Friendly staff and great pastries!

Chris Eshpeter

Truly one of the best croissants I have ever eaten in my life. These folks are true artisans crafting amazing pastries at very reasonable prices. A must visit one on 17th Ave.

Mimi W

Definite points for thinking up the ingenious idea of flavoured kouign amann, which, though not very common, is my pick for top French pastry. EVER. However, I found these ones not as decadent, with that irresistible signature caramelized crust as I had hoped. - Mimi's Cake Tour

@blacksheepyyc ft blueberry croissant ???? . . Was intrigued by the appearance of their croissants so visited them for breakfast one day. This place makes their own jams, and in the center of this croissant was some flavourful (but not too sweet) blueberry jam. Love the combination of the crispy layers and just the right amount of gooey jam. They also got other breakfast options. Highly recommend their ham and cheese!

Annamarie Cripps

The raspberry croissant is amazing, the home made jam really makes a difference! Definitely worth checking out

Always a great experience, friendly and fun staff. The pastries are the freshest and the most delicate. Like all businesses, they are adapting to covid times, and doing a great job to keep everyone safe. The croissants are amazing!

Black Sheep has quickly become one of my favourite caffeination stations in Calgary. They are one of the few local shops open during quarantine and I will go out of my way to support them and my snobby caffeine addiction. I love that you can choose your roast of espresso for their bar drinks. Also - their pastries are irresistible.

John Manzo

Inestimable pastries. French owners know croissants, kouign amann, madeleine, and coffee program is simple but of excellent quality Prices are very good esp in light of the excellent quality

Derek Moline

Croissants amazing. Calgary is a great city and all the more so with Black Sheep

Carl McKee

AMAZING STAFF AND CROISSANTS!!!!! They were very kind and described all the pastries and desserts to me in great detail. The line up to get in was long but was worth the wait! I noticed how busy they were from across the street and I just had to get a taste of black sheep! sooooo delicious, I highly recommend coming here!

Beautiful bakery, I had the loveliest experience! The staff were very kind and welcoming. They were super informative about everything from the pastries and baked goods to the wide variety of teas and house-made jams. They gave recommendations based on their favorites while also taking into account my preferences and making me feel valued. I was even suggested which tea would pair well with the pastries I had picked out. I could see how passionate they are and it translates beautifully into their work. I left feeling excited and once it came time to try the pastries, they did not disappoint! They were pure bliss. I'm so glad I went in today, I'll be back again soon!

Courtney

Really great coffee shop. The vibe is really relaxing, the service was friendly and attentive, not to mention the pastries that are to die for. Excellent coffee and I heard the chocolate cake is incredible. Will definitely be returning to try more items and enjoy this place

Service took forever. The cashier spent 15 minutes waiting on/talking to one person, while none of the other staff even bothered addressing my party, not even apologise for the long wait. Be prepared to be forced to wait 10 minutes for overpriced croissants.

Nevaeh Burlock

Delicious croissants, sweet atmosphere and staff!! Recommend to anyone who is a pastry lover:))

Sandra

Beautiful presentation and taste.

Mark Addicott

Super Delicious and great service! I was also pleasantly surprised to see them stand for people who don't follow the city bylaws. Not even allowing for anyone who falls under the categories to bend the rules. thank you to the whole team for keeping all the patrons safe! Also highly recommend the raspberry and almond croissants so good!

Picked up some baked goods for my partner's birthday. People working were very nice and informative and I got nothing but high praise for what I picked up. Would definitely go here again next time I'm in Calgary and would definitely suggest it.

Overpriced pastries, better options available elsewhere, unfriendly service

Rohan Shanbhag

Found this place a few weeks ago while I was walking by and saw a line - did not know when they opened, but decided to see what it was all about. They have coffee, pastries, bread etc. What blew me away was the quality of their croissants (had raspberry) and what they call "almond" - it was soft, sweet - yet not too sweet - and just the perfect portion to go with coffee. Their mango cake slice was exceptionally tasty - I usually do not repeat non-chocolate cakes - but I will be getting another slice of this one for sure in the future. Food 5/5, Atmosphere 5/5, and staff/service 5/5.

(Translated) There are artisans in this world who work with love, passion, time and thoroughness. In Calgary there are a few capable of offering quality products, incredible aromas and flavors in the baking and pastry world. Benjamin and his team are among those. In the plate or to take away, their pastries and other treats, as well as their baguettes are exemplary products. The only homemade jam croissant is here and nowhere else! In terms of decoration, it is simple and refined, unpretentious, just good taste. So don't hesitate to come in and taste it, and if the line is long, take the time to look at the pictures on the walls, a very nice design job!

Update: I came back and got some pastries this time. The pastries are designed and made by French pastry chefs! The Mille-feuille was so good and they only make one or two batches of 8 a day and they sell out quick! The layers and cream were so tasty. Definitely need to come back again for this. The oat milk latte was quite good as well ???? ________________________________________________ We got the eggnog chai latte which was about $6.00 each. The taste was good but we were unaware the latte didn't contain any coffee in it. We asked about it and were told that it doesn't and were surprised because we thought lattes have coffee in it. So we ended up adding coffee shots into it which cost about $4.00 each. So at a total cost of about $30.00 for three lattes seemed very ridiculous to us.

Perfect flaky croissants filled the most delicious homemade jams and delicious coffees! Tried the London Fog Latte last time and it was one of the best I've ever hand! Strongly recommend this small cafe!

Friendly staff who took the time to explain their unique offerings. Their pear croissants look amazing and tastes great too. Will be back.

My friend and i went in because he wanted a pastry and i ended up with an amazing tea thanks to Julien. Excellent attention to customers and awesome environment.

Alyssa Springer

Delicious pastries and friendly staff!

Mike Surbey

Great place, friendly staff. Love the brownie and look forward to trying the chocolate cake.

Dawn H

Absolutely incredible pastries (I would kill for a kouign amann right now) and the tea selection and drinking chocolates are delectable. And as much as I love their amazing regular offerings - the specials are our pr this world. First time I had seen a vertical layer cale and it was even more delicious than it was beautiful - which was an impressive feat. Go! Now! You won't regret it!

(Translated) It's so neat and fresh from the interior. If you like croissants, the price is a little It can be expensive, but be sure to go and try it It is recommended to drink coffee as well. It looks really good, but The moment you put a bite in your mouth, before you go over your throat You can already feel the scent of the croissant on your tongue. The outside is really crunchy and the inside is soft castella Plus, it's just delicious. The price was small, but if you consider the size and sincerity I think it costs that much. Coffee was as little as a bonus, but really, really, really It smells good and tastes good. If you like bread in Calgary, Don't worry about 1, go eat it. I highly recommend it.

The pastries are really good

Marguerite “Intoxinia” Deschamps

Best French pastry in YYC, any croissant (traditional or filled with jam) is delicious, freshly baked every day, there is no compromise on quality. Ben is as well introducing new French pastries on a regular base, like the new Paris-Brest which is a MUST with a delicious coffee or tea. To choose between croissants, GF brownies, Flan, Cheesecake, Tiramisu and much more fresh baked goodies, its a dilemma, so more than one visit is mandatory. Hats off!!!

Cheryl Tong

I really enjoyed the croissant I had here, it was wonderfully crisp and buttery. It may be a little messy to eat, but it’s very much worth getting covered in crumbs. Personally, I would skip the pumpkin-filled croissant, and as well as the ham and cheese pastry, as both of these fillings make the flaky pastries slightly soggy and chewy, and takes away from the crunchy and flaky nature that one comes fo expect from this type of butter pastry

Jamie Frost

Wesam Khalfalla

Very nice croissant and coffee !

Ash Pooley

Quaint coffee show with excellent brew!

Leena Rudra-Das

A place I would love to go again and again for a cup of hand made coffee and an array of french and italian bakery items to choose from. The mini pizza with a puff base are just so yummy and nearly bite size makes it all the more loveable ! Variety of Croissant , variety of pastries and variety of coffee all under one roof is all I can ask for while shopping around 17th Ave, Calgary !

Shelly McIntosh

Gustavo Martins

10 dollars for a tartelette is simply ludicrous. A quick market research would show that you are out of your mind. Layers of their croissant are way too crass as well. No finesse.

Hungry Piggy

Hands down THE BEST croissants in Calgary! Highly highly recommend!! I never even knew this place existed until a friend brought me a croissant and I was instantly addicted! It was so fluffy, flakey, soft interior and crispy exterior with the perfect amount of sweetness. My absolutely favourite is the pear flavoured croissants! I still cream about them till this day. My trips to Calgary will never be complete without stopping by to pick up some of their croissants!

simren t

Absolutely delicious, with very friendly and helpful staff. Their viennoiserie travels well, even the next day!

D P

Came here for a coffee and a chat and it was perfect in every aspect, atmosphere, treats and of course the tea and coffee selection!! Yum!

robert morfitt

The baguette here is nothing short of amazing! Simply sublime. The staff were friendly, informative, and helpful. It’s definitely become a go to spot to hit while visiting Calgary. Black Sheep May even become part of my daily routine.

Jocelyn Alisha

I love french patisserie, but I am particular about the level of sweetness. I find many such things far too sweet and catered for a north american palate- but this place doesn't yield to that philosophy. The selections are petite in size- which I much prefer- but certainly not lacking in substance. We tried the sourdough bread and raspberry croissant- both of which have a lovely chew and delicate unique flavour; the homemade jam was superb and reminded me of summer's bounty. Then for the more exotique side of my palate, the Earl Grey French Blue, looseleaf black tea- absolutely heaven in a cup! & the tiramisu- a decadent but subtle coffee mousse; perhaps not traditional, but ethereally light and just right on the sweet/bitter side. Merci Beaucoup for a enchanting first taste. I anticipate our next visit.

Dan S

Very wonderful Would especially recommend the pistachio madeleines

My daughter used to work at David's Tea just down the street and as a barista for Elle at this wonderful patisserie! Amazing pastries and staff. It's well worth the price to pay for something made with top quality ingredients by highly skilled chefs☺️. The blueberry croissants are my favourite.

Yann de la Chanonie

Everything is amazing! Absolutely worth checking out!

Corey Shefman

Excellent & authentic pastries, in unique combinations, at reasonable prices. When I say 'reasonable' prices, I mean reasonable for the quality. This isn't Tim Hortons. You're getting high quality, authentic, creative french pastry, and you're going to pay for it. But what you get is delicious and satisfying! I got the pistachio kouign amann, and the pear croissant. The kouign amann was a picture perfect example of how one should taste. Flaky, carmelized, and sweet. It melted in my mouth and was both delicate and flavourful. Somehow it managed to not be heavy the way some are. I saved the pear croissant for the next day's breakfast, and it was still delicious! Generous filling of flavourful pear filling, in a perfectly flaky croissant. The service was wonderful as well, with the french-accented server explaining each pastry in detail to everyone in the shop, and offering drink pairings as well. Extremely well trained and professional.

The most amazing patisserie opened by two lovely French men. They serve a special cake each week along with a beautiful collection of croissants and madeleines. And they also serve tea from Mariage Frères in Paris. C’est délicieux!

Paul Stoia

This is the best chocolate layer cake you will find in Canada! The owner is from France and makes his native country very proud! WOW!!!

Vanessa M

Absolutely AMAZING hot chocolate! I will never get hot chocolate form anywhere else again. They have a variety to choose from that are all uniquely made and delicious - from classic chocolate made with a housemade ganache to white chocolate and blueberry. And their deserts are fabulous too! Stumbled upon this place on accident and loved it ever since.

The pastries are sooooo good! The raspberry croissant was just out of oven. So crispy and inside was soft. The raspberry jam was perfect sour and sweet. The pistachio and sour cherry tart has perfect mixed flavour. It may be a bit pricey but definitely worth. Also service was fantastic!

It is basically eating and savouring delicious art

Eileen Wong

Delicious croissants baked fresh daily by the Parisian baker and owner, Ben. In contrast to the basic butter croissants, the croissants here also have delicious fillings. Having tried the plain, chocolate, lemon, raspberry, pumpkin and matcha croissants, my personal favorite is the raspberry-filled croissant. It was a tough decision though! As of October 2019, the coffee here is now made by Latte Art Love, the pop up coffee catering shop in Calgary. This luxury coffee uses quality beans and takes pride in perfecting the milk and making chocolate and some of the other ingredients for a tasty specialty coffee. I especially like the mocha and the Americano with the dark roast bean.

April McGrath

I love buying pastries from Black Sheep. Everything is delicious. I especially love their madeleines and pain au chocolat. They also have wonderful jams and coffee. Visiting this shop with their friendly staff is a real treat!

Francis L

Top 2 Croissants in the Area. Though hard to get some days. Anything with Chocolate has been amazing too.

Zaia Abraham

The pastries were fresh and tasted really good. Nice to have this bakery in Calgary - saves a trip to Paris if you love French pastries.

Discrimination towards people with medical conditions and can't wear masks and they DO NOT follow the bylaw because it allows for medical exemptions. No thanks!! Take my dollars elsewhere!

Andrew Suderman

Best croissants and pastries in town!!! You need to try it to understand that perfect balance of airy and crispness of their croissants!

Probably best bakery in Calgary for french pastries. The kougin aman is just delectable. The also have a $10 mystery bag with day-old croissants which is such a good deal!! Love this place.

The place is cute but they dont have a lot of pastries to choose from and they are way over priced.

Chris Levesque

Bruce Ruzindana

This pastry shop has all sorts of traditional and non-traditional French pastries, and the chausson aux pommes I got was fantastic. But even better, the staff are wonderful. I had a great French chat with the lady behind the counter (Marie-Christine I think). Come to this place, you will be so warmly welcomed and the treats are sure to bring you back for more!

Very nice selection of French pastries. The madeleines are very good. Coffee was good. The person behind the counter (I’m guessing the owner) was very pleasant and patiently went through the entire menu! This is a welcome addition to 17th Ave. Totally recommend!

Chris Toombes

While the pastry we had was nice the medium hot chocolate must be the smallest in Calgary. It was basically just chocolate milk microwaved. Also not much of a selection on the day we visited.

Delicious treats, amazing hot chocolate, they are just very pricy and their coffee is definitely lacking. Other than that fairly good.

Elizabeth Waddle

The crossaints are delicious and they have a wide variety of crossaints, pasteries and desserts available. I recommend that you try the veienese hot chocolate. It will take them a bit longer to make the vienese hot chocolate but it is well worth the wait. I believe that they have 17 different types of crossaints

Kat

Coffee tasted okay! They need to expand on their selection and quality of the pastries.

I had a cappuccino and salted caramel shortbread cookie, my wife had a blanc and rose tea and a lemon marmalade croissant. Smooth coffee and the shortbread just melted in your mouth. The croissant was crisp and sweet, and the tea was light, not too rose-y, and very refreshing. Now I regret walking past and not going in before! Nice touch with the pixelated artworks.

Authentic French bakery in YYC. Amazing tiramisu and great conversation. Got to meet the lead chef and his team - fantastic Parisian delicacies. Enjoy!

Yvette Ramirez

Flaky croissants, filling treats and delicious beverages! Quaint patisserie.

Chau Huynh

Just literally stuffed my faced with the almond and chocolate croissant! Super tasty and best of all, fresh out of the oven!!! Talk about good timing. The pastry chef here is from Brittany, France! Super modern and cute cafe. Have the pastries here or take them out. I'm sold on this place!

CY Siu

What a gem of a place. Parisienne style bakery and croissant style. The staff here is most helpful and friendly although straight to the point as well. Their croissants range from $3.50-4.75 (dependent on style). The layering to the flakiness to how the fruit jam filled one still comes out oozing, is quite a treat and unlike any other bakery in Calgary (see my cross section pics to see what I mean). There are also other offerings of sweets, baked goods, merch (including the jams they make), tea and coffee. A must go visit when and if in the area.

Amit Setty

The amaretti cookies taste amazing bought one and then walked back in to by four more to take

Jeremy Graham

Their passion and dedication to their craft really comes out when you have a question and they answer the question for you. The only problem is that you then may want to buy 100 pastries and eat them all on the way home. Pure brilliance!!!!!

Bought 1 croissant and it was ok but overpriced. Employees kept asking if that was all. Yes that was all because I wanted to try and I was disappointed.

Jared Koehl

Blown away by the delicious pastry! Commander en Français and don't forget to say merci when you get your treats. Great spot to meet with a friend or a date.

Coffee tasted like water. Pastry was okay but very overpriced. They did very good job on presentation of their interior and food, however, quality of coffee needs improvement.

So..I was going to Starbucks and saw this caffe.. I was away from downtown for a while so, I didn't realize that there is a new caffe around. I decided to change my mine and try this one. First thing first it is an authentic French pastry caffe, that said means the chef is a frensh from Paris ( isn't that cool)????????. I get the pistachio tart which I felt it is highly expensive *10 $* but, I thought I will treat my self ???? and it is different..maybe it is something different from what I would expect but, it is different. The pistachio on the top caramelized with pistachio paste. There is raspberries pieces filled in the tart. Now after I finish it, I would say if tge pistachio is little bit more carmalized and roasted, I would love it more . I would love to feel the crunch and the sweet crumbs. Just saying. If you are into new things you should give a try???? and yes, it is nice place to bring your girl or boyfriend into it. I would say it is one if the high taste cafe's ????

If you haven't tried this place - you need too! I went with my sister over the weekend and the staff & owners were beyond nice! They had conversations with us about each pastry, the history behind it, and the careful thought placed into creating it. French pastries and breads were amazing! Go in and try their drinks, as well! I will definitely be going in again! My grandma also loved their signature croissants with homemade jam filling! & My younger cousins adored the hot chocolate - this place has something for everyone! :)

Delicious stuffed croissants and mandalines. Their smokey hot chocolate with bacon is probably one of the best in Calgary.

The best croissants I’ve ever had! A little expensive but that’s to be expected cause of the quality you’re getting. The outside is perfectly crispy and the inside is very soft and moist and airy. I got a regular butter croissant and a raspberry croissant. The raspberry croissant is also the best flavoured croissant I’ve ever had, I really enjoyed the balance of sweet and sour from the raspberry jam filling and the texture of the croissant was very enjoyable too. The guy working there was very nice and explained how everything worked here as it was our first time here.

Celia Meunier

Wonderful pastries. Super authentic! Worth a visit. Parking available right in front most days. Friendly staff. I can't wait to go back!

Tyler Pentland

So fresh! So yummy! Always friendly!

Jerry Ciring

I’m pretty sure every croissant I’ve ever had in my life prior to the ones available at Black Sheep were a lie and a caricature of what a croissant is supposed to taste like. Like some described to an alien what a croissant is supposed to taste like and they alien gave it their best shot. The service is top notch, the pastries are all delicious but give their kouign-amann if you want true decadence. Excellent coffee too.

Matthew Hicks

Owner was right. About everything. Ten stars out of five.

Samir Gindi

Soooooo good! They didn’t have the opera cake available but had the ham and cheese croissant and it was delicious! Coming back for the opera cake soon :)

Kevin Berggren

Was interested in going into the store to check out the pastries, but was turned away by the aggressively worded sign on the door which contained an exhaustive list of strange requirements for entry. Potential customers are required to either wear a mask (do they mean a surgical mask? will customers be performing operations? or be exposed to hazardous vapours or particulates?), or must have some medical condition(s) and provide proof in the form of a doctors note (illegal by the way to ask people for medical proof), also several other procedural requirements, written in a very authoritative tone. It’s as though the store were its own tiny kingdom where to gain entry, one must provide bonafide documentation. What next? Reveal our personal medical history? Provide a passport? I hope that many others are as incensed by this level of draconian arrogance, by bun makers no less, to not support this business, or any others who have such ridiculous attitudes. In the perilous times we currently exist, especially for small business, it would stand to reason that they would be doing everything in their power to be welcoming of all people rather than repel with heavy handed rules and asinine signage. Are we so hungry for lumps of baked wheat flour and fat that we will willingly observe unreasonable, unethical, insulting rules imposed by a shop owner, that we will suspend our intelligence and dignity and then hand over money for the privilege? Sad commentary on where we are headed as a society. We get it, AHS has taken control and has forced business owners to comply with ridiculous rules, business people have no choice. They will not unite and en mass protest for their and our freedoms, its not what they do, but check out the snotty attitude and language used in the sign (and in the owners comments). Besides all that, and I don't care about some pseudo-french bun shop, the bylaw is unconstitutional. Also, it is illegal to demand proof of a medical exemption, no one is required by law to provide proof if they have one.

Best croissants ever. The outside is crisp, the inside is tender and flaky. They aren't too sweet and the flavour is plentiful.

Really cool cafe! The coffee is brewed individually in a traditional espresso maker. I loved that. The pastries are out of this world! I tried the raspberry croissant, the pain au chocolat and a pistachio tart. Really, this little French cafe is a very unique and memorable place. Highly recommended.

Brian Judge

For the same reasoning that other establishments get a 1 star review, Black Sheep gets a 5. And that reasoning is consistency and attention to detail. No matter when I have gone there, from the first visit to the multiple times following, the service and quality has always been fantastic and replicated each time.

Jackie Gill

All pastries I have tried are excellent. Staff has been helpful when I asked questions. Baguettes are great! This bakery does familiar as well as updated styles of French patisserie. I love that they have small options as well.

Black Sheep is a divine little french cafe located on the edge of downtown. I highly recommend any of the croissants - they are large, flakey and filled with different housemade jams. I also appreciate that this shop carries Mariage Freres tea, a quality and authentic tea brand from France. This place is worth visiting if you are taking a stroll down 17th!

This is one of my favourite places in Calgary. Their baking is exceptional (my favourite is the raspberry croissant!), the staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is serene and sophisticated. I also really appreciate that they don’t allow people inside without masks to keep everyone safe; and am glad to see that they are happy to bring your items right to you at the front door if you cannot come inside. Some of the best bread in town, the price is a little high but as soon as you take a bite you know why, the quality of ingredients and craft can be immediately tasted, good for when you want to treat yourself. I try to snatch a mistery bag whenever available for good value.

Jessica Dillon

Love the croissants, best I've have in the city. Unfortunately, when I went there one time I asked for two croissants and they said they were sold out, no problem. While waiting for the coffees, the couple behind me asked for two croissants and the server asked what flavor would you like. I was pretty disappointed, and should have spoke up. Will go back, but will order in advance.

Fantastic place! Amazing pastries and the hot chocolate is to die for. Nice that they have plug ins in at all the tables so you can have meetings here. I take my laptop and work on my photos here whenever I can.

We are so fortunate to have this little patisserie in Calgary. Service is always friendly, and the products -- I've had nothing but excellent experiences here. The highlight is their beautiful, delicious and unique filled croissants -- I've never seen anything like them, not even when I was in France. They also carry the best cheesecake, tiramisu, cookies, and other amazing baked items. The opera cake is to die for. There is a coffee bar and hard to find French Mariage tea. Walking here is like being in France for a few minutes. The only area for improvement is, I would love it if they started making strawberry tarts!

Jordyn Chartrand

Love their products!! They've recently begun to make brown mystery bags of 4 pieces for 10$. Was very excited about it until the bag i later opened in the evening at home had ham and cheese in it... it wasn't refrigerated in the shop so I didn't refrigerate it at home. Oh well. The only other possible negative thing i can say about this shop is they never answer their phone! Custom orders may be hard to obtain this way and they may miss business. Love them tho!

Sapna Gupta

From the ease with which you can pre-order & pay in advance via their website, to their customer service & quality of freshly made French pastries; This place is nothing short of a five star experience. Especially love their innovative approach of helping other local businesses by carrying their goods, which in turn provides a one-stop shop for customers. In one visit you can grab fresh, mouthwatering pastries, coffee, a bouquet of flowers, and hand-crafted chocolates. How can you go wrong? Well... you can’t! Go check them out!

Daniel Nieddu

BEST hot chocolate. Super rich, sweet, and delicious, made with their homemade chocolate ganache, i bought another one after I finished my first one the same day ????. They even have blueberry white hot chocolate, and mango passion fruit hot chocolate if you want to try something unique. Chocolate lovers won't be disappointed, and their pastries are awesome too!

Jing Ly

I've never been one to write reviews, but after my experience at Black Sheep Patisserie, I just had to put my thoughts out there! Their croissants were perfectly flakey and just the right amount of sweetness (pain au chocolat and joachim choco)! The service by Julien was unlike anything I've ever experienced at a cafe! He was so knowledgeable with our croissant and coffee pairing! Who knew this was even a thing? If I could bring Julien and his cafe back to Toronto with me, I would! This place is that good! You can definitely see the passion Julien has for his drinks and baked goods!

I have so much love for this delightful Bakery. If you're looking for a taste of Paris, look no further. Ben and his amazing team of bakers create some of the most to die for pastries in Calgary. After visiting France recently, I came to the conclusion that I like the croissants from Black Sheep, more than a lot of the bakeries I visited in Paris. So if you're looking for fantastic coffee, legit French pastries, amazing baguettes, and a wonderful welcoming atmosphere. Make sure you stop in and say Bonjour!

Get the raspberry croissant. DO IT. It's a game changer. Planning to buy the raspberry jam the next time we're there. Thanks for the solid recommendation, Black Sheep!

Lena Hallaq

This place really puts love into the coffee process and pastry art. Best raspberry jam croissant and iced coffee I've ever had!

Marilyn McCulloch

I have been a customer of Black Sheep since it opened in January, 2019. The consistent attention to quality excellence & customer service are admirable & appreciated. The Croissants are the BEST I’ve ever had - including the Lemon Croissants, Blueberry Croissants & Raspberry Croissants. The Pain au Chocolate, Baguettes & their homemade jams are also among my favourites. The selection of teas & coffee are incredible. Benjamin & his cohesive team have captured the hearts of numerous customers. I drive 45 minutes each way to pick up & enjoy the Black Sheep creations. Please remember to respect COVID protocol & wear a mask. I highly recommend going to Black Sheep & indulging in their menu offerings.

Matthew Riddell

I recently purchased a Mocha from Black Sheep Coffee. As the server was putting my order into the till, the Manager (French/European Gentleman) asked about the roast, I rolled my eyes, thinking.." Is this necessary?" I asked for Dark Roast. Before I knew it there was an Additional 2x Espresso Shot ontop of my purchase @ 1.20 per shot. When asked the question when I was ordering my coffee , it seemed like it was included in the price. I don't mind paying 50/75cents for an expresso shot, if that's what I request. However, I'm not a fan of the extra charge being presented on my bill as an extra charge without me knowing or being told beforehand. On a brighter note, this coffee shop has unique tarts, scoons, and cakes that are reasonably priced.

Angie Rodgers

Best croissants and coffee in the city! Everything here is always fresh, delicious, and made with top quality ingredients. The staff are wonderful, always helpful and professional. Their baked goods have quite a turnover, so you can count on a fresh treat every time. They are currently upholding the mask regulations mandated by the City, so if you are worried about COVID, you will be safe here. If you are exempt, just explain why and they will accommodate you. They genuinely care about every customer and want everyone to feel welcome.

The owner is extremely passionate about the place and it shows in the details. The pastry selection is well curated and executed with fine little touches. The raspberry croissant is my favorite item so far. Would definitely recommend as an above the norm pastry and coffee shop.

Everything is delicious, however the ham and cheese croissant is spectacular! Thank you for following the city bylaw and keeping everyone safe.

Anjola Adeboye

Great quality croissants. Definitely worth the hype and the almost $4 charge. It is beautifully flaky, buttery and you can tell a lot of love and time was put into each and every layer. The madeleines however were moist and beautifully sweet but unfortunately very oily to consume. It may have been an unfortunately bad batch though. Great selection of drinks (hot and cold). Will definitely be going back for that delightful croissant and to check if the madeleines were simply a one-off. Coffee can be skipped. Overall it is delightfully french, incredibly tasty and well worth the trip.

Disappointed how they run the business. I purchased their mystery bags through online last night and when I went there to pick it up today, they said they didn’t get my order so they didn’t have mine at all. They asked me if I want mystery bags on other day which I wouldn’t want because of distance and hours I would have to drive. They said they will refund my money but still it is really disappointed. I guess they could ask better offer to make customer happy. It seems like instead make customer happy, they have better purpose on business.

Hana Karmali

We ordered half a dozen croissants. Due to COVID we pre-ordered and picked up. When we got home and took them out they were soggy with no crisp and were stale. There is no contact number so I e-mailed them and received no response back. This was approx. 2 months ago and still nothing...

nicky grewal

I went for the first time with my sister and let me just say you will not be disappointed. The staff is so kind, so patient, and genuinely want you to have a great experience. Please give them your money over Starbucks or other chains, you will not regret it! If I lived close I'd go way too often. They were so excited that we were trying the cafe and it was just overall such a great experience to chat with them and hear about the creations. So yummy, you have to try!

After a long-ago trip to Seattle's Cafe Presse, my husband has never forgotten their chocolat chaud - a true French hot chocolate made with ganache. He has tried many since but they are merely imposters. When I saw Black Sheep offered chocolat chaud, we put it on our list immediately! We both had cups of chocolat chaud today and they were heavenly. I got a small and had immediate regrets. All the pastries looked divine. Almost better than the hot chocolate was the kind customer service. Although we were the only two in the store - as per current restrictions - I felt that we would have been treated just as well, even if there was a giant line-up. *chef's kiss*

I've been to this place twice now because I am so impressed with the quality of their pastries. Normally, when I go to a bakery, that has various pastries, rarely do I find the pastries delicious or matches the standards I expect. This place has matched my expectations, they have beautifully coloured ribboned croissants with a surprise jam inside that perfectly matches the wonderfully buttery crispiness of the croissant. Their jams are house-made and have unique jam flavors that you cannot expect from a large corporation like Smuckers such as mango lemongrass, strawberry basil, etc. I've also tried their cheesecake and oh my goodness, it is the BEST cheesecake I've ever had. I think its probably as good as I imagined Mama's Lil Bakery in Chicago Illinois cheesecake (for all you Friends fans out there). Go support this wonderful local joint on 17th, you won't be disappointed.

I really enjoyed the decor with the pixel art and side-wall counter top. The coffee was excellent. I had the flight and it gave me a wonderful experience. The customer service was very welcoming, informative and caring. The croissant was a bit different than i'm used to, while it looked great on Instagram, I felt like it was too crispy and didn't have as much of the soft texture as traditional croissant that I'm looking for. My girlfriend was also disappointed that they didn't carry raw sugar which she really enjoyed. Note: I visited on a holiday, so possible the baked goods selection were different than regular working days. Overall: A nice place to sit-down for a coffee and quiet conversation with friends and family.

Super chill cafe and croissant was so fresh, it’s made in the store and you can smell it right when you come in. Also noticed they back fresh bread later in the day that you could pick up for dinner. Came here for yyc hot chocolate fest for a couple of years. The staff are so nice. They explain the drink to you and ask you if you have any other questions about the product. Once my drink was done they came around the counter and handed it to me, even though it was to-go. Not to mention the banana split hot chocolate this year is SO GOOD. always a pleasure visiting even if I do not come very often

I went here after 5 on a Sunday and they were mostly sold out unfortunately, but understandibly. The man helping me (I think maybe the owner) said he made everything himself! I tried the raspberry croissant which was super tasty! Will be returning again perhaps earlier for more selection.

I had been hearing so much hype about Black Sheep croissants and oh boy it did NOT disappoint... Airy, buttery, flaky. Beware however, highly addictive... I'll be craving these for a long time. Exquisite, such a cool place. Quite the variety of hand crafted authentic pastries.

Coffee tasted good (only redeemimg feature), but service was subpar. Ordered a coffee with oat milk and I waited 10 minutes for my drink. People who ordered after me got their order first? Anyway, my drink came with dairy instead of oat milk and the lady gave me attitude and an upset face that she had to remake my coffee. It took another 10 minutes. No apology, nothing. Could've gone elsewhere and not waited 20 mins got a coffee.

The best French pastries in Calgary! Everything is always exceptionally fresh and perfect quality. They take care to make sure their treats are not overly sweet, but so flavorful and delicious with a beautiful presentation. Highly recommend.

Waited outside in the snow for half an hour and when I got in, all the pastries were packaged up for pick up. No one bothered telling people waiting outside that everything was sold out. Asked the lady if next time she could say something and she laughed at me. Unfriendly and impatient staff, expensive pastries. Wouldn't go back. A true gem on 17th. Benjamin and his team are consistently going above and beyond to make the customer the top priority, even during these unprecedented times. I applaud them for taking a stand against people not wanting to wear masks and they will 100% be getting my business even more so.

Amaaazzing croissants! I love how they are not soaked in grease (like some places) but just the right amount of buttery-ness and crisp. Their fruit jams are amazing. Raspberry and blueberry croissants are a must try. They "pull" their shots differently from other coffee shops but it's the European style I love. And the gentlemen there are always smiling and so friendly, makes me happy to be there :) Thanks for opening up in Calgary!

Black Sheep has the most amazing pastries! I don't stop in very often, but when that buttery goodness hits my lips I know there is no better place in Calgary to find a croissant. Buttery, flaky, just superb. You can taste the dedication their team has to making the best pastries. This is a place best enjoyed when you want a slower pace, this isnt Starbucks, this is a place to be mindful and enjoy every delicious sip and bite.

The employee that served us was very knowledgeable. Has a french accent so it reminds me of cafe's in Paris. The pastries that we tried were the chocolate croissant and the ham croissant. Both were delightful and decadent. Very rich flavour that delivers more flavour as you let it settle in your mouth. I highly recommend this place.

Hands down, best croissants in the city. I’m a huge chocolate lover but the raspberry croissant is actually my favourite. After consuming many Black Sheep croissants, I decided to try the tiramisu the other day. Absolute perfection. I don’t love the drinks (I’m not a coffee drinker) or atmosphere (some of the seating is uncomfortable) here but the pastries more than make up for both.

Amazing pastries in YYC. They remind me the craft bakeries of Europe. Just go and try it!

Best croissant I've had outside of Europe. Amazing. I've been telling everyone I know ever since I found it and can't wait to go back. Steve is very nice and his photography (on the walls of the cafe) is beautiful. Can't wait to come back!
