absolutely amazing this place. the croissant (pâtes d'amandes) is to die for. all the other ones are so good too(chocolatine, croissant, the apple one...) fresh every day. also try gaels homemade tourtiere and pies... wow.

These were the best croissants I've had in years. They were also the best croissants I had during my trip to Montreal & Quebec. The croissants here were so flaky & buttery. The apple & almond croissants were subtly sweet, not overbearingly so like in the other pastry shops & cafes I tried during my visit.

I don't know anything about cake and I was told ok I'm going to make buttercream. It was totally lacking in taste! A cake bought at the local grocery store would probably have been better. Pity! (Original) Tellement déçu!!! J'avais lu de bon commentaire mais je suis déçu. J'y suis allé pour demander un gâteau blanc avec crémage blanc (c'est plate mais c'est comme ca que ma mère aime). Je ne connaît rien au gâteau et on m'a dit ok je vais faire un cremage au beurre. Ça manquait totalement de goût! Un gâteau acheté a l'épicerie du coin aurait probablement été meilleure. Dommage!

M. Gaël, the proprietor, was the head pastry maker at one of Montréal's best local pastry chains before leaving to set up on his own. This is *the* place to go for fine artisanal croissants, tarts and cakes that can match the best in the region. Don't overlook some of the non-baked goods he stocks: for example, the jam is an inspiration. If its a weekend and you're lucky, his daughters (maybe 10 yrs old?) will fight for the chance to ring up your purchase. Perfectly charming.

No more CHEZ GAEL .......A very dry pumpkin pie: we purchased a "fresh" pumpkin pie on Saturday October 6th for thanksgiving dinner on Sunday. I cut one piece and served it to my husband, on the first bite he commented that it was dry and lacking flavour, I was of the same opinion. We decided to package it and return it, however the bakery was closed on Monday when I arrived there (even though the owner was inside and looked at me standing there with the pie in hand, he did not offer to open the door) When I called on Tuesday he basically said " It is impossible, I have tasted it myself, and other people have told me it is fine, I can do nothing for you" "Goodbye" Whatever happened to customer service ??? no more CHEZ GAEL BAKERY !!!

I have picked up a multigrain baguette here a few times and theirs are my favourite. This last time, during COVID they did not have any but suggested I take a frozen one which only needs 5 more minutes at 400 F. OMG, we had this hot with butter along side a julienne salad and it was heaven. Think I will always ask for a frozen one and keep it in my freezer ! And I grabbed an eclair when I was there that blew my socks off, and I know my pastries! Thanks Gael
