high reviews when they serve food that seriously lacks seasoning, interest or presentation. I give them two stars for trying and offering plant based options but we will unlikely dine here again.

If you come to Mudsharks early in the morning then you may be one of those fortunate to have a white chocolate raspberry scone fresh out of the oven. The white chocolate melts in your mouth and is a delicious offset to the tangy flavour of the raspberry. I have not been here in a long time, but I can't forget those white chocolate raspberry scones that I used to have in the morning.

Solid place to grab a coffee in Courtenay. Friendly staff and many options for gluten and dairy free. Their cinnamon buns are also to die for!

I really liked their plant based options. The oak milk cappuccino was amazing and the avocado toast was delicious. Only reason I’m reducing one star is because they only have two vegan options for food - Avocado toast or hummus. I’d love to see more options in the future.

I'm always happy to go here for a coffee as the staff are very nice and the coffee is very good. I did however have a bit of a hard time earlier today while waiting for food - ordered the salmon panini and I waited, 10 minutes later another gentleman ordered the same thing. I waited for awhile but was patient since it was very busy and I didn't mind, Although when the panini came out, they gave it to the other man waiting who had ordered after I did. I was a bit confused by that, and I mentioned to one of the employees that I had ordered that first. I wasn't about to get angry but I thought that after I mentioned that they would have apologized or given me the food. Instead they gave it to the other man and I had to wait another 10 minutes for my food. Other than this issue, I usually have a great experiance, the quality of the food and coffee are awesome!

First off coffee is fantastic. The brew 49th Parallel coffee and it is great. The staff is very friendly and the service is great. Wonderful outdoor siting area.

I really like this place. In the summer I have coffee on the patio shaded by trees. When the weather is inclement I go indoors and hunker down at one of the wooden tables. Either way the coffee is good, the service is excellent and friendly. Bruce owns the place and works behind the counter. For my money they serve the best tuna sandwich in town.

Decent lattes and coffee. Muffins were fairly greasy, and they ask diners to clear their own tables after dining - a pet peeve of mine, since it means no one ever gets around to cleaning the tables between visitors. Cute place, good people watching.

Best breakfast sandwich ever. We were visiting the area and I drove back the second day just to buy again for our breakfast. Apparently it's the chefs great grandmother's recipe. Great coffee and other fabulous looking baked goods all made in-house too. Def. worth the stop. ????????????????????

I often go here before my shift at the pizza place around the corner. I love supporting this place. The food is really good, there are tonnes of gluten free options available for most goodies, and I love the coffee (I always get a Mocha Frappe, no whip, dome lid). Best coffee in the area. Would recommend over Starbucks.

Mudsharks has recently stepped up their vegan game in a big way, no longer are they known just for great coffee. They regularly have vegan treats on hand as well as starting a special vegan dinner menu as well as hosting special vegan dinner nights to go eat great food and meet vegans in the area in a rare opportunity to get together. Mudsharks spearheaded this out of nowhere and for the delicious food alone I will always be thankful. I am excited to go more often for date night with my lady and discover more great food and maybe meet some local vegans. Thanks mudsharks!

Very friendly staff and delicious crafted coffees. They also have a variety of teas on offer as well as other beverages and baked goods. I have been in numerous times at different times of the day and it is always busy. Seating inside is limited but they have a large outside patio making it a popular spot for walking and cycling groups.
