I purchased one for my mom's 70th birthday. I ordered the lemon cake with berry filling. There were many layers of filling and it was so delicious that my nephew wanted one for his birthday too. My husband and I ordered our wedding cake from 8Cakes, and it was absolutely gorgeous and melt-in-your-mouth delicious! I love how the chocolate cake wasn't overwhelming and the vanilla buttercream icing had the perfect amount of sweetness. They delivered on time and perfectly arranged the flowers from our florist. I ordered a custom birthday cake for my husband's 30th birthday. The red velvet cake had a good flavour and wasn't too sweet. I have provided a picture of what I asked for vs what I got. When you pay a premium price you expect a premium product, and that's not what we got here. Overall the workmanship was shoddy (it really wouldn't have taken much to redo the border pictured) and she spelt my husbands name wrong. When informed of the mispelling of his name all she replied was "oh so sorry" and nothing further. Overall the cake tasted ok but the customer service and design left a lot to be desired.

I called 8 Cakes to inquire about a last-minute birthday cake. A vegan birthday cake no less. Absolutely, she said. How AMAZING! I popped into the bakery to pick it up and learned about her vegan cakesicles and macaroons of all flavours. The cake was beautiful and just freshly prepared. A piece of art really. No one wanted to cut into it. But it looked too delicious so the deed was done with no regrets upon tasting. Art for the eyes. Art for the mouth. Highly recommend! And she does non-vegan treats too.

It’s always a struggle to find good cakes in Calgary. My partner surprised me with one of the best cakes I had to date from 8 Cakes on my birthday. It was a strawberry lemonade cake and everything was perfect. The taste was exquisite, just enough buttercream, not too much and oozing lemon curd in the middle. Would highly recommend if you want to taste some great quality cake!

We ordered the Dairy Free Black Forest cake off their website for our elopement and it was amazing! We've ordered from them before and we wanted to try the black forest with chocolate vegan butter cream (instead of the vanilla/coconut) and she was so accommodating. It was just a simple elopement so we weren't too fused about the decoration and were happy with the standard design, but she went above and beyond to make it special (including adding flowers to the top) and it turned out so beautiful! Yesterday we had our first ever cake from 8cakesyyc. We went for a basic double chocolate (eggless) which turned out to be amazing! Literally the best cake we ever had! I have gotten 2 vegan custom birthday cakes from them, and one was also gluten free, and they were both DELICIOUS! so moist and perfect ratio of cake to filling and frosting. I'm not a frosting/buttercream fan, and that was even before going vegan.. BUT ate it all and still wanted more of their vegan chocolate frosting! Not too sweet, super light and fluffy, just absolutely perfect! I've also had their macaroons and cakesicles, it's all SO GOOD! You can't go wrong. Highly recommend! The owner is also very lovely and responds quickly.

My sister has ordered vegan and gluten free birthday cakes from 8cakes three times last year, everytime they have over delivered on our ask. I tried their Cakesickles and Cake-in-jar last week and must say they were truly delicious as well. We grabbed some macarons a few weeks back and they were incredible. Then when it came time for my daughter to go to a friend’s birthday party, I knew I could safely get a dairy free cupcake here. It’s been a few days and she’s still talking about the Rainbow cupcake!! The next day it was my son’s birthday party. He is recently gluten free and this has been really tough for him. Not only did I know he could enjoy one of these cupcakes safely, he was shocked when I told him it was diary and gluten free!!! I have celiac disease and can’t have dairy, it’s dangerous having this wonderful shop just a few blocks away. The food is as amazing as it looks.

I ordered several dozen party favours for my Dad’s 80th birthday, which was on St. Patrick’s Day. The party was to be online due to health regulations, but I wanted participants to have cake. 8cakes suggested. cakesicles, and I also ordered macarons. For hygiene reasons, I asked that they be individually packaged. The macarons came in attractive clear boxes with a candy garnish and green shredded paper, and the cakesicles were decorated with green shamrocks or little pots of gold and wrapped nicely. They made very special party favours, and were delicious.

Ordered a custom cake over a month in advanced and was very disappointed. Wrong icing, forgot to add a happy birthday line as requested. When asked to fix they add a tacky plaque which didn't match the cake with poor printing. When I expressed my disappointment there wasn't much they would do. I was the one to come up with a suggestion. Over priced and poor customer service. Not even a sorry. I would avoid. Further more to the owners comments. I requested a custom cake and didn't blink an eye at the price. I have a full email chain reviewing the reuqest. As well,.full apologies if you're staff felt I treated them unfiar. But when a CUSTOMER spends money on a product (full payment prior to pick up) I feel it's completely fair to review what was requested and what was received and express disappointment if the request was not made. Covid is hard for everyone I don't discount anyone having a bad day. But when a customer comes in for pick up and doesn't receive what theyve paid for...that's not my fault. Don't judge me on pricing when I'm capable of paying $150+ if I want..

I can't recommend 8 Cakes enough! I was looking for a bakery that had vegan options for a birthday party, and I'm so happy I stumbled upon this one. The owner got back to my inquiry within minutes even though I sent her an email at like 9 PM. She worked closely with me to ensure I got the (very specific lmao) image I wanted on my cake and that all the allergy specifications were met. I wanted to yell when I saw it in person because it's exactly what I had in mind! When we cut into the cake (vanilla with strawberry buttercream), I was elated to find that there were real chunks of strawberry in the buttercream. It was so delicious and the non-vegans in the group had no idea the cake was vegan! It was super moist and not too sweet. I also bought a few of the vegan/gluten free cream filled cookies and they're to die for! I'm definitely coming back again.

Ordered the Salted Caramel Vegan cake for my sister's birthday. I've ordered several vegan cakes around the city and this is the first time from 8 Cakes. The girl in the front was very friendly and gave me instructions on how long to take the care out before serving it. Vegan cakes 30 minutes and their regular cakes 1 hour. This cake was a huge hit. My sister loved it. The caramel was amazing and really can't believe it's vegan. The icing was light and the sweetness was perfect. The cakes was dense and so moist. The cake was not over sweet like all vegan cakes we've had. Everyone enjoyed the cake and we will definitely order another from here again. Thank you!! Honestly this is the best vegan cake in the city.

Great customer service and cute little bakery. We ordered a gender reveal cake and asked for the interior icing to be the gender reveal (blue or pink). While the cake was delicious (although a bit dry) the entire cake was pink which completely gave away the surprise of the inside gender reveal. This was even more disappointing when we cut into the cake and realized that the icing was the exact same mix so there was really no surprise. Not sure how this could be screwed up but I would advise that if anyone orders a gender reveal cake, be specific that the outside icing is a different color.

A few of us bought a cake for a friend and were disappointed. The cake looked different from what we expected and it tasted like it has been frozen for too long. Asked for a refund when we saw the cake, but she refused. A while later, she did offer to refund if we returned it, but it was too late. We already used it to celebrate and it was already cut opened.

We ordered a 6” salted caramel gluten free cake for my husband’s birthday. First off, the cakes are stunning, it’s just a beautiful looking cake for a special occasion. Second, it tastes so so good! The cake is moist and the icing isn’t too sweet, just right. You would never guess it’s gluten free. There are only 4 of us and the 6” is perfect. It’s so so rich that a small wedge is still substantial on your plate and just the right amount. We could have served 6 people for sure with this cake. I also picked up some macaroons, they are also just beautiful, little works of art. I love a chewy texture and not ok flakey and these were exactly that. I loved the different flavours too. What a treat! Thank you!

Very accommodating! I had requested to deliver on a day they were not typically delivering due to Covid, and Sirine was wonderful even when we asked for another change. The cake and cupcakes were delicious and hard to tell that they were vegan! Definitely will order in the future.

My birthday cake had a great presentation but lack sweetness and moisture. I think the recipe was not balanced properly to overcome the baking powder texture and taste. I would recommend trying a sample slice before placing a full order cake.

I was excited to have a new bakery here after the previous one left the area. I stopped in for a cinnamon bun and it was...not good. The dough was heavy and bread-like and it was absolutley drenched in this sickly sweet-syrupy icing sugar frosting. I honestly had to toss it after taking a bite. I'm not sure if it was an off batch or this is the standard.

Tried couple vegan items. I think the first one was some sort of chocolate item in a shape of a cinnamon bun but reminded me somewhat of a texture of a cake and was bit harder on the outside but soft/chewy in the inside. Thought I was eating a crossover cake maybe? A bit on the sweet side. Had an almond birthday cake cookie. Thought I'd try & again didn't know what to expect. It was honestly, okay. The buttery tasting icing type filling inside was different. The experience for the vegan items I had was okay but probably would head to Canela instead. I appreciate their efforts to add vegan items though. The staff was super friendly.

The very talented Sirine made the most fantastic Dinosaur themed cake! AND, cake pops!!! Everyone (kids & adults) devoured the delicious lemon cake and GF cake pops. The second time that I went to 8 cakes was very recently when she made a spectacular pink lips cake for one of my staff's 30th birthdays. So pretty and stunning and mouthwatering! My girlfriend bought me a vegan cake for my birthday last year and it was so delicious i had to return the favour when her birthday came around. I have to say MY organizational skills weren't the best and I ordered it the day before and 8 Cakes went out of there way to make a customized cake over night ready for collection the following day. Fantastic bakery in Marda Loop! We had a gender reveal cake as well as cakesicles, which are so good and super cute - bigger versions of a cake pop, made for our reveal (zoom call - so everyone could have a little piece). The cake/cakesicles were beautiful and packaged so cute for our drop offs (which was a huge help!) but more importantly, everything tasted amazing. We also had some dietary restrictions (vegan) and they were easily able to accommodate... actually for anything vegan, this is my go to bakery. They were very responsive, helpful and friendly when contacted by email and really made my vision come to life. Can't thank you enough, definitely will be a day I remember forever.

I ordered a gluten free and vegan cake from 8 cakes and everyone who ate it couldn't believe it was gf and vegan. It was so soft and fluffy and had just the right amount of sweetness. I will be ordering from this lovely lady in the future!
