I was in Canada on a one-year working holiday visa when I decided I wanted to stick around for a longer time. My country's bilateral agreement for permits of this nature restricted it to a one-time, one year participation only. I went to Véronique at McCrea to get some information on what I could potentially do. She researched a ton of options for me, together with Elise, before deciding on going for a Francophone permit. Even though I did not confidently speak French enough to match all requirements, Véronique's meticulous planning and care in assembling a complete application package made sure that I had a chance. Even after I had to leave the country briefly for biometrics purposes, thus voiding my legal status, Véronique was keeping track of my case and kept me in the loop about any developments. The adventure ended with me getting a mail from her, saying I was approved, before I had returned to Canada even. I left it on my old implied permit, and entered with a new valid francophone permit for a year. Immigration lawyers will always be a financial investment, but I do not regret choosing McCrea at all. I will always recommend them and I will always go back to Véronique and Elise if I have questions regarding these legal matters.

Not a generic list of documents required. > Was able to negotiate a lumpsum quote which was a must for me. As scheduling meetings during weekdays is not easy for most people. > First of all, I had applied previously my self and got rejected. I hired McCree law to help us resolve the issue and we decided that it was not worth the time and money to contest my application in court but was easiest to just reapply. I want to say that the paid consultation is a bargain as we were able to put together the document list required specific to my case and not a generic document package. This is a HUGE advantage of a lawyer vs a consultant. Ask for Kyle! Multiple instances of CIC requesting more information came in (due to my case not because we missed something). All of them were handled so well honestly, any documents we could not readily provide he was able to recommend something equivalent or better that satisfied the request. Kyle went above and beyond to walk us through the travel restrictions imposed on some countries(I was travelling from Pakistan). Even got us a travel authorization in 24 hours which was a great gesture. Worth every penny.

I have no doubt that these lawyers are experienced and know a lot but they are also looking for an easy money. My visa was expiring and I was lacking some EE points to get ITA for PR so I was looking at some temporary options how to extend my visa. I did my research and was asking very specific questions which I was expecting that lawyers with a lot of experience could tell me how usually cases like mine go and what would be the best for me to do. However, instead of giving me an advice they were vaguely replying to take IELTS test again to increase my score or go and study to get a study permit... Hello?! Any dum dum can find that information on the front page of Canada immigration page. I was expecting them to use their brains and find a legal way how I can extend my visa even though it's not very straightforward. All the communication was done over email. And we exchanged over 20 emails over few months period. I assume each reply from them cost a lot of money (I was lucky that my company was covering the cost so I don't know how much they charge) but at the end I was honestly talking with my boss and we both agreed that we spent a lot of money and time talking to these lawyers and basically didn't move anywhere further because their "help" was completely useless. I was under impression that they were expecting easy money by submitting simple and straightforward PR application. They sent me a bunch of forms to fill so they know how to answer the questions when copying answers to EE profile (hint: ANYBODY without a lawyer degree can do such simple thing)! Anyways, in the end we cut ties with these useless lawyers and I spent a lot of time learning in great detail about various immigration options and when I had enough information I figured out how to extend my visa and eventually get a PR. It wasn't easy but my hard work paid off and I've got my PR. If these lawyers would have told me about such way in the first place that would have helped me a lot in various ways. But they didn't. They were too lazy to use their brains for a bit to figure out a way out of complicated situation.
