I retained Delaney's Law Firm for a separation agreement and house purchase and sale. The firm was more expensive than a few others that I had contacted but I felt that Bryan and I had a good rapport so I decided to go with his firm. The team at Delaney's is great and very efficient, however, I did encounter a few issues near the end of my service with them, which I have reflected in my rating. I received a surprising additional fee on my house purchase, which was originally identified as a rush fee. I approached Bryan and Rosana about the issue since my purchase did not fall under the rush category in the retainer agreement that I was provided. Bryan explained that they needed to rush to try and close on time (which sadly did not happen), which is a stressful situation for the firm. I told Bryan that I understood where he was coming from but I was upset because no one had informed me that such a hefty charge would be applied to my file. Bryan then replied saying that my file was a multiple mortgage file and that Rosana had put a lot of work into it and once he realized how much work she had done he asked her to add the additional fee ($500 plus tax) to my purchase file. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all of the hard work that was done on my file, however, the issue for me was the unexpected charge that was not disclosed in advance. The retainer agreement states that clients will be notified if their file is deemed to be complex in nature, however, this was not done in my case and that is where my frustration lies. There were also a few other inconveniences such as a meeting with Bryan being rescheduled with fairly short notice, my house not closing on time (only one day late so not terrible but still inconvenient) and having to request the refund for my retainer payment (it was paid out within 24 hours of being requested, which was greatly appreciated). My ex-partner was also kept on hold for over 30 minutes for a pre-scheduled meeting with Bryan, which my ex had scheduled during our son's online lunch break so it wouldn't interfere with our son's schooling. I understand that things happens and meetings run long but maybe tell the person waiting that you will call them back instead of having them wait on hold for an extended period of time or maybe add a bit of a buffer in between appointment times. So to summarize, great team who are very friendly and knowledgeable but beware of additional undisclosed fees.
