Don't bother trying to call them, or even email them. Why? You wait for 10hours on the phone and then it hangs up, they don't respond to emails.

Spent 4hours in hold this week only to hung up on 4times. You see, once they put you on hold you have only one hour for them to lick up the phone again or the system will boot you off and you have call again only to be placed on hold once again. Today they missed my court appearance and court was rebooked for a month down the road. Super unprofessional. (Update) After 14 days of trying and a Total of 17.5 hours on hold, I was able to apply for help. A STAGGERING amount of time. I'm not sure WHAT kind of of adversity they are facing but I'm still at a loss as to why it was so hard to contact them.

Intake officers are polite and clear in explaining processes. Email communication has fair response times. Transparency and feedback review of roster counsel would benefit clients. Sliding scale access rather than super low income threshold would expand the accessibility of Justice via counsel to more Albertans. Reforming the certificate allowance is probably overdue. The amount of time required for complex cases and limitations on allotted hours can disadvantage a client.

They make it very difficult to get a lawyer.... Better to go to the court house and get a referral from duty counsel before talking to legal aid.. Without a referral, they will just tell you NO. They also won’t tell you to get a referral, but once you have it, they will take care of you immediately... Without a referral, they will insist that you don’t qualify, without any info on your circumstances. Hard to deal with, and no help...

It takes forever, my latest experience, was filled with errors, conflicts of interests, and lawyers that did nothing. Now I understand mistakes can be made, it happens, but despite letters and requests, the very flawed judicial system(family) has failed yet another child. The staff start out very annoyed, but despite that I make sure the annoyed staff are treated with dignity. I know they deal with a lot of different negative situations. But nothing i could do with the judge would convince her that it was not my issue. Legal aid was kind enough to provide a letter reflecting this. Be diligent, be persistent. Some judges just don't care due to the high caseload of bogus claims. Sad as it is. It cost me more than money. Don't be caught up in an oops. But they did try their best to correct what happened. Just had a judge that was bias and didn't care about equal rights for a child and it went one sided. Can't place blame on an error. If you can get a loan for a lawyer. The only way to prevent an error.

Legal aid has not once but twice failed to provide me with a lawyer for two court dates once because they didnt inform my wife and i that we could not be represented by the same lawyer. Then today they put edmonton on the certificate instead of calgary so i had a lawyer ready for me about 3 hours away. Then legal aid doesnt even call to fix the issue the law firm from edmonton calls me and informs me i will have to start the entire process over again. It must be nice to work for a system that brings you work maybe they will get it right this time...

I really dont understand how they can make u wait on the phone for an 1hr plus when the recorded wait time is under 30 minutes. When u leave your number no one calls back. I dont understand, are they there to help people and they dont want to why does the agency exist. Its really fraustrating that the lawyers in this city over charge nd the one program designed to help the people actually don't care. So why are they being funded to begin with if their services are unreachable. There needs to be another company created to give them competition. I cannot and I mean cannot tell you how fraustrated I have been with the Calgary justice system. It's quite sad to be honest

Legal Aid needs to change their slogan as "THEY ARE NOT THERE TO HELP" I had legal aid in Calgary, who assigned a Lawyer (Vivian Nwankwo) at Excel Legal in Calgary, who was very unprofessional, and rude. Vivian was unable to show up (sending students) or give my case the attention it deserved, due to her own personal reasons, Vivian withdrawaled my case. Because I voiced this Vivian, Legal Aid has now left me with NO lawyer, and NO legal help (In a custody kidnapping case). I have had many issues getting in contact with someone, being out of province, and many hours on hold, with no call back option (untill your on hold for 2 hours, or it's not working at all), and waiting weeks for services, even after faxing in a Dr. note confirming services would be beneficial due to health reasons.

They claim that they rarely make mistakes on people's information but ihad to call them over 14 times because they screwed up the certificate. A person named Amanda that stated she was a manager said she fixed the certificate but did not. The senior manager named Aleena never even returned my call. They assigned a lawyer that has been sanctioned by the Alberta Law society in the past for family matters. They a joke and I will find out who to report their unethical behavior too and I will post it so that others can file formal complaints as well.

Many people though that this is a free service. They charge you if your case is won by the appointed lawyer and then you owe them the amount that the lawyer charges. This amount they do not pursue you for but it does affect you from certain things like filing taxes a H and R block when wanting to use your return to pay for their services.. I know there is a few other things it affects but I can't remember.. I could be wrong but I think it was b the reason why I couldn't find a lawyer for a new charge I got.

It's truly saddening how legal aid treats people. It's also saddening how little respect lawyers have for you if you are using it... they typically don't want your business. If it's all you got, go for it, hope it goes better for you than for most!

Worst service ever..If I have the option I ll not even give it a star... If you want to waste your money, time and tears, so it is the best place to go there.. They hire a new graduated lawyers or paralegal without any experience, just to give them the opportunity to practice and get there experience by sucking blood and money from the low income person. It's appear to you that they give us the opportunity to have a lawyer with low rate, but in the reality lawyers are just wasting our time as clients and just keep charging money on us and taking there salary from legal aid by showing there " unuseful time sheets".. They assigned a lawyer to me from Mid March 2018 till the end of September 2018, she did nothing for me except of only filing a primary divorce application in the court, and keep wasting my time and charging legal aid for more than 6 months for not even a real court date; and by the end I find out she was giving me wrong information and work on by back to the opposite party to convince me accept the least I can get from my right, just because she was afraid and shaking go in confrontations in the court against an experienced old lawyer from the opposite party .. I owe legal aid $8000 now, for doing nothing in my case and when I tried to call or email them to explain the situation, they never care or respond or even investigate, they just compared the lawyer timesheet and approved whatever she asked for fees, and I have no choice except to pay this money.. I had to hire another private lawyer who takes from me almost the same rate, and she got me a judge decision (in my advantage), in less than a month... Please do not waste your money by go there for help, you will be stuck all your life to pay the debit you have to pay to them..

Let's face it, if your needing to go here you don't care about a review on Google, let's just be honest here. However if you truly want to know even though you have no choice but to go here - well ok then....when exiting the elevator its on your right side not left. When you walk through the door it's like playing roulette. Depends on who is working the window you can't hear through. The waiting area is all but non existing and should you be worried about privacy regarding your charges, use the phone and wait the 200 hours it will take you to get through because you'll be answering questions and loudly in a space roughly the same size as the cell your about to spend time in - maybe they are just trying to get you used to the idea of being in a small space without privacy haha. If your there your there don't beat yourself up. Expect discourteous help, long waits and get used to being handed off to other people and inner departments like you were a trading card. If you've never been through the legal system this is going to be your big adventure, if you have already well you already know what to expect now and obviously never learnt your lesson the first go round which leads me to believe you enjoy the suffrage and total chaos in which the poor person who's reading this review is about to experience. Good luck to you as I see the color has now drained from your face from my review, so I say again. Good luck and don't expect too much your not being served at Teatro.
