What started out as a fairly positive experience with Carmen, ended in a pretty negative one. My partner and I just bought our first house, and Jill Anthony’s office came recommended to us by our Mortgage broker. When we initially met Carmen, she was rushed, somewhat unprofessional, but funny and helpful. Her communication was short (when she did reply). Now, we understand that this is a busy time, so delays and whatnot are expected. However, so is communicating those delays. When we went to drop off the cheque for closing costs on closing day, my partner asked Carmen if the keys were ready, she just said “no, I’ll tell you when they are.” When it was almost office closing time, we called the office and the front desk woman - I believe her name is Penny (delightful, polite, and friendly) - told us to come by in an hour and the keys should be ready.
So we came by at 440. When Penny told Carmen we were there, Carmen basically berated the woman, and was incredibly unprofessional and rude toward us (but not to our faces, behind a wall and we could very clearly hear through it). Long story short, Carmen came out 10 minutes later, told us the lock box number to get our keys, and we were on our way.
I’m sure she was under a lot of pressure, but being in the service industry myself, there is a level of respect and professionalism that is expected from someone, regardless of the level of stress on either end. Buying a house is exciting and stressful, and the person handing you the keys should at the very least be polite.
I can say Carmen did a thorough job, so I can not criticize her work at all, just her mannerisms.
