Domenic and his associates came well referred and while I was apprehensive about the online nature of most of the transaction, after all was said and done, I don't think I would do it any other way. Way to embrace technology to make the process smoother, transparent and simplified. This was my 2nd home purchase (1st home sale) and looking forward to doing it again in another 10 years. Yes, I would recommend my friends and family to Maio law for their real estate lawyer needs.

I called around for a real estate lawyer and came across Domenic. He sounded great over the phone and very knowledgeable as well. However when it came to getting everything prepared and reviewed, I felt like he did a rushed and poor job because I caught a lot of errors. The legal name on the property was complicated and I had to point out discrepancies that I’m assuming should be the lawyers job, NOT MINE. In addition, I had to triple check all the financials on the closing documents since I didn’t trust that he was thorough enough and pointed them out to him for correction. Considering it was my first home purchase, I would have preferred to have dealt with someone more professional and thorough as it was a huge investment for me. I would not recommend his services.

We closed our house purchase through Domenic Maio Law office last year in September 2019. And it wasn't until almost 6 months later that we had noticed that we didn't receive our property tax bill from the city. So I called City of Markham and found out that our ownership was not even changed! After I discovered this, I was trying really hard to reach Domenic. But the phone was always busy and we never got a reply. So I sent him an email about it. Finally, he said he will send our documents to the city again. But then it never reached the city and he didn't follow up and verify with the city again. In the end, I had to call the city and forward the documents to them myself. As a result, we received a property tax bill with a transfer fee and an addition of a late penalty fee. We were not informed about the transfer fee. I then emailed Domenic again in regards to the transfer fee from the city, in reply, he said I needed to pay by myself! And when I further asked him about the penalty through the email, he never replied me anymore... He failed to inform us about the transfer fee. Had we known it ahead of time, he could have asked us to pay the transfer fee upfront in order to process the documents if it wasn't covered by Domenic. But no, he neglected to transfer our property ownership over. More importantly, he failed to take responsibility on our file causing penalty and ignoring to pay for his mistake!

As a first time home buyer who bought a brand new townhouse straight from the builder, we could not have chosen a better lawyer for our purchase. Domenic is always quick and responsive and very knowledgeable about the entire process. Our closing was December 18 but my builder was slow and unorganized so they only had the documents prepared the day before. Despite receiving the documents less than 24 hours before closing and while I was on holiday on the other side of Canada to boot, Domenic executed the closing diligently and smoothly. I had shopped around with 3 other firms prior to finding his website and Domenic's fees were $1000 less than everyone else. Very accurate closing cost calculator on his website.
