This pass and the nearby "Committees Punch Bowl" lake are an important part of early Canadian history. The book "Tales from the Canadian Rockies" by Brian Patton has several interesting stories written by those early explorers. The earliest story in the book, of the Punch Bowl, dates back to 1824.
