I make a pretty good butter tart, but this place goes above and Beyond! These are by far the best butter tarts I have ever eaten. I live in Gatineau, Quebec, and whenever my sister in- law from Barrie plans a visit with us, she always brings me butter tarts from The Sweet Oven.

I don’t understand why everyone raves about these butter tarts. The flavours are good but they are so so runny. Like fall out of the shell onto your plate runny. I’ve even bought the “not so runny” ones they advertise and they are no firmer. Not a fan.

They specialize in butter tarts, Consider myself a bit of a butter tart aficionados, by far the best butter tart I have had. Canadian living has ranked them as the best in Canada. They sell out even on weekdays way before official closing time ,which speaks to the quality of the tart , They sell a variety of flavours which come with runny or regular filling, flavour change every day, but plan , pecan and raisin are standard. Drive all the way to Barrie just for their butter tart.

Don't know how to explain this but it truly has become an addiction. These butter tarts are out of this world consistent sweet smooth and addictive. The coffee one is out of this world can't believe how amazing. If you're driving up to Cottage Country it's a must stop off of Mapleview Drive to just get off grab a bunch. Buyer beware it's an addiction????????????

This place is DANGEROUS! If you have poor willpower you may want to avoid this place all together. The selection is great and every butter tart is delicious. If you have a preference, check the baking schedule and arrive early.

We ordered a box of cheesecakes with a variety of toppings and everything was super delicious and impressive! The fruit toppings tasted like real fruit, the caramel was really rich and creamy, and the cheesecake crumb was perfect and the cheesecake itself was prime. As close to home made as you can get. Others say home made but they are nowhere close. Lots of flavor butter tarts. Chocolate chip, plain, raisin, skor, cinnamon raisin to name a few. Nice and buttery not super sweet like others. Pastry is flakier than others. $3 each, $16.50 for 6. Very good the day after too. Good amount of filling vs others. More expensive than others, but worth it. Plain, pecan, raison are everyday. See website for other flavors by day.

The tarts are amazing but the service is terrible. We came to get tarts from Toronto but arrived 5 mins late. Called the location several times to let us buy. The staff was inside but didn’t open the door for us saying that the till is closed. I try my best to support local small business especially during covid. This type of unaccommodating behavior is really disappointing.

I've had my share of Butter Tarts over the years, but my Grandmother would be sad to hear that The Sweet Oven's version are BEYOND! Crisp, flaky butter crust enrobes a drip-down-your-chin classic buttery filling. Brimming with raisins and a chewy caramelized top, it's the quintessential Butter Tart! I love a perfect runny butter tart, where are you have to lean over when you eat it so it doesn’t drip on your shirt. The sweet makes the best version! My favourite are classic with raisins, but you can go wild with any of the flavours and not go wrong. I highly recommended this place.

Not even a butter tart fan and I enjoy the flavoured butter tarts and the Cheesecakes here! To anyone reading these reviews - the positive reviews clearly outweight the negative ones. In fact the only negative one I really see is from Philip Dunn which makes me wish there were a comment button to respond. They're buttertarts, can we say first world problem. Unfortunately, large corporations have made it the "norm" that something is owed to us as customers and that the customer is always right hence the complaint about no apology or "attempt to correct past mistakes" therefore they will not be returning. Sounds a bit much to myself but hey that's just 1 personal opinion. Let's not forget that at the end of the day, we're all human. Do yourselves a favour , go here and buy the buttertarts - they're delicious and they're served with a smile!

Their website does not indicate that they use lard in their pastry. Only reference under allergies and nutrition is that they are not dairy, gluten, vegan or nut friendly. Many vegetarians eat butter but none eat lard. So indicating that the tarts are not dairy or vegan friendly does not imply that there is lard in their pastry. Also many people do not eat pork products for religious reasons. You need to clarify this on your website.

One could say I'm a butter tart connoisseur. These were absolutely incredible. I didn't even know about this store. I had ordered Italian food next door and happened to see it. I googled what it was and saw it was a speciality shop for butter tarts. Of course, I had to go in! I got plain and raisin. I also got 2 of the cheesecakes (Oreo and skor). Everything was so delicious. Some reviews mentioned they're a bit runny. I had them in the fridge so they were perfect. Definitely recommend trying this place out if you're in the area!

Its exciting for a one time experience. The buttertarts are veery sweet. And very runny. I got it all over myself . They have a variety of flavours that rotate throughout the week. They are worth the price and you can taste that they use real maple syrup in the filling which is an expensive ingredient. No way someone could eat more than one because they are just sooooo sweet. I guess the name says it all - the sweet oven .

I usually stop In on my lunch breaks as I work close to this plaza where the sweet oven is located. I’ve been visiting here for a few months now, I don’t know what has happened at the beginning the quality of the tarts and cheesecake were really good and worth every penny. I had picked up some tarts and cheesecake for my wife one day the other week, when I returned home we went to eat them after our dinner we opened up the boxes and noticed the cheesecake didn’t taste too good. It was not fresh and hard to bite into especially on the sides they were extremely hard, the dressings were melted, it tasted terrible, nothing like what I had previously. The tarts were ok but didn’t taste the way they did when I first started stopping in, they were soggy and tasted old. It seems as if their quality has gone down much and they aren’t putting in as great effort. It’s a much shame. I can’t say I would be interested in visiting here after my last few experiences, I thought maybe it was just bad off day but it’s been like this for the last few times I’ve stop by. Not worth the money for bad poor quality.

I highly recommend the sweet oven. My mom use to make this amazing cheesecake when I was younger and nothing compared, i tried every kind of expensive cheesecake out there and let me say I didn’t know cheesecake like this even existed it’s that good! I’ve tried every kind they have of the cheesecake and tarts. I’m not really a butter tart person but they are extremely good! They have plain cheesecake, Oreo, and skor and you can add toppings like raspberry’s and such, it’s really good, the skor is my absolute favourite you can’t find cheesecake like this at your local grocery stores, or restaurants. Also the staff is very friendly and welcoming they are always so kind to me.

My wife was referred here by a colleague, I personally never liked butter tarts found them too sweet and the pastry not the best however bought a coconut one to try and demolished in seconds, Whenever we have family get togethers we always bring down a dozen or so. Amazing Just wanted to provide an update we have been continually purchasing at least on a weekly basis a dozen or so tarts. We ordered 12 tarts recently and when we opened it up found the tarts looked different then our usual order. We took a photo of them and so today when we put in another order over the phone the girl kept insisting that there were no issues with their product. I showed the girl behind the counter the photo and she said oh those are the non runny ones and was our staffs fault for not asking what ones you wanted. Fine ok she then said when you order please specify if you want runny or non runny otherwise you will get a box of mixed. To the owners please teach your staff customer service at no time was an apology offered or any attempt made to correct past mistakes very disappointed by the lack of customer service and will be looking for another place to get our butter tarts from now on. Your staff due to her rude demeanour both in person and over the phone has cost you a customer and a negative review.

I really enjoyed the sweet ovens tarts, they have a few different kinds, they are very sweet not bland like the ones you would get from a grocery store. They remind me of the tarts my grandmother use to bake. The tarts are really good some of the best I’ve had they bring back really good memories, and for that I would definitely recommend them to anyone with a sweet tooth like myself!
