Three Stars as ....some good, some not. The good....bakery has consistently friendly, helpful staff and their organic breads are particularly good. Other excellent staff who are always helpful and pleasant include cashiers: Presley, Ha, Cheyanne, Nadine and Brenda (with light blonde hair).All are super nice and real assets to the overall impression of the store. Ryan in the deli and other deli workers, also helpful and friendly. The negatives....some of the customer service staff and cashiers are real "OLD BAGS" ! Crabby, argumentative....giving anything but a good impression of the store overall. For example, today (October 11 around 2 pm) at the customer service desk a VERY rude woman (dark blonde hair, glasses, covered in arm tattoos, very thin and scrawny.....gave me a real " going over" as I made the " mistake" of choosing her to ask about some missing air miles . I was so shocked by her attitude that I told her to "stop snapping at me". Her workmate (heavy set with dark hair) then proceeded to have quite a chuckle about the whole confrontation. I was not impressed. I had heard from other people about some of the crabby, older women working there, usually with no name tags on, these two at the service desk today certainly fit that category! There is also a very rude guy in the fish department named Derrick. Again,I was told about him by another customer. He is a real jackass! Rude and crude. The other negative,... prices overall are too high, compared to other local grocery stores. But they do have better organic produce and bakery items, so that has kept us coming back for smaller shopping trips. But after today's fiasco at their service desk, we won't be back as often. A few " bad apples" really can spoil the overall impression of a store, faster than anything.????

Clean store, smaller but has most things. Not as cheap as other chains of grocery stores. Does give a 3 cents off for bringing your own bag. Decent bulk section. They were entirely out of garlic bread which is why only 4 stars.

One visit will display the professionalism and kindness. [I am a daily pickup Patient and have been for 9 weeks or so] and have had nowhere near similar treatment anywhere else.. quite the opposite. While the name is deceptive as the prices are consistently higher than the same item (brand and size) at other stores like Country Grocer Thrifty doesn't skimp on quality. I know I'll get high quality items every time here. Pay more, yes. But some goods aren't worth paying less for lower quality in my opinion. The staff is awesome and customer service is fantastic.

Thrifty food has its ups and downs in prices and keeping up with the ever-growing giant that is Quality Foods and Country Grocers, but they do it well. Clean atmosphere, friendly staff, and fresh foods; I continue to shop there frequently for most things. And when meat is on sale...sometimes its REALLY on sale! Those are good days.

And I wish I could attach a pic of this, didn't realize till I got home that the banana on the bottom of the bunch was sooo rotten and covered in thick white and red mold, I've never seen anything the likes of it. I dont know what happened, but this thriftys went really down hill.

Avoid like the plague. Stopped in on my way to the ferry on Friday to get supplies in for the weekend as we weren't sure how far it might be to a supermarket from our next campsite. Friday was June 23rd. Went to cook the sausages this morning...use by date June 18th. Checked the turkey breasts I bought at the same time, same use by date. They had food on their shelves that could cause serious sickness if not properly handled that was five, yep FIVE days past it's use by date. If I knew how to get in contact with the appropriate authorities I'd do it straight away. AVOID.

I like that I can quickly stop in and grab groceries rarely a line up . If you shop the flyers prices are good, if not they can be a bit high but meat and produce are great quality. Island Farms is the best for dairy by far !

Great Bakery: bought a custom order carrot cake for a 50th birthday and they even put a photo on the cream cheese icing for me, which I emailed in. Cake was delicious and was a hit at the party - my friends were impressed with how it looked and tasted. Staff were all very polite and helpful. It cost less than what I was verbally quoted even though I was prepared to pay that price as it was worth it. I highly recommend this service at Thrifty's!

Well, I am always a fan of Thrifty Foods even if I cannot afford it. In my growing up home neighborhood, I got a job at the local Thrifty Foods. Every one was very happy to be there, both customers and staff alike. My visit the other day was memorable only in the fact I noticed all the staff were very well groomed and were mighty white. I also noticed the middle-aged lady cashier was a new employee. One thing I can positively say about Thrifty Foods is that they always employ local. And they focus on customer service. The old slogan used to be "The Smile's in the bag for You!" Back when bags were free.

Was my regular grocery store for a few years, but this year I bought too much expired product including a molding cheese, and while 8 months pregnant I found a large piece of sharp metal in an apple I'd bought. Returned it to the store and complained to the store for safety reasons, I was lucky to have noticed it. They said sorry and that they would report it but with such a close call they certainly lost my trust after years of shopping there.

If you are looking for quality selection in a reasonable sized store this is the place to shop. They have very experienced staff members, and they show it by being kind and helpful. They have a great parking lot, a nice big spacey store, and items are easy to find, and their custom service area is very nice, and they also have a BMO cash machine at the front inside of the store, right by their customer service desk. This is a great Thrithy Foods store to shop at! The atmosphere is very nice.

The staff and security guard are friendly and nice. They make a delicious chicken soup as well as stellar salsa. I like how they offer instead of just a whole chicken(which is also delicious) they have just a breast it makes a yummy lunch snack. Some of the prices are a little pricey but some things only found here are worth it.

I've always been a fan of Thrifty's and this location doesn't disappoint. Same friendly service, great selection of produce, flowers, meats, veg, and specialty products, but unfortunately a bit cramped in this location. Their home delivery is exceptional - deliveries are done by the same person all week who is polite, effective and very helpful. They even mark the frozen bags or meat so you know what to put away first.

I usually have a good experience with this store, however. I shop here often, and needed a couple of boxes. When I asked them there were at least 2 doz stacked against the wall., and they told me they had none, then I wanted to buy some spanikopitas, and there were none, when I went to pay for my items, the teller didn't wash down the belt once. There was 4 people before me. The belt looked very dirty. . I was disappointed this trip

Spread out in different parts of the store from produce, to organic! They have a bakery to a butcher, from seafood to kabobs! The only thing I didn't see was a sanitizer station! They even have a pharmacy in store! Plus you can bring your bottle recyclables in store! They carry ice to even something for the home gardener! Noticed the person who was picking up the buggies, sanitizing with the same cloth, that wouldn't help much! You're passing the germs from one cart to the next!

I am very disappointed that the Ryan Road Thrifties in Courtenay allows people into the store who are not wearing masks. On a large, hard-to-miss sign at the front door it clearly states that masks are mandatory. Yet the able-bodied female in a 40-something couple was allowed to freely walk around the store and shop. She didn't appear to suffer from a mitigating handicap, but if she did there's also no reason why her partner couldn't have shopped for her. And if all of this is wrong and she did need to be in the store, Thrifties needs to clearly signal that customers like these have been exempted from wearing a mask. At the very least, it would reassure customers like me that the rules were being respected. I shop at 7pm or later to avoid this kind of confusion as I feel extremely uncomfortable by people choosing to ignore the mandatory masking rules. At the checkout, I asked the polite young cashier to confirm the store's mask-wearing policy which she did. However, the cashier also told me that while it is mandatory to wear a mask the policy is not enforced. She said that a previous encounter between a manager and a person not wearing a mask had "not gone well" and they no longer intervene if someone chooses not to wear one. It's hard to believe that this is how the Thrifties on Ryan Road "enforces" its mandatory rules. After all, enforcing mandatory rules is an important part of Thrifties business model: no-one is allowed to get away with shoplifting for example. I would have thought the same vigilance would apply to rules aimed at protecting the public's health, well-being and safety during a pandemic. This is not the first time I have been to Thrifties and seen customers without masks on. However, the recent exponential growth of COVID and its variants across the province means that we need to be more vigilant than ever. Thrifties plays an important leadership role in our community. It seems to me that this is the time to lead, even if it makes a few people unhappy. If Thrifties provides me with an explanation that satisfactorily addresses the above I would be willing to consider changing my rating. Thanks. Ian

Called at 9am on tuesday morning to have flowers delivered that day. I was told they couldn't be delivered until the next day(Wednesday), even though the automated message says orders placed before 2pm are delivered same day. Ok, that's fine. Flowers didn't arrive until 5pm on Thursday. I worked in a flower shop for years, and that is totally unacceptable. If there was a delivery issue, they should have called to inform me they were not going to be able to fill the order when they said they would. They had my contact info. If I had known the flowers would arrive 2 days later than I wanted, I would have shopped somewhere else. In the past, I've always had great flowers and service from the floral department at Thriftys, but that is the last time I spend my money there.
