Love how they are setup and how they treat kids. If you have a child 10 years or younger they get a free cookie from the bakery and there is a basket of fruit near the washrooms heading into the produce section that the kids can have. The customer service is also very friendly and the worker don't mind helping you to find what you are looking for.

Meat always fresh. Prices are less and less competitive. You can find the same stack of celery at half the price at Walmart and this apply to bread and other vegies. Only shop at Indepedent for meat, anything else is elsewhere as too pricey for exact same items. Wait time to pay is good.

Sept 11,20 Usualy have great produce..but the price to shop there for eaven just half of my list is much to expensive. So I just get items that I absolutely cant find fr competing GROCERY stores. Surprisingly ALL 9 Strawberry cartons I picked up had quite a bit of mold on them. ???? that doesn't happen often ..but still they were charging $2.49 for obvious molded strawberries.

Was the best grocery store in Cornwall for price, freshness and convenience. Employees reasons for striking and the noticeable price increase after raising minimum wage has resulted in choosing to go anywhere else. The pharmacy is awful with a poorly designed layout and staff that is often rude. Issues experience included closing early, staff members smoking in the parking lot, accusatory and belittling customer service and other pharmacies and doctors asking if staff is always this ignorant and difficult to deal with.

Worst customer service I have ever received. Was overcharged for chicken wings, went back, first response was well did you eat any sir....which doesn't matter as I'm not returning them, I want to refunded what yo overcharged me ($10). So after 30 minutes of trying to explain the right price (I literally had to take the girl over to section and show her the price). I was told all was solved, sent home with my refunded overcharge and a new box of wings. Get home, my BBQ wings turned into Honey Garlic. The manager didn't even want to hear what happened. I will never be back in this store again.

Advertised pork roast @.99 cents a pound but they didn’t say that the roasts were huge eg 15-20 lbs each.however you could buy small roasts @ 2 1/2 times the cost., just a different cut.I also have purchased their prime rib & strip loin steaks bone in or out when on sale & both were so tough I used them to make soup. They need to improve quality of meat if they expect people to like the product & return to shop. I will get my meat at Farm Boy from now on. The price is higher but the quality is of much higher standard.

extremely disappointed lately with the service here. there were 3 cashes blocked because the cashiers were waiting on price checks from departments where no one was available (clearly). I'm pretty unimpressed with the service, as I could have easily checked the price myself and shown the cashier in the amount of time that it took for myself to LEAVE without purchasing my price checked item. my shopping experiences amongst the Sobey's brands of stores in Ontario and Quebec is indescribably shitty honestly.

When the workers are not on strike, this is a great grocery store. They have delicious fresh food as soon as you walk in, and many options throughout the store. Never messy. Customer service is quick and efficient. Checkout workers are nice and will have conversation with you sometimes.

Ever since ownership changed hands several years ago, this grocery store has been in steady decline. Shelves are often empty, many common items being out of stock. This frequently includes items on special. Where many Independent Grocers and Lola's now stock "ugly" fruits and vegetables, produce that is excellent in quality but looks a bit off, I have yet to find any in Baxtrom's. In an area that has a lot of low-income folks, more affordable ugly produce would be helpful in providing fresh fruits and vegetables for all. Finally, service is hit and miss: many staff seem generally disinterested in providing service to customers. Cashiers find it more important to chat among themselves or, even worse, look bored and/or sullen.

It’s a great place. The strikes, however, are killing the business. I have crossed the picket line, which I know many people would object. The thing is, it’s a minimum wage job, and people still need groceries. Visited this store this afternoon with a return/exchange. I bought PC organic tomatoes at the independent grocer in Alexandria. Cornwall manager insisted that I could not return product from another store as they are independently owned. No where on the receipt does it state this, only that I have 14 days with original receipt. I can understand that this is their policy but customers do not know this and any return information should be indicated on the back of the receipt. I proceeded to inform the manager that I was there to spend $100 on groceries and in order to keep your customer happy and returning week after week good business would be to take the $5 loss for the tomatoes and gain $100 in new purchases. The manager did not see this point and so I took my business to Farm Boy across the road where I spent $140. Perhaps this store should re-train their managers to think critically and allow for good business decisions rather than turn a customer away unhappy and shopping elsewhere.

Everyone very polite and engaging. The lady working the bakery Wed. May 28th was very nice and did a great job with writing on a cake I picked out for my son's birthday. Check outs are marked very clearly eventhough a customer was pushing her way through people, but that is not because of the set up, just a rude person. Oh, and the store smelled delicious.

This grocery store has good selection on pantry and frozen items and often has good sales. I generally don't go here for produce because the selection and prices aren't as good as other stores. The prepared food section is excellent. The parking lot is often crowded and chaotic.

Their regular prices are higher than any other grocery store in town. If you're looking for something different you may find it there if it's not at the other stores. When they do have good sales on it's rare that you can actually get it before they run out because they don't have stock or it's only valid for 2 days instead of the whole week.

I actually live in Toronto, but come to visit friends every once and a while. The five star is for their Baxtrom's on site made Lasagna! It is the only brand of lasagna that we absolutely love, it has a great amount of meat and not soggy or wet like most lasagna's and quite tasty. Always end up buying a couple for my family and in-laws (who love it also) before coming back to Toronto. I recommend you give their lasagna a try if you haven't had it before!!!

Grab some Nelson chocolate milk. For my 2 and 4 year old. Didn't not realize it was 10 day expired till after my 2 year old drank it. Normal I check but was in a rush. Not happy with the female manager screening people at the door as she was very discriminatory against me who is disabled. From my understanding,, the hours between 7am and 8am are for seniors and those who need more time due to disability. As I stand outside waiting with others and finally get closer to get in, she asked me my age. I told her I was disabled. She continued to pry asking me what my disability was. I explained that I did not have to provide any information to her. Well that wasn't good enough, she called me aside in front of everyone wanting to know more about my disability giving examples like asthmatics, cancer patients ect. is what is meant by disability and who can go in. Talk about being the judge and jury. I explained that she isn't a doctor and that I was there to do my groceries and leave. She said that she would "allow" me to go in but would check on the rules. Wow!! First thing, when I mentioned I was disabled, that should have been good enough but no. Instead, she abused her position and made me feel like I wasn't human or worthy not to mention the embarrassing display of poor management. I don't understand how people with that type of mentality is in a position that she is in.

This Independent store is like Loblaws grocery store (of course) but here I am talking about the pricing. It's not like the Independent store on Montreal Road in Ottawa for example. They are of Shoppers Optimum PC family offering their customer service is great. The employee who served me was just amazing.

Watch the dates on their products. There have been several instances where I've come home and gone to eat something i just bought but it was expired and already turning. Anything "fresh" like the apple cider and other products should be looked at carefully for expiry and remaining quality. Additionally, they need to start handling their produce better. I've walked away from several produce items because there was clear indication that they were left in uncontrolled environments (hot in summer, cold in winter). Over all not a great grocery store, the only thing they have going for them is the pre-made section. The minute I find another store that stocks the coffee i like, that will be the last time i go to this store I could seriously keep going with another 5 negative points no problem but i think you get the idea.

Expensive for day to day items as others have noted, but one should know that before going in. They do have products nobody else carries, so that is good. But the cashier I dealt with two days ago was not only clueless about payment methods I could use, she was also rude. Not something I expect in a supposedly "higher end" store Inependent, I think, likes to be.

Love this store. In my honest opinion, the only grocery store in town. The staff is always helpfull and Jessie is always available to help out when he's working. The only thing I noticed lately is that there is items that use to be available and is no longer. We went to pick up a few items on Saturday, but had to go to a another store to get what we wanted. We picked up maybe 8 or 9 items and went to Fresco for 4 items Baxtrom's did not have.

The store was clean and busy. I hoping to be in and out but I had trouble finding a specific item. The first store employee I found and asked where the item was said "I do not know. I work in a different area of the store" and she turned and left. The 2nd lady I asked sent in the wrong area all together. I was so upset with the lack of assistance from both these women. Next I asked a man stocking a shelf and he actually got off the ladder and asked me to follow him. He took me right to it and was so polite an cheery. I wish I had asked his name. I was ready to leave my cart of groceries and leave the store until I saw this gentelman and decided to give it one more try. Thank Goodness.
