Very stressful experience (and an expensive one). Stephen is charging twice what other lawyers are charging for the same exact job. However, you won't know it until you get the bill. When you ask for an estimate, he doesn't provide one, even though according to Ontario lawyer's code of conduct, he's supposed to do that IN WRITING and keep you posted about disbursements. None of this happens, the job isn't done until the last moment, when it's too late to switch lawyers, and you are stuck with the bill you didn't agree to in the first place. P.S. - further to your reply, it is Yuliana and Sergey and it's factually untrue that you provided a quote to us - before we started working, I specifically asked for the estimate and you said you would not be able to give one. When the bill is provided a few days before the closing date (after multiple follow up on where our file stands), I can't consider it a quote, cause at this point the work is done and it's too late to look for another lawyer. We did review the bill with you and made some adjustments (still much higher than what other lawyers quote).. However it doesn't change the unpleasant experience and the amount of stress we had to go through. I hope my review can save other people from unpleasant surprises.
