We got the birthday cake in Dino shape for our kids birthday from here. The cake was was baked perfectly and tasted excellent. They offer multiple colour choices for frosting and we got it customized. Also got their baked cookies - almond one will simply crumble in your mouth! Great Tasting Bakery. Excellent Customer service for most part. I highly recommend their cakes. Just make sure when it is being boxed that the top part does not press down on the icing layer in case you have something special written on it. One time, one part of it got smushed.

The Valley bakery has been my go to bakery since the early 90’s. The cookies are a weakness of mine and the sausage rolls can’t be beat. You can’t find quality like this anywhere else in all of Vancouver. Jack been an active member of the community, volunteering his time for community pancake breakfasts and other events. I’m happy to support this local family business. Unfortunately I recently moved away from the lower mainland. I find myself reminiscing over the gingerbread and Christmas treats which had become a tasty tradition for our family during the holidays. If you haven’t been, try it out. Your tastebuds will thank you.

Their butter tarts. OMG!! I am a raisins in kinda gal and pretty sure they use currants which are even better! Great flaky pastry. Nice little tarts with good ratio of patry:filling. I am also hopelessly hooked on their plain white dinner rolls. So good! I have tried a few of the mousse desserts and found the strawberry to be lackluster in flavor but the key lime tart is superb! This is now my go-to bakery (but I go to Fortuna for my meringues which Valley doesn't have).

A must-go place for cakes, cookies and pastries. Great customer service.They have an awesome collection of mini pastries and each of them taste very special too. They match up the prices well too. They offer the cookie collection 12 cookies for 12 CAD and you can mix and match the cookies. I bought a mix of cookies, veggie rolls and a mix of 3 mini pastries (Walnut, choclate hot dog and mocha).

I bought cherry turnovers and some fruit shortbread - the service was good and fast, even though I had to wait outside for my turn! Beware the low quality and desserts that are often filled with artificial flavourings and colours. The key lime tarts were an unnatural fake green colour and it tasted like citrus cleaner, burning my mouth. Then we tried their carrot cake. The sign said carrot cake, and my partner asked the clerk for carrot cake. We returned home and it was a pumpkin spice cake, to our disappointment. It was way too sweet and the frosting piped on the outside tasted more like a cool whip petroleum based product than a buttercream or whipped cream. It left a funny aftertaste in the mouth, just like the tarts, so once again we're suspicious there were artificial flavours used. For such an expensive cake, the quality is cheap.

I always drove by this bakery but finally I visited it over the weekend. I arrived around 5pm, so it was the end of the day that they almost sold out most of the cookies and pastries. They have a ticket system, so customers must get a number and wait for a server to call. The bakery has two doors. One is going in and one is exiting due to covid. The bakery has bread, lots of cookies and pastries, and savoury items like veggie and sausage rolls. I bought their Christmas tree hangers which were very cute (see photos) and a couple of sausage rolls. The Christmas tree hangers were ginger bread cookies with chocolate coating and a small Christmas decoration. I am keeping one for myself and give the rest to others. The sausage rolls tasted fine but not super outstanding. I would recommend others to come here if they would like to buy cookies, bread and pastries. They have a wide variety of items. Sometimes I find it’s hard to choose when there are so many options. There is free street parking nearby, so it’s very convenient. ????????

I have had a several birthday cakes from Valley Bakery and despite being nicely decorated, they have all been dry and mediocre. Most of these cakes have been at kids bday parties and once a cake my husband bought for my birthday. Recently, I thought I would give Valley another shot and I paid $40 for an 8x8 cake for a someone's birthday at my office. I called to order at 9:30am and asked if it would be okay to pick up around noon and they said no problem. When I got there to pick up the cake, they said it was still a bit frozen. It was last minute, but I was still pretty surprised that a $40 cake was frozen! In the end the cake didn't get eaten because it was so dry and the middle and all the fruit on top was still frozen. I feel like this cake must have been sitting in the freezer for a long time before I bought it, it tasted so stale! You are better off spending much less on a cake that at least tastes freshly baked from Save On Foods or Costco.

We asked Valley Bakery if it was possible to make us a cake that was "sugar free" - or mostly free of added simple sugars (including agave syrup, which is very high in fructose). They came up with a new recipe using erythritol as the sweetner. Erythritol does not lead to an increase in blood sugar levels in people with diabetes and is a low calorie sweetner that does not have the same problem as other sugar alcohols in causing gastrointestinal issues. The plus is that it is ideal for baking. The resulting cake was one that we could truly all have and eat it too! It was absolutely delicious - with real cream, nuts and fruit. We are trying to come up with more family get togethers to enjoy the cake - but there is no need for a special occasion to consume this little scrumptious treat one can eat frequently without regret.

Although there were 4 people at the front and nobody else waiting, I was surprised I had to ask for service. One of the 4 grudgingly served me. we just bought a few small burger buns to see if it tastes good and it does! I was eying their cakes but it only looks like sponge cake. not sure if there is variety and such but you should call first. and cakes go up to $20+ for 12' or so, but it might change depending on what type you choose. they have cake toppers for kids and I haven't seen any wedding style cakes, you could ask. cookies looked small compared to what we usually see but I will have to try what they taste like. staff were really good and very helpful. it does seem that they are very very busy. we came in and 3-5 people were already there and they looked like they have been coming here for a long time. there is a #ticket so people can be served but the ticket was not really obvious so we had a good 1 min to search for it. place is a bit cramped when having 5 people, so make sure you give distance as well before stepping in. I'll be coming back for sure.

Ordered Rum balls for my boyfriend's birthday. No real rum in them, no discount offered unless you're ordering into the hundreds, which is probably unmanageable for upwards of 95% of their clientele. Wanted to order a cake, too, for me to eat, but they weren't willing to customize it for the small size I wanted. Our place has a small fridge and I ended up going to Safeway and buying one way too big. It's a good bakery, but they're certainly not going out of their way to excel in customer service. They'll end up closing soon enough, I'm sure. There are much mourned places with better customer service that have had to close because of how hard it is now for small businesses and then there's the eventual modernization of Hastings Street coming.

Got several items. The lemon and keylime tarts had amazing filling but the tart cups were very generic store bought quality. The rumballs were delicious. The raspberry tower cupcake was also good but fell short (wish they filled it with jam instrad of leaving a very dry cupcake). The treasure chest chocolate piece was actually very revolting, my friends couldn't finish it and threw them away. Lastly, the braided french bread was very dry and didn't taste even close to french bread, just very tasteless. Not a good bakery in my eyes and I'll try some of the other local ones instead.

I happened upon this phenomenal bakery, while visiting another business to pick up the book I ordered. Even thru my mask, various aromas and the most friendly staff greeted me! While I was offered help by other employees; it was Carma's lovely smile and patience with me, that really stood out! Having not been in this business before, I needed time to wade thru freshly baked goodies, homemade breads, mounds of buttercream, and a endless array of cookies! I've been going here since I was a child, and there are some things that they bake better than anywhere else... try their cinnamon twists. Also, there are lots of well-priced savory items (ie. a decent sausage roll selection) if you need a less-sweet snack for the kids :-)

We'll figure something out, but there's going to be a little bit of disappointment for my 6 year old. I was happy to see that this bakery is still around after being in the same neighbourhood for decades. I had the opportunity to check out the place again after a long absence. They provided an assortment of baked goodies for the holidays – Christmas cake, Christmas stollen, sugar cookies, pastries and cakes. I only bought a loaf of currant bread which was baked to perfection. It had plenty of currants which was still fresh after a couple of days. Not like other bakeries that have a few bits of raisins in each slice. It was under $5 a loaf. I don’t mind paying a bit extra if it’s good. I wasn’t disappointed. They sell an assortment of breads, rolls, cookies, and cakes. Unfortunately, if you’re one or two people, it doesn’t work if you have to buy 12. They don’t offer single quantities to purchase. They also sell vegan products along with frozen puff pastry. My only concern is that it’s a small place and having more than 15 patrons inside made me feel a little uneasy with Covid. Too bad they didn’t limit a certain number of people inside.

I love cookies and pastry from the Valley bakery. I went there 3 times all the way from Abbortsford. But I never go back there. A person who worked there thought I don't know how to read English. I couldn't read name of the cookie because there was no sign for that cookie. Her attitude wasn't right for the customer.

Hands down best bakery. Everything is made with fresh whipped cream and real butter and baked daily in the bakery. Things have changed a bit, but I am hoping this gem stays the way it is as long as possible. The marzipan logs and eccles cakes are heavenly.

Rude customer service! The lady who served us is an Asian with dark hair. We told her multiple times that we wanted the Santa cupcake, she said yes and still forgot to put it in (picture attached) and she used a small box to fit a tall decorated snowman cupcake, and squashed it down, ruining the snowman. Our 4-year old son was upset as we came to the bakery for him. We were planning to purchase more but because of her impatient attitude, we feel rushed by her so we didn’t buy as much as we had hoped. This is our first time coming to the bakery and after this service given to us, will be our last.

A take out dessert place with huge selections of sweets from bakery goods, various butter cookies, decorated cupcakes, customized cakes... etc. My favorites are whipped cream donut and lemon buttefly cake. They've limited 4 customers each time and masks are now mandatoryin the store, but one of the lady didn't wear her gloves when she was serving a customer before me. Hope they can be more concerned about it.

I do not know how you mess up a brownie. Tried a variety of treats, I prefer a bakery that doesn't have artificial flavor like those lime tarts! It tasted like a lime mentos. We purchased about 5-8 sweets. I did not get to try any other bakery items such as bread due to me not purchasing them. However they offer a wide range of product! The lemon tart was actually pretty good. They did not taste very artificial. The ladies that were working were pleasant and friendly!

The line was always long when I passed by, so I was very curious. Today, i finally had the chance to visit here. The staff was super friendly. There were so many goodies... The Dutch Bakery in Victoria is my minimum standard for Dutch treats. Although there is lots of variety here, I'd say the flavours are not as prominent (doughnut only ok, vanilla slice, mocha roll). The upside is The Valley Bakery pastries are not overly sweet and prices are extremely affordable. I will be back to try some other items.

There was a line to get in waited outside for about 45 mins with my bubble of 3 we all waited to go in one by one to go in til someone came out and picked out every thing we wanted.but one of the baker was rude and mean told us that one of us had to leave cause there a line of people.. 20-30 minutes with each customer, 4 customers in the store at a time, 4 employees working the counter. Just expect to wait outside for an hour or two. I would say I loved or hated the baked goods but you can't get in to try anything. When a business has a year to adapt a streamlined method and fails... It just shows incompetence on the highest level.

Nicely asked staff if they could rewrite on my cake and after some time of confusion and weird looks from the back of the house, I get the “Take it or leave it” attitude from them. Ordered a nut-free cake for my mom's 50th birthday. When we went in, they had put peanut shavings around the cake. ??? They couldn't give us any other cake for her birthday and since it was to be picked up on the day of her birthday, we weren't able to order a cake elsewhere. So disappointed since the only thing she had asked for was "a cake from Valley Bakery."

Valley Bakery is a great place! We went there for a sugar free cake and was amazed at how much other stuff they have. I felt seriously like a kid in a candy store, so overwhelemed by everything. The staff was so helpful and kind. The actual treats were good, nothing fantastic but for sure did the trick. The sugar free cake however was AMAZING!!!!! We have gone back now a few times for the sugar free cake even when we dont need it to be sugar free. Simple and delicious!!!! Thanks ValleyBakery! :)

I wanna go back but to think she'll make mistakes again on my order it's makes me hesitate. The service has really deteriorated to the point of being non-existent. I went in today and the bakery was empty as the prior customer had just left. I walked up to the service counter and stood there waiting for service while 4 staff members completely ignored me. After about 4 minutes of waiting I just walked out of the bakery. I was shocked that I was not served or even acknowledged. The baked goods are of high quality and I used to be a very frequent happy customer, but now I feel the service is just so bad that I realize I'll have to find another place to shop.

I don't know much about baking, but their selection is great and everything I've tried has been delicious. Overcharged transaction to my credit card - I used the tap option on my credit card, and due to the height of the counter, I couldn’t see the amount that was listed on the machine. After I got home, I realized they added an entire digit to my total amount ($x.xx became $xx.xx instead). Credit company would not let me dispute because tapping means you authorized the amount at the point of purchase :( so PLEASE VERIFY the amount you are paying with the counter person before you tap! The fruit pastries I got were not fresh. I think the pastry might have been a couple days old, as the fruit was leaking moisture/juices onto the pastry itself, causing it to be soggy (and the fruit to appear deflated). Maybe if you pick the right time and day to go it would be alright. But price-wise it’s a pretty good deal. Just not as good of a deal for me because I got overcharged by a whole figure :(

We waited very patiently outside in the line (because they only allow 4 people inside, which I think is very good) then after approximately 15min of waiting, we entered for the first time, obviously we wanted to see everything they had in detail to choose from, it took us 2 minutes or less inside because the girl who attended told us that there are more people waiting outside and that we have to hurry in a not very friendly tone, which is very ridiculous since there were two other people inside waiting to be attended and 3 girls who work there without being able to attend them because: we still did not decide? Why didn't they just attend to those who already knew they were going to order? so they could have given us at least 5 minutes inside after 15min or more of waiting outside to get in, terrible service.

The absolute BEST bakery! Everything is made with real cream and butter. The cookies are fabulous and the eccles cakes are heavenly. They are made in a cast iron pan at this location, nobody makes them better! I also love the petit fours and the marzipan logs! Totally worth the drive. No matter where I am, if I'm in the lower mainland, I make a point to stop by.

Cake was dry and bland. We got a plain vanilla cake. Staff was friendly, but not accommodating to simple requests. Limited colours for writting anything on the cake unless its ordered ahead of time. Maybe its best to order ahead of time for freshness rather than pick up a ready made cake.

So we went here to get a cake for my husband’s 50th Birthday 2 weeks in advance. Went to pick it up and they say they lost the ticket. Even though the girl that took my order remembers me. There solution was Sorry and here is your store credit. Total BS or two small cakes nothing like the I ordered. Would only recommend if you want disappointment. Staff tried to help but manager ignored me and was useless

Prices are ok, service was not very good. Products are not labeled, so it's difficult to convey what product you want to the salesperson. Number dispenser is nest to the exit. (This is particularly brilliant.) Pick a number sign is not prominently displayed. Social distancing is impossible with the layout they have. Won't be back.
