Me. Lafortune was professional, courteous and quick in her communication, and is knowledgeable about legal matters. When it came to mediation however, the process was demonstrably biased and the result consisted of her noting that both parties had different stances and therefore should hire lawyers. If the purpose of mediation is to help two opposing sides advance closer to an agreement by bringing to light the needs that are behind each position, then exploring how those needs might be met in a mutually agreeable way, stating that we don't agree and therefore mediation has failed is not what I expected. We already knew we didn't agree but hoped to have help in making progress. I sympathize that it is a difficult process and success rates may be inherently low, but I didn't see any skill set or strategy that made a difference for us in mediation.

Went to see Me. Pascale Lafortune regarding the custody my children. During the initial meeting, she was arrogant, talked more than listened to understand the issue and worst of all, she asked for money to open a file FOUR times during our 30 minute meeting... It felt like she was bullying me to retain her before even listening to my concerns and presenting a high level strategy to what will be the next steps... I strongly discourage people from consulting this amateur lawyer who needs to learn a lot on human interaction.
