We had a South African Power of Attorney for my mom, here with us in Vancouver, signed with a special attorney on a list, provided by the Ministry of Attorney General's, OIC Administration Office. We found Elizabeth Mah's name on the list and contacted her. Within minutes Elizabeth and Cynthia, Elizabeth's executive assistant, responded and they made an appointment for us. It was so easy getting to them in Lonsdale. They made us feel safe and 'at-home'. They are very professional, extremely friendly, kind, helpful and compassionate. It was such a pleasure visiting their office. I can recommend Elizabeth Mah for anyone who are in need of an attorney.

Paperclip law is not transparent about there fees. There charged us an extra $500 to pay off our credit cards on our behalf. When asked why these extra fees were not simply mentioned to us they were very defensive and rude.

Although I wouldn't recommend that in hindsight, Elizabeth and her team were outstanding in being responsive, professional and simply incredible in taking care of all the hurdles that surfaced during the day! I had talked to another lawyer about the BC spec tax. He basically said that we had to pay it. The Papercliplaw folks told me, well you might have to pay, BUT you get a tax credit for earnings that are made and taxed in BC that can offset it. Extremely helpful!

I was very disappointed with the unprofessionalism of the front desk/"student lawyer" person. Not sure what level of Law they knew but they shared private information to a 3rd party. Was rude, raised their voice and threatened to not hire me as a client. I can't comment on the Lawyers at this Firm, I'm sure they are excellent, however, they need to re evaluate who they have making contact with the public. Will not be using them and happy to move on to another Firm that understands confidentiality and professionalism. I'd give zero stars but it doesn't allow that option.

I guess we had high expectations for hiring a lawyer rather than a notary which after our experience, could have been the same price as well as for the same attentiveness that we received from previous sales. We suggest reviewing all documents very carefully, question the lawyer (or articling students) on everything that you think isn't being read or attended to. Review your statement of adjustments carefully and ensure that you understand how things are calculated. This is important if you are not buying a property (as the buyer prepares the documentation - not the seller's lawyer) to review the wording and ensure things are covered. The lawyers are not accountants and once you sign off on a bill or document, it's pretty much out of your hands. You pretty much sign away your rights with that 1 line disclosure that any issue between buyer & seller is between you and goes beyond land title registration. That's how they cover themselves. (gotta love lawyers). Have everything done in writing before and during your sale/buy process. Also remember that any communication between the founder, office manager, and lawyer may not have been relayed, so again, have everything in writing/email. Otherwise, this firm is better than others.
