Best Balkan store in the lower mainland! The groceries and fresh food always remind me of home

I know this place since 3 years ago, they make fantastic pastry that resemble spanakopita and in many flavors. They make their own phillo and they also offer a small menu that includes meat dishes like roasted lamb. They cook it their own own way. They make also Borscht. There is a small area inside where you can eat and a little are where they have food products from their Country that is East Europe

With lots of specialty foods from the Bosnian and Serb regions, it's a great place to visit. But the real draw are the baked goods and sandwiches. The portions are big and you certainly won't leave hungry!

Cozy place with good food from Balkan region. Pitas and burek are awesome. Portions are decent and reasonably priced. The biggest issue is no access to washroom, so if you come with little kids this is causing major inconvenience. You will be directed to go Tim Hortons on Kingsway to use the washrooms and if you are in their middle of your meal it is really a problem.

Impress with the Bakery! A small shop that does more than baking savoury pastries and sweets—Nana's Bakery will roast a lamb or pork too! The prices are reasonably reasonable—no hesitation in recommending this place. Parking is available right in the front as well as street parking. No excuses now!

Nana's bakery is nice a bit small place, you can find all kind of products from the Balkans region, There is a small sitting in the corner if someone decides to have a Chevapi, Pljeskavica (Hamburger) etc or you can order it as takeout. There is some nice selection of desserts, like Baklava, Krempita etc. Nana's Pitas are pretty good and they come with Cheese, Beef, Spinach Potato etc. Also, you can order roasted Lamb, Pork, Veal. Definitely, I'll be back.

It's our first time visiting this Bakery. We saw the long line-up while we were walking on the street and decided to give it a try. We tried Blueberry Burek, Meat Burak and Cevapi. Bureks or pitas are cheap and delicious. Just $2 each, taxes included. They have meat, cheese, and cheese and spinach. Cheese is feta. They have some others but I come for the pitas. You can call ahead and order a big bunch of frozen pastry too. I'm guessing they're Bosnian or Polish. They're friendly and I think I'm the only Asian in there. A hidden gem!

Quaint little bakery and deli stuffed full of yummy eastern European condiments, candy, beverages and grocery items. Stumbled upon it in a recent drive through the neighborhood and we are so glad to have stopped by. The round bread is delicious as were the pastries and cookies we bought. Fruit syrups and teas in unusual flavours are tasty and made with good quality ingredients and less junk and chemicals than north American made stuff. The baker was very friendly and accommodating, taking time to explain ingredients and translate labels and instructions. We will return for sure.

Hidden little gem with lots of Balkan specialities in South Burnaby. They have lots of different filled “pitas” to choose from such as apple, cheese, pizza, meat (burek), and zucchini. The cevapi here is made to order and very tasty as per my other half has noted. It’s easy to miss this place if you aren’t looking for the little storefront.

Just checked it out, only 3 "fresh" looking items available on display. Wasn't greeted by staff. Seems like it is mostly frozen foods, I doubt I'll ever return. Parking lot was active though so I guess if you're looking for frozen foods. Simply being called a "bakery" a bit misleading to ones expectations.

Good Bosnian, Serbian, Croatian authentic food. Place is very simple and small, not much seating, I usually take out. Service is basic but cevapi and pita are good. Bit pricy though. Don't expect great service here. They don't sell service but food that would be kind of like Bosnian fast food thingy equivalent.

Very small store smaller than a convenience store for sure, it does get very busy so it was hard to navigate without bumping into someone. Good selection but prices fairly higher than other Balkan stores I go too like butcher boy. Parking was full had to park on side of alley in the mud.

One of the best cevapi and burek ever tasted. They been making these for so long yet so yummy each time you get them. Love that they are open very early in the morning, which is rather convenient if someone wants to do an early morning run and avoid all or any Burnaby traffic. Overall no complaints. Great borek famous for the cheese, other are mushroom, and meat. But spinach & cheese is my favorate. Photos are for frozen borek keep them in freezer and baked them at home; 22-25 min on 425F temprature. Tip: Brush the top with some melted butter for extra crispy borek The place is too small, i would have given them 5 stars if chasier lady would smile to their customers. (It seems smile is reserved to certain customers only.)

I would like to give a big thank you to the team at Nana's Bakery for their awesome food and positive attitude. One of the owners I believe who has helped me to order my food is so positive and I gave her a big tip today just based on her smile! I strongly recommend this place if you like any kind of baked goods and they use some nice options like cheese and spinach in a Yugoslavian style. Very interesting food. They have a few tables if you're looking to sit down and hang out as well. So far I've just tried the danishes but I will try some of the other items later as they're delicious. It's a very simple location so don't be misled by its old school outer and inner appearance. They've got skills. ????

Curious soul

European style, not the extra sugar and pereservatives you find in the Vancouver food market. Well made pie and pastry, as it is not a large scale type of facility. Polite staff. At the front counter it appear typical to the Eastern-European food stores, but they have a large cooking area at the back that looks much cleaner than many places I visited, I see that because for some years I look behind the curtains and I see soiled aprons and walls and countertops on many places I visited. A large slice of pie is not cheap but I can't eat it all at once, to me it is worth the price over any fast food menu. Blueberries small pies are delicious, and are made with real blueberries, the filling is not like the stuff from the regular stores where they use gelatine and few berries floating in it. They also sell Polish sweets and saussiges and sweet drinks. Check out their menu on their website, I never did but the screen in the store shows that info as well. I buy from this small store because I do support the local community where the small profit is helping their families and not the industrial food manufacturers and are in the business mostly for cash

Why am I JUST discovering this place now?! On a whim, my wife and I decided to check this place out, as it's right near our house and we both walk by it daily. All I can say is that the quality is through-the-roof and the prices are REALLY good. It reminds me of the homemade pastries that my Croatian grandmother makes, except these are a little bit better (sorry grandma! I know you don't have a computer so you'll never find out either :) I am moving to a new neighbourhood in a week... suddenly I want to move back.

I came here with my wife looking for a French bakery. Instead, I found a new world opened to me in the form of Bosnian cuisine. The stuffed pastries were so savory, perfectly seasoned, and perfectly balanced without being greasy. I never had a delicious spinach and cheese pastry with such delicate but satisfying flavours, and a perfect sour note that left you craving for more. The beef that they use is seasoned so amazingly, I would have it in any form of food over all other ground beef. The prices are so good, there is no doubt that you will find the value that makes a meal even more satisfying. If I lived near here, this would definitely be a four or five times per week visit. Everyone needs to try Bosnian food right now!

A colleague introduced me to Nana's Bakery - I was blown away! I'm glad he did because I will definitely be back soon. I thought about the food for several days after we visited. We had a couple savory stuffed pastries, he had the ćevapi and I had the pljeskavica (I couldn't pronounce it so I had to show them on my phone what I wanted hahaha). The pastry was incredibly flaky, the meats were seasoned so damn well and the bread was probably the thing I remember the most for some reason - tender, delicious and I think there was butter on it or something. The only thing I noted was that we didn't get any sauce with our orders which would have been a nice addition but alone they were still amazing. Next time I'm looking forward to checking out some of the other treats they sell.

This is my favourite place to get Balkan style pitas (baked phyllo pastry). They make many different varieties, including: cherry, apple, cheese, spinach, turkey or beef, mushroom, cabbage, potato and pizza. Very tasty and at $2 a piece a reasonable price. I have picked up orders for my family as well as larger orders for co-workers, who tried the food for the first time and fell in love with it. The service is always great. I recommend pre-ordering to ensure they have what you want. They also sell a variety of small size desserts which are very yummy. I haven't yet tried cevapcici.

Have been here over the years, but went yodsy for the first time in a very long time. Enjoyed my time looking through the shelves of really neat and tasty treats... a great find for European chocolates and cookies. The hot pastries brought back lots of great and fond memories of going there all those years ago. Will be back for more Christmas shopping for stocking stuffers and more treats for me! Small convenient store like layout with a patio for eating the prepared foods or pastries and snacks. Generally I think ethnic watering holes enrich the neighbourhood and I'm glad this is here. We ordered the 5 sausage bread, cheese and spinach pastry, potatoes pastry, Nutella pastry, 2 carbonated imported drinks and lots of snacks to try. Everything was imported. However the candies smelled and tasted strange and stale... It was unpleasant like old or overheated oil and I think it was melted during transport or something because the candies don't look like the image on the bag/box. After getting some other people's opinions of the smell and taste I threw the bag of mint/candies out. Pastries are flaky puff pastry, yum.

Really friendly proprietor. His bread is the main product - they make a fairly authentic "lepinya" bread, a unique Bosnian extra chewy awesome bread, which is a sort of hefty Greek pita but much more glutonous and stretchy inside and textured outside. It is a cultural heritage of Bosnia and though clearly influenced by the middle East, is unique and passed through generations of bakers. Don't be afraid to ask the proprietor to tell you what the products are if he has time as this is an interesting place for those who enjoy trying mistery meats from cans or different types of sardines. His store is more a lunch place for the industrial workers in the area, so the foods are hardy worker class type stews and things that are more designed to save a buck than win a taste competition, and the selection of products is unique to the Balkan interests - 700 types of chocolate (do they eat chocolate with everything like the Swiss?), Milka everywhere and many varieties of pickled peppers, dill pickled cucumbers, and then various iterations if "Euro-cream" spread. Mmm. You too can have some chocolate and milk chocolate Euro cream on your lips tonight.

This place serves very good Eastern European bakeries. If you are bored of having breakfast with just coffee+croissant , or even having rich breakfast like cheese, salami, sausages, tea, bread etc. go there and try a really good experience. They also sell Turkish ring bakery with sesame called “Simit” . It is very good with honey+butter! Try triangle cheese BUREK too.
