So many delicious things to buy, so little time; infused olive oils and a variety of balsamic options are nearly irresistible, and competitively priced, plus a wide variety of chocolates, ice cream, and other treats. Doesn't cater to those with nut allergies (like myself) as much as some places, but definitely not a reason not to go!

The very best chocolate that I have ever had. I feel that the other companies do not even compare to there outstanding quality and taste. My favorite is the dark chocolate strawberry filled and the dark chocolate salted caramels. The selection of chocolate is incredible. They have a great selection of sugar free treats. The ice cream is delicious with lots of flavors to choose from. The staff are friendly and efficient. The store is always being updated and kept nice and clean. It is a very busy place, but you can always relax with a coffee or tea etc.. The owners are amazing people.

Always warm and inviting. This is one of my favorite spots to go in the Comox Valley. Today we enjoyed their large sticky caramel cinnamon buns with cappuccinos and both were delicious! Their chocolate is of a really high quality and their plain chocolate did not cause any problems for my celiac family member at Christmas. Hot Chocolates is also wheelchair accessible.

Nothing spectacular. Hot chocolate should taste like a chocolate, not like a cacao milk. I'm from Europe and I've been looking for a real choco taste n Canada for ages. The closest is French Press in Qualicum Beach. Still, hot chocolate originally is thick, heavy in dark chocolatie taste. The thin, light drink that this place offers will never bring me back.

I go in saying.... I will only buy 2 or 3.. and I end up leaving with 10 times that. Amazing chocolate and truffles. Definitely worth the stop and the price. The Umbra coffee is really good also. I've yet to find another place in BC with such good chocolate and truffles. So if your downtown in Courtenay it is worth stopping in, even if your wallet cries, its worth it.

We went for coffee and a snack. Everyone I was with had very nice baked treats along with coffee or hot chocolate but because of my dairy and soy allergies I was limited to one option. It was a nice raspberry merangue but because all their chocolate has soy in it I was limited to that or nothing. (They did have milk alternatives for your coffee beverages)

I received a gift certificate for Hot Chocolates. Now I'm hooked! I got organic spelt bread today, sliced thick. Went home and toasted it with some butter and homemade raspberry jam. Yummy! I also accidentally bought 2 date squares and 2 iced walnut cookies. Can't wait to have tea!!

Pretty much everything in Hot Chocolates tastes AMAZING! I go there every once in awhile to spoil myself or to buy a tasty gift. The only downside is their customer service. I use to buy the same drink every time I went there. One time the drink tasted wrong... /extremely/ strong. I couldn't drink it. I told the girl at the counter and her reply was, "Oh." With a blank, glazed over, stare. After an awkward pause I ordered the drink again. Paid again. The drink was normal the second time around. I wasn't sure what to expect, but maybe more than an apathetic, "Oh."

Wow!! I talked to Arlene to ask about a 'gift basket' I wanted delivered to a friend who needed a pick up. This friend had send a card and treats for my dog, so I thought it would be fun for my dog to recipricate with some 'treats'. I gave her the amt. I wanted to spend and just to choose whatever she wanted between baked goods and chocolate. Well, my friend called me laughing and laughing....saying that when the basket was received, there was a chocolate 'paw' enclosed with my dog's name written on it!!! Isn't THAT incredible!! I had not expected that at all. All the goodies looked great and that extra touch was exceptional customer service. Thanks so much again!!!!

THE stop in Downtown Courtenay. Hand-dipped truffles (who still does that?! Really!), housemade Italian-style Gelato (also Sorbetto), coffee bar, candy (Jelly Bellies anyone?!) AND a sister company 'Cakebread Artisan Bakery' in the same building. If you can't find a reason in all that to stop, come for the atmosphere. Relaxed but sophisticated, classy but comfortable and knowledgeable, friendly staff. When I can't come in (moved to Alberta), I ORDER ONLINE. That's right, a mainline to the best chocolate shop right at your fingertips. Or give them a call and they will deliver anything in the store (so Cakebread stuff too) from Cumberland to Campbell River. It's amazing. Perfect for special birthdays, clients etc. They really need to consider coming this way with a location - I have yet to find a store to rival their products and it would save their shipping department a ton of time LOL!

The drip coffee is very dark and not very good. I love drip coffee without cream and sugar so I can taste the coffee, but this is not the place for good coffee. The hot chocolate was OK. The sweet scones were OK.

I ordered a few things to be delivered to my Grandma in Courtenay and I can't express how grateful I am to the team at Hot Chocolates. Everything was wonderful - I ordered a sour dough bread, pecan bars, and a box of sea salt caramels (my grandma loves caramel) and she loved everything she received. Update: Around Xmas they changed the boxes they use and it appears the truffles and chocolates have gotten smaller. Still nice chocolates, but getting in the too expensive range. I haven't gone back since then. Great Chocolates. 5-stars. My comments are mainly applicable to the Truffles. I am used to dark chocolates with intense flavor, but these are more a creamy mild truffle. They do a good job with the flavors though. The prices are reasonable for the quality and size. I will definitely be going back.

Update: I sincerely appreciate that the store has kept masks mandatory for now to keep their staff and customers safe. The sign at the door is clear, and they have an alternate place to order if you don't wear a mask, so there's no reason to fuss if you can't be bothered to put a mask on for 2 minutes. The staff are always lovely and the bread is the best in town. For everyone so fussed about the increase in price in chocolates, they switched over to fair trade, ethically sourced chocolate a year ago, so you can rest assured that your chocolate is not associated with slave labour - totally worth the cost, in my opinion.

The bread is much better than the rennet toast quality that you often get in supermarkets, but the bread crusts were actually too hard for me, you couldn't call it crispy anymore. I found the price for an ice cream cone with 2 scoops $ 7.5 too high. (Original) Sehr schöne Gelegenheit einen guten Kaffee zu genießen oder eine belgische Schokolade. Etwas unruhig, da viel Laufkundschaft und wenig Sitzplätze, aber da muss man halt gelassen bleiben. Das Brot ist deutlich besser als die Labbertoast Qualität, die man oft in Supermärkten bekommt, mir waren die Brotkrusten aber tatsächlich eher zu hart, knusprig konnte man das nicht mehr nennen. Den Preis für eine Eiswaffel mit 2 Kugeln 7,5$ fand ich überhöht.

Coffee is good but the chocolates are what they're known for. For the price, they're amazing. Some of the best in the Valley. But they will ring you up a pretty buck. I always come here for the Iced Americano, and it's pretty tasty. The cakes and pasteries are good, but the gelato is second to none. Come here for the gelato, you won't be disappointed.

I'm french and moved here a few months ago. The Cakebread bakery is so far the only place we found in the Comox Valley to make croissants that are a match for those we had back in France. They are very tasty, with the right amount of butter and fluffiness. The chocolate croissants are also great but the sugar / cream on top of them are a bit too much.

Amazing bakery! So.much variety and soooo tasty, the chocolate, the pastry (we tried the apple poppyseed danish, and strawberries danish....it was heavenly). One of the best bakery ever!!!

They have recently halved the size of their chocolates, lowered the quality of their gift boxes, and the price is the same or higher. My family always gets their chocolates for Christmas because they were good quality, and while it was expensive, it was still worth it, and felt good to support a local business. Now that they have decided to rip us off this Christmas we will not be going back. It seems they have forgotten what their business is about... their customers!

Cake Bread and Hot Chocolate are a match made in heaven and are part of my weekly (sometimes daily??) routine. I'm not a regular review writer but this is one 'business' that I talk about often to petty much anyone who will listen. First of all the staff seem to be one happy family, so if it's not a great place to work they sure are good at faking it. They are always smiling and friendly and I often find myself talking to them and wishing there wasn't a person behind me so I could keep talking. The chocolates and hand packed ice cream on the Hot Chocolate side are exquisite and I have 5 or 6 must haves like the Berry Quartet and the Toffee Truffle. I find myself at the bakery every time I'm in town for a 'best ever' berry or chocolate berry scone - I would hate to know how many I have eaten. I can easily say that everything at the bakery is fabulous but their bread is the best - any where - including Europe. Ask someone how they came to be the amazing bread makers that they truly are. I tell every one what I think about their bread and they all enjoy it at our Christmas open house where among other things we cook a giant ham and serve it with a multitude of mustards and a dozen or more different loaves of Cake Bread bread - it's the best! I am reminded every season how much they look forward to the ham and bread. I'm sure there are other things they look forward too but I know the bread is really the draw. Check it out !! I have shopped here for over 10 years and while I will return to the bakery I will not be purchasing chocolates after the let down this holiday season. I found the truffles smaller in size, the chocolate was different and not as good a quality as in prior purchases and we found less variety in the choice of centers within the box as well as some that for my taste buds were down right nasty. I always purchase several boxes for hostess and Christmas gifts but won't be returning to this supplier. Sad...

I've been fortunate enough to sample the chocolates from Hot Chocolates on special occasions for many years. They are the best I've ever tasted. I've actively sought out other shops to sample from, but none have surpassed these. My favourite ones are the Majorca and the Berry Quartet. I also buy their flavoured syrups, which are extremely hard to find on the mainland, and have sampled their fudge and ice cream too. And since they've opened their bakery, Cakebread, I and my friends have enjoyed some of their yummy layer cakes as well. I live in the lower mainland and get over to the island several times a year. A stop at Hot Chocolates is always a part of each trip. And now not just for me. As I've introduced friends and co-workers to some of their delights I am now supplied with "shopping lists" before I head to the ferry each time. Please keep doing what you're doing. You're obviously extremely good at it.

We went in and had a great lunch and couldn't resist a little of there delicious chocolate too. In other posts they have mentioned they reduced their sizes to comply with industry standards, and now they have become just an industry standard. We came in the first time and bought a discounted sourdough loaf, which was tasty. The next time we came, we bought one fresh. Words can hardly express the deliciousness. While some bread is but a tool to deliver toppings to the mouth, with this bread, the role was reversed: we put on toppings just to have an excuse to eat the bread! I have no idea how the rest of their goods stack up, but can only imagine they're just as good. Service was prompt and with a genuine smile.

We have been coming to the spa for over15years and when we get here Hot Chocolates is one of our first stops. What a disappointment this year. I don't know if they are under new management but it just wasn't the same. The staff was still friendly but they were out of 3 things we asked for, the chocolates are smaller and the packaging is cheaper. We bought 2 cookies and the oatmeal raisin was delicious but the gingersnap was burnt. I don't know how they could even put it out. Hopefully it will be better next year!

What a surprise! I toured several local establishments as part of a group tour, and this place was busy without our group showing up. Family business. Staff were pleasant and the product selection was overwhelming. They produce all product themselves and the staff are very proud of their work. Definitely stop by grab a cocoa and one of their tasty sandwiches.
