Just visited this bakery. Went there because it was the only place open before 7am in downtown Nanaimo. What a great bakery, the baked goods (cheese cakes, Nanaimo bars) were the best I've eaten. This is a must visit spot, and the people are great (because they are former Edmontonians!)

as with any new coffee shop i wonder.. will i take one sip and dump my 5$ drink cause they dont know how to steam drinks properly... well ....LOW AND BEHOLD i finally found a place that can make an amazing london fog, i even came back right after to try the lattes and the lady blew my freakin mind!!!! she did some sort of witchery with the machine and made my drinks perfectly !!!!! if your a coffee nut like me youll appreciate this place, the latte has a joes on commercial st in vancouver taste ! yum thank you for exceeding my low expectations LOL(being amazing is a lost art o-k!) and smashing the glass ceiling that was really refreshing! service was amazing ! will be back and ill tell all my friends!

There are a few spots to sit down, in-store, for a bite. While the delectable entrees include taco-lasagna, pulled pork-mac & cheese and meatloaf & mashed potatoes, to name just a few, deserts are the specialty. Best of the best here are the many varieties of cheesecake! Unparalleled. Red's Bakery can deliver, same price as pick up! Coming to Nanaimo, of course one has to try the Nanaimo Bar. We chose Red's Bakery after reading about their award-winning Nanaimo Bar. The first day we went, they were sold out. We went back another morning and got them! The proportion of chocolate to custard to coconut-graham is generous and decadent. Definitely come here for your Nanaimo Bar.

Best late night food you can buy with money. You want something better? Contact the devil. Got a chili and a sandwich. With a Nanaimo bar, gave both a quick microwave when I got home (as I requested) best sandwich I've had in ages. The staff here knows what they're doing. Price reflects the late night hours and portion size. (The Nanaimo bar is the size of a small car) Presentation is like any bakery, you're paying for good food, and that's what you're getting. You will be seeing me again to try the other Nanaimo bar flavours ????

EVERYTHING looks absolutely fantastic and I had a hard time deciding. Staff was very friendly and described several options. Verdict of the 3 cheesecakes I took home? Too sweet - like not sickly sweet, but like it wasn't tasty enough to enjoy. I hear people rave about Reds Bakery, and say that it's open 24hrs but it's been closed twice when I've been by. I hear next time I go to order the sausage rolls, that their food items are better than there desserts

Walking around Commercial Street in Nanaimo my wife and I dropped into Reds Bakery. The young lady behind the counter was so pleasant and explained the eye catching products we purchased a few goodies. We came back the following day and purchased some of the best deserts and bread. The quality of their food is good and the front staff is friendly. I have been here three times, about 2 months apart. They never have anything vegetarian or vegan, so I have to eat a sweet item like their pastries which are good but was hoping for something savoury. It's not that difficult to make a quiche without the bacon. We bought some pastries to sit and enjoy in the cafe, but we had to take disposable cups and plates. Hard when you're trying to be kind to the environment. I mean it's 2019 and most people including A&W and Tim Horton's have adjusted their menu with the times, and you can get a ceramic mug there. When I inquired, the owner looked indifferent to both the vegetarian/vegan question and my waste reduction effort. The decor is uninspired.

This is by far my new favourite late night spot. After 9pm the options for walk-in food in the downtown core are quite slim. This little gem of a place is perfect for those that keep unconventional hours. Fresh made food. A daily rotation of homestyle options. Delectable baked goods. Locally owned, and run by some of the niceat people. You can't go wrong stopping for a bite at Red's Bakery. PS. The Bailey's and Raspberry Nanaimo bars are amazing!

What an awesome little find!! A lady I know from the hotel I work at came by and asked if I wanted cheesecake at 3 ish am , I started to laugh when she told me about this place! No way, I thought, was a bakery only open in the middle of the night, open between I think they said 10pm and 5 am, very random but very good. You walk in and you're hungry! We ordered some Shepard pie and cheesy pasta to take home and bake and it was so delicious! Not to mention how amazing the Oreo cheesecake was. Highly recommended this place.

I overnight in Nanaimo for work and have gone a few times to Red’s bakery for breakfast/on the go lunch. They’re open pretty much 24/7, which makes it a lot easier for me to find meals with an early work schedule. Their baked goods are very delicious! I’ve tried their muffins, and the breakfast pocket which was recommended to me by one of the staff, and man was it amazing. I will definitely be returning here. P.S. it’s a very much take and go place, there’s no seating, and the drinks are alright. But they’re a bakery and specialize in baked goods so don’t expect them to be something else

Solid Nanaimo Bar, infact they have the title for it in 2019 and 2020. I will mention it’s a good level of sweetness, considering how sweet Nanaimo bars typically are and would say it’s a must try if you’re in town! Although I stuck with the original, they have different flavours like peanut butter that are worth trying. All their baked books are made in house!

Hidden gem on Commercial St in Nanaimo! Had the Chicken Pot Pie & Bacon Spinach Quiche. “It just came hot out of the oven” Red’s owner Trevor was quick point out. Crust was very flaky and the pie and quiche had amazing flavours. A great way to start off our 7am morning. Trevor was very friendly and welcoming. He recommended the Raspberry Cinnamon Bun so we had that to go. Too full to eat it but I’m sure it’s just as good as the pie and quiche that he recommended. Everything is baked fresh from their in store bakery.

The biggest cinnamon buns I've ever seen! The quiche tartlet for breakfast hit the spot and the beef meatballs are delicious. The pork meatballs are good, with a mild spicy kick. I got breakfast, lunch and a large tea for $22! Highly recommend the "Cinnful Creations" at Red's Bakery. P. S. Red's makes peanut butter Nanaimo bars - in Nanaimo!

I had a nanaimo bar and my boyfriend and my sister had a chocolate mousse brownie. They were both so so good. The treats are very large in size for a very good price and the treats are quality. I have heard they also have amazing ice cream in the summer so I will have to go back again in the future!

I have yet to get anything from Red's that I didn't like! This is a small business that I am happy to support, especially with so many struggling to survive through the pandemic. I applaud their efforts to keep their staff and customers safe. I understand that some people don't like to be asked to wear masks, however those people seem to forget that they are still strongly recommended indoors regardless of your vaccination status, AND that a business can choose to require masks to enter. They do not HAVE to serve you. And as someone who is fully vaccinated and therefore allowed to go maskless as per the government, I am more than happy to keep mine on to keep myself and others safe as a precaution, including the staff at Red's. They do offer masks if you don't have one, and due to space and the health of their staff they limit the number of people who can enter at a time. I am 100000000% okay with this - if someone hasn't learned to be patient and abide by these rules over the last year and a half, they can go elsewhere. I'm happy to continue supporting Red's. The food (and completely reasonable, sane rules) is so worth it.

My drunk roommate called me at 3am asking if I wanted anything from the bakery and of course my first question was which bakery did you break into and is there an alarm going off? I then heard a very friendly voice in the background asking if he would like anything else then I realized he was actually in an open bakery so I asked for some pie. Once he got home he had about 70 dollars worth of pastries and Nanaimo bars and sweet jibbleys guys, everything is amazing! I had a brownie with chocolate mousse on it and now I’m mad all my brownies don’t have mousse on them! Amazing food and hats off to whoever decided to be open at 1am every day in quick stumbling distance from the bars, unsung heroes right here hahah!

The cheese felt too thick like I was eating cream cheese directly from the box. The cake also became sour in a day. I am disappointed in saying this but the crust layer tasted better than the cheese part.

Recently had the opportunity to visit this place. It has many raving reviews and they seem to do good things for those less fortunate. I ordered lemon tarts, carrot cake and nanaimo bars. The people I purchased the lemon tarts for did not much like the pastry. I found the nanaimo bars too sugar mealy, meaning the sugar wasn't mixed in well enough so that the texture was smooth. The carrot cake was meek and the cream cheese was not sweet enough and the carrot cake itself needs more flavor. The staff were super friendly.

I have to say when I visited Nanaimo I was extremely excited to try out the nanaimo bars but I tried about 4 different ones and they were all lackluster. This one was disappointing as it cost $3.50 for 1 bar and each one we tried (Raspberry, Peanut Butter, and Classic) was extremely flavorless, they all seemed to taste the same and none of them were outstanding. The service was fine and the bakery was clean, just really disappointed in the baked goods they had.

Only been in once but when I did it was fantastic. Big portions for totally reasonable prices, which is way more than any other shops on Commercial can say. I had the banana split cheesecake and as expected, it was unreal. Piece was so big I couldn't even finish it. My coworkers all eat their lunches from Reds constantly so I hear non stop raves about them. Definitely give them a shot if you're around.

My coworker and I found this gem while working in Nanaimo for a few days. I wasn't able to eat there while working but was able to grab stuff before heading home. The Nanaimo bar, peanut butter Nanaimo bar, triple berry cheesecake and pineapple coconut cheesecake are a MUST have. Absolutely delicious! Big portions and cheap compared to Vancouver! I'll definitely make a stop here again whenever I'm back for work! Try it! You won't be disappointed!

We were not allowed to enter because even though all health restrictions were lifted we had to wear masks. There aren't many late night options in Nanaimo and this bakery is a breath of fresh air from the same old Tim Hortons run. The husband and wife are always hard at work in the wee hours of the night. "When in Nanaimo, eat a nanaimo bar" During our honeymoon BC trip, my husband and I briefly stopped in nanaimo to take the ferry back to Vancouver. We asked a few locals where we could find the best nanaimo bars and they all advised Red's bakery We were not disappointed ???? we got a nanaimo bar AND nanaimo cheesecake, which were phenomenal. We also met Red, who made the experience 10x better. Will be strongly recommending to anyone headed to Vancouver island!

Love this place and the staff! Red’s bakery is one of my favourite places to grab some delicious munchies. Among my favorites is the whipped cream tart, the pastry is the perfect consistency and not too surgery (so you should probably get this). I have yet to have any negative experiences here as the staff are super friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended if you are looking to support a local business and to have some tasty treats!
