Jaxon Keller

Rude and very unprofessional...

Jan Sm (Harley Spinn)

Susan was very professional to deal with. Not only did she help me navigate a separation agreement, but made it understandable as to why they are written they way they are. I found my time and money well spent with her and it was nice to have her in Nelson since there are no family law lawyers in Creston. Thank you for your time and patience, Susan.

This lawyer was not ready for our appointment. We had to wait while she finished secretarial work. Most of the $300 consultation hour was a repeat of basic information already posted on the website. Asked twice, to take the time to look over the documents and summary we provided, the meeting carried on with a sales pitch for $2000 to write up a simple separation agreement. Because she only reviewed our paperwork at the very end, she did not discover until then that a separation agreement was not the proper process to follow. Condescending, not a good listener. Definitely steer clear. Waste of time and money.

Susan will not waste your time. She is direct and honest about what family matters cost. Her counsel immediately moved me from a place of wallowing in self pity over the loss of my family to a place of self care where I am taking steps to take proper care of myself and my children. This is priceless. She practices collaborative law and will encourage you not to go to court and waste money. This too is priceless for families in turmoil.

Marco Tesoriero

Susan was very helpful with our situation. She was empathetic of our needs, helped us to avoid wasting money on unnecessary steps and guided us in the quickest way to reach resolution. Highly recommend her.

When someone posts a negative comment on google review about me that is not true, I have no opportunity to respond directly to that comment. For instance, Amy Enns recently posted a negative comment saying she spent "thousands" of dollars for me to conduct a mediation and I produced a separation agreement that was "full of errors". I have never been involved in a mediation with Amy Enns and further, Amy Enns has never paid me thousands of dollars. When we refused to provide legal services to her, she wrote a negative review. Similarly, other negative comments are posted by individuals who have never been my clients, but instead were on the opposite side against me in lawsuits, but they don't say so in their posts. I see a post by Jaxon Keller who is a child, the subject of an ongoing dispute between the parents. The child did not post the review accusing me of being rude and unprofessional. Instead, the parent against whom I acted in court posted this negative review in the name of the child. Sometimes when someone comes in for an initial consultation, they don't like to hear what a lawyer has to say about their case. We charge $276 + tax = $300 for an initial one hour consultation. When someone emails me a ton of documents and expects me to read those documents prior to our initial consultation, I have to let them know the time it takes for me to read their documents will be included in the one hour consultation making the face to face time much shorter, or they can pay for additional time, but the reading time is not provided free. Lawyers, like all other people, do not work for free. I have also noticed a few negative google reviews from people I have never even met such as Steve B, Cory Ferguson and Mr. Docalou. Anyone can have an off day and sometimes criticism is warrented and useful. But a negative review posted by someone I have never met is not very useful. Despite some of these unfair comments about me, it lightens my heart to see that not one of my actual clients in 32 years for whom I have done more than an initial consultation has ever complained about or posted a negative comment about the legal services I have provided to them. Take note - negative comments posted on google review may not be true and might be posted by individuals who have never been our clients. Thank you for reading this.

I hired susan to represent me in my divorce..she was professional, well informed and compassionate to my needs..she tried her best to resolve my conflict without breaking me financially and getting a resolution the cheapest way possible . I couldn't pay her in full so she was patient and empathic and allowed me to pay as much as I could and even deferred a monthly payment at Christmas so I could enjoy Christmas..professional., strong, well educated, compassionate and not only a good lawyer as well a good person .I would defenitely hire her if I needed help again

Liz Hilderbrand

Susan was great. She answered all of my questions and was sensitive in regards to my situation. Phoebe, her paralegal, was responsive and helpful as well. I highly recommend them.

Amy Enns

Paid thousands for mediation and a simple settlement agreement which was full of errors. Susan refused to meet with us to fix the agreement and we ended up having to start over with another lawyer. She does all the talking, eating up expensive hours, and doesn't listen. HUGE waste of time and money. Go elsewhere!!!

Steve B

She is just an awful person , and a horrible lawyer , Never trust someone that can't drink .

cory ferguson

like throwing money into a fire...or into her pocket i guess. its on third try of her trying to write the proper documentation..she has mis used legal terms and mis written documents (multiple times) charging each time of course...litteraly you will get more satisfaction throwing your money into a fire.

Susan was a very competent mediator who assisted with coming up with a fair agreement. She was very helpful in working with us ahead of time to get our parenting plan done first to facilitate separate living arrangements right away.

Theresa Mayr

Susan was incredibly helpful. She was extremely quick to respond. She gave me practical options to consider, and set realistic expectations about what a lawsuit would look like. She was even kind enough to respond quickly to a couple of follow up questions I had via email. Susan is personable, kind and empathetic while being incredibly practical and professional. I cannot say enough good things about Susan! She really helped me feel at peace and helped me move on to a better future.

Ruth Peirson

We found Ms Kurtz very professional and helpful. Definitely would recommend her.

I’m seeking a family lawyer and she talked to me very ignorantly. Told me I most likely couldn’t afford a consultation (little does know, I can afford a lawyer, hence why I’m looking for one). Then proceeded to tell me that I’m not going get to get the help I need. I asked her to please stop talking so rudely to me, then she hung up on me. Very ignorant lady. Do not recommend.

Reflecting back, Susan has helped me for the past 2 years when I sought legal advice. She was the right person to skillfully move several complex and challenging situations through to resolution. It has taken time and consultations to finalize these matters in a way that avoided expensive lawsuits. With good listening skills, Susan clearly understood what was required. At times I felt somewhat ruffled and scrutinized with her pursuit of understanding the details of these legal matters and I am grateful for my meetings with her. She accurately communicated with the other parties in order to obtain a fair outcome. I am very satisfied with with her and will seek her counsel again if needed.

We used Susan for our separation agreement and she had it done in time even with an emergency law session in between. We found the background of law informative and helped us pick the easiest and cheapest way forward. Worked great for us and in a week. Thanks!

Dustin Teindl

She was 15 mins late for our phone consultation, she had never read any of the pre-reading material prepared for her, wouldn't let me talk about my concerns while talking over me, swore and cussed unprofessionally, her dogs wouldn't stop barking in the back ground and left in a manner with little accomplished besides saying for more money she 'might' help.. She isn't as expensive as other lawyers in the area but there's a reason for it, you get what you pay for. On the positive side, her paralegal Phoebe was great to talk to.

David Andison

Susan handled both my separation and divorce, and the experience and outcome exceeded my expectations. And it was such a pleasure to work with a lawyer who was primarily interested in NOT going to court! We could use a few more like Susan out there.

Alexa Kootnikoff

I would leave zero stars if I could. She didn't listen to my questions at all and started making judgments on things she had no clue about. She is very rude and would rather sit there and argue something that had nothing to do with anything then help with any legal advice or even simply listen to the question I asked. I was completely shocked at her lack of professionalism. I've heard from many people that they had horrible experiences with her.
