Family law lawyer Ali Nowak was a sever disappointment. Had to repeatedly correct the same mistakes, very basic mistakes were made, condescending tone, and clear disagreement with what I wanted. For the high price being charged not worth it. Shading tactics when it came to billing and payment.

James, the lawyer we dealt with was nice enough and was helpful with our questions when we purchased our home. Unfortunately the same can't be said with the clerk we were dealing with (who was our primary point of contact for the purchase of our home). We repeatedly sent several vital documents over to this clerk and did not receive any acknowledgment. Then we were later caught by surprise that said documents were apparently not received and we had to send them over again. In total, I think our proof of insurance documentation to be sent over 3 times. The lack of transparency was also another sore point. We had emailed a few times asking for a rough estimate of the costs we could expect. I thought this was a fairly routine question to ask given that people buy and sell homes all the time. Yet we were repeatedly told that this was not possible until some more details were ironed out. Then on closing day we received our bill (which for the record was a bit more than a few of our friends paid). It would have been nice to have been made aware of the costs with a bit more notice. In addition, because of COVID all the documents we needed to sign for closing were emailed to us to print and sign beforehand. This is fine and understandable given the pandemic, however we received the documents with next to no notice (~2hrs). So I had scramble to print well over 100 pages of documents for our meeting with the lawyer in charge of our case. We were also dissapointed by the fact that our clerk had missed the fact that we were first time home buyers and had billed us for an extra 4k. This was despite us indicating that we were first time home buyers to the clerk we dealt with well beforehand in a document we were asked to fill out. I had to point out this fact to our lawyer who was nice enough to smooth that out for us. Lastly on closing day, we heard nothing all day, only to be told at 6pm that they had missed registering our deed in the provincial portal and our closing would have to wait for the next day. Overall a disappointing experience to say the least. Especially as first time home buyers.
