Zero covid precautions taking place in store. They have a sign that says only one group in at a time but they don't ask anyone to leave when three different groups go in. They've got 7 or 8 people working shoulder to shoulder, no distancing and not one mask.

A great little neighbourhood bakery located right in the heart of North Park. The selection is lower in the afternoons (I'm usually there around 4:30, half an hour before closing) but still lots to choose from. The brioche loaves are amazing. There's also usually a selection of fruity tarts, cakes, and savoury danishes. Today I picked up two danishes (a smoked salmon and cheese danish, and a spinach feta pastry)... they smelled so good, I had eaten both of them before I even made it home. Be prepared to stand in line, given the current COVID protocol is only 1 person/family in at a time. That said, the line generally moves fast and its definitely worth it.

This is my favourite bakery by far in Victoria. I bring and send family, friends, and all the guests with a car from the Empress, who ask about "the best bakery in town". This store never fails to meet that standard and live up to being the best. Not only do they have perfect cinnamon brioche buns, almond croissants and staff plus owner, :p they constantly exceed my expectations. I order my birthday cake from here every year ( pumpkin cheesecake with marzipan) as well as special cakes for family gatherings. I have a sensitive family with lots of intolerances and they are always not rude but excited to create and make something for us that we can all enjoy! Thank you for your patience and dedication to make delicious and tasty pastries for everyone alike!

I've been going to this amazing place for years (ever since they had their outlet on Fort) , and I love it! Everything they sell is so good... from frozen croissant that you proof overnight, to amazing savoury pies, to completely decadent pastries... to some of the best grain bread I've ever tasted. Their seed breads are exceptional, and deserve special mention. Somehow, they manage to make them so that they retain moisture over the course of about five days (approximately the length of time it takes for me to finish a loaf), WITHOUT going mouldy. That is on top of the fact that they're delicious and never make you feel as though you're sacrificing taste for health. Finally, I've always found their customer service to be very good; their employees are always friendly and helpful. I really should have reviewed these guys a long time ago, better late than never, though.

A good place to go if you’re a fan of almonds. Quite a few variety of pastries and desserts to choose from, however they all taste rather similar as it seems the same recipe is used for the all items that contain almonds or chocolate, but just shaped into different forms.

I ordered the cake 2 weeks in advance of my sons 1st communion- sent an image of the cake design I wanted, no responses back from them after multiple emails and calls and with the rudest customer service. Finally got the cake and it was absolutely wrong, the tackiest design ever and I couldn't even serve it. No apologies, no effort on their part to even correct it. Just aweful.

I've been going here since before I moved to Victoria (I visited Victoria often) and I love everything they make here. Their sourdough bread is delicious and their sweets are really good if you like almond based desserts. They are a little on the rich side for me though so if you plan on getting a dessert, I would plan on splitting it with someone because eating a whole chocolate croissant or rum ball will make you regret not saving half for later. I always get their meringues as they are nice and light and packed with almonds. The owner is there often and is very friendly and informative.

Daniel is amazing. I went into his shop in March to discuss having chantilly cake for my wedding. It was the place every said to go. As we were discussing, he suggested the most brilliant idea: he would make mini cakes and prepare them to be beautiful centerpieces. We got our two wedding cakes from Daniel (chocolate berry and lemon curd), and highly recommend that you do too. Daniel took care of me from start to finish. He was generous with tweaking samples to get them just the way we wanted. The cakes were delicious and beautiful, and got compliment after compliment. I would recommend ordering a little more than you need for guests; I've been having cake with breakfast all week.

Very large variety of savouries and sweets. The price isn't too bad and the pie was among the best pie I've ever had. I *personally* didn't care for one of the bars I had because I found it quite say but my husband loved it and the texture and quality of it was very nice. The staff were both friendly and helpful. The parking is... basically non-existent but, as with other downtown Victoria places, there is parking to be found in the general vacinity. Would visit again.

So my partner gobbled up part of the almond croissant before I could take a proper photo but now you can see how generous the almond filling is inside! The cinnamon bun and the muffins were delicious too. If you go early, the day old bag is a good deal. I will unashamedly admit that we went twice during our 24 hours in Victoria. This is not a glitzy place, it's small with loyal customers and lives up to its reputation. If you're looking for authentic French pastries, this is a must, also the staff are friendly!

I mean, come on...I’ve been to Victoria tons of times and yet I only visited this bakery for the first time just recently. Just look at the pics. The apricot galette was amazing. The espresso biscotti was sooooo good. And the chicken and olive pastry pouch (forgot it’s name) was too good to be true. It’s so worth going here to get your treat on. I can’t wait to get back and eat more!

I visit here whenever I'm in the neighbourhood and have yet to be disappointed. Favs are their cinnamon buns (best I've ever had), the sourdough rounds, and the focaccia flatbreads. I'm a little disappointed at some people giving poor reviews after having tried a single item not to their liking (aka Black Forest Cake). I've been consistently satisfied but if I buy something that I feel isn't up to snuff I'd go back to the bakery and ask them to fix it - they're always super nice and I think they'd be more than willing to help.

The staff and Bakers here are amazing. They saved my daughters 4th birthday. The day before her birthday, the company we had originally ordered a cake from cancelled. I picked up this message at 230 am the day of. I called cakes etc as they used to have a machine and thought- maybe they would help. I didn't get through to a machine. Then I remembered an amazing cake from Patisserie Daniel and thought I would call and see If I could leave a message and get them to put something aside from me or if they had anything premade. To my surprise a friendly voice answered my call. The baker was in, he heard what happened to my daughters cake and because they didn't have the ingredients. Guess what? He knew the cake as it was originally his creation! He made a slightly different version of it. I was so happy! Not only would they make me a cake, but the one I wanted. SO.... The next day when I picked it up- he had gone above and beyond. It said "Happy Birthday" and my kids name. It was covered in marzipan roses. It had a really awesome 4 candle on it, princesses and a crown for her and a really amazing bunch of candles. I don't think they know how much I appreciated all they did going above and beyond for my daughters cake. I was teary in the store but I cried later. Thank you Patisserie Daniel. Her whole face lit up at the look of that beautiful creation.

Summary: The Pamona cake is VERY sweet (can't speak for the rest). Suggested servings are underestimated, i.e. you'll be left with a lot of cake leftover if you're using their scale.Take any measures possible to ensure that your cake is designed to your specs and even then be prepared to be disappointed. I personally came in to order the Pamona cake and gave them what I believe were clear instructions on how to personalize it (giving them objects to model from and pictures). Unfortunately, I wasn't the one to pick up the cake and therefore was not able to check it before taking it away. Found out on the reveal that the cake was not designed as specified and, without going into too much detail, resulted in me having to cut out inedible sections of the cake so that I had something to serve to the guests. I was very confused and very embarrassed. The cake itself was delicious on the first bite but be warned that the cake was VERY sweet and I found it harder and harder to finish a slice. The website suggests certain sizes can feed a certain amount of people but I think they underestimate how many people their cakes can serve because I ended up with more than a third of the cake left after guests had their fill.

Patisserie Daniel surely makes the finest baked goods and cakes in Victoria. I have lived in the neighborhood of this fine establishment for upwards of 10 years and eaten their amazing items literally countless times. I have had many favorites over that time, from delightfully sweet and rich birthday cakes, to the savory and seemingly perfect whole wheat flax bread. The bread is so good that my Mom always insists that I bring several loaves of that bread when I visit her up island. The staff are hard working and pleasant, and many have been there long term. They're welcoming and efficient, and just one other reason Patisserie Daniel is worth a visit. Highly recommended!

We had booked a time in advance to discuss the design, cost, and whether what we want is do-able. Then the day of the SCHEDULED appointment comes, which was today, and we receive a phone call LESS THAN 1 HOUR away from our SCHEDULED appointment, to cancel it. We were advised that they are just "too busy" to carry through with our SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT WHICH WAS BOOKED OVER A WEEK AGO!!! I was advised by the gentleman on the phone that "Daniel is just too busy on Saturday's and I never should have booked this is in the first place, call us again in a few months" EXCUSE ME!?! If you should not have booked this, then you should have called me with more notice, We were in the car on the way to your shop when you called, we booked the day off work as you are not available Sunday-Monday, and now we are stuck. Why would we book with a company that cancels on us LAST MINUTE, where is the affirmation that you will not cancel on us for the making of the cake. This is very poor business to do this to a customer with a large purchase, just so that your walk-ins would be accommodated. If we booked an appointment we should get priority as that is what an appointment is for, especially in the times of Covid-19. I say all this because I don't want another Bride to go through the frustration and upset that I have today. I will not be calling in a few months, and frankly I won't refer your company to anyone, I will defer them. You cannot run a business with an associate that doesn't even know what you as the baker needs/is available for. If you were not able to do this in the first place, don't book it, or you know, have decency to call us with more notice than 45 minutes.

Daniel did our wedding cake and it was AMAZING. Due to a catering mishap we had a lot left over, and I have to say it was the best week post-wedding having a slice every day for dessert. If you are looking for a wedding cake, look no further. I felt so taken care of, and the quality of these cakes are FANTASTIC.

Black Forest Cake

This Was the worst tasting black forest cake i have ever eaten. There was not a single cherry in any of the layers, only thick white sugar goo was in the layers. Out of 16 servings no one ate any more than 4 small fork fulls. All the cake went into the garbage. Yes, the presentation was good , however, it takes more than presentation to get 5 stars from me. It was very embarrassing for me as i was asked to bring a cake to the birthday party. As of now the star rating system means nothing. I ask myself , does the public know what a quality product is anymore , or is it all about LOOKS.

Ordered a Black Forest cake for a my birthday and hoping it would be fresh. It was a big disappointment :( The cake tasted heavy, at least a few days old. Maybe low quality, or previously frozen, I am not sure. Not recommended for cakes!

I just had my wife's tiramisu birthday cake made here. Not only did it taste amazing but it was one of the nicest looking cakes I have ever seen! I sort of dropped the ball and forgot to order it early but they had it ready for me the next day and for a really good price :) cant say enough good things about them. I will definitely be back. They run out of sourdough, but it's such a great bread that I dont begrudge the people who get there early. Ask for their olive and cheese sourdough!!!! They need to make that one more often and more of it!

It is pleasing to the palate and eye. Pastries such as almond croissants and in house made biscotti, can be found here. Flans, cakes, muffins and home made breads, baked daily are found behind glass counters. The customer area is quite small and can get criwded with only 3 or 4 customers waiting. Parking can also be an issue since it is on a busy street with limited street parking. But the pastries and breads are worth the slight inconvenience. I was intrigued by a pastry called 'drunken fish' but did not try them. Cookies are available and special orders are taken. The finished products are very pleasing to the eye and palate and will keep you coming back for more.

I live very near here, and discovered this place when I first moved here from Edmonton. As I am a celiac/gluten intolerant––I was hoping to be able to buy gluten free products here, including bread. It took Daniel at least two years to develop his multi-seeded, multi-grain bread and it was worth the wait! I have sampled all the places in Victoria that sell or bake gluten free bread and I think that (without a doubt) this is the very best I have ever tasted. I have to be careful, though, because it tastes and smells so good that I could eat a loaf myself in two or three days––so it's a treat for me. Any of the cakes (little or big) are beautiful and satisfy all the senses. I've always felt that Food is Art and going to Patisserie Daniel confirms it.

I regularly get their super seed bread, great. I have also had their croissants which are also good. Their meat pies (tourtière, duck, chicken, steak and kidney) are well worth it too; they will have one or two fresh and a few other frozen which are just as good (fresh or frozen they need reheating). I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but the cookies I have had were good.
