After honeymooning in Halifax and getting to eat the most amazing East Coast Sour Dough, I was a little bit skeptical when Small Scale Bread was recommended to me as somewhere with incredible sour dough. But here I am eating it and I’m in heaven. This bakery is an absolute MUST for anybody living in or around the area, anyone stopping through, or anyone anywhere on a mission to find the best sour dough out there. Make sure to arrive early before they sell out. You won’t regret it.

No lineup at 8:15 am and the smell of hot fresh bread when entering was great! Besides two loaves of bread picked up a cardamon twist. Like a cinnamon roll but not as sweet and more favorable. Tasty! Staff was helpful and answered my questions. Good to see they are working on a gluten free bread recipe for the future.

We tried a couple items on our first visit here. The cardamom buns were unique and tasted great, and the chocolate ganache/pie thing we had was also great. They sell Quietly Coffee here too, and while it's a bit expensive, it's some of the best coffee you can buy.

Great chocolate chip cookies and brownies. There's also some other tasty goods and breads on display. They also sell locally sourced food and drinks in their fridge.

A hidden gem of Belleville. I live in San Francisco and stopped by this bakery en route to Toronto because it opened at 8am normal Bakery time instead of 10am like the rest of the bakeries. Gosh what a perfect loaf of sourdough, rivaling the best of SF! Crispy yet chewy crust with soft and moist inside. The cookies were flavorful and chewy. We bought a few other pastries just to try because they looked so good. They were all wonderful. A very legit “big city” bakery in a small town/small city. Their drink department could use improvement though. I’d say they are a great bakery but not a cafe yet. Highly recommend if you want bread loaves and bake goods.

Finally made it to Small Scale Bread! Beautiful spot in Belleville, definitely worth a stop. We picked up some fresh sesame sourdough, a box or treats and a coffee. We’ll be going back for sure. There a beautiful quiet spot to sit out front and enjoy your goodies too.

I'm thrilled you guys are here in Belleville! The atmosphere is welcoming and SO cool. The bread is beaaaautiful. And lots of healthy grocery items to explore too like Oat Milk Spread (as an alternative to butter). The thick chocolate chip walnut cookie was hands down the most delicious cookie I've ever personally had. Coming from a family of delicious bakers. :) Definitely a special place to stop by. Coffee was delicious they even have an option of non-dairy oatmilk and they have these delicious chocolate salted caramel with I think it was a touch of candy cane that just melted in my mouth don't miss out!

Really nice coffee and pastries, haven't tried the bread yet. Very clean, nice atmosphere, looking forward to having a sit-down when pandemic restrictions ease up. This is the only place I've found Malden salt in the area. Quite difficult to find from the road, it's tucked away behind a building so the only thing visible is a wee little sign. Definitely worth checking out though.

Excellent! bought a loaf of 50-50 Wheat bread and a box of individual treats this morning. My husband thought the PBJ Blondie was decadent - he loved it. I got pretty excited to see bakewell tart, and it was delicious! There is something for everyone here. The sourdough bread was just as it should be. We will be returning! Oh, and parking is right at the door - so convenient.

I stopped by curious to what's inside on Saturday morning. The customer service feels like hometown hospitality. The bakery was helpful in helping me pick up some delicious treats for my family to enjoy. They even had coffee Brewed from a local roaster that tasted delicious. I've enjoyed my experience and would definitely recommend.

Had a great experience! Staff was very kind and funny. The bread was top notch, would 100000% reccomend stopping by. The bakery is sort of "hidden" (I had to drive around the block a couple times trying to find the entrance but that could just be my fault). Definitely worth it though and I will be returning!

What can I say, I've enjoyed ever item we have tried so far from this bakery. From a beautiful vibe, to baked goods that please not only the eye but also the buds. Small Scale will soon become a Belleville must visit location for the locals AND the vacationer. PS: Try the peanut butter cookie, even if you aren't gluten free.
