Contacted regarding a rush will. Norm advised that we might want to consider transferring the title of my fathers home into the childrens names for ease of settling the estate after he passed away and suggested that we might want to consult an accountant regarding tax implications. It would cost more for us to do this than the will. We consulted our accountant who advised not to do transfer ownership as there would be nothing to gain in our situation. I advised Norm and sent him the info for the will. He called to confirm our decision and said that he could come to our house in 2 days, on a Friday, after preparing a draft will and emailing it back to me. I did not receive the draft will and tried to phone him. He would not take my call. Left a message twice and he did not return my calls. After the office closed on Friday and still nothing, I left a message saying that I was going to file a formal complaint with the Alberta Law Society. He then called me with numerous excuses. If he could not meet the time schedule that he provided us with, all he had to do was let us know and we could have gone elsewhere right away. Said he would do it Friday evening and send draft. Did not do it. Sent him an email stating that I did not understand why he was saying he would do things for us and then do nothing. Saturday evening the draft was sent to me. By then we had found a reputable lawyer that already completed the will for my dying father. Worst experience ever with a so called lawyer. Do yourself a favour and call another firm.

Adeel Malik did my will and POA docs. I had some non-standard instructions for my will which he incorporated and his result was better than the guidance I gave him. He also gave me sound advice regarding the POA, producing something different but better than what I initially suggested. Adeel also recommended that I take the POA to my bank for their review to ensure there would be no issues in the event it needs to be invoked. The bank was very impressed with it.
