What an amazing house, the interior tour was wonderful. There are amazing stain glass windows, a real work of art. The woodworking was so beautiful. Even the stables were superb.

Great place to see for its historical significance. This home was well ahead of it's time. Disappointed that the tour covered one 1 of the 3 floors

Gentle John

This place is beautiful. I love architecture and beautiful buildings and homes in general. Everything from the woodwork to the ceilings and fireplaces are gorgeous. If you're a fan of Frank Lloyd Wrights work, or architecture in general, you'll love this place.

Dan Hodges

Astounding. Excellent 2 hour tour. The restoration is wonderful, the docent Sandy was very knowledgeable and fun. The house looks so fresh and new.

Very cool glimpse into FLW history. Good background info and informed tour guides. Tours were great, though maybe not kid-friendly since you're not supposed to touch anything.

A must place to see if you are a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright!

Mark Rogers

Great place to visit! Much of the facility has been restored over the past 10 years or so.

We were very pleased to visit The Martin House during our first visit to Buffalo-Niagara from Cali. The architecture, intention and elegance can be seen in every aspect of the home. You can't take photos inside the house, but can do so in the surrounding exterior. They have featured artwork that gets placed up in the exteriors, and my understanding was that these change intermittently. We went on a self-guided tour, and I think my only tip would be to pay for a docent if you are very interested in the history and the architecture of the space. There is a video that plays in the welcome center and a host of information you can read through, as an alternative, as well.

I have been visiting the Darwin Martin house since the 80s in college and have had the privilege of watching the restoration as a visitor. It is wonderful and right in our back yard. So cool, you really must go.

A great experience, guides are incredibly knowledgeable. A unique place with great vision and preservation. Looking forward to coming back next year to see the gardens!

Colleen Walsh

What a wonderful experience, touring the house with my children. There's so much to learn and everyone enjoyed a couple of hours doing so. We've already made plans to return for a picnic and take the 2-hour private tour.

We took the one hour tour and our docent was excellent. He was knowledgeable and entertaining. The house itself was an excellent specimen of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. The gardens are currently being restored, however, I'm sure when they are done they will be beautiful as well!

Scot Czubaj

Enjoyed our extended tour to this great frank Lloyd Wright home. Tour guide was knowledgeable and fun to be with. One of the best Wright homes we have toured. Recent renovations were spectacular

Jerry Pfeil

Beautiful home. Interesting to see the home amongst all the Victorian homes. Taking photos inside the home is prohibited.

Michael Foley

While currently still being renovated this Wright house is breathtaking. One of Wright's first projects his amazing talent can be seen in the main house, gardeners house and Wright's sisters house all on this lot.

Chris Darrigo

L O V E it! It's impressive to see a house built in the begining of the 20th century and still so modern!

Giavonna Brazil

We went on the 75 minute tour and our guide (Parker) was fantastic!

This mansion is amazing it was designed and created by the owner who's passed , but its a musuem now and it is an amazing mansion to see . Everything was design by the owner Martin!

I didn't have the chance to go inside, but the exteriors and landscaping are very nice to see. The gift shop had some nice, relevant gifts that didn't seem to be too expensive. I will be returning to go on the paid tour.

Visited the sculptures & gardens, beautiful!

Tim Conmy

Such an amazing place. The 2-3 our tour was very good and the docent, Peter, was excellent.

Randall Wokas

Great tour of another of Frank Llyod Wright’s creations. An early example of his “Prairie Home” style of architecture. Our guide Michael was superb! Easy to hear, understand and VERY knowledgeable, as well as entertaining.. We took the two hour tour.

Melanie Lacan

It was very nice. The house has been restored wonderfully and the tour guide was very knowledgeable of all the information about the house. A little bit boring as the guide talked slowly and sleepily. Great experience overall ????.

Alexis De Berry

Amazing. 3 gorgeus houses in one location perfectly landscaped

Nancy Myers-Holtz

Stunning example of early Frank Lloyd Wright with multiple homes, gardner's cottage, stable (converted to store), conservatory all in pristine restored condition. Was glad we purchased the 2hour tour as it was extensive & we were able to tour all of the buildings. Lots of street parking in the area. Excellent tour guide, with pre-tour short video in am adjacent new building. Highly recommended.

Kim Hoffman

The Martin home is beautiful. Two things were unfortunate though. First of all, no photos permitted inside like Graycliff and other places. Also, the art around the grounds just doesn't fit. It actually ruins the feel of the house.

Homes that have been turned into museums are often lackluster. This is not one of them. Our host was enthusiastic which helped.

Brian Knapp

A fascinating building. Excellent audiovisual presentation. The tour guide was pashionate about the topic, very well informed and spoke clearly, so very easy to follow.

Bonnie L

Definitely a must-see if you are in Buffalo. The buildung is a masterpiece inside and out. I only wish we got to see more rooms/structures on the 1 hour tour. If you want to get the most out of this, I would recommend a 2-hour tour.

Beautiful and unique as you'd expect from FLW. We stayed over in Buffalo and went to this house and the Graycliff. So awesome!

Chris Badurek

Very interesting place and the tour was very was delivered, with plenty of time for Q&A and pictures.

Jerielle Hanlon

Love this place! The detail is just amazing! The craftsmanship is beyond compare. Love that the furniture was also designed and made by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Khristina S

A fantastic example of Frank Lloyd Wright early prairie design. A must visit when you are in the Queen City. Parking on the street is free or park at the zoo a block away. The visitor center is modern, with great exhibits. Washroom are clean and wheel chair friendly. The restoration is almost completed. Next phase is a new coffee/refreshment facilities. Choose between 1 or 2 hours tour. Gift shop was the old carriage house.

Stephen Yang

Very interesting tour . David, our volunteer guide was so excited to tell the most interesting stories about Frank Lloyd Wright and this house, it made for the most interesting tour I've ever been on. Well worth the time, just an awesome peace of architectural history.

Colin McCarville

Ugly. Looks like Wright smooshed together two 1950's elementary schools. You ever been to a small public library? Then you've seen this already.

Jerry Smith

So beautiful, and the history is amazing. Thank you to our tour guide Jim for making this day so special

Joe Nemet

An Architectural masterpiece. If you are local or visiting WNY take a tour. It's worth it.

RKS

Beautiful architecture.Very modern for the early 1900's,bit repetitive(for my taste) but was FLW style. We bought 1h tour only include the bottom part of the house.I found was a big to expensive for what we got to see.Entrance, living room, visitor room, hall, kitchen, corridor, and stables. The guide was helpful. We also were not allowed to take pictures, but sometimes that is expected in places like this. You can buy another tour way more expensive and they allowed pictures. This tour was $22USD per person. Interested place to vis

If you like architecture it is a great place to visit.

Jeremy Hebert

The tour was great! The house is really amazing and the guide did a good job of explaining all of the architectural aspects as well as giving an entertaining background on the people. As someone with not a lot of previous knowledge in architecture I was still able to understand and enjoy. I took the two hour tour.

Maya B.

Amazing tour of an amazing home. The restoration of the home and gardens is one of the best I've ever seen and is worth the visit.

Emily H.

Came for a special concert event with Cami Clune. Self-guided tours of the house, wide selection at the gift shop, and Anderson's food truck for tasty treats. Perfect evening, well organized by the staff. What an architectural gem in the middle of Buffalo!

B. Korst

Beautiful House to Visit...if time allows take the 2 hour tour, you see so much more.

Emre Senta

Impressive building with an even more impressive story. Took the two hour tour and was amazed the entire time. A real treasure in the city of Buffalo. The work that the restoration team is doing is incredible.

We had a great tour! Our tour guide Dave was fantastic! Very informative - we definitely recommend touring the Martin House!

Tatiana Tugbaeva

Always wanted to see this beautiful location but never thought I’d have a reason to be in the area. Our son was in school at West Virginia U so while visiting him took a short scenic drive to Ohiopyle and Falling Water. Absolutely worth it! The grounds are gorgeous and great historical home. Took some of the hiking trails to the overlook too. Rough but fantastic views. Highly recommend!

Kenneth Thomas

A must see for architecture, design, and Frank Lloyd Wright fans. The tour guides were knowledgeable and went in-depth into the history of the home. You are able to really see the masters work up close and experience the craftsmanship that went into building this iconic home. We were only able to do the 1-hour lower level tour and would definitely come back to see the upper floors. It’s a must see in Buffalo!

mary shepherd

Took a trip to the Frank Lloyd Wright Martin House last summer, and signed up for the extended 2 hour tour. Recommend taking this, you get an in depth tour of the complex, more time to explore and take some photos. The house is filled with detail and the guide was very thorough. A great example of the prairie style, and only a short drive from Toronto CA.

P Lytle

What a fantastic story behind the history of the builder, owners and the house. Great tour guide... friendly, knowledgeable, thorough! We did the 2hr tour. Attention to detail is amazing, I was more impressed than I expected experience. The gift shop is really nice with lots to offer. The only downside of the visit, the Cafe was closed, even though the hours posted AND I confirmed with the employees. Not sure what the deal was... And they don't allow ANY kind if photography inside, even with no flash on a cell phone. Still, we head a really good time, worth a visit if you're in the area!

Not impressed , nothing but rows of bricks and wood . No color nothing Even the furniture is ugly .Have no idea why you can’t take pictures but there’s nothing to take anyway . It smells musty ,I left with a terrible allergy reaction after . A waste of money and time . I did the one hour and that was too much .

John Lund

Maybe not as well known to the casual visitor as some of Wright's more famous works, but this home is a brilliant visual treat. Amazing restoration. Friendly and knowledgeable staff

Michael Barr

Next to Fallingwater, probably one of FLW's most amazing home designs. The 50 million dollar renovation is complete. A must see!

When visiting family in Buffalo, my mom and I decided to take a tour of this piece of history; we weren't disappointed. The history of this house is intriguing and very surprising. The amount of care that has obviously gone into crafting the most authentic experience of this house is astonishing. If you're ever in town, you should at least walk around the grounds and look at the compound, but I highly recommend that you take the two hour tour. There is an option for a two or one hour tour, with a price difference (on their website). If you can only afford the one hour tour, then you should do it, but the two hour tour is a much more thorough tour of the houses and their history. All the money made from ticket sales goes directly back into finding their restoration of the compound. Speaking of restoration, they are restoring the gardens back to their original design as designed by Fredrick Law Olmsted. The renovation was said to be finished in about a year and a half (expect complete project to be finished in spring 2020). Again, it's worth every penny if you're into architecture, history, or art. My mom and I went at noon, then headed downtown and checked out a vinyl store and a used book store. Make a day of it!

This was our first stop on the All Wright tour. Beautiful house inside and out. Extremely linear interior that made the home very quiet and comfortable. The low light effect of the architecture gives you a sense of warmth. As you move from room to room your eyes move around to find the interesting changes. There is a covered patio on the side of the house where you can imagine seeing the family enjoying summer breeze after dinner. You stroll through the breezeway to the garden hose. A place you would like to sit and enjoy the warmth and sounds.

Emily Fawcett-White

Fantastic tour. I'm only disappointed that I couldn't take pictures. Great house with tons of history. I recommend anyone in the area to check it out.

Sheila Sun

What a great experience! Our tour guide was awesome and brought our experience to life.

Lorraine Pierce

Beautifully restored to its original glory! Tour guide was knowledgeable and passionate about his tour. Will return!

Derrol Hutcheson

Wright is a passion of mine, but this house is not his bes. Actually it was not loved by the landlady, since to say that this is Martin's house is euphemistic. It is Wright's house! And Wright as well as the liberty style can be seen and felt everywhere, with no space for personalization and making the house YOUR house. Waterfall house is far more beatiful, but I recommend visiting Martin House to understand the architect. The guide was excellent! Unfortunately I do not remember his name, to thank him properly, but we loved his way of explaining and of making everything so interesting

Daniel Beach

Very cool site to visit and they've done an amazing job restoring the home as true to original photos and plans as I believe is even possible. The docents have lots of good information to share and overall it's definitely worth the stop. This is my first Frank Lloyd Wright house so I have nothing to compare it to but it's got to be near the top.

Joe Dukes

A beautiful architectural gem. Wright was a master of his craft and his prairie style is on full display in this wonderfully restored home in Buffalo’s historic Parkside neighborhood. Both the building and the grounds are spectacular.

Christine Luke

So beautiful. Always worth seeing his work. Nice neighborhood to walk around before and after as well

Jennie Hurlbut

Very educational. The house and grounds are beautiful. 1 or 2 hour tours are available.

Catherine

What a great tour. The restoration has truly been a work of art and appreciation. Fantastic to see!

Katrina U

The group taking care of the house has done an incredible job with the visitor center, the rebuilding of the secondary buildings and the preservation of the original building. This was my second visit and first time seeing the completed kitchen restoration. The guides are very knowledgeable and the one hour tour accommodated older kids (7-9) extremely well.

Colleen Moser

Beautiful house and grounds, but only way inside is via guided tours that start at 1 hour long. So don't go unless you have plenty of time. Employees ranged from friendly and affable to snooty and condescending. You also need to find street parking as there appeared to be no nearby lot/garage.

Benita Lynch

Absolutely beautiful and a must visit for any Frank Lloyd Wright fan, or anyone who is interested in art and architecture. We took the extended tour, which takes you to all parts of the house as well as the gardner's cottage and the Barton house. Our docent was exceptional...he was funny, engaging, and knew such an incredible amount of information. Nearby free on-street parking was easy to find.

Always see something new here. Volunteer docent's passion for architecture is evident, and makes it an enjoyable tour.

Helena Boulding

It’s was a nice little tour, it lasted about a hour and a half, we toured the front of the house and then the first floor and a few rooms upstairs and then the conservatory. I really wanted to tour the whole house for the price I paid. But nonetheless this is Frank Lloyd Wrights design so I’m not surprised. The grounds were well kept and our guide knew her stuff. I enjoy touring estate homes and this one did not disappoint.

Very cool grounds pleasantly lit at night. Some very interesting 8 foot painted sculpted vases displayed on the premises at present (Sm2030). Interior and grounds look warm inviting, manicured and brilliantly designed. We only did a walk by on the perimeter sidewalk and did not have interior access . From my wife having gone inside before she tells me it's a definite five-star I would recommend a visit anytime of day

This was the house that Frank Lloyd Wright considered his ultimate achievement. It is stunning. Please like my review, I may hold up a mirror....but don't judge me on the reflection.

Anthony Feuerstein

Had a wonderful tour of the Martin house. Docent gave great information about the architecture and the furniture that Mr. Wright designed as well.

Kristin Smith

What an amazing place! A complex of buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for Darwin Martin and his family, each demonstrating a particular version of Wright's early genius. A gardener's cottage, a beloved family member's home and the wonderful Martin house, all letting us into Wright's fascinating mind, but also allowing us to witness life 115 years ago. My daughter and I have been promising each other to go to this place for a couple of years, and today we made it happen. The docent, Richard B., is a great raconteur and obviously knows his material well; he also shows a great affection for the house and grounds. Anyone who is a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright, or early 20th century architecture, or just wants to explore this beautiful home, needs to come and experience it! A wonderful gem in the Queen city's crown!!

Love what they have done with the grounds and everything from top to bottom. Went here for a high school field trip and now as an adult fully appreciate it all even more. Highly recommended if you live in Buffalo or even as a visitor. Niagara Falls is a must but if you are smart you'd see this as well.

This tour was incredible. I did the 1 hour tour and wished I had splurged for the 2 hour one! Our docent was sweet and very knowledgeable and the mansion is stunning. Well worth the cost of the ticket!!

Amazing tour with a great docent and a stunning property. Opt for the 2-hour tour if you can.

Peter Reime

Love Frank Lloyd Wright, and loved the tour guide. I was disappointed to see the entire top floor was under renovation. This is fine, but I didn't like paying for the 2 hour tour and not be warned before hand that a large chunk of the upstairs was not complete. I am sure once it is done, the 2 hour tour will be amazing.

I thoroughly enjoyed my two hour tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright house and other properties on the premises. (Much more informative than the one hour I did last year.) While we were touring, we could observe the landscapers completing the work on the grounds. Everything looks fabulous inside and outside. I especially enjoy all of the stories that the guides share with the visitors. Great place to spend an afternoon

With Student discount I signed up for a 2hr deep tour, and you get to know everything about the house.

A magnificent restoration of one of Frank Loyd Wrights best and most famous works. This alone is reason enough to come to Buffalo for anyone who is interested in architecture. And the city itself is making a remarkable comeback after decades of decline. Highly recommended!

Raihan Kamal

I was impressed by the FLR Martin House Complex. Needless to say, Frank Lloyd Wright was a gifted architect. The restoration society has done an excellent job with the complex. They are currently working on restoring the landscaping. Our tour guide provided an excellent insight into the complex, the Martin's, and Frank Lloyd Wright. Going back again.

Peter Mechtler

Beautiful exhibition building and grounds.

Lovely Frank Llloyd Wright House in a nice part of Buffalo

Art Aigner

We took the two hour tour. Our guide was excellent, well informed and clearly passionate about the complex. The house itself was every bit as beautiful as it was impressive. I left a proud Buffalonian.

Doris North Ohler

This place is incredible! If you are a fan of art or architecture, this is a must see. I loved my tour guide and all sales (including tours and in the gift shop) go to restoring the beautiful windows. This is probably one of the best FLW houses you will ever see. I can't wait to see it completely restored with all of it's stained glass windows. Even at the stage I saw it, with the fireplace and front windows, it is a treasure.

Mark K

What a hidden jewel! It is a magnificent museum and the tour was amazing. I learned so much about Buffalo history and Frank Lloyd. 100% recommend. The museum store is also great.

Who would think that such a gem is tucked away in this quiet residential area. In these times of such turmoil the tranquil atmosphere and beautifully landscaped grounds were both therapeutic and encouraging.

Buffalo is home to many Wright designed structures but the Martin House is probably the most well known. It is a great example of his prairie style homes from the early 20th century. The story behind the relationship between the architect and the patron is as interesting as the house itself. A visit to Buffalo should include a visit to the Martin House - The story of the Martin House and how it came to be is also an integral part of Buffalo's story during that time period and beyond.

David Udin

Volunteer lead tour was fascinating..thrilled to see this restored...need to keep more historic properties saved...

scott slieter

Loved the experience. This amazingly designed house and super friendly staff make the Darwin Martin house a can't miss attraction in Buffalo.

Ron Woodall

Cool place to check out if you are in town for the weekend. They offer self guided tours (during covid) with personnel along the tour to help answer any questions you might have. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and there is outdoor seating available if you want to relax in the gardens.

Jared R

Had the hour tour, of that hour; half of it is spent outside of the house. First you watch a video. Second you spend time outside of the house as tour guide talks about the house. For what you pay for the tour I would prefer being in the house not outside the house.

sonja hudson

Beautiful architecture... my company, Along The Lines Paint Co. Painted the beautiful home across the street. There were always sightseers out front and we had the pleasure of watching them use a big 100 ft crane to move and box up a statue to remove from the yard

Great place to spend some time. Tours are very educational and interesting. Good photo opportunities as well.

Alexa Evans

The house is a masterpiece but tour was totally undesirable. The tour guider talked as he was reporting a football match: "look at theeee windoooows..." . The tour took amost 90 minutes full of boring and simple information giving the tour guide that could definitely be reduced to 30 minutes. I wished I had the time to visit the place on my own with out the boring tour guide. We were also banned from taking pictures inside that didn't make sense. Even in the buildings where there's the concern of flash impact on the sufaces visitors are allowed to take pictures without flash. This building is also non-religious and no one is lisiding there. So the no photo policy wasn't reasonable.

Gregory Redick

Paul and Diane give a mediocre 90 minute tour for $19? This is not what I want to do on vacation. Not only were the staff rude but they didn't give us the chance to view some of the house on the overcrowded tour. Slow tour. Not very much information. But they are volunteers. Not impressed.

Rita “Reetaville” S

Tour guide did an awesome job. Lots of renovation and interesting architectural details from that time period.

Jeanette R

Fascinating glimpse into architect, houses and family that built them. Recommend 2 hour tour to see full compound.

Ning Hao

I truly enjoyed this tour. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

I'll be brief - if you haven't been, GO! If you have, go again! We took the 2 hour tour (not our first time) and we learned more once again. Now that the restoration is complete, it is worth seeing again. A Buffalo treasure! Support the Martin House!

Rob Yeoman

Really beautiful and interesting piece of history. This is a must see for anyone interested in history, architecture and/or gardening (landscaping will be restored soon)

Dan Nelson

Full disclosure: I live around the corner and have watched the restoration and its previous state for 37 years. It's a beautiful building, and the restoration is spectacular. The volunteer docents very effectively explain Wright's architecture and his relationship with the Martins. Nearly all questions answered well. I haven't seen the recently restored fireplace--I'll rectify that soon. The adjacent Greatbach Pavilion is tasteful and respectful of the Wright building and contains a useful introduction. Anyone interested in architecture or in learning the kind of thought and art and personal relations that goes into an architectural project won't be disappointed.

Marcia deGraaf Buis

If you like Wright, you will find the guided tour fascinating. But, even if you are not a Wright fan, architecture, landscape and history buffs will find lots to enjoy.

A fantastic outing for young and old alike. The house is in immaculate condition. The docents are very knowledgeable, and friendly. Everyone wore masks on the tour and refrained from touching or sitting on the original furniture. It’s the perfect way to spend an afternoon learning more about beautiful historic buffalo.

Blue Basil Earth

This is a real gem for an Frank Lloyd Wright fan or historian. There are six buildings to tour and so very much history crammed in here. My tour guide, Peter, was awesome. He is obviously passionate about the subject matter and that makes a huge difference to any tour. He had a breadth of knowledge about the buildings and their use that was really impressive.

Blaine Horrocks

Took the two hour tour here. The two hour tour lets you visit all of the buildings and much more of the site. The one hour tour lets you experience the lower floor of the main house only. I highly recommend this special visit to experience a wonderful piece of American architecture and history. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and volunteers and a nice gift shop round out the visit. Dave was our guide and he was knowledgeable and delightful. This is a MUST SEE for fans of Frank Lloyd Wright and architecture!

Jeffery Wilson

They allow guests to see the 2nd floor, whereas only the main floor could be seen years back.

Monifa Tyson

I'm a huge architecture fan and this house was not a disappointment. It's beautiful and the tour explaining all of its simple yet intricate details was perfect. The guide was clearly well versed and passionate about the house and it made for a great time!

Jonathan Stone

Great place to take a walk and look at the flowers. And architecture.

Adina Tapp

Beautiful restoration of a historical site. Great place to learn about the history of the area, the Martin family and genius of F.L. Wright.

Russel Roberto

This was my sister’s choice in Buffalo NY, and I didn’t plan to be impressed, as the first FLW house was just okay. WOW! No photography allowed and words are inadequate. Wright’s passion was to create spaces in harmony with nature, and in the Martin House, he used patterns of wisteria in a variety of ways, the most impressive being the bronzed shimmer tiles surrounding a very large fireplace with an opening from foyer across to library/living room. Textured ceilings and walls look a bit like tall grasses used in the gardens. The gardens are well documented in letters from builder to owner, and Wright didn’t budge from his plans, to the point of many built-ins so owners don’t rearrange or bring in their own choices. Landscapers were in the midst of planting the 1.5 acre grounds using Wright’s floricycle plan which offers seasonal flowers, grasses, trees, and shrubs using a good number of native plants that draw local insects the attract the many birds seen (even with all the action with tourists and grounds crew!). Take the 2 hour tour. Better yet, opt for the occasional tour where photos are allowed.

An absolute must see when in Buffalo...not to be missed. Even though the landscaping was undergoing a major renovation, it didn't deter from an amazing tour of this Wright masterpiece. Pure genius; so far ahead of his time. A great tour allowing for access throughout the main floor...nothing is roped off...just no touching allowed!

Michael Piacenza

The tour is a bit expensive but it was all very interesting and the house and grounds looks great.

GM Casolini

The history of the renovation efforts to save this gorgeous Frank Lloyd Wright home. The story of the renovation almost rivals the original construction efforts. Wonderful docents at this location. A pleasurable start to our trip.

Tedd Smith

Absolutely a must for those who love architecture, history etc... Too bad the whole place was torn up at one time and the conservation group spent millions to fix up the place. This is a reminder that life of this world is short and transient.

Steven Konieczek

We missed the last tour for the inside of the house but we’re able to walk the grounds for free. The gardens were breathtaking, just wished we could have gotten a tour as well

Guy Dagan

Great tour! The guide was very knowledgable and clearly loves volunteering as a tour guide. We purchased the one hour tour and by the end we wish we had purchased the two hour tour! With the one hour tour you only see the first floor and the carriage house. It would have been nice to see the basement, the upstairs and the other building whose name escapes me. If were ever back in Buffalo we'll definitely go back and take the 2 hour tour!

Matt Armstrong

We did the 1 hour tour, now I wish we had done the 2 hour tour! The fireplace is stunning! The entire house is incredible really. Our guides were great (sorry guys, can't remember your names). If you are even remotely interested in architecture, I'd highly recommend checking this place out!

I am so impressed with the Darwin Martin's house staff. They have been incredibly helpful in arranging a French language tour for my in-laws visit to Buffalo. Sue,my contact at the Darwin Martin house, arranged a translator for us and kept in close communication as we got the details worked out. What an amazing experience. She is a brilliant ambassador to this awesome architectural gem. We are very excited to take the tour (in French!).

Janice Vincent

We took the 2 hour tour and were treated to a truly wonderful experience. If you a Frank Lloyd Wright fan it is a must see!

It was My motivation to stay in Buffalo. You can feel the spirit if you have a knowledge about Frank Lloyd Wright. You must pay to get a guided tour. Wish there was a student option...

The Martin House was BEAUTIFUL!!! If you love different in architecture you will love this home!! Take a tour with a docent... we took the 1.25 hour tour and saw the house, conservatory and the carriage house and I was really impressed with it all. I would love to live in this house but I would never leave it!!! From the stained glass windows to the 8 miles of woodwork, this house is just amazing!! Don't miss it when in Buffalo!!!

Albert Gutwein

Beautiful - one of the best of all the FLW houses we’ve toured !!! Impressive use of the land with a recent reconstruction of the original landscaping.

Jorge Hercules

If you love visiting FLW houses this is well worth the time to see. In fact, it is a three for one because there are 3 houses to see. If you are this close go to Graycliff too ... Built for Martin's wife as a summer home. Magnificent and right on the water.

I love that visitors can wander through the magnificent grounds and appreciate the landscape freely.

This is a very noble place to visit, and Frank Lloyd Wright's work still exists in NY State. If you are interested in Frank Lloyd Wright's work and architecture, you will especially like this place.

Erik Yates

This was our first visit to a Frank Lloyd Wright design, and it was excellent. The presentation of the tour guide made every detail very interesting, despite the fact that some parts of the house were being restored at the time. The area is easy to access, and the gift shop was nice. The design, the style and the story well presented in the tour made us want to see more of FLW's designs.

Andrew Gookin

Interesting walking tour of the inside and grounds. Well kept property and lmnk folks with lots of historical knowledge to learn from!

Sadie B

Great architecture. I was actually way more impressed than I could have imagined. Like walking into a time capsule. And not cheap like a lot of modern decorations. Solid wood throughout. Excellent place. My only misgiving is that it's being run by Liberals who are still clinging to the mask facade constantly policing everyone to wear it to their specs and no pictures of the house. That kind of killed the energy for me.

Frank E

If you haven't been back since they finished the restoration, please go check it out. It is absolutely worth another visit. If you've never been, and you enjoy history, architecture, or art in general, then this is a must see in the Buffalo area.

I'm not a huge fan of architectural design, but this complex was really amazing. And our guide was wonderful in explaining the history and the details of the families involved in the building of the homes.

So beautiful, its really a must see for Buffalonians and tourists alike. The history is an amazing story. And the place itself... with the furniture, and the windows, the way everything is planned and shown.Wow! The kitchen is enormous! There is an incredible fireplace and the story behind that is something special! This is a beautiful, and remarkable experience. I will think about the beauty of this place for years to come, it is that incredible! There's not enough words to describe it! An absolute must see!

The Jun Kaneko pottery sculptures really compliment the Japanese aesthetic of this property.

Another well presented, extremely well conserved example of FLRs architecture. This house has been extremely well renovated with attention to detail unsparingly used. It was a delight to see this house in the context of the neighbourhood environment, only enhancing its splendid form even more! Well worth a few hrs or minutes just to drive by.

Wish it didn't cost money but it looks cool from outside

I knew I was going to be in the area on vacation several months in advance so, I figured I'd order the tickets to tour Martin House. A month later the plans fell through and I wasn't going to make it. I called the office and asked that they cancel the tickets and refund me my money. They said no problem and were more than willing to do so. Then a month or two later I see a charge to my account for the tickets. I called the office again and asked why the charge showed up. They said that there was a glitch with their system and it happened to several people. They said the company that handles their charges would call me back the next day to handle the situation. I didn't hear from them again. I will be contacting the BBB and reporting them. If I end up in the area I will not be going on a tour.

Fantastic Frank Lloyd Wright house! Excellent docents. If you are a Frank Lloyd Wright afficianado, you cannot miss seeing the Martin House Complex. Stunning!

This place is incredible. I highly recommend the 2 hours tour as you get to see way more and learn more. There are multiple buildings on this complex and a museum. Be prepared to be amazed. Help preserve this place by not touching the inside or outside of the house other than the handrails.

HeyItsCade

This complex is amazing!!! If you even remotely like architecture you have to put this on your list. I took the one hour tour, but there is also a longer tour available. The house was recently restored to it's former glory. The are currently working on the landscaping, so that is currently torn up. The woodwork has been restored and there is miles of it! It's very interesting how Wright raised and lowered the ceilings in parts of the house depending on what he wanted the person to see/ feel. They also have a lot of the original furniture that Wright chose for them.

Yamin Friedman

I visited the grounds and walked the gardens of the Martin House while visiting Buffalo recently with my girlfriend. She grew up in Buffalo, and as an architect myself she was excited to show me this architectural gem. While they did not offer any in person tours when we visited, I was still struck with awe and a deep respect for the home and Frank LLoyd Wright's vision. The architectural detailing is impeccable, even where the building was restored, the grounds and gardens are meticulously maintained, and the foundation that oversees the home is clearly doing an amazing job at maintaining the Martin House's legacy. I'm looking forward to the day that I can visit and tour the interior of the home.

Lora Carletto

Beautifully restored complex of one of Frank Llyod Wright's earlier works. Very knowledgeable staff make the tour extremely enjoyable.

Fantastic FLW home and grounds. A gem! Highly recommend docent Pat! Do not miss this while in Buffalo/Niagara!!

Adam McIntyre

We've been to a few FLW homes, the Martin House must be the flagship, absolutely incredible! The tour guides were outstanding. A must do.

Joe G

It was enlightening to visit the structures designed by someone of historical significance. The grounds are well laid out, which allows one to observe, many of the architectural features at once. This allows for close inspection, as well as an excellent view from afar. It's a truly beautiful place.

Arne V

From an Architect's perspective this place is amazing! The level of detail is spectacular! I'm an ultimate Frank Lloyd Wright fan and this site is something to be seen!

Jon Beasley

Very much a work in progress - only a few parts of the 1st floor was accessible. While is was beautiful , it is very disappointing that the other areas are not restored and used for office space and other uses (when they have a separate building next door that could be used ) and the restoration that have been done are minimal ( few windows are nothing more than appliqués)

Charlene Ware

Wonderful!!

I loved visiting the Martin House! Frank Lloyd Wright is a true master of architecture and this prairie home goes to show for it. You should go and see this house so the preservation can be truly restored to what it once was, even though what you get on this tour is still well worth seeing.

What can I say that hasn't been said? We plan vacations around Wright sites so obviously this is the view through Wright colored glasses. I followed the restoration process for 25 years so when I heard it was "done" it was time to shuffle off to Buffalo. For the record it's not done, the up stairs is a work in progress that I was not aware of, guess I wasn't following close enough, but that is certainly not a reason to wait any longer and the implications of having the masterpiece in the revenue stream to fund further renovations is certainly justification for giving tours. Our docent was very knowledgeable and attentive to history and details. Being a life long student of Mr. Wright few things annoy me more than paying the price of admission only to hear an ill informed volunteer recite alternate "facts" seemingly unaware that many of us are well aware of the basics. There are after all books, and I hear the internet contains a wealth of knowledge, obviously all of which is true I've been told. All in all I surprised myself. I am primarily a student and a proponent of the later period of Mr. Wright's career, the Usonian/ mid century modern era but true to the genius that is Mr. Wright this masterpiece is worthy of your undivided attention if you happen to be anywhere near Buffalo.

What a positively wonderful tour! You start off on the Eleanor and Wilson Greatbatch Pavilion where you will learn so much! Watch a short, well put together narrative and then continue on with the tour of the house. Our tour guide truly helped make this experince an amazing one. He was full of knowledge that other Frank Lloyd Wright guides did not know. At the end of the tour make sure to check out the gift shop even if you're not going to buy anything. This house is accessible via public transportation. I would not suggested this tour for those who have physical imparments as you will be going up and down stairs.

Great place if you love architecture. Don't think of it as seeing an 'old house'. It's special for its use of space how one room blends into another, the detailed wood work and the use of Windows. Every room is bright even in the darkest of buffalo winter. The green house is just omg.

We took the 2 hour tour, last time we visited 6 or so years ago, the interior restoration was perhaps just started. Beautiful restoration! Glass tiles fireplace is gorgeous. Our docent Margie was excellent, lots of great insights!

Laura Nadine

We did the 1 hour tour. It was OK for the cost which I understand is how they are funding restoration. They are in the process of restoring the home. No pictures are allowed inside during either 1 or 2 hour tour, a special "photography" tour must be purchased instead. I was a little disappointed by that but once all is restored to splendor it will be very nice. I would have liked more video or pictures in the museum to learn more background.

Kim Kiehl

Really cool place. Probably cooler on a tour when it's not pandemic times. As it was, I didn't like the set-up with so many docents. It made feel rushed and pressured. It's hard to talk amongst your own party with other people listening in to jump into your conversation. It's a beautiful place, but I'd much rather read than talk to seniors that have a hard time staying 6 feet away.

Jennifer Schomaker

Absolutely loved the 2 hour tour. Our docent, Jerry was so informative and friendly. I would highly recommend taking the tour with her. What a beautiful home.

Very stunning complex of architecture that is enhanced tremendously by the tours. Note: 1 hour tours cover the first floor, conservatory, and carriage house. 2 hour tours cover the first floor, the second floor (only 1 room), conservatory, carriage house, and other smaller (guest) house. Amazing example of Frank Lloyd Wrights vision. The house is both imposing and very livable. It is amazing that it was futuristic in 1903 and it is still very futuristic now, albeit in a retro futuristic way. It is amazing the level of detail that exists and the absolute control Wright had on his vision. Down to the furniture and placement of the pictures. If you have not visited you should. Just to see the formal masterpiece that FL Wright designed. Then to see a more feminine influence I would visit Greycliff in the early summer.

Dan Garofalo

If you have any interest at all in architecture, this is a must visit spot. I had no idea it was actually a complex of buildings Wright designed. The renovations at $50M are impressive and you get a hint at the wealth involved in the construction.

Paul May

Wow, the innovation this home represented in 1906 must have been dramatic. It's dramatic today. This is an amazing restoration, still in progress. Worth the price of the two hour tour. One of Wright's most significant milestones!

Even though it was a self tour, people were available to provide information and answer questions. The Martin house is a wonder in architecture!

The house is amazing and a great Wright house. I'm giving it two stars because of all the chain link fences. It completely ruins any way for visitors to enjoy the house with the landscaping. Definitely stop and check out the house. But be prepared for the chain link.

Ron Manning

Such a gorgeous house! The tour guides really have a great knowledge on the history of the property, the archictect and the family who lived there. I highly recommend taking a tour, you will not be disappointed. I took my best friend here while she was visiting Buffalo because she is a fan of the architect and we had a great experience, she loved it! Keep in mind, you can only take pictures outside the house on a normal tour. They tell you when you are able to but that didn't take away from the experience at all.

Sharon Vicchio-routhier

We did the 2 hour tour Plus. The tour guide was awesome. It is amazing when you actually go inside, things you would not think of that Franklin Lloyd Wright thought of. Even to how the light shines in on the ceilings and makes decorative patterns. It's a great way to spend the afternoon and a must lunch in downtown Buffalo. Worth the money. We were the only locals the majority of guests were from out of state. A diamond in our own backyard.

I went to Frank Lloyd Wright's Martin House Museum complex in Buffalo yesterday with my sister, aunt, and uncle. It was really something to see how he designed all those buildings knowing where to place features and how the lighting would come in through windows to the building's interior, all without the use of computers! My husband is the Frank Lloyd Wright enthusiast, and he wanted to show his family a bit of his passion. On the website, it said the 1-hour tour is good for kids. And it could have been. But the tour guide, Marsha kicked my kids off the tour because my two year old was being a little noisy. It would have been fine if she wasn’t going on and on and maybe kept the tour moving. There should be no reason why you can’t see the entire house in a 1 hour tour. The house isn’t that big. But they wasted the first 15 minutes of the tour watching a video, which was completely unnecessary, and the tour guide was extremely slow , going on and on in every room with convoluted detail. We are paying 22 dollars PER PERSON to see the house. You can’t shorten down the details in order to see the second floor? That was really disappointing. The house itself is beautiful, although some of the newer restored features, according to my husband, were done with poor craftsmanship. I suggest to keep the details short on the one hour tour to allow for the group see the upstairs. The two hour tour should have the details.

It would be a shame for you to be in Buffalo and not make a point of visiting this monumentally important Wright building. It’s significance cannot be understated. Tours are 1 or 2 hours, and are well worth it to wander through the grounds and the property and imagine just how groundbreaking this house was more than 100 years ago. Fascinating history and gloriously restored ( 52 million dollar fund!) and its going to be even more spectacular now that the gardens have been redone as per original design. Well worth a walk around the neighborhood of Parkside too, and see the influence of Frederick Olmstead, the designer of Central Park, in the area.

Todd Witt

An excellent example of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture style. As an architect, it was a sensational experience. Totally worth it.

C McCoy

Absolutely amazing architecture! And so much history in this property! The tour was great, however, we only did the one hour tour so we didn't get to see the second floor- be sure to do the 2 hour tour. Only complaint is that pictures aren't allowed in the house.

Paul Mccallister

The Martin house is an experience that shouldn't be missed. Absolutely beautiful restoration of this Frank Lloyd Wright property.

Harry Bradley

Just an incredible building and story. Stunning architecture and the tour was informative and thought provoking. Well worth the trip.

Christina Benson

This is one amazing building! The staff was helpful and professional. Out tour guide kept our group engaged in the intricacies of the architectural design.

I worked on the house, restoration of wood work in the reception in 2011. I finially got a chance to tour the house with my two children. Our docent "Cindy" was very knowledgeable and facts were true. Ty

We took the two-hour tour and we loved it! Great guides.

If you are in Buffalo, NY, make the time to visit this outstanding exhibit of Frank Loyd Wright's architecture.

Andrew Rountree

Beautiful remodel/remake of a beautiful compound. If you really like FLW do the 2 hour tour because you get to see much more of the house.

joe walter

A surprise in Buffalo. Well preserved home. Excellent guide. We only did the 1 hour tour as the folks we went with had difficulty with walking and standing. I would recommend the 2 hr tour if you are physically able.

debra steckler

Really nice tours of the Martin House complex. I recommend the 2 hour tour. The architecture is amazing!

Had a nice time with the Two-Hour tour option. The only way to see everything. Saddened though that there's such copyright or whatever the reason, photos are prohibited inside. :-( Great tour though; guide was knowledgeable and no-nonsense, but a little humor built in. Lots to see and much to appreciate here and in Buffalo.

Helen Quaresma

I have never seen such beautiful architectural detail. The staff was very informative. A true Buffalo treasure.

Michelle DeLello

Very cool! Definitely worth seeing!

David was our guide. He made it a very enjoyable event. History, architecture, society, technology, etc. ... all factors at the time ...

???????? Amazing! Not only does this place look amazing but I was so lucky to have Stephen as my guide on the Martin house plus tour. A two hour tour of the entire campus covering 5 different buildings upstairs and down. If you are in Buffalo and want to feel architecture touch your soul please go here. Stand in the entrance and look back at Nike rising above on her wings of victory. It's as if not more powerful than walking into a grand basilica. Stephen was friendly warm inviting and very knowledgeable. Well worth the 45 tour. One of the most affordable Wright tours for an extended tour. This is a Buffalo must!

Call ahead for tour times if you can. We got there when they opened and managed to catch an hourly tour. It limits you to the main floor and the grounds. There is a 2 hour tour that will get you into the upstairs (only 1 room restored) and the basement which is also finished. The vacation house fills quickly and can only accommodate small tours (its 20min away and also FLW design). We spent 1.5 hours here and didnt see more than half the property. The shorter tours also dont show the adjacent house. Parking is limited mon-wed but the other days was fine on the street at opening. We drove around a bit for comparison against other houses in the neighborhood. This is by far the largest one. They recently redid the landscape and it opens up the house for pictures but replanting all the trees takes something away from it. Our tour guide was very good and helped to show and explain the details that would be missed just looking around. They explained much of the logic theory and restoration process. Photos inside are not allowed like many FLW properties but outside and green house were permitted.

With all the newly restored and reconstructed portions of the property taken into account, the Martin House is transcendant and easily fits among Wright's best work. It is mind-numbingly beautiful. I took the long tour and it was excellent - I actually wish it was longer, so I could take-in every tiny detail.

Ankita Madan

We took a tour here during our time in Buffalo. Fans of architecture and American history will enjoy this tour. Leave the little ones behind. This home is located in a residential area, and the tour is not for folks who use walkers or wheelchairs.

Hank42

Went on the tour here. I live about 5 minutes away. Was really surprised that the majority of people on the tour were from outside Buffalo. People were from all over North America. Apparently it's one of those things you take for granted when you have it in your back yard

Vince Cosentino

Loved it! The guides were very knowledgeable.

Eric Sanders

This architectural wonder was built by Darwin Martin a world renowned architect. The place is absolutely beautiful. And the tours are fabulous. The people are extremely kind. And knowledgeable about the structure

Madeline Gorman

Disappointed they weren't offering docent lead tours. Not worth going and paying without a "good tour"

Mike Zamorski

I took the two-hour tour and it was terrific. The docent Brian Smith was very informative. Visiting this historical site is well worth your time.

Maureen McCluskey Jennings

We have seen many Frank Lloyd Wright buildings and have always enjoy his works. This one did not disappoint. The history of the Martin family, the site and the preservation efforts of many, make this one well worth while touring. We traveled many many hours to take our tour, very worth while and we plan to go back again when we are in the area, this time to see the summer gardens.

Randi Fuller

Frank Lloyd Wright's Darwin Martin House is a world class, master-piece built for Wright's significant patron and friend. An absolute must see when in Buffalo. Took the tour and our guide was great, knowledgeable and friendly. Will try and visit again in the summer to get a different view of the grounds.

Fantastic tour! Remarkable history. Our docent was informative and pleasant. A remarkable piece of Buffalo and American history

Peter Lisker

Wonderfully guided by Docent David...currently undergoing $1.6 million landscape restoration, so don't expect any gardens, trees or lawns.

Ralph Anderson

I took the 2 hours tour 7/24/21 it was fabulous educational My experience was the fact that in 1905 the vision to construct an edifice with spectacular detail beyond my wildest dream. I agree a 5 star isn’t enough anyone wanting to know history should put this on their agenda

Haley Edgerton

Take the 2 hour tour - it is so worth your time! Our guide, Peter, was so knowledgeable, kind, and courteous. The renovation is pretty much done, but activity continues and he just rolls with the punches. The pre-movie didn’t give much info about the property. Come next summer when the plantings will be in and lovely. A must see!

Paul Gregory

The Darwin Martin House is one of the most beautiful human made places I've ever been. It feels like you are experiencing something natural. So much work has been put into restoring this amazing place and it's definitely worth it.

Tour was much more than I expected. Our tour guide Collette, was fantastically informative. The house is as spectacular as the story of its history.

This place is beautiful but the visit is expensive. Also, although the guides and the movie are helpful, nothing is translated into other languages, which is a important issue. I have had family members who couldn't understand anything, and had to warn others who decided not to visit this place.

Derek Pullen

Restoration complete. One of FLW's best designs. Excellent tour guide.

Noreen G

Very interesting tour. Wasn't quite finished when we were there but I recently read all restoration work is now complete. We may have to go back and see what we missed. Really cool place

Lucy Snell

Truly a gem in Buffalo. I wish the tour would have been longer, but we will likely go for the two hour, longer tour soon. Another thing to be mindful if is that they do not allow photos during the one hour tour at least not inside the house so just be ready for that.

cristina messore

We were there on the first day after reopening. Beautiful house. So well thought out in so many different ways. It's like a puzzle , you turn, or look more carefully and you find new details you didn't see before. You can picture how rich and privileged lived in the beginning of 20th century. The volunteers crew is there to help you along the way and answer your questions. Use this opportunity, these people know a lot about the house and it was a pleasure to converse with them. We were one of the first visitors on that day, and we had something close to semiprivate tour. Stop at souvenir store. It's full of cute things, a lot of which are Frank Loyd related. Must see if you're visiting Buffalo.

Bucket List "check"! I have admired FLW work through books and videos and I finally got a chance to see it in real life!! Enjoyed the tour and am inspired by design!! No regrets!

One of the many Frank Lloyd Wright homes that are being painstakingly preserved. A must see while in Buffalo, NY! Parkside park is a few blocks walking distance.

Very interesting Took the 2 hour.

I came to see this beauty when they just began renovations back in about 2000. I went on an assignment for school and fell in love with this architect. I now live in Oklahoma and am planning a trip to see his one and only skyscraper in Bartlesville Oklahoma I am so excited!!!!

I loved the 1 hour tour. Would love to go back for the two hour tour once the restoration is complete. The tour guides are so enthusiastic and amusing. We visited during a stay in Niagara Falls through, easy drive. There is only street parking in a neighborhood available, so plan time for that because they start tours promptly at the tour time. I recommend buying tickets online ahead of time, our tour was on a weekday and still full.

You have an opportunity to witness genius in the design. That was ahead of it's time! So much to see from the gardens to the interior. So much details and craftsmanship!!

Beautiful home and exhibition. Landscaping was removed to restore to original plantings. No lawn or plants. Grounds open next spring.
