Here you will see the opinions of real people who purchase the services and products of Manuel Latruwe (Bakery) in Calgary (Canada).
At the moment the business gets a rating of 4.4 stars out of 5 and this score has been based on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that the average of ratings is really high, and it's founded on a very high number of feddbacks, so we can think that the evaluation is quite reliable. If there are many people who bothered to value when they are satisfied with the service, it works.
You know that we do not usually stop to set scores when they are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...

Awesome place for baked goods. Yummy!! Don’t miss this one
I love the almond croissants and fresh oj here. Yum.
Manuel Latruwe has the prettiest desserts in town. From the single serving sized to the full sized cakes, to the thaw and bake pastries - you can't go wrong! The quiche is fabulous too!!
Amazing place to star your day with a cup of coffee. Nice and clean environment. Their coffee is also amazing
We had a mochachino here and it was pretty good, we got Belgian waffle as well as potatoes, eggs, and bacon for breakfast. Belgian waffle was decent, not the best but not bad. Potatoes, eggs, and bacon were pretty good.
Used to be my go to for their delicious Praline cake. However, I called and had an individual size praline cake put aside for me. When i got there, I realized that they have changed their menu - the individual praline cake is now half the size and poorly decorated. It's a 2 bite small entremet for $7.50 + tax. I was extremely disappointed and will not go back. Please revert back to the old pastries, or charge less for your half individual sizes! Picture from left to right - Old praline (double the size ) with delicious macaron shells, then the new one!
This is creme de la creme of patisseries or bakeries in town. A must visit if you have never been and an overdue visit if you have. Besides exquisite desserts and baked goodies, the frozen, ready-to-bake croissants and pain de chocolat are a magical process and always come out of the oven perfect.
Everything is great. Almond croissants are my fav.
Their French toast is to die. Definitely recommend going there for breakfast. They have a wide varieties of bread choices and baked good as well as pastries and cakes. They also provide frozen food to take home and bake. Love this place!
Best sourdough bread in the entire city.
Well... I like to think I'm a croissant connoisseur. Travelling the world, in part, for exceptional croissant experiences. So maybe it's just me. I found their plain butter croissants thoroughly mediocre. That - you can bank on. Maybe their other offerings are better.
Such wasted potential The cakes are light, soft, and rich when you want them to be. But this shop is the best example were "you let the success get to you". What holds so much promise for lovely afternoon lunch, or romantic tasting with a new friend; loss it's charm in the service. In plain words, the service is "passive aggressive".
I can not adequately describe how amazing the pastry is, suffice it to say, it has ruined all other pastries for me. The coffee is excellent as well. Great experience.
Eating fresh made is great, but grab some frozen, ready-to-bake cinnamon buns and croissants. You will impress yourself by how civilized and delicious your breakfast is.
I’ve been in this place twice. It was rather a good experience the first time. I got the blueberry and the apricot pastry and they were very delicious. The second time I was there- I came around 9 am hoping for the freshly baked chocolate croissants. When I came in I was excited to see plenty of chocolate croissants available. The lady cashier said they were freshly baked in the morning. (I double checked just to make sure). How big my disappointment was! They were not fresh at all and pretty mediocre taste too. I guess I’m more upset that the lady lied to me than the actual taste of croissants.
They have the best baked goods and baguette sandwiches. The servers are extremely polite and nice.
Unfortunately a year ago this place was the best. They recently changed the way they make their croissants which is a disappointment. They used to have the best in the city with marzipan flowing through the almond croissants and the flakiness of the pastry being second to none. Since the change, they've just average. Unfortunate change considering marzipan is cheap to make. Could have charged an extra 0.5$ to make up the difference per croissant.
Very good fresh bread and sandwiches, pricey cookies, could be good place for healthy lunch and coffee, but usually you will see dirty dishes on tables and you will need to ask to clean one where you want to seat. This may take some time and table will be sprayed and left wet so you will need to wipe it dry by napkins yourself or seat at a wet table if this is OK with you. Preparing a simple sandwich may also take a while. After going to this café for lunch 2-3 times a week within past year decided to look for alternative place. May check back in 3-6 months to see if it changed for better.
Fresh, authentic, pleasant customer care. Gorgeous, artistic presentation and endless options. We were in the mood for some lovely croissants and these were fabulous- crispy flaky outer, soft, airy, center. Definitely transports the consumer back to Europe -this is love!
THE BEST croissant pastry I've ever had. I highly recommend the take and bake from their freezer as well. Beautiful french pastries! I love walking up to the door in the mornings as you can smell the delightful buttery pastry :) Merci! xoxo
It's a great place. All their baked goods are amazing and their coffee is pretty good as well. The prices are a little high, but you get what you pay for. Will be going back
Absolutely delicious desserts and pastry. Highly recommended!
Pastries and bread are delicious! I love their croissants and baguette. Staff are friendly and helpful. Prices are a wee bit high, but worth it for an occasional treat.
Free 90-minute parking! My tomato bocconcini quiche was good. I also tried the side salad, leek quiche, and cafe latte. Their cakes looked delicious and shiny in the display case. The person I came with said he felt like he was back in France. There were also French speaking workers and customers there.
Excellent food and baked goods especially the double baked bread ($6)crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside - the pastries are an absolute work of art - average price was 5 -7.50 each. Parking in the parking lot out front has never been a problem. Sitting area if you can't wait to enjoy your purchase.
Very good croissants! Buttery and flaky and tasty!! Super impressed with the blueberry/almond/apricot as I’ve had them. Wasn’t really impressed with their pain au chocolate, still good but not as good as the others. Will come back again for more :)
Good macarons; maybe a bit expensive compared to its competition.
Coffee is good. Sandwiches are subtly delicious. The pastries are even better textures and mouth feel 10/10. Surprisingly its also reasonably priced
Their delicious croissant I tried was amazing. Great presentation too.
I've only tried the cakes, and they are delicious and you can taste how good the quality of ingredients.. it will leave your taste buds really happy :))) and whenever you'll pass by, they will lead you inside the to get another cake
I love this place. Great service and excelent food. I highly recommend. They have cinnamon buns, loafs, desserts amazing pavlova and merveilleux, quiche, gourmet ice cream, macarons....❤ and the best croissants ever.
A one star means I wouldn't go back or recommend while a 5 means I would go back every chance I get. This place was such a wonderful start to the day. Their cappuccino was phenomenal and the croquet madame was unique and delicious. My one complaint was that everything was too salty for my taste. It was only mildly unpleasant but the quality of the food still ensured my plate was clean. If you are interested in something sweet check out their display case. The staff were also very pleasant.
Lovely pastries, but pricey.
Highly recommend. We ordered a gluten-free cake (custom order) and it was by far the best gf cake I've had in the city - it was a hit with everyone.
Delicious French pastries! Plenty of parking. Perfect place to hang out.
Delicious neighborhood bakery! Try the vanilla croissant with a coffee!
Let me first state that I've had their cake at a friend's house before and it was stellar. My review is of my one and only visit today. I ordered the Rosti from the breakfast menu because it sounded quite good. When it arrived, the portion size was decent but there was something a bit off with the taste and smell of the bacon, particularly the fat on it, as if it was old. I thought it may have been old grease or oil they used to cook the bacon so I tried to get over it. The sunny side egg was done quite well and the potatoes had good texture, fluffy on the inside and crispy on the bottom. However the gruyere didn't add much flavor to the potatoes and overall the entire dish tasted under seasoned. Anyways 3hrs later, I feel ill. Not sure if it's related to the bacon or not. If you visit, by all means try the cake or pastry, just avoid this dish. I hope this experience was a one-off and your experience is better.
This place is a gem. Taste the real authentic Almond Croissant and the savory ones. It is just so yummy. There breakfasts and the pastries mouthwatering items. It is definitely one of the special places to have your breakfast.
Very cool items for sale. Perhaps on the priceier side.
Most Bougie option in the city for brunch and small pastries. Sous vide croque madames are the best.
I don't think I've had better baked goods anywhere else. My favorites are the croissant (fresh and frozen), sourdough and I'm loving the frozen waffles. This is a place I visit almost weekly.
One of my favourite Belgian food place in Calgary. Great pastries and services. The coffee could be improved.
All the food I’ve ordered has been delicious and the desserts are delectable, but I agree with many reviewers that the service has been mediocre in the past and slow enough to lose them business (a co-worker stopped going after they gave him the wrong order twice). However, today our experience was quick and courteous. I ordered a baguette sandwich on the phone and it was waiting for my partner when he picked up my the birthday cake ten minutes later. For the sake of this review I tested the cake we just bought right away, a Tonka (see 2nd photo), and it’s rich without being heavy, with a nice crunch to compliment the creamy filling. *the first photo is from my birthday last year. I got a small cake and tort because my partner didn’t realize he’d have to preorder the cake I wanted and chose from what they had on display. He figured that I’d enjoy at least one of them and it was a good call because they were both lovely.
Some of the best breads, desserts, and baked goods in Calgary. Please support local during covid! Can get frozen breads and croissant from them, and tastes just as good baked at home.
Delicious espresso and pastries. Really fresh and authentic taste
Exclusive European bakery and deserts. ????????????????????????☕
Authentic pastry and bread, with a gorgeous dessert selection. Great place for a lunch too, high quality ingredients. Price is high, but definitely a situation where you get what you pay for.
Wonderful fresh baked croissants, breads, cakes and coffees. Happy that their ovens are back working so we can benefit from this unique bakery
The food is amazing 10/10. The customer service is ATROCIOUS. I was there this morning and couldn't get over it. I usually don't review unless I think it is really bad. That being said, I love the product I will still come back and put up with the service.
Excellent bakery in the true European style and flavors.
Rude service! Though i love their bread and patisserie, i would probably never return.
One of my go-to patisseries. Beautiful entremets that are equally delicious. My favourites are the praline, pistachio & georgia entremets, all of which can be pre-ordered as full size cakes. And unlike many of the other patisseries in the city, they usually have a few full size cakes available for drop-in purchase for those last minute birthday cake needs. They also have bread and pastries, amongst which I’ve only tried the apricot pastry. Also delicious! That being said, the cookies & macarons are not their strong suit here. The cakes & pastries are where they truly shine. Seating, coffee, & a small selection of hot foods available also. Not too busy usually so it’s a nice place to have a dessert date. An underrated gem in this city.
It is not cheap, but very good quality products, and the cakes are delicious
Manuel Latruwe has the best croissants and pastries in the city. They were so delicious that we had to go back a second time to buy some more. Some people may find them a bit pricy but for excellent baking products I think it's worth it. My issue is with the poor customer service experience I had during that visit with one staff. I went to the store (March 30 around 1pm) for its food, not to be ridiculed. The names of the delicacies are in French and they are nicely displayed in single rows. I don't speak French, the food is in a glass display, and I don't see a problem in pointing to the cashier what I would like to get. However, she said she couldn't see what I was pointing at and insisted that I say the name out loud for her. I felt pressured and embarrassed and tried my best to pronounce the names. She then corrected my pronunciation. I bet she must be having a lot of fun in doing it. I guess I was just being too nice to be bullied by such a cashier. The first time I went, the other cashier had no problems with me pointing at what I wanted. Ask the taller cashier to serve you unless you want a condescending pronunciation lesson.
The Georgia Cake just may be the most delicious cake I've ever eaten. Super rich and decadent while also being light somehow. I always make sure to try and get this cake when visiting friends for dinner as it impresses every time!
Best tasting hot chocolate in town!
This place is lovely, the food is delicious and presentation is impressive. Sometimes the staff is not the friendliest, and prices are a little high.
We love the sorbet and the classic Belgian cakes!
Great pastry and breads. Often a quiet place for a coffee delicious lunch and great homemade soup.
Closed more often than not and don’t have a huge selection, the food is good don’t get me wrong but you’ll be lucky if you can have what you want if anything at all
As a regular I can tell you that this is THE best place to go get your croissant ???? !!!! They are so flaky, fluffy, buttery, it is hard to stop at one! Oh my god!!!!! Am i the only one who notice a big change!!! I will have to say one thing, it s been couple of months that I started noticing some improvement in the cakes!!!! And it s not only the shapes!!!! They always look so shiny, mouth watering... like they are made with love. The persons who are working on this pieces of art can be proud of themselves! Thank you! If you drive by please stop it is an amazing place!
Favourite patisserie in Calgary..they have Halal gelatin and that was an absolutely good surprise for me so I could take what ever I want ...every thing is fresh and taste ???? ????
Best bakery in calgary.
Unfortunately we did not have a good experience. We expected to see at least half part of the options showed in the website photos but it was almost empty. The latte is good and the server very friendly but she had almost nothing to sell.
Best bread in the city. I've had bread from pretty much every bakery in Calgary and this is definitely my favorite. Very nice staff. After having their bread I simply don't like any other.
A really nice stop to satiate all your sugar and/or coffee cravings. Very fresh stuff and a lot of take out stuff available.
Best bakery in the city. The fresh baked breads are excellent and the deserts are incredible. They are a bit pricey, but it is well worth it.
The frozen pastries are the best treats for a weekend breakfast!
I think you’re giving up a LOT of business by being closed on Sundays...
We order the Georgia cake. Possibly the best cake I've ever had in my life. Its was a piece of art. I wish I took a picture of it too. Will make this place to buy cake when we have guests or are the guest. Highly recommend! The picture is of a different cake. We felt so bad cutting into it. LOL!
Lovely bread, pastries, and cakes
Welcome back! This bakery is very good quality and reasonably priced.
Unique pastry, amazing bread. I devoured the Pain au chocolate and it was made to perfection!!
Such a great bakery. The ham and cheese croissant is insanely delicious. I can't wait for them to be back open and going full speed again. So many great items from here.
The goodies are delicious, and basically all four stars go to the food. The environment of the store could use some warmth and charm, but who cares when you are in croissant heaven? (Also try their hazelnut chocolate spread, you will never want to go back to Nutella again)
Love this place! They are my constant source for holiday desserts and special occasion cakes. Amazing croissants! Artisinal pastries and their "we make you bake" pastries are the best!
Excellent pastries and breakfast plates! Love the atmosphere and the service. Will be back next time in Calgary.
It’s worth a drive to have my almond croissant- perfect - my favourite patisserie in Calgary / hope you survive this tough time - good luck
Have tried multiple cakes from here but mixed feelings. The red velvet and the chocolate hazelnut was amaaazing! Tried the Exotic one and it wasn't that great, really sweet and just tasted like eating sugar. The presentation of the cakes are classy and pretty though
The vanilla cream croissants are to die for. Really good breakfast also. Order a ham, egg and cheese croissant, it's amazing. Everytime we are in Calgary, this place is a must.
In my opinion, this is still where you get the best croissants in town. Very flaky, layered, and puffy and soft on the inside. I also brought the fruit tart ($33) and Temptation cake ($7) during my visit. The fruit tart was good with the custard being not too sweet. The cake was also delicious with the sweet white chocolate mousse balanced by the tangy raspberry filling.
Everything is always of high quality. Breads, pastries, vienoisserie, and entremets. All beautiful and delicious.
I come to this establishment quite often. I just wished their chocolate croissants were better. They are usually stale, dry and lack some flavour.
Great attention to detail here! I had a ham sandwich on a baguette and a coffee. Everything was PERFECT. The baguette had beautiful crunch. The house made ham was absolutely delicious. The salad that came on the side was simple, just some lovely crispy lettuce with just a light tossing of tasty dressing. Coffee was nice and strong. I didn't like that refills cost 75 cents but hey, rent downtown is expensive. The staff was great, really friendly and informative without being intrusive. We felt welcome and I really enjoyed my visit.
The food is amazing!!! I would never go anywhere else!!! Well worth the Drive from anywhere in the city actually from anywhere in the province!!! Award winning Master
Fantastic bakery for bread, croissants and sweets. You have to try the profiteroles
Good quality bakery with a Belgian take on the food. I have enjoyed all the food I have tried, especially the walnut pecan bread and the quiches.
Everything in this shop is handmade and fresh! It's like a little piece of Europe in Calgary. The cakes are delicate and original, the macarons are divine and the bread is the real deal. I recommend going in when they open at 7:30 because the bread will still be warm and the place smells delicious. The staff is friendly, the European culture is apparent with their sometimes abrasive and brisk answers to questions or orders especially when it's really busy, like at lunchtime. A little gem in Calgary, I highly recommend it.
Staff is so friendly and love that they have frozen items also.
Exquisite french bakery. Nice for lunch, good coffee and they have ice cream and take and bake pastries!
