Such an inviting place! We were on vacation and everywhere we went was costing an arm and a leg for just "okay" food. We stumbled upon this place and it's got amazing prices and it's the best food we had on the island! Oh and best pancakes I've ever eaten !

I don't know what I could say about this restaurant and bakery except that it's fabulous! Every year that we visit PEI, we eat here and everything that we've tried has been delicious. This year, we had the haddock dinner. The fish was fresh and lightly battered. Of course, the obligatory French fries and coke slaw were present. The baked goods are worth buying, no matter what you're looking for. I love their cinnamon rolls as they have some brown sugar instead of all white in the filling. Their biscuits are so big and fluffy that you can cut them in thirds. Lots of cookie, bread and roll choices. It's definitely a place to stop and enjoy.

This place was recommended by someone who worked at the campground we stayed at. We arrived and it was quite busy. Stood for a few minutes and waited to see if we would be greeted, which we were not. We decided to sit down at one of the only empty tables, which hadn't been cleaned yet. We cleared it ourselves, waited 15 minutes before a waitress came to give us a menu. She did not wipe our table or anything, and meanwhile three groups of people who had arrived after we did had already received their food. We ordered without looking at the menu (menu is up on the wall). She brought our drinks pretty quickly. The food took forever. Another 30 minutes and several tables who had come and gone and we received out order, which did not include our daughter's food. She realized she'd forgotten to put her order in at that point but did not say so. Instead she told us it would be another minute for the pancakes. The toast was buttered cold, eggs and beans were cold and dry. Several minutes later and she said it would "just be another few seconds for the pancakes". We fed our daughter off our plates as we waited and watched several more orders being served to other customers, including pancakes. A full hour and 15 minutes since we'd first sat down and our daughter's pancakes arrived, after we'd all long since finished. She offered a take out container but we said no we'd eat them there. I will say that the food may have been much better had it all been warm and served in a timely manner. The service in general was disorganized and slow.

I would have used to rate By the River Bakery a full 5 stars but when I was there 2 days ago I was very disappointed. The cookies had no flavor, most things seemed to go down in size and nothing seemed fresh. Honestly, I think the bakers have lost their confidence since the whole thing about the rats and stuff when the health inspectors came in. But I know that the bakers can do better. I will continue to give them another chance. Update: I'm done giving them a chance.

Stopped in here on our way to Charlottetown. Great portions size for breakfast, staff was very friendly and attentive and their baked good were terrific. Ginger sparkle cookies and cinnamon buns were our favourites. Great coffee

Out and about site seeing for the day and my wife happened to find this little gem along our route. Glad we stopped. We ordered haddock and chips as well as a roast beef sandwich. The fish was super tasty. Very lightly breaded and fried, super moist and tasty. The fries were great. The Roast Beef sandwich was served on homemade bread that tasted like it was made today (pretty sure it was) with home cooked and sliced roast beef. Super happy to have found this little road side stop along our travels.

Great selection of authentic, delicious food. The baked goods are wonderful as well. Flexible with food allergies; no problems with swapping out something that would be a problem with another item. Bathrooms are clean. The deck on the river is really nice, lots of light. Very cozy feeling!

We stopped in on a rainy Saturday morning for an early breakfast (not much open at 7:30 AM. The diner is small and therefor cozy. A very warm welcome that instantly come with coffee. The menu is on the wall and is fairly standard, no big surprises and no fancy-dancy things. Very standard. The food is good, well and properly prepared but again nothing fancy. The portion is good and I could t finish mine and my wife had the 1/2 breakfast and it was too much for her. The price is right at <$10 for the full (deluxe) breakfast. $18 for both of us with coffee. If you want food it is here, if you want more than that, well try the lunch menu. The backed good looked very nice and we’re certainly hand, if not home, made. The local folks stop in and seem to be regular (they know there coffee wants).

Excellent place, clean and cozy. They have an indoor an outdoor seating area. The server was friendly and the food was good. We had the breakfast special, grilled cheese sandwich and chocolate chip pancakes. The pancakes were big and delicious. Prices are reasonable and equivalent to a fast food joint but with more food.

Got Cheese burger with onion rings and chicken strip with frys. Coleslaw came with both, and it was not good you could tell it was not freshly made. Cheese burger and onion rings was good. Chicken strips were good, frys needed salt but were cooked just right. I loved my server hes great. Shame on management for just updating the prices on the board and should have the staff memorizing new changes before putting on any menu or board. Any price change you should have new menus already printed and ready to go and they did not. Server was not trained on new prices. Management defiantly needs work on perparing for changes made!!

Nothing fancy, but we love it. We discovered it about 7 years ago when we first moved to PEI and had no internet at our house. It is friendly and inexpensive. My husand loves the all day breakfasts and I love the blueberry pancakes.

Horrible service. Owner came raising her voice and moving tables while I was in the middle of an important call she knew I was going to be taking to move me to make space for other customers -- noted: we were two paying customers who had had full meals there, and checked before coming on that it would be ok for me to be on a call after. Food was average at best and I am shocked anywhere would provide such terrible service.
