Fresh with my disappointment at having not found what I wanted at a previous bakery, I came in to Nanaimo Bakery expecting the worst. What I didn't expect was an overwhelming array of pastries, cakes, baked goods and chocolates, all laid out in a very impressive spread, so much so that I couldn't possibly leave with just one item! Delicious treats, tried tiramisu, lemon slice cake and yogurt cheesecake. Not as heavily sweet as the manufactured ones in commercial stores which give me toothache. Will come back and try more stuff. Ladies working here take social distancing seriously which is a good thing, but a bit too concerned even when there are only few customers in the store. Update. Paid a 2nd visit, the lady with grey hair was again having cold customer service towards me, as if I did something wrong which bothered her. I feel unwelcomed in this bakery, probably won't come back even though I like the cakes. Tried butter cookies this time, don't like them.

My friend and I had a late lunch! Her sandwich and potato salad looked good and she said it was tasty. My Cornish pasty was pale and had been microwaved, so you can guess how it tasted. The pastry was soft and doughy, which ruined the taste of the filling.

For the past 25 years I have been a customer at this wonderful place. I buy my family's bread and treats there knowing the food is made from scratch with the best natural ingredients. I am a big fan of their gluten free bread. A great place to visit for a cozy lunch or tea. Wonderful baked goods and a seafood croissant that is second to none. Probably my favorite (besides the Bavarian Black Forest cake) are the hand made chocolates. After eating these chocolates you won't want to go back to store bought. The prices are reasonable and there has always been a warm smile and a thank you from the staff. I highly recommend this bakery.

After going online and seeing the reviews for this bakery, we decided to get my son's birthday cake made here. My daughter ordered it, requesting the most chocolate cake they could make. I have NEVER tasted a worse cake. Tasteless and dry, cakes left uncovered on the counter overnight would have been moister. They also added a strawberry filling, which was NOT requested - EVERYTHING was supposed to be chocolate. And if there was any chocolate in that batter, I would have been surprised. Only the icing tasted like chocolate. We will order our cakes from the grocery store from now on - they are MUCH better!

Ordered a custom theme Birthday cake. Staff was unattentive, willing to say dis interested. Served 1/2 slab to 8 Mom's & kids. Nobody finished it - politely suggested it was a bit dry.. Complained next day with the remains to ultimately perhaps the owner, who squeezed a handful of what was left and said "well it's not a pudding cake from Superstore" and walked away. Zero attempt to reconcile.. I'm not a complainer. Don't patronize this joint. Save your $40. Go to Superstore..

Pastries and cake aren't too bad, but the staff was very racist, felt very unwelcomed as soon as we entered. Was charged to have croissant, cornish and sausage pastry warmed up in a 'microwave ', I don't mind paying but at least use a panini press. I spent over $50 and when I went to sit down, the staff said I cannot sit because they just disinfected and sanitized the tables. I came all the way from Vancouver and cannot believe how unprofessional and rude they were. Not recommended!!!!!!

Sandwiches are good and very reasonably priced. I decided at the last minute to get a dessert. I went to the bakery side and requested the dessert to have here. I was told I had to go to the lunch counter. I then said I’ll have it to go instead so I didn’t have to wait in the line as the rest of my party was finished eating. The bakery lady said no cause I would be wasting a box. I chose to skip the dessert and we left rather disgruntled.

I went there, as it is a bakery, to get a special birthday cake. I might as well have gone to the moon . The woman at the counter was absolutely stunned and clueless. She didn't know what kind of cakes they had, she couldn't offer me help of any kind. The size she suggested for 10 people would not have served 6. They apparently do not get into decorations either. On top of that, this place only gives the allusion of being covid safe. In the end the cake was pathetic, good thing it was cheap. I had heard rumors about this place before, and perhaps I was just the wrong type of customers to get proper service. I will never go back there.

The last few times I was in there, the staff did not wear masks. Absolute disregard for our safety! We have not found most staff through the years to be friendly, which is disappointing. Their food is fairly good, average. Prices are average. Large selection which we liked as thats rare in most Bakeries now. Buns are good. Meals were good. They do seem to move line ups efficiently. No online menu is disappointing.

I have gone here for years because the baking is quite good for many of their products, well priced, and the staff very good and stable. Went for lunch and the table was on uneven tiles: a situation which my husband was fixing with the cardboard on the floor, obviously used just for this at this table! The waitress came and did it for him, and *without washing her hands after touching the very dirty cardboard, served our food and glasses, drinks and cutlery to us. Then the tables nearby were being wiped by a *sniffling waitress, with water that *smelled like vinegar, so it was a totally different experience but one I will not allow to repeat.

We waited for a table for 20 minutes; only to get literally kicked out of the table and quite rudley. Apparently you are not permitted to sit before you order. They would rather you stand with your food in your hands waiting to sit while your food gets cold.

Absolutely great food. I've had two bad experience with customer service unfortunately though. The first one, I asked for a fruit tart, there were about 8 in the case, to be told they were for the cafe side, even though there were no others made yet. The second I made the bad mistake to ask for a small box for my danish and Nanaimo bar to have the lady look up at me and roll her eyes. I apologized for asking for a box, she said nothing except give me a very dirty look, no "I'm sorry about that, nothing". So I told her I didn't appreciate the way she was treating me, to still have her say absolutely nothing and give me yet another eye roll and dirty look. I went to pay and I asked if she was the manger she said No! I asked her name, she told me. There were no apologies, just more rudeness. I called in not even a half hour later to talk to the manager and I'm sure she answered. I left my info and still haven't heard from management. It's so unfortunate that the staff is so unfriendly as they really do have great food.

A lovely bakery and one I've been going to for several decades, even before they moved to their current location. I commend them for closing their store of their own accord while ONE of their staff is isolating due to a positive COVID test. This shows great responsibility and public service. I'll be back as soon as you open.
