I was referred to Mr. Christopher Nguyen by Mr. Xavier Martine yesterday evening. I was told he was an expert in Criminal Defamation and would be the one that could definitely help me with a Criminal Defamation case.
I called Mr. Nguyen right away and spoke to him about my case. He told me that he could not help with Criminal Defamation and instead I would need a Family lawyer. I was confused because he’s supposed to be an “expert“ in this area. On top of Mr. Nguyen’s rude manner, he was very condescending. I had trouble following why he would direct me to a Family attorney for a Criminal Defamation issue. He repeated himself and when stopping to clarify I understood he said “right?” I responded with “correct.” His response was, “I know I’m correct. I’m an attorney.” That sums up his elevated sense of self.
Throughout the rest of the conversation Mr. Nguyen’s attitude was the same. As a regular person, I do not have a knowledge of the law as an attorney does. Just because that is so, it doesn’t make me incompetent or that I should be subjected to condescending remarks. The call ended with him promptly hanging up. I put up with all of that hoping to at least get a referral but he was too eager to get off the phone. I called Mr. Martine back and left him a message advising him of Mr. Nguyen’s behavior and suggesting he doesn’t refer an attorney as Mr. Nguyen again. This is why I record my legal conversations. There are so many attorneys that parade as great people but are just not for the people.
My firm suggestion, if you want to be spoken to respectfully, if you want an expert for the area of Criminal Defamation, if you want an attorney that will at least offer you a referral when they cannot assist you, do not retain Mr. Christopher Nguyen.
Edited to add a response to Mr. Christopher Nguyen’s reply to my initial review (10/28/2020):
**The reply from Mr. Nguyen is the reason why I wrote the detailed review I did. For an attorney to accuse an individual of defamation for writing a review is highly concerning. A business does not have say or control over what type of review they receive. The reasons why that is are more than clear. Exercising my freedom of speech gives me the right to write the review I did and warn prospective clients of who they may be getting.
Mr. Nguyen stating I am not “adhering to counsel provided for free” is unsubstantiated. It is impossible for him to know if I have taken the few points he provided me and are using them to help my current legal situation.
As stated previously, I record all my legal interactions for my personal use so I may play back any points during a consultation I may have missed initially. It would not be smart for someone to have said something didn’t occur when there is documented evidence proving otherwise.
I am not sore about not being able to retain Mr. Nguyen, in fact, I am relieved. I now know I can spend my money better elsewhere. The inappropriate behavior I experienced from Mr. Nguyen is not an isolated one. When searching for the appropriate, competent attorney for your specified legal issue, we all know, these interactions do occur. I do believe it’s important for more of us individuals that deal with attorney's regularly to write honest reviews so others know exactly who they are getting before retaining an attorney and also so others don’t waste their time even with a consultation.
I am not a client of Mr. Nguyen and would never be and I suggest all read this review before calling for a consultation so you have an idea of what to expect.
My freedom of speech has been exercised and my review will not be removed.**
