For about 10 years, my wife and I have wanted to renovate the kitchen of our 25yr old house. We were the original buyers and everything was builder grade. Our biggest obstacle to getting started was agreeing on style, color and layout, (i.e. everything), so we finally decided what we really needed to hire a designer to guide us through the project. So for Christmas 2020, I gifted my wife the services of a professional designer.
I had spent quite some time on Houzz looking at various kitchen designs and when I found one that really spoke to me, I set about finding a local Canadian designer with a similar feel to their designs. That’s when I found Anne-Marie Brunet of Sheridan Interiors. Not only were some of her designs very similar to what we were looking for, but her glowing reviews on Google and Houzz for small to large projects gave me confidence that she would be very easy to work with and a good fit for our project. (Spoiler alert! - it turned out those glowing reviews were all spot-on!).
We started off with that single photo I had found on Houzz to express our tastes for colors, textures, materiels and overall feel. I also expressed my desire for a minimalistic linear fireplace (no mantle) and with that as our starting point, Anne-Marie went to work. She provided a quiz early on to learn about our likes and dislikes, and to determine our overall style. At times I am sure it was like trying to herd cats, but in the end she figured out that we were looking for something in the Craftsman style and began piecing together what would become our dream Kitchen.
Anne-Marie started off by taking detailed measurements and transferring the data into a CAD program from which she was able to present us with realistic 3D renderings of our proposed kitchen and family room. Our contractor (who does a ton of commercial work) was amazed at the detailed precision of her plans and stated how he had never had such precise drawings to work from.
It is quite an art to be able to visualize the overall end result from a few samples in a showroom. It is not a talent my wife or I are particularly gifted with, but we put our faith in Anne-Marie and we were simply blown away as we began to see the pieces come together in our home.
It was an absolute pleasure working with Anne-Marie. From her cheerful and energetic personality, to her attention to detail and unwavering perseverance, she created not only a beautiful space for us, but one that is much, MUCH more functional. I would absolutely recommend her, you won’t be disappointed!
