If you are looking for a lawyer that looks out for their clients best interest vs you as another file they are billing for then this is not the law firm you want. My experience was not one I would want anyone else to repeat. After having to repeatedly fight to get them to see that I was going to be billed for something I should not be, they also didn't apologize for not seeing their error when it was finally corrected. They spoke to me like I was ignorant and they should know better than me. I had to remind them to change my billing when the extra charges where not adjusted. After confirming with me what location to sign, they instead booked me at the other location which was really really out of my way ( 35 min drive ) vs the location I requested which was 5 mins from me. Overall I do not recommend this law firm to anyone. Please save yourself the headache and money.

The payout was not an issue on our file. There were a few situations where i was not impressed with the service that me and my fiancé were provided. For those reasons we chose to sell our property with a different law office. It definitely felt like the office was not prepared and did not properly review our files. On our first visit when we needed to sign all sorts of forms. One of said forms claimed that we owed an amount in the tens of thousands. When we questioned it, the lawyer stepped out and returned with a new form claiming we owed an amount in the thousands instead. We chose not to sign the form because it didn't seem to apply to our situation. We called our banking team immediately after and the amount was literally 14 cents and that clause was an error. It was very disheartening to see that our lawyer stumbled so much with the amount that we apparently "owed". Our move in date was coming up real quick and we had everything booked and planned for the big day, so we were getting quite stressed out when we heard that our mortgage couldn't move forward until there was a revision sent to the law office. Fair enough, so we reached out to our banking team and they managed to get a revision out that same day. My fiancé left a message with our lawyer and his assistant just to get some verification for some peace of mind. The lawyers assistant got back to her and kept claiming that they didn't receive anything. Turns out that they had the email all day, they weren't looking in the right one. once they found the email our lawyer chose to call one of our banking advisor to tell her that everything was good. This was particularly frustrating to us as we hired the lawyer to talk to us so it was odd hearing everything was good on the lawyer end from our banking advisor. When it comes to my file I'm fairly certain the lawyer should be dealing with me exclusively unless i give express permission. A month after our possession date we were certain that we had concluded our business with McKay law. We received an email simply stating that we need to send them a few hundred to pay the previous owners. Obviously this was a very bizarre request. I immediately requested some documentation. The law office had none to provide me. I found it very odd that a law office would request money from me, yet have no documentation to say for what. Turns out the previous owners accidently paid into the property tax due to TIPP payments. I talked to another lawyer and the city of Calgary as I felt this was strange request from the law office. I was informed and advised to not humor said request as the previous owners can simply file a refund through the city of Calgary. It just seems like McKay law is very streamlined and if anything diverges from its formula everything just falls apart. In conclusion, based on my experiences I don't trust McKay law.
