After my sister became ill and was no longer able to work, I did all I could to help her apply for benefits. I thought I could gather all the documents on my own and put together a solid application that would be accepted. I spent months gathering documents and thoroughly answering all the questions asked on the application forms including additional pages of narrative. I did this while trying to keep my sister afloat emotionally and financially during these difficult circumstances. Despite spending countless hours on evenings and weekends, the request was rejected. I was afraid of engaging a lawyer as I thought that the time and fees would far outweigh any leftover funds that would be awarded. What made it even more difficult is that she did not have one specifically diagnosed ailment that impeded her ability to work but numerous issues that individually would not necessarily disable a person. What’s more, she did not have any money to pay a lawyer and by that point no income or assets. I found David Brannen’s web site and red through all his material.
