Best real estate law firm in Winnipeg
For the amount I paid them, they really didn't offer much flexibility in the way of scheduling. I get that 2021 was hectic for all things real estate, but my interactions this year with this practice left a lot of room for improvement, as it applies to customers service. That said, legally, this firm does a solid job.
Exceptional communication and very professional. They were pleasure to work with.. Helping with our new built house purchase deal but go far and beyond to intervene when needed help on tenancy issue. Excellent service & Amazing Team - Mr Jeff Shypit & Deanna Chapski are rare breed. Highly Recommended!
????????????????
Covid safe Clean and professional
One of their junior lawyers (Kamil) left a voice mail for my wife that basically accused her of something shady when she inquired about power of attorney for her Alzheimer's stricken mother. The lack of empathy was appalling.
Great service. They take the stress out of first time home buyer
Used for Real estate & Will
Used D. Wood when purchasing a home, friendly and professional when they needed my services. After the transaction when I needed their help they provided minimal legal advice and zero help. Very unsatisfied and wouldn't recommend.
Have been great to deal with on my home purchases and sales. Jeff Shypit's Team are awesome at making something stressful seem so easy.
Fantastic staff. Very knowledgeable and efficient. The right choice!
love my lawyer David Wood
Exceptional communication and fair pricing. These guys do a lot of real-estate deals and you can tell they have worked to hone their process. In Winnipeg I would not use anyone else.
Always helpful and knowledge staff.
If you're not using this law firm for your real estate purchase or sale, then you're using the wrong place. No better in the city. Over 85 transactions with them and never once disappointed
This was the 3rd purchase/sale that we have used David Wood...he's great and easy to deal with...also great working with Laura.
This law office was extremely helpful with my first home purchase. Their information packets and streamlined processes helped the transaction proceed quickly and smoothly. They made sure I was informed thoroughly at every step and warned me about things to look out for, like making sure I registered with Canada Post and submitted my water meter reading. When I choose to make a house purchase in the future I will choose Robertson Shypit Soble Wood for my legal needs, despite the fact that they are all the way across town.
Very helpful, fast and efficient!
I purchased my first home and chose Jeff as my lawyer, and it was the best decision that I made in the whole process. After my purchase and moving into my house, my neighbors house sold and was torn down. In the process, my fence was damaged. I reached out to Jeff after having difficulties resolving the issue with the new owners, and he couldn't have been more kind and generous with his time. I am forever grateful for his services and I will always refer others to him after witnessing his exceptional care. THANK YOU JEFF!
If you are buying a home, I highly recommend this firm to make the process go smoothly. If your a new home buyer they are extremely good a communicating every step..
Professional and alwayd responded very quickly to any questions regarding the buying and selling of houses
We recently used Robertson Shypit Soble Wood for the purchase and sale of real estate, they went above and beyond. We would absolutely recommend this law firm. They were a pleasure to work with. Thank you.
Excellent service, Quick and fair pricing. Will return for other services. I was impressed with their Covid precaution measures.
We have been using Jeff Shypit as our lawyer for our new build purchase. Jeff has been very helpful throughout the process and given excellent advice. I would highly recommend Jeff when buying or selling a house.
I sold my first house and bought my second with the transaction going through this firm. I did well on my first house and the lawyer obviously perceived this. This firm, was fast and efficient-I will give them that much credit! However, when the bill came I was less than impressed. Now I am pretty good with money (as this firm's response attempts to disparage me and make it seem like I can't understand basic math). I requested an "Itemized List" of all fees, expenditures and closing costs related to the sale of my property, transfer of titles etc. This firm, could not provide that. After repeated attempts at getting such itemized breakdowns, the lawyer who closed the deal never actually sat down and met with me in person. This lawyer had an assistant sit down with me, hand me a document that was not what I asked for and attempt to explain to me in a smarmy way how they arrived at their figures (which I might add was not at all tabulated like an accountant or even a business receipt should look like). I attempted to explain to them that I wanted an itemized list, and they didn't seem to understand basic math such as: A (sale price)-B (expenditures) = C (final reimbursement or transfer to new property). This is not rocket science to provide this to a client but apparently it is for a lawyer. Now I can understand a difference of a few hundred dollars, sure, however if $2k-4k is unaccounted for I have a big problem with that. I have nothing really good to say about these people other than they were fast. When I requested an itemized breakdown of fees, they did not give me a proper itemized list. When I ran the numbers their fees and transaction costs did not add up and thousands of dollars were missing! I believe it was between $2000-$4000 unaccounted for. They would not answer my calls afterwards or discuss the matter, and I was called in for a final meeting and dismissed. I was told by this lawyer's assistant that they did not want me in their office and that we were done doing business. Completely unprofessional, and I never did recoup the unaccounted for money. Stay far, far away. Ask yourself this question. If their response, is indicative of anything, would you want someone that is willing to sue you for having an opinion of being dissatisfied with their service and calling them out on it? Would you want to employ a lawyer that suggests you need a financial advisor to go over their fees with and diminish you for asking questions? Honestly I think these guys fool a lot of people with smoke and mirrors and lawyer legalese speak. They didn't fool me. The process of real estate transaction is relatively simple process (especially in this case) and the cost breakdown should have been reflected as such. I could go to the law society, but for what it is worth (and this was quite a long time ago) I would rather let my review stand as a testament to how these people conduct business.

David is a top rate lawyer and also a great guy to deal with. We have used him numerous times for buying property, prorating a will, etc. And his fees are very reasonable.
Kamil Andrzejczak has assisted with my Real Estate investments and Will. I couldn’t be more pleased with his professionalism and prompt service. Robertson Shypit Soble Wood is well known and respected in the Legal community and I strongly recommend Kamil’s services.
David Wood is not the best real estate lawyer in Winnipeg for sure. We bought a house and chose him to represent us. The fridge was not working on move in date. We spoke to him and his assistant about the problem. He said that there was nothing he could do because although a fridge was part of the contract, a working fridge was not specified. What's the point of having a lawyer when this is the kind of contract he approves? Can't believe we paid him 3 grand. His assistant Karen is equally as hopeless.
What an Amazing Team..Mr Shypit's Expertise, Patience and Knowledge helped me thru a very difficult and unforseen situation..PRICELESS! Kamil and Sara..Fantastic to Deal with. I'm Extremely Grateful
great people
As someone who works in the legal industry i can say with 100% certainty that noone takes greater pride and greater care of their transactions like this firm. This firm does not treat your file like a piece of paper. Every lawyer at this firm cares deeply about their clients and each transaction is treated, reviewed and taken care of as if it was their own money on the line. Here you're treated like a family. Understanding in's and out's can sometimes pose a challenge but i assure you that if you call or email and ask for an explanation your inquiry will not be dismissed. Emails and phone calls don't go unanswered at this firm. Clients see only what's presented to them, they don't know or see how much care is taken from the moment their offer is received to the moment their file is sent to be closed. I am proud to know them and to have worked with them.
If you are a first time home buyer - this is the firm you should use for your purchase. Real estate is their expertise and what they are known for. They do the most house deals in the city and it shows. They know their stuff and have seen it all. Very organized. Prompt and clear communication. They make the whole process smooth and simple, the way it should be.
Great fast service. David Wood is very friendly, knowledgeable and has great humour. Would highly recommend
David L. Wood is not a good lawyer. Promises made, and not delivered. Went to court, but still made to pay the bill, because I don't know how to speak "lawyerese".....
We have used David Wood a few times in the past, he's always been very helpful and informative.
Very professional and helpful
Lawyer used to handle real estate transaction. Went smooth and was great to deal with.
I have used David Wood to purchase two of my own houses. Along with being in the mortgage business I recommend all my clients to Robertson Shypit Sobel Wood to legally represent them with their home purchase as I know they are amazing at what they do. Have never had a problem and have only heard nothing but great things. Highly recommend!
I found them very unprofessional unprepared, and procrastinators. I sold my house, giving them months notice. Asking if they needed any information. A few days before the final sale, while on vacation, I was told I need to come in with a lot of paper work I simply did not have on me. I could have dropped off or had this paper worked ready months ago, all I needed was an email or a simple call. The woman said this was 'such a simple sale' and didn't understand why she couldn't leave it till the last minute with zero preparation. I will say that Shypit did step up and covered for her inadequacy, scheduling a meeting but it was extremely stressful and last minute. To top it all off, I was told the bank I used, they couldn't deposit the money in. They didn't find out of course till after the sale, so off all things I had to deposit it in a relatives account. Again, this feels like something so-called professionals should know. I will say Shypit was useful, but I would never use them again. If there is this much trouble for a simple sale I would dread how bad it would be if there were any complications.
