A time in my life i found out i was facing jail time. I almost pleaded guilty not knowing what my options are due to the system working against me. I can't imagine how many people have been thrown in jail even though there's other options out there. I was going through a very tough time and was going to end my life when I found out what the crown wanted. Nowhere to go i got lucky and duty council last minute told me to call a lawyer AFTER i was told it was too late. Isaac was the third lawyer i called who actually wanted to listen to me, informed me that what the crown was asking was outrageous for my case. Mr. L. Afolabi is a phenomenal lawyer. My previous lawyer had me heading in a direction that seemed like a dead end causing me severe anxiety and possibly going to trial. I called Mr. Afolabi at 4am under a lot of stress and my head filled with questions. Heading back out of the dead end road i was heading down, Lakin quickly got to work. Which started as nothing with 20+ charges, quickly became a conditional discharge with 3 charges and with planning and some wonderful ideas by Lakin and Myself ended up as an absolute discharge and which started as 20+ charges and my anxiety and stress through the roof, became zero for all three. Edit: Not even two hours after writing my original poor review Lakin called me personally to apologies, explain the situation and offer me a full refund no questions asked. He was exceedingly polite and apologetic. It almost made my day! I visited Lakin Afolabi Law to get a document notarized for my passport application form. I was served by a Michael Bronsveld. When I took the notarized form the the passport office I found out that he had not bothered to date it!! This rendered the document invalid, meaning I had to return to Lakin Afolabi once more, and will have to make another visit to the passport office. Through nothing less than shocking unprofessionalism and oversight (from a law firm no less) this Firm has wasted a substantial amount of my time. When I requested a refund in light of this I was asked rather incredously why I thought I might be entitled to one. I was told if I wanted to seek a refund I could "sit and wait untill Lakin himself was ready". So that i could speak to him about it, they had no idea when that might be.

i had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Afolabi speak on the "Do Black Lives Still Matter?" panel discussion hosted by the Black Law Students' Association-Windsor Chapter at the University of Windsor. he spoke alongside his esteemed co-panelists Nancy Allen and Tomee Sojourner, and as a whole the event was incredibly stimulating and thought-provoking. Mr. Afolabi's charismatic speaking style both relaxed and challenged the audience through his clever quips and unique observations. i was struck by his distinctive opinions on carding, how movements can have more meaning and integrity, what it means to be black in Canada, and insights on the Canadian legal system. his credibility and expertise combined with the ease in his delivery and ability to make the audience feel like peers created a very positive environment conducive to learning and questioning without intimidation. plus, that three piece suit could not have been fresher. i personally hope to see more of Mr. Afolabi's work and public speaking, and hope others get the chance to as well. Mr. Afolabi's integrity, work ethic, and execution are a great example to young aspiring law students such as myself.

I was in a way referred to Mr. Afolabi's offices via a close friend who had retained his services in the past. Even before our initial phone call, without having had spoken to Mr. Afolabi, I was imbued with great faith in his ability to both council clients through complex legal structures and litigate in the courtroom. My prior confidence, while admittedly secondhand, came as a result of the front row seat I'd occupied throughout my friend's lengthy legal battle. Mr. Afolabi delivered justice for my friend, despite significant hurdles along the way. He single handedly snatched victory from the jaws of defeat on more than one occasion. For those reasons I reached out to the Kitchener offices of Afolabi law more than a year later, when I myself suddenly required immediate legal council. Despite my situation falling outside Mr. Afolabi's main scope of practice (criminal defense, domestic abuse, sexual assault), I was desperate and needed immediate advice, so called anyway. My call was answered on the second ring and I still remember the relief I felt knowing that suddenly I wasn't alone. As dramatic as that sounds, when caught in the middle of a stressful situation, unfolding in real time, the support of a highly qualified professional cannot be understated. Without getting into granular detail, my situation involved contract law, property rights and at one point the potential use of force to protect myself and my property from unscrupulous individuals I had hired online to do some general labour. Mr. Afolabi was able to quickly and concisely analyze the situation over the phone, inform me of my rights and then suggest immediate actions. He was able to review a contract I had signed between myself and the other party and then draft a letter threatening legal action, with a evidentiary basis, within hours of my call. He even made a number of calls to the "leader" of the other party, calls that saw them almost immediately capitulate and diffuse the situation. Mr. Afolabi's availability, calm demeanor, and strategic thinking, despite an incredibly hostile and quickly devolving situation, were the keys that unlocked a very favourable outcome for myself, my property and, objectively, for justice. I now use Afolabi Law to review all contractual agreements I enter into and whenever I am in need of legal advice. As someone who has been on the frontlines of a legal dispute, and who will likely be there again, I can't recommend Lakin highly enough. Call him and bring the hammer of justice down upon the seemingly endless conga line of scumbags out there.

My experience with Mr. Afolabi has been nothing short of life saving. He supported me through a legal system which seemed to be working against me. From a short time in cells through disclosure to preliminary hearings - Mr. Afolabi handled my complicated and serious criminal charges professionally and timely. He always explained the process and many times he represented me in court without my attendance required (he knew it would trigger my anxiety and his level of preparedness allowed him to spare me the distress.). The volume of work involved just to sort through several 1000's of pages of disclosure is admirable - but his ability to synthesize the information to form a solid presentable defence is what every wrongfully charged person needs. If you find yourself in need of representation I can think of few persons as calm, cool and collected as Mr. Afolabi. The legal system has enough pitfalls and shortcomings - don't let your lawyer be one of them. Personally I hope I never work with him again - lol - but if ever I require representation in a criminal court I will be using Mr. Afolabi or his recommendation. Peace
