I had a very hard time choosing one thing when I could have had just about anything. I picked out the apple strudel. There was just the right proportion of cooked apple "sauce", whole apple chunks, and raisins and perfect amount of spice. Dough was good and not soggy -- good bakery overall. -- "Mimi's Cake Tour"

Unfortunately our last experience there was subpar. We bought a chocolate mousse cake and upon serving it two hours later, we discovered that the cake wasn't fresh, but was frozen. Upon calling, they told us that the cakes are often frozen before sale. No refund was offered. We are disappointed and given the price points expected more.

I go to Rustic about once a week for a quick lunch. The service is amazing! The girl... I believe her name is Paige... sees me come in and (as I am predictable) - grabs my fave croissant and warms it up without me even asking. They treat their regulars really well and their Spinach feta croissant is DELICOUS. Prices are excellent and they have a huge selection of things to try.

Turkey and Cheese sausage roll was great! Gingerbread man cookie was good. Hazelnut horn thingy was good! The bread crumb bag leaked everywhere. The sourdough rye bread was not very good unfortunately. It seemed doughy and dense and was almost cold and wet inside and she sliced it without asking me. I did not want it sliced. Thank you very much but I will be sticking with the bakeries i already know and love. Take care!

What a wonderful place. JC was super friendly, knowledgeable, and just happy being at this place. This truly showed value in their business, all products are healthier then grocery stores. And meats are locally sourced as well they have sausages, bacon, cold cut meats as well as in house made items. Prices are great for the fact its all made in house (bread, cooked items) deserts all looked great as well just didn't purchase it. Please check this place and out and give them business they do deserve it. ????

We had never been before and we were looking forward to trying it out. Unfortunately it seemed like the staff didn't want to be there or didn't want to answer questions... not sure what the resistance was but it was off putting. During covid times we really make an effort to shop and support local... businesses are hurting out there but it's unlikely we would go back.

Unfortunately some of the items we picked up this morning were still cold in the middle from being frozen. I expect freshly baked items from a local bakery, and was disappointed to find some of our items still cold in the middle. For the price you pay, I wouldn’t recommend. Flavor was good, just wish it was fresh.

Lovely little European style bakery/deli in a great location on 17th Ave. Excellent selection of artisan loafs, fresh pastries, cookies, pound cakes and tortes. There's clearly some very talented bakers working diligently behind the scenes. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Deli is well stocked with a variety of meats and fine European cheeses. Definitely worth checking out.

Best rye bread in the city, possibly all of Canada. One of the true artisan bakeries that are so hard to find. Parking at the back of building is free, don’t park on 17th if you don’t want to pay. Europeans will enjoy this place without question.

Short bread almond cookie and their take on it specifically, are outstanding. The mini cinnamon swirl cookie, equally good. And my least favorite was the vanilla short bread, but I kept nibbling on it and Anywho, I soon realized just how good it also was. There it is. Imo.

When Günther's Fine Baking closed in the the NE, this was the next best thing I could find for German Style bread. My family is very choosy about bread quality and authentic German style is rare. Buying it fresh here greatly surpasses buying it 2-day old at Edelweiß Village. Parking is street/pay only but the quality and friendly service is worth it.

Have done shopping here several times including several birthdays cakes and got good results all the time. A bit over-priced though which makes me plan for my trips to them with bigger than usual gaps!

There is a wide variety of bakery and pastry products to choose. Their croissants were amazing. Crispy outside and soft inside. Apple strudel was not too sweet with decently tart filling. The price was really cheap as an local, non-chain bakery. Will come back definitely.

Terrible customer service. I waited 20 minutes for service with only 1 other customer in the store. Wasn’t said hello to or anything. They let the other customer pay with tap but refused to let me. So I waited for 20 minutes, watched them let someone pay with tap, was told I’m not able to pay with tap, and wasn’t able to purchase what I wanted.

Be very carefuly, check your recipt very carefully. They like to overcharge, by adding non purchased products or making mistakes in their favor. It happened 3 times to me, at the delly and bakery side. Just be careful.

We had a couple of fantastic pastries here. The deli section and sandwiches remind me of Germany. There was good coffee and a table to relax and hide from cold weather. I am sorry this isn't my home town so that I could come in every week.

Highly recommend to give this bakery a try. The owner and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about heir products. Their custard cream for their cakes is perfect not too sweet and creamy. They offer a variety of products from imported goods, cheese and fresh baked goods. Bonus: they offer samples!

If you like European style bread, you will love the many varieties of bread baked by this bakery. Some of my favourites are: 50% Rye, Cranberry Pecan (25% Rye), Marble Rye, San Francisco Sourdough, Rustic Whole Grain, and many more. The baked desserts are fabulous treats! I really enjoy the fruit flan, the pound cakes, the vanilla buttercream torte, as well as the pastries, fruit-filled turnovers, and more. I’ve been buying all my bread and their desserts for more than eight years now, ever since a good friend introduced me to it. I highly recommend a trip to this bakery if you’ve never visited it! NB: There is free parking behind the building and meter parking on the street.

This is my go-to place when I want to bring treats to the office (prices are reasonable and the many varieties of cookies and coffee cakes are always a huge hit), but everything I've tried there is amazing (most recently the cheesecake tarts and carrot cake -- best ever). 17th avenue/inner city has had a lot of excellent bakeries grace us in the last few years, but you can always count on this long-time gem.

Best bread in town, especially the whole wheat. Perfect crust, a bit crunchy, and chewy. Light moist texture to the bread itself. Freezes well, especially if frozen when fresh. Not sliced until bought, for extra freshness. I' m not even usually much of a bread eater but I drive some distance to stock up once in awhile.

My wife purchased Christmas Cookies, which they called "exceptional selection of handcrafted cookies" (about 20 small cookies for $19.95 !!!) loaded with food coloring (blue was missing) and perhaps other ingredients not specifically listed. Please do not consider this to be any representation of "x-mas cookies" from the old world. It is just a very expensive joke, perhaps you will get one of this for free with your coffee and smile in European café, hopefully no colour added. The whole box is total disappointment and many times overpriced.

I love this place and we get our 6 birthday cakes here quite frequently. I am not sure why it is so upsetting to the girls that I called ahead to make sure the cake is ready for pickup. Perhaps better training for your staff. I guess the next three bday cakes this year will go somewhere else. The Black Forest roll cakes are really good though! I will miss them!

I love this place until my last visit. I stop by at least twice a month when I am in Calgary.The last time I was there the assistant in the bakery dept treated me like I was there to steal. I had an order from the bakery and wished to add more from the deli side, I requested a receipt so I could pay for the complete order at once, but as I was shopping in the deli side I noticed I was shadowed by the bakery counter girl, this continued until I payed for my complete purchase. This is not customer service but profiling, next time I desire a good corned beef and rye sandwich I will go elsewhere.

Their cakes are perfect for birthdays; I've been purchasing them for years and there's nowhere in Calgary that's comparable! Went into to buy some pastries and fresh bread. The staff working here are quite rude and short. The bread was just mediocre and I’ve had better pastries from the supermarket. Save your $$$ and go somewhere else.

The freshest, healthiest, and tastiest bread in Calgary. The berry and peach tarts are flavorful without being too sweet. The cheese danishes are so yummy fresh out of the oven. My family has been going here since the 80s when it was called The Chalet German bakery. Some menu items have changed but the quality has stayed the same.

Just some feedback for owners. I work 9 to 5 weekdays and I rarely end up making it to the bakery. 5pm on Saturday is an early close which I often miss, and then you are closed Sunday as well. I end up going to Cobb more often even though their bread is inferior purely cause they are open more.

Google says they’re open on Sunday which I guess they aren’t. Also upon asking, they use yeast in all of their sourdough so technically it’s not sourdough? Not sure why it’s named that way if nothing is made using proper sourdough techniques.

Super cute inside and smells so good! The treats look amazing but their looks are superior to their taste, a bit disappointed with the bread and treats we bought. Service was nice and fast. They still German goods there which was really cool! One half of the store is a bakery and the other half a sandwich shop where you can get a sandwich or buy meats and cheeses. Pricing is not too bad considering location.

I decided to try this bakery as the Cobs in Signal Hill which is the bakery that I frequent was closed for renovations. I purchased a hearty grainy bread, a Muesli bread, a Cranberry pound cake and a apple danish. It was disappointing. The breads and pound cake were dry and the taste was below average. I didn't think after the first bite of each that it was good. The Cranberry pound cake was dry and when I sliced it there were no cranberries. The apple danish was fine though. The reason that I am giving it two stars instead of one was that the service was good
