More often than not "bakery and deli" means that baked goods aren't the focus but this isn't the case here; in addition to their burek, this Balkan bakery also has a small selection of sweet baked goods and pastries. Some, like the danishes, are a bit too doughy, so I would definitely go with the flakier pastries. - Mimi's Cake Tour

One of the best bakeries in Calgary, truly a hidden gem - tucked away underneath an apartment complex on 17th Ave. The burek is delicious and they have options without meat - try the spinach/cheese or cheese ones.

Such a nice bakery! I love the selection of fresh food and snacks that is available from Europe because it's not something that's common so it's a great place to stock up! The cheese burek is my favourite. The only downside is that there is very limited parking nearby and it's very narrow but the store itself is bigger than you'd think and fun to explore and the staff are very nice and helpful!

Krem Pita, Meat/cheese burek = heaven. They're beyond the word 'good'. The consistency of the krem pita cream is just on point. I am not European but my girlfriend is. She even admit that the baked goods here are 'savage'. If I can live in this bakery I would just for the krem pita and the bureks. AMAZING!!

Good food overall, but they tend to cheap out when it comes to stuffing the Burek properly. They blame it on the bread having a tendency to become super soggy, but the ingredients that are utilized in the creation of the Burek lose the moisture that they barely carry once they are placed in the oven. I personally view it as an excuse to get the customer to purchase and get out of the door.

Been going to this place for at least the past 3 years. The staff are so friendly, it's family run, and their food is awesome. Just a charming shop, overall. It's also a little European store. I use to work with a lady from Bosnia, and she always asked me to pick up things from here that she would find in Bosnia. My favorite things from here are the chevapi, Burek, the Nutella buns, carrot cake and baklava. It's always fresh!

Pitalka is our favorite bread. We have been going to the store for years now but regularly since moving to Calgary 1.5 years ago. The food is tasty, wonderful comfort food just like the grandma used to make for sure! Everyone in the store is so friendly and nice. We love kajmak, suho meso, albanian sudzuka, we also buy other breads there too (rye bread and buns etc). The only bad thing is that it so easy to gain weight after eating here lol. Highly recommended.

First time going there last week, and it's absolutely delicious! Went with my Eastern European boyfriend who also enthusiastically approves. The ladies there were incredibly friendly and helpful. We had the Cheese Burek, Kadaiev (not sure on spelling but it's a sweet pastry similar to Baklava), and some Ayran. they even have frozen Burek that you can take home and bake yourself :) Definitely going back!

Love the place - fresh burek, bread, dry cured meats and ethnic foods! Great, friendly and courteous staff. If you haven't tried burek that's a must - in cheese, meat or spinach flavours. The pitalka bread is another must-try. Tip - buy at least 3, I usually go with half a dozen. Lots of bread varieties as well, sweet desserts, baklava, cakes, etc. Special orders and platters can also be accommodated. Easy access on the iconic 17th Ave. Check it out!

My parents who live back home in Nova Scotia found this family owned and operated bakery online and reached out to have some sweets delivered to me as a surprise on my birthday! The bakery was kind enough to offer delivery outside working hours to my apartment. I received a friendly call letting me know they had arrived and the delivery was seamless and they wished me a happy birthday at handoff! The cheesecake and other sweets I received were delicious, some of the best I’ve ever had! The spanakopita was also amazing tasty. None of it lasted very long ???????? I would recommend this place for sure! 10/10 for quality, friendliness and service.

This place has the best bread than any other place in Calgary, it blows cobs out of the water. Not just with the bread too, the Bureks are amazing! And very inexpensive! The staff are super friendly. Local and family owned grocery and baked goods shop. Friendly service here. The breads and goods here are very decently priced and come in a good quantity. It does get rather tight in here but the options of goods to get makes it fun to look around. These are the places one should go to support for local baked opposed to big chain stores. The bread is baked in a way it almost looks fake/like a toy but alas...its just that aestically pleasing. The bureks are also a good "snack" to get at a $6 a slice!

A wonderful jewel of a bakery here in town. If you haven't been to this bakery you need to correct that right away! I ordered the apple strudel and as you can see from the photos, it is a little piece of heaven that melts in your mouth! I love the selection of unique artisan breads that you cannot find in any other market here! It is not all sweet here either. They have plenty of savoury treats as well. This place is truly magical. I'm not being hyperbolic, buds; how else could they offer such a wide variety of specialty breads baked in-house and sliced to the width of your choosing FOR THE SAME PRICE AS BORING WHITE BREAD AT A CHAIN STORE?!? Sorry for the all-caps but this cost-to-quality ratio needs to be emphasized. My personal favourites are the onion rye and fruit & musli loafs, but honestly you can't go wrong with any. Support local and save a few bucks, buds.

We came across this small bakery one day on our walk along 17th ave, didn't have much of an expectation, and it completely blew us away with amazing food and customer service. They have freshly baked bread (our favorite is the Nordic Rye), chevap (bread stuffed with sausages), burek (flaky pastry with savory cheese, potatoes or beef fillings) and cakes! The flavours are crazy good and the portions are super generous! Don't know why I didn't know of this place sooner, it is one of those local family run businesses that I keep coming back to :)

Staff was friendly, but burek was disgusting. I intentionally took different toppings to try and unfortunately have to throw them all, whether i don'treally like to waste food. Some weird smell (especially cheese one), half baked dough, super large potato chunks. Not sure how there are so many positive feedbacks. It's not pricey but I would prefer to pay more, and get higher quality product, disappointed:(

There's no better place to buy European/middle eastern food and drinks but to go there. We are from edmonton and whenever we come there we always spend over $100's of dollars just buying everything there. The food especially, the Pita is so amazing there, tastes like back home in Bosna. The workers and owners are super nice and helpful, and I thank them for selling us products we had as a child, but I thank them more running a great business.
