There are not enough superlatives for the 2 cakes Gary made for my wife’s birthday! Service was also top notch. I highly highly highly recommend this place.

The most delicious carrot cake I’ve ever had! I bought the 6” Pineapple Walnut Carrot cake for my friends birthday and every bite was just delicious and overflowing with flavour. This recipe is just perfect and we ended up finishing the cake in minutes

Thank you for this awesome cake! My family all love it so much. Mango is perfectly ripen and sweet, and the cake is moist and not too sweet (great combination). Just beautiful!

I sent a few concerns to Gary after the order and were able to get response in time. We were going to pickup the cake by bus after shopping. However, the weather turned to heavy rain and we didn't take a proper umbrella, we were all wet. Gary and his wife were very kindhearted, they offered a ride to us and sent us to the bus stop. The cake looks exactly like durian and was light sweet and delicious. We definitely recommend this bakery shop.

Confusion, confusion, confusion. Thats what Garys Patisserie is all about. Visiting Vancouver my bucket list had Garys for the awesome reviews and I am all about new pastries and sweet meats. First the GPS took us to a warehouse, 10 mins of searching and calling Gary’s we got to know they don’t have a location to walk into. It sounded like a very shady deal in a movie. We found the location and a lady came out and said no getting inside but simply order looking at a paper menu. Talk about being famous. We ordered anyways and waited for 10 mins where we were greeted by 4-5 customers who were as confused as us. A lady came running out with our jars and paper bags and I excitedly pull my jar out after paying. And I see GELATIN, don’t get me wrong I know what gelatin is and where its used but I don’t consume any. So if I had the option of looking at either the menu online or walk into a store and make my choice and walk out VS. Paying money and not getting to eat. So not recommend!!

Amazing Mango Cake! Can't imagine how much work must go into making one of these cakes, they do a great job and it's delicious!

I recently discovered this place by chance while having my car serviced down the street. Fantastic cakes with both Western and Asian flavours. I love the carrot cake and my mother-in-law in her 70s, who doesn't like overly sugary things, raved about the chestnut cake we picked up for her birthday. There isn't a storefront and there isn't much parking, but once you get the hang of advance ordering, find the door, and realize that it's easier to park on the street, all is well.

Ordered the 3D durian cake. It is a delightful spectacle and heavenly bite. If this was Shokugeki no Soma, I’d be floating on a durian cloud in my birthday suit, drifting across a soft sunrise. I hate the smell of durian so I’ve never tried it until now. Gary’s durian cake has changed me. I now smile when I think of durian. I got it for my brother’s birthday and he was overjoyed. Worth getting for a special event. It’s a show stopper AND incredibly delicious. Not too sweet ;) Also tried these cakes in a jar: Mango lychee - My absolute favourite. Like an elevated mango pudding you’d get at dim sum Carrot pineapple - Love the addition of pineapple, but it could have been more moist. I bet the whole cake version is better. Black Forest - I wanted a more dense rich chocolate flavour, but it was light and the cream made up for the richness. Could have used more cherries or have it soaked in the sponge. If you get this jar, I suggest mixing it up.

Update: Gary reached out promptly to apologize for the cake not meeting our expectations. I felt like Gary really did appreciate our feedback. We decided to try another cake, the durian with fresh fruit on top. I can see why Gary’s cakes are so popular with this one. The natural sweetness of the durian in combination with the fluffy cake and not overly sweet cream, made for an amazing cake. We should have gone with the cake that had the most positive reviews and recommendations, than going off the board the first time with the purple yam cake. We will definitely be getting the durian cake again next time. Thanks Gary for the great customer service and cake. Original Review: I ordered the purple yam cake for my wife’s birthday. We both had high hopes since this was our first time ordering from Gary’s. We’ve heard great things from our friends as well. Presentation wise, the cake looked nice and the top looked like there was effort put in to it. No issues here. The taste of the purple yam layer of the cake however, was pretty disappointing. We’ve heard that Gary’s cakes were on the lesser sweet side and that’s what we prefer as well. However the purple yam layer was pretty flavourless. It tasted just like regular yam for a savoury dish stuck between layers of cake. We had many other purple yam desserts before so it’s definitely not a new flavour for us. The cake layer was fluffy and good. Perhaps Gary’s other cakes are great but the purple yam cake we experienced was definitely the low light of my wife’s birthday.

We had our wedding cake from Gary’s this past weekend and we were floored! We’ve had his cakes before but the wedding cake was amazing! The process was seamless, communication was quick and the flavor was exactly what we wanted. The cake was also beautiful (I wish I took a picture)! Highly recommend getting any kind of custom cake from Gary’s!
