Came in with my mother a few years back and I believe the owner, the lady all the reviews are speaking about, was completely rude. I kept smiling and asking her questions which she responded with one word answers, sighing and just plain rude. My mother who was new to canada at the time asked me if had done something to her prior to coming as she was so confused. Maybe she was having an off day. So I’ll change my review from one star to three stars as her desserts were good. I hope you have a better day than you did that day

My wife is vegan (can't have dairy) and also gluten-sensitive, so I was eager to give Cookie Mama a try, and purchased an assortment of their cupcakes yesterday. We were not disappointed! The cupcakes were absolutely delicious and I highly recommend this place. With most vegan baked goods, there's a compromise, a 'these are almost as good as the real thing' caveat. But Cookie Mama's cupcakes are, dare I say it, better than the 'real thing'! And as an added bonus, their cupcakes aren't overwhelmingly sweet like the 'real thing', which is awesome.

I'll never shop here again. The owner treated my son and I terribly. The poor kid was having trouble deciding between chocolate and vanilla and the owner lost it on us. She made me feel like I should not have brought him to the store. In fact, I tried to call the store to order ahead of time and was told that it was against their policy to prepare orders ahead of time - I would have to come down to the store to select the ones I wanted. I did that and got an earful. When I suggested she might have taken our order over the phone that morning if she didn't want to deal with the indecisiveness of a seven-year-old, she started yelling at me and telling me how hard her life is. What?! Shame. It would have been nice to have another gluten-free cupcake option in Calgary, but I'll not shop in a place where the customer is considered a nuisance. I'll shop at Crave or make my own cupcakes and they'll be filled with love, not anger.

We ordered a gluten free red velvet cake and 6 cupcakes and though the cupcakes were fantastic, as always, the cake was under-baked and the icing was not all cream cheese - the exterior was basic white icing with cream cheese icing ONLY between the two layers of cake. Considering the price we paid for the cake, it was highly disappointing. Lesson learned, will stick to the cupcakes in the future.

One of the few places in Calgary that makes an assortment of awesome vegan, vegetarian and/or gluten free goods. The owner, Janet, was very helpful with my online order for delivery and my colleagues were delighted with the vegan cupcakes! A little pricey, but well worth it; the cupcakes were beautifully decorated and everyone said they tasted amazing.

Coeliac & lactose intolerant heaven!!!! I have been on the gluten & lactose free diet since the start of the year and this place is amazing for the sweet treats I have been craving without the nasties that I am allergic too, all of the icing is piped on fresh so you can choose which one you want, all of the facilities used to make the gf and df look squeaky clean to avoid cross contamination. Would highly recommend to anyone who is on the gluten free and or dairy free diet.

Since then, this is my go-to place to buy cupcakes as for a treat for myself or a thank you gift to friends and neighbors. The fact that they offer allergy sensitive options makes this such a convenient place to buy from! The staff here are awesome and they are clearly the people you need to go to whenever you need desserts. Called in to order a vegan cake for my sister's birthday and had questions. Apparently, you can't have any questions and have to know everything before calling in to order. I said I would check the website and called back. I changed my mind and decided we would do cupcakes. I call back and tell her that I'm ordering cupcakes instead, and the lady proceeds to yell at me that I need to make up my mind and not to waste her time. I asked to speak with the owner and she states that she is the owner. Listen, if you are miserable, deal with it at home. Don't take it out on customers, and be professional. I ended up going to Bliss as they too have vegan options. They answered every one of my questions and accommodated my requests without a hassle. Bliss' cupcakes were delicious for a lesser cost. Glad I didn't waste a dime at cookie mama.

This is the greatest find for a bakery!! I ordered a dairy free & gluten free chocolate cake for an anniversary. The cake looked good and it was the best tasting chocolate cake I’ve had. It was a good chocolate flavour, it was moist and fresh! I would definitely recommend this bakery, especially if you have specific dietary needs…. and even if you don’t! I will definitely order from Cookie Mama again.

2 years ago original posting - Great tasting, light, and spongey gluten free cupcakes and bread! As well as some other baked goods. Cookies are okay, but I don't like mine hard, I prefer mine chewy. Things are priced the same as other gluten free goods are from other bakeshops. If you are celiac like myself though they don't provide itemized recipepts - so no claiming anything from here :( I talked to the owner and she won't change it. Update 2020: No longer will serve fresh bread. Not pleased - the main reason to go to gluten free bakeshops is to get fresh bread (thats fluffy and delicious) as it's really hard to get fresh bread at other stores. The manager also stated that she will no longer allow for special orders for fresh bread to continue either. Also very little flavours/loafs of frozen bread stocked in freezer. Reduced rating to reflect those changes and still not able to get itemized reciept.

I got two vegan cookies, two vegan cupcakes, and French press coffee and everything was absolutely delicious!!! The icing on the cupcakes was so soft and fluffy and had the perfect amount of sugar! The cookies were soft too, and paired perfectly with the French press coffee! They also have a HUGE variety of vegan, gluten free, and dairy free options! I would definitely recommend this place! The lady working was lovely as well :)

Horrible customer service! Agreed to make a special cake for a young child with severe allergies then cancelled the order via email because they didnt want to make it. Would rather make it ourselves then pay over $100 for a cake no one wanted to make in the first palce. Nice over the phone but terribly rude email cancelling the order. OMG! Def one of my NEW favourite places in Calgary! Just Wow! I was so stoked to pass it by on my walk down 17th and I’m telling you friends! This place is worth it! I got a variety of 5 different cookies and baked goods for $15!!! Totally worth the price knowing you are putting some good stuff in your system! Absolutely LOVED the Crocodile Rock cookie, that thing melts in your mouth it’s SO good! Plus the space is beautifully decorated and filled with so much love and art! It is worth it to stop by!

Cookie Mama’s vegan chocolate cake with chocolate icing was creamy, light and delicious! I bought a Cookie Mama vegan cake for the vegan guests and an ice cream cake for the skeptics, but I won’t that mistake again. Everyone ate and loved the vegan cake so now I have a freezer full of ice cream cake. The customer service was also top notch. I called at 2 pm looking for a vegan cake and was able to pick up by 5 pm the same day. Now, I wouldn’t expect this kind of service on a regular basis and I’ll order well in advance next time, but I very much appreciate their willingness to accommodate me when they can. Will absolutely order from them again.

Stopped in today to buy some cupcakes for my moms birthday. My mom is allergic to chocolate and I was blown away by the selection of tasty options which was available to us, so I bought some for my wife and I as well. Best chocolate cupcake I’ve ever had, and my Newfie wife was in stunned silence as to how good her carrot cupcake was. She said on a scale of 1-10 it was 100! I’ve never heard her rave about something being so perfect. Will definitely be back for more and more often!!

sucks...i was a loyal customer from the moment i found i could eat here..my family and i have bought cupcakes and cakes...many times.. we were just dropped because we were too too much trouble to keep a little ingredients for us...my large family and i would have been loyal customers... lucky you..you can throw away customers....we counted we ordered 6 cakes and at least 4 dozen cupcakes in 2 months..just for my side...we also payed a premium for the alternative ingredients.....the others ordered more...im not taking it out on you...im notifying people that a bakery that says it is specialty is not always as it seems....i...we all tried to support our local community by buying local..we just have to buy from afar

Cookie mama was amazing from beginning to end! I called them requesting a special confetti cake for my brother’s 30th birthday. We were planning to visit from Washington state with a group of friends. The cake was amazing! The dairy free friends we had in the group were so impressed that they could eat the cake and cookies. I was welcomed by a young woman ( to me she seemed young ????). I told her I am gluten free vegan and she had showed me everything I could possibly order. Since it was my first visit (definitely not the last one) I let her to decide which cupcake I should try. I got two, also gf vegan ice cream and bread. She also offered us icecream to try while we were waiting for finishing up my cupcakes. So, the cupcakes were really good! They were really sweet, lil bit more than I usually eat but still very yummy. The icecream is good as well and the bread is good too.

I have been to Cookie Mamas before for vegan cupcakes and cookies and have always been super impress! It was my best friends birthday a couple days ago, and so I ordered the Rocketman chocolate cake, was super impress with the cake menu and the customer service! I believe her name is Janet, she was so sweet when she called to confirm the payment and pick up day! I got the cake within a couple days as I requested and let me tell you this.. it was the BEST vegan cake myself and my friends have ever had!! The cake was super moist, not dry at all, the taste was incredible, even my non vegan friends were blown away and the icing wasn't to sweet it was perfect! I highly recommend Cookie Mamas place to anyone! You can tell Janet puts alot of love and passion towards her sweet tooth business! Thank you so much Cookie Mama! Got cupcakes for my birthday, only 4 so we were able to just walk in - it was a very quick and pleasant experience! They were frosted on the spot too, so they tasted super fresh! We really enjoyed the cake part. Very fluffy and just the right amount of sweetness (we usually find other bakeries' goods to be too sweet). The chocolate buttercream on 2 of the 4 cupcakes was also amazing, perfect consistency and flavour! (the ones in the picture). However, the ones with cream cheese frosting (bohemian rhapsody and smooth operator) tasted a little too much like vinegar. I have not seen any reviews mentioning this so I assume we might have been unlucky on the particular batch of frosting?

I ordered the Revolution Carrot Cake (regular - also comes as GF and V options) for my Mom's Birthday/Mother's Day last week, and not only was it beautifully decorated but it was absolutely delicious! The texture of the cake was soft and moist with visible shreds of carrot and the perfect amount of cream cheese centre! The owner, Janet, also replied to my online order form in less than an hour! I would highly recommend ordering or stopping by this bakery!

I had a great experience at Cookie Mama. I pre-ordered a dozen cupcakes a few months back for a baby gender reveal; the ordering process was easy, the owner, Janet, was great to deal with, turn around time to have them made was quick, the price was extremely reasonable (a third of the price of some other places I contacted in Calgary), and the cupcakes were exactly as I hoped they would be. My experience was flawless. The store had a tempting selection of treats available when I picked up my cupcakes, and while I haven't tried anything else there, I would recommend Cookie Mama for great service and ease of specialty ordering based on my experience.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I was a long time customer but recently ordered a custom lemon gluten-free cake and it tasted absolutely horrendous. I got that cake made for my birthday and it was extremely embarrassing. The cake was practically uncooked, doughy, and had no lemon flavor at all. I brought up the concerns and was told "we are not responsible for how the cake tastes and whether the customer likes it, we just make what you ask for". I told them that even ignoring the flavor, the cake itself was uncooked, doughy (mushy and watery), using those exact terms and was told that we simply make our cakes like that and if you don't like it then don't get one. So in conclusion, do not go to them unless you enjoy raw doughy cakes.

Small place, clean. Lady washed her hands twice which is always a good thing. However she seemed to be a bit rude, and discriminatory, kept rolling her eyes. Plus the vegan cupcakes are FROZEN ?! Didn't take us seriously. The cupcake was alright, as well as the nanaimo bars. So this review isn't to persuade you to go neither does it dis-encourage you from going. It was alright as bakery, not much of a WOW factor.

**0 stars. My boyfriend has bought me many treats from this company over the past few years and has complained on many occasions about the customer service from an old lady working there. He not only felt unwelcome from her passive aggressive remarks but was also given an extra helping of attitude alongside the cupcakes. It was almost as if his service was a burden and she couldn't spare 2 minutes of her time to answer questions or concerns that he had. On the last occasion, he ordered a gluten-free cupcake for me and he made sure to specify a second time it was gluten-free and the old lady aggressively confirmed it was. When he brought it to me it looked well done and I was excited, but upon eating it I had a mild celiac reaction later to find out it was most definitely not gluten free. This is a serious problem for many people with this condition and I will not recommend anyone else to gamble on this business. Protect yourselves and stay far away.
