I can only share my own personal experience. I was faced with serious criminal charges, due to fraud through my bank. I was involved with this crime and I was facing serious charges that could have landed me in jail. It was very frighting as I am a mother of three children and it had been almost 4 years since the incident had happened. Just recently I faced a trial self represented, due to layoffs and timing a lawyer wasn't a possibility. I was advised at my consultation that spending the money required to hire him was not needed so I met with their student at law Dylan Finlay. My original trial was for June 2020 but because of COVID it was postponed till Nov 2020. I was on my way to Calgary via the bus as I expected to have my license pulled again after the trial. Michael called me on the way to Calgary and informed me he had negotiated with the crown prosecutor and that the charges would be dropped, I was completely shocked at this! His service throughout this case was second to none. He always replied in very short order to any queries I had. When I was issued an irs:fail back in April I honestly had no idea what to do or how to handle it. After many consultations with different lawyers including this firm, I realized my best course of action for financial, job, well-being, and personal sake was to at least attempt to fight off my penalty despite not having much of a case to argue. I found this place online and had originally signed up with Elaine. She left the company and I was transferred free of charge to Michael. My experience with Elaine was okay, I felt like she was pretty judgmental and basically told me “well maybe I shouldn’t have done it in the first place”. Not really the advice I was asking for.. anyways she was charging less for the retainer fee due to COVID which really helped me out so that’s why I signed up with her, when originally tired to do things on my own. In the end she did get me everything I wanted but I was happy to see her go and to only deal with Michael moving forward. Since Elaine did everything before she left I didn’t need much else done from Michael directly so I was dealing with their assistances mostly. They were honestly so lovely, very responsive, communicative and supportive. I never felt the judgment moving forward and that was a great feeling. Mr. Oykhman is truely a blessing in disguise because he didn't just find the best possible resolution for my case he gave me an oppurtunity to a fresh start in life. A lawyer who personally picks up his phone at 1030 at night on a Saturday to discuss the severity of my case. He knew I was at a very vulnerable stage in life as I had no little hope of scaping my charges without facing jail time. Long story short I was involved in a toxic relationship who I thought I knew but didn't know he was a con artist who preyed on the weak. He had an impecable talent frauding others thousands and thousand of dollars. Life for me was unbearable at this point after learning that house arrest wasn't possible and my case just happened to land at one of the toughest crown prosecutors desk. Most important of all was How I was going to explain to my family and deal with regrets and shame. If you are searching google looking for a criminal defense lawyer and are second guessing anything, stop, and hire Oykhman criminal defense. I, unfortunately hired a different " seasoned/experienced " lawyer before calling Micheal Oykhman law office. This other lawyer I had hired, took a large retainer fee, said she had gone through my case " with a fine toothed combed ," and that I have no defense and should plead guilty to my impaired driving and over .08 charges. Literally, the night before I was about to go in and plead guilty, have a license suspension for a year and a insurance increase of %400, I needed a second opinion, called Mr.Oykhman, and THANK GOD I did. I ended up hiring them instead and putting my case off for them to review it instead of pleading guilty as the other lawyer had suggested I do. Although I did not have Micheal Oykhman personally ( I had Elaine Ng ) represent me through the firm, I did have several dealings over the phone with Micheal. Not only was every opinion of legal advice spot on, he was always professional, respectful,patient, available, and honestly just an all around great person. He even had the courtesy to call me the night Elaine and I had court dealt with, which he absolutely didn't have to do. I ended up hiring Elaine Ng to represent me at court. Her work, work ethic, and legal expertise was nothing short of astonishing. She responded to any questions I had, promptly answered any email/phone calls, and also met with me in person not once, but twice.
