My wife and I were here on our way home from our road trip across Canada.You mite say Placentia was the pinnacle of our road trip.Not in the less were we disappointed, we didn't really want to leave NL.The lady at the bed and breakfast suggested we drive over here for the view.The old ruins,the view were fantastic,we hung out here for a couple hrs just for the view.If it has a high hill or a mountain I'll go just to look,we weren't disappointed.One memorable of a place that I would like to see again. Originally built here in 1660 by the french and then over ran by the British,Over taken back and forth.The French settlement of Plaisance was renamed Placentia by the British upon taking control by treaty in 1713.

No wheelchair access to views or ruins. It's a very steep climb up and down.

A great place to visit. Lots of interesting history. Stories about the area. Activities to keep the kids busy. Plan for a few hours and wear good walking shoes.

Lovely little national park site with friendly staff. And they lent us umbrellas so we could still go see the castle ruins even though it was POURING rain!

Christopher was amazingly helpful with suggestions of where to eat after he helped us with the MP3 player and explained the trails and some of the history of the site. He even showed us on the map where they had added a trail that wasn't on the map yet. He corrected an old family error, the cod jigging hook in the photos is identical to one that our family had identified as a squid jigging hook. The descriptions on the MP3 were clear and fairly easy to use. Spectacular scenery as we came to expect everywhere in Newfoundland!

Castle Hill National Historic Site is a wonderful place to visit. There are nineteen stops on the tour outside that will lead you to different fortifications in a stunning natural environment. In the main building, you can enjoy an interesting exhibition and get some enriching history lessons. The little souvenir shop is also quite nice. Personnel is charming and helpful. The entrance fee is quite low and reasonable.

There's lots to see and do here, from the museum to the gift shop to the live theatre. It was definitely worth stopping in on a foggy drizzly day.

Pretty cool spot but the building was not open to visit. Which I don't really understand how it's not safe for kids to go into a museum/learning center but restaurants, bars, malls etc have been open for weeks.... Doesn't make any sense really

Very good but a bit small. It does not take long to walk around the property. Self guided talking tour was interesting.

This is an interesting place to visit. Christopher was very helpful and knowledgeable about the site and the area. Castle Hill has an interesting history and trails. Beautiful views too. The MP3 and earbuds were fabulous and enabled is to do a self guided tour with professional commentary. The binoculars were a nice touch! Nice gift shop too.

Best guided tour ever! We learned historical facts we had never considered. Our guide, Christopher, was knowledgeable and genuinely enthusiastic. He made history come alive. The site itself is stunning and well preserved. Fort walls, canons, etc. Worth the stop! Give yourself a few hours.
